[Crab Trap
Thief]
How
did you like the razor wire on my trap lines? Next time you pull my traps,
Please clean you're blood off my traps, you low life thief. |
|
[Bailout]
I do not know as much about the government that I should, but hearing on the
news the Citi Corp bought a 50 million dollar jet for its executives--after
crying for a bail out! Could President Obama have stepped in and said no?
Where are the rules in place for a bail out? Our middle class is dying out,
yet people making hundreds of thousands of dollars are in the fore-front for
a way out of debt? How stupid do you have to be to lose millions of dollars
(or should I say how ingenious since if they ask they receive)?
Friends of ours cannot pay their mortgage, but to refinance costs money as
the banks want a survey and inspection of the property they have owned for
years. That in itself costs several hundred dollars. Who is there to help
them out? I hope the HNIC(?) does better than the one who unwillingly
stepped down.
They should have kept the Bush shoe for a monument, had it bronzed and
toured the USA so every bird from Alaska to the Keys could disgrace it like
he did our USA. |

A big thank you to Eden Pines Property Owners for the new sign. |
|
[Where's the County leadership trying to get the dollars for sewers from
the stimulus] Excellent question. It would save the citizens of Monroe
County from going bankrupt to finance a way overdue sewer system. Save the
dying reef. Provide jobs and economic stimulus for all the County
businesses.
So, where is the leadership that should be applying for the stimulus
money?
Count the "Rs" on our
officials' voter registration cards, all the way from Key West to
Washington. They're not going to ask. It's the politics, stupid. |

[Out of Work] Almost five million Americans are collecting
unemployment benefits this week. |
|
Didn't Sloan swear off the Coconut Telegraph before? Is this another
Streisand retirement? (Ed: Sloan thinks there are others pulling my
strings and telling me what not to print of his. The Angels have him locked
on to that.) |
|
[The
3 Bs of Boating] Buoys Break Boats. You mean to
tell me that the Captain of the Little Palm Island ferry couldn’t remember
where the three channel markers are that he drives past every day at least 8
times! |
|
[The
Rhodesian Bomb Proof Vehicle] The guy who doesn’t think these vehicles
are good against powerful roadside bombs in Iraq must have missed the slide
show showing the Bomb Proof Vehicle being torn to bits and saving the lives
of the American soldiers inside. They work. It’s only a wonder why we took
so long adapting them for use in Iraq when we already knew their
effectiveness. |
|
[Restaurant
Ratings] There should be another star when rating for restaurants
identifying the kitchen as using no packaged, processed or pre-packages
food. I have all that stuff in my pantry. When I pay money for a meal I want
only the freshest available. If I want lunch meat or frozen food I’ll look
in my frig. |
|
Jay-Z’s
recording of
Ain’t No Nigga is rap not hip hop. Like I said, most of you
are too old to know the difference. Don’t feel bad, most older folks don’t
know the difference that’s why they lump all modern music into one bag. |
|

[Cooking Tip] Did you know that if you put boiled eggs into ice
warter immediately after boiling, that the shell just rolls off? After I
remove the eggs from the ice water I shuffle the eggs in the pan I used to
cook them from side to side rapidly to crack the shells in a thousand
places. The shells will just slide off. |

This is for whoever that foreign criminal was from yesterday. Are
you so dumb as to think posting your pathetic story on an internet blog
would get your warrant vacated? Are things that backwards where you live?
If you want to get a free ride on whatever crime you committed in my
country, petition the court, not the internet. If you think the cops are to
blame for your delinquent behavior, you are even dumber than I thought. We
have enough psychos here. Go bother your own people. |

Big
Pine Grind by Dan Schwab who is the last person in the Keys with a sense
of humor. |
|
[Rush
Limbaugh] I've read the transcript and I believe he was calling soldiers
who don't agree with the war "phony soldiers". Many soldiers took it that
way too. He claimed to be referring to a single soldier because he knew
he'd gone too far by insulting our troops.
As
far as the "cyst" on his bum: his personal Dr. is the only one who saw it.
It wasn't verified by the military. Even if it was there, you'd think
someone as pro-war as Rush would have it removed to go fight. I wonder what
stopped him? http://www.abcnews.go.com/Politics/Vote2008/story?id=3683929&page=1 |

Newman Outfitters will be closed on Sunday, February 1st. Not
for the Super Bowl--it's Dan's birthday and he's worked really hard for the
past year and deserves this day off. We are going to check out Terry
Cassidy's party for Habitat, so if you happen to see Dan, wish him a
Happy 55th! We hope to see you there. |

[The
public will not be allowed to ask questions or comment on any part of
the NAS Key West/ BOCC JLUS Workshop] Not true!
“During presentation from the Navy, the
public will not be able to speak but may submit written questions to be read
into the record at the appropriate time for questions and answers, so that
everyone present or observing by TV or live video streaming can know what
the questions are as well as the answers. Once the presentation is
completed and the written questions have been addressed, and any questions
from County Commissioners and Administration have been addressed, members of
the public should be provided the opportunity for their customary 3 minutes
to state concerns and opinions on the subject. Any person who wishes to be
heard shall provide the Clerk with his or her name and residence. Such
information shall be on a card provided by the County. Once public input
begins, there will be no further speaker cards allowed to be submitted to
the Clerk for that subject. Once an individual has addressed the Board, he
or she will not be permitted to return to the podium for follow-up comments,
unless the issue involved is in a legal nature. In that situation, the
applicant may return to the podium to conclude his or her position at the
end of the public hearing.” |

[Fordson
Snow motor] More years than I care to remember ago, probably 30 or so,
I had occasion to spend a little time working at the Paris Island Marine
training facility. I saw two large vehicles about 30 or so feet long and
about 10 feet wide, and about 7 feet tall, that looked like landing craft.
On each side of the vehicles was a metal pontoon about 4’ in diameter that
ran the entire length of the craft. They were tapered at each end, with a
spiral screw fin on the outside of each pontoon that ran the length of each
pontoon. The idea was that the pontoons would spin and the screw fins would
provide propulsion on land or water. My Marine guide told me that these
machines were experimental amphibious vehicles for running in water or
swampy terrain, and had been tested as prototype landing craft. I believe
that they were developed by Chrysler. I was told that these two were used
to round up AWOL recruits who tried to escape through the swamps that
surround the facility. My guide said that these things were the only machine
that could effectively navigate the swamp and waters. Does anybody have any
info on these weird rides or what they were called? |

[Business Owners] If you own a business in the keys you need to email
every one of the commissioners for the gift they presented to you, the
reprieve granted for small signage outside your business front. If you don't
have a business front, your neighbor or customers might, thereby keeping
your community economy afloat. Email each commissioner for their kindness
and compassion regarding the sign issue last Wednesday. Understand? please

[Tourists]
Let's look on the bright side. If the economy gets bad enough, there may be
less New Jersey Snow Birds to contend with in the winter! |

Did
you ever hear of Michael Steele? Well, those rascally racist rancid
Republicans just elected him as the head man of the racist Republican
party. Turns out he’s a good pal of Rush Limbaugh and loudmouth Hannity.
He’s a Southerner, from Maryland where he had served as Lt. Governor. He’s a
Conservative, and he even was an occasional commentator on Fox news. What
can we expect from a Fox News dude who’s a pal of Limbaugh and Hannity, can
we expect hatred and vile racism? I don’t think so!
Did I forget to mention that Steele is black? Steele’s
competition for the office included three Caucasians and another Black.
Congratulations to Michael Steele, a true intellectual, an honest man, and
a patriot. Unlike John Dean, Steele never needs to scream to be persuasive. |

The commies are coming back to Cuba with cash and goodies! Do you
suppose the Cuban flag fliers in south Fl. will take their flags and chants
that "Cuba is #1" to the homeland? Maybe Russia will take the refugees so
they can recreate Cuba in Russia instead of the U.S. |
|
[Cable
News Ratings] Did anyone see the recent cable news ratings? Every one of
Fox’s big news shows got more than twice the viewers of any show on
any other cable news network. Imagine that. O’Reilly is viewed by more than
twice as many viewers than is Olberman, Mathews, or any other of the liberal
left talking heads. The same goes for Hannity, and the rest of the prime
timers. Maybe, just maybe, it’s a little too early to write off conservative
thinkers and other folks who demand that their info be untainted by
propaganda left or right. |

Rap is poetry put to a beat. |

Israel doesn’t intentionally kill civilians. Hamas does! |

[Sublime]
Well it looks like the not so subliminal, subliminal advertising has come
back in the posts eh, Ed?
Take out an ad, guys
and help Ed support this blog! |

I
have always considered Rap and hip-hop as poetry with a simple beat
rather than music. Modern music has melodies, Choruses, versus, bridges,
etc. Rap and hip-hop usually has a very simple chorus, a beat, and vocals
that 90% of the time deal with social status, materialistic crap, sex, and
poverty. I do not see it as art. Music should be art in my opinion.
Music nowadays is a simple product to push on the masses. Id like to see
"artists"
of the rap and hip-hop community walk into a room of guitars, basses, drums,
keyboards, and see what they can make. I bet 80% of them wouldn't know what
to do. After all, they only need a microphone, a producer and engineer to
run a sampler, and some decent recording software. Add some rapper kid that
has the "look", and will obey
everything the record company and producer tells him or her to do and you
have your modern Rap and hip-hop artist. They do not even make a percentage
of their sales anymore if they’re under contract. They make their money off
touring and merchandise. The only way to go is independent these days. |

Dual language sign at Albertsons' shopping cart return in Kmat Plaza.
English version: "Return carts here for your safety & convenience".
Spanish version: "Por Favor devoler el carro aqui". "Please" return

racial discrimination or unequal courtesy there would be if the sign's
wording was reversed? |

[Jet
Noise] Deer County Mayor, I am getting very confused with this Navy JLUS
workshop. I am now being told from the Navy that you requested for
this workshop and that you inserted the initial restrictions on public
input.
Why are you giving the
Navy a publicly televised forum on this issue? Is it not enough that the
Navy uses our tax dollars to lobby our local officials with Jet plane rides
and overnight stays on aircraft carriers?
Or to not invite all
the children of Monroe County that are suffering during this economic
implosion that requires both of their parents to work two jobs? Do you think
Monroe County children would have enjoyed the Navy's private circus? Or
just the chosen few families that have parents aligned with the Florida Keys
Defense Alliance, Military Affairs Committee and the Navy League.
On Dec 7, 2007, You
and the other Commissioners reprimanded the Navy for not placing noise
monitors within the affected areas surrounding NAS Key West. The Navy was
told at that time not to return until the monitors were in the locations and
actual noise levels were recorded -- not estimated sound levels
derived from 15 year old programs. (That was 14 months ago.)
Why not stand up for
us citizens and force the Navy to complete a valid Environmental Impact
Statement as required by the law? Or will you just allow them to circumvent
their lawful responsibility in providing a valid EIS and tag our homes in
lieu of following the law.
Why not allow us, the
Citizens, the opportunity to lobby the residents of Monroe County on our
broadcast mediums and give the Navy 3 minutes to speak? We pay for that
privilege. They don't.
I have sent you a
document which documents the noise levels over our neighborhood. Take a
good look at those levels and wonder what it would be like to suffer under
those conditions. As a matter of fact, you should have been here last
night. For over an hour we were entertained with F18 Super Hornets 100 feet
over our homes delivering upwards of 110 decibels.
This morning I was
speaking with my neighbors who made the comment that we were being treated
as "second class citizens". My response, "At least that would be a step up
from being an ignored citizen."
I wish you had the
emotional conviction about this situation as you do concerning Trauma Star.
Cancel this Navy dog and Pony show and follow through with your December 7,
2007 commitment. Some of us can't afford to take days off protecting our
homes and environment. I thought that was your job. |

[Insurance]
Thanks to whoever posted about how great Isaksen's Insurance is.
They really are. After two weeks of trying to get a quote from another
company, I called Isaksen's and was promptly given a quote from a very
reputable insurance carrier that was half the price of what I'd been
paying for years. I couldn't believe it! I dealt with Shari and she was
wonderful and easy to work with. |

[Military
Balls] Finally the poster whining about Obama not attending enough balls
admitted he did attend one that was hosted for military members. It was the
Commander in Chief’s Ball and I have a feeling he wasn’t the only one
attending. I bet it was mostly military members attending. If the best you
can do is insult the President of this great country for not attending
enough balls you could most likely come up with a better way to spend your
time. It’s not like he had a banner made up that read "mission accomplished"
at the beginning of a war. Your pettiness is astounding. I’m done responding
to you so go ahead and take your best shot. I have big shoulders and more
important things to understand then your worries of which balls a person
attends. That's petty in today’s world. I think every military member at
that ball he did attend enjoyed themselves and were thanked by our President
for their sacrifices and their service. |
|

[Golf] Stand proud, you noble swingers of clubs and losers of balls.
A recent study found the average golfer walks about 900 miles a year.
Another study found golfers drink, on average, 22 gallons of alcohol a
year. That means, on average, golfers get about 41 miles to the gallon. It
kind of makes you proud and almost makes you feel like a hybrid. |

[Wrong Place, Wrong Time] Torvald Alexander, 39, was able to chase
away the unlucky home invader who hit his apartment on Dec. 31 in Edinburgh,
Scotland. The two men inadvertently came face to face just as Alexander was
preparing to leave for a New Year's party, dressed in full regalia as Thor,
the hammer-wielding Norse god of thunder. Alexander said the burglar took
one look at him, turned and climbed hurriedly out a window, sliding down a
sloped roof and landing on the ground, where he took off running. |

[Blood]
Have you
seen the TV ads to "commit for life" to donate blood quarterly? It's a good
idea, I'll admit, but I'll be hanged if I sign up for another nag phone

the tests 'recommended' to find all those 'silent killers' only some
expensive and invasive test can fend off. No, thank you! |

[The
Great Pizza Giveaway] I got tired of seeing people killing their
families. I get tired of all the relentless negative media that this world
has to offer. I attempted to do what little I can do and give away some free
pizza but I may have misjudged the power of free and BigPineKey.com. I had
near a thousand orders in an hour (people started calling 3 days
ahead) and my pizza oven can probably crank out a hundred or so every 30
minutes on a good day. I am sure a lot of people feel screwed. My intentions
were good but frankly the pizza wasn't that great because you can't cook a
pizza if you are opening the oven every 20 seconds to meet demand. So I
guess that makes me a crappy business person, but I probably knew that going
in. Many thanks to Jan and Keith of Mangrove Mama's who are good business
persons and better people for trying to help me meet demand in their spare
time. |

Damn,
I hate to get pulled into defending Limbaugh, but yesterday’s
poster who slammed him by claiming that Limbaugh had disrespected our
military by calling them “phony soldiers” is either simply dead wrong or
a damned liar. I actually heard that whole episode. Limbaugh did not,
repeat did not call all soldiers who called for pulling out of
Iraq “phony soldiers”! He spoke only of a single misfit soldier wannabe.
That dude was Jesse MacBeth, a stinking bag of excrement.
MacBeth had very briefly been a soldier. He was kicked out of the
military after only 40 or so days. He claimed to have been in Iraq. He
never was. He claimed to have witnessed atrocities by our soldiers. He
never did. He claimed that he had earned the Purple heard. He hadn’t. In
short MacBeth is a publicity seeking liar who was loved and then left by
the left. Somehow phony soldier MacBeth became the darling of the media
when he told all his lies.
As to Limbaugh’s military service: Limbaugh had the best of
reasons for not serving the military. The military didn’t want him.
Limbaugh had a legit and specifically military published disqualifying
physical disability, a pilonidal cyst. They’re damned painful and they
can inhibit a sufferers ability to walk, sit, lay down, or even move.
That’s fact, I had one. Plus he apparently had a bad knee.
Limbaugh is no disrespector of the military, he has given
more and provided more support for military men and military families
than any celeb that you can name, his generosity amounts to hundreds of
thousands if not millions. Hate his beliefs if you will, God bless you
if you speak out against his beliefs. But be honest and don’t try to
push lies. If you want respect, be accurate, be informed, and be honest. |
|
[The country is going to crap] And just what have you done lately
to make a difference? Saved any lives? Sent anything to our troops
abroad? Picked up trash around your neighborhood? Have you spoken
kindly to a neighbor? Before you judge those around you, look in the
mirror. The actions of a few can change the lives of many. Set the
example.
Why do I get the feeling your hair is blue, your memories of your paltry
life bitter-black, and you're from somewhere else having moved here for
the weather? |
|
[Stimulus]
Here’s some of the stuff that they want in the $835 Billion
dollar “stimulus” package: multi millions for sexually transmitted
disease testing, hundreds of millions for planned parenthood (condoms
and abortions) multi millions for analog/digital TV conversion vouchers,
hundreds of millions in preparation for an influenza epidemic, multi
millions to pay off education loans for certain professionals, multi
millions to pay for new scholarships, multi millions for ATV trails,
multi millions to fight smoking, multi millions for The National
Endowment for the Arts and all of that is just a tiny scratch on the
surface.
Where the hell is our County leadership? Why aren’t they
trying to get some of these bucks for the sewers, at least that’s an
infrastructure project that’s shovel ready! The new Dem leadership want
to spend these bucks on pork barrel home-boy projects. It’s politics as
usual in DC. This will be the single biggest expenditure ever, more than
all the wars that we have ever fought. No one penny of this bill would
get the economy moving right now.
Carter’s recession had worse employment numbers and worse
inflation that this recession, we’ve had at least 11 recessions since
the Depression, they usually fix themselves in about 24-36 months, it’s
no surprise that the Dems reckon that only about 25% of the $835 billion
will be spent in the first two years, the balance to be spent just
before the 2012 Presidential campaign. Some of these proposals may or
may not have merit on their own, but none that I’ve seen will
immediately invigorate the economy.
Why in the hell don’t we just cancel all federal taxes for
6 months to a year, which would pour buckets of bucks into circulation
on the day it’s implemented, no graft, no administrative expenses, no
bigger government, only good could come of it. The revenue shortfall
could be allayed by the government itself using a tiny portion of the
dollars they plan to spend on their phony stimulus plot. |

Go ugly early with tequila and forget that damn rum! |
|
[Wall
Street Bailout] My take on the bailout is that just the bonuses paid
by American corporations in 2008 was $18,400,000,000. They reaped this
excessive benefits while laying off more and more people and closing
plants. Yes, that’s well over 18 billion! To anger me more is the fact
that some of those same corporations are receiving my tax money in the
form of bailouts. I think the initial bailout was intended to benefit
the fat cats and let the rest of us be damned. Remember that many of
these big companies suffered great losses. Ours is the only financial
system in the world that rewards failure and bad performance so well. |

[Military balls by the bunch] It’s fully true that Obama did in
fact attend a military ball on the event of his inauguration. He
attended the Commander In Chief’s Ball. That ball is specifically in his
honor as CIC. That ball is his ball. He also attended the MTV
Ball, The Youth Inaugural Ball, and a host of others. He chose to be
the first ever President to so snub our Medal of Honor winners. 47 of
those heroes who really have balls, were waiting to pay their
respects to their CIC, he scorned them. Yesterdays Obama apologist
apparently can’t tell the difference between tears and the scorn that
this poster has for Obama. |

[Bacon] The tiki bar in back of the old Quay in Marathon used to

[Boat Accident] It is very true that the Little Palm Island boat

[D.C.
to Washington] I'm confused. How can 2 million black people get

couldn't get out of New Orleans in 85 degrees weather with four days
notice. Am I missing something? |

[Buzzard

The other day I took a little sun bath. A damn buzzard woke me up as

Be careful out there folks. Keep at least one eye open at all times. |

Transportation officials in Texas are scrambling to prevent hackers from

Texas at Austin, was hacked into during the early hours of Jan. 19.

I lost a little weight by quitting beer, red meat and going to
the gym. Now I just do cardio exercises outdoors and have red red
wine. A beer is good in the summer when it's hot. But moderation is
best as I feel so much better at a lower weight. Key West Publix sells
higher end wines on the top shelves for much less than the liquor
stores. Try
Caymus for
a special occasion - it will knock your Crocs off. |

[The country is going to crap] Now, now, now. I am a righty; so
far to the right that Chairman Mo looks like a lefty. That being said,
we the Right, had a chance to do what we felt was best for America. We
the Right. didn't do such a great job. Done. That's all there is to it.
Now we have the Lefty's in charge. Get off their butts and let them do
what they do. I am sure that it will be no worse than we did. The
country is not going to crap It’s moving a little to the left and maybe,
just maybe it will be a good thing. God Bless America. |

The
Rhodesian Bomb Proof Vehicle promoter obviously has never been
anywhere near Iraq or any real war. Yes, these are clever vehicles but
they are designed to survive landmines, small arms fire, hand grenades,
and perhaps RPG’s.
Iraq
road-side bombs are often aerial bombs weighing 500 pounds. They are
bombs using dozens of pounds of C4 and Semtex plastic explosives. The
road-side bombs in Iraq leave craters 10-20 feet across and equally
deep, lifting multi-ton armored personnel carriers into the air. These
bombs are hundreds of times more powerful than a landmine.
If
any of the Rhodesian “Bomb Proof” vehicles were caught in a terrorist
explosion in Iraq they would be nothing but twisted heaps of steel with
all the occupants blown into small pieces.
So
now hopefully we can move on to the next fantasy of the clueless. |
|
[Cooking
Bacon] Bacon can also be baked in the oven, resulting in amazingly
flat slices. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Place a rack inside a baking
sheet. Lay out slices and bake for 10 to 15 minutes, depending on
desired doneness level. Voila! Crispy bacon with no curls. Few if any
splatters result. You can also bake an entire pound of bacon at one
time then refrigerate the left-overs for use later. Just pop them into
the microwave for about 20-30 seconds to reheat. Many high-volume
restaurants use the baking method.
I have been using pre-cooked bacon for some time. It is more expensive
but there is no grease splatter to clean up, no excessive use of paper
towels to soak up the grease, no pans to wash and 4-6 slices reheat in
the microwave in less than a minute. |

[Phony
Soldiers] Another too-often repeated misquote. He was referring to
an individual who had
claimed veteran status without having served. I used to cringe when
hearing Rush's voice and change stations as fast as I could get to the
radio. Then I was stuck in an area with very few English speaking
stations and actually listened to his rants for a while. He can be very
entertaining. |

[To:
Monroe
County Sheriff's Office] I could use a whole lot of adjectives, but you all know what you are.
You are not worth the ink I'm wasting. I came across this active warrant
on me while surfing the Internet. The date of the Warrant is 08/06/98,
the fat b**ch at the Key West Federal Building had me picked up by U.S.
Marshals before that date. On that June the 6th date in 1998
I was a guest at the Federal Detention Facility at Yazoo City,
Mississippi.
How the hell could I appear? This is a simple case of the right hand not
knowing what the left hand is doing. I have not been in Monroe County in
over ten years, but I bet that if I would get stopped there for anything
tomorrow one of the arse hole Barney Fifes would take me to Stock
Island. Didn't the statute of limitation run out by now? I want this
warrant removed from the list today. I don't even remember having to
post a bond. In any case I would like some form of response. The
county comptroller had my present address for years I can be found at:

[No Viewpoints
Allowed] I was appalled to learn while viewing yesterday's BOCC
meeting that the public will not be allowed to ask questions or comment
on any part of the NAS Key West/ BOCC JLUS Workshop presentation on Feb
4, 2009
Page 3 “The
JLUS program encourages communities and the military installation to
study the issues in an open forum, taking into consideration both
community and military viewpoints.”
How
can you have an

into consideration community viewpoints if the community is not allowed
to ask questions or comment? Or are you only excepting comments and
questions from carefully selected speakers? |

[House
of Cards] A poster yesterday asked “When is the US Government going
to ask for a bailout?” You have not been paying attention. They/We
already have. The government has borrowed billions of dollars from he
Chinese government, starting with the rebate last year. This is made
possible by all the Americans who have been only concerned about buying
stuff at the lowest price, thereby increasing the standard of living of
the Chinese while ours goes down.
Every month for years massive amounts of our money have been leaving the
U.S. through trade deficits with the Chinese, funding the Chinese
government's massive military expansion and space program, building
Chinese cities, to say nothing of the jobs and industrial capacity we
have lost. So while you shop at Walmart and elsewhere thinking you are
saving money, what you are really doing is bankrupting America and
financing the Chinese government and its people. You have built their
industrial capacity, their cities and infrastructure, and improved their
standard of living, while screwing yourselves and every other American.
In fact, the Chinese and other exploitative trade partners have been
financing the U.S. for many years now thanks to trade deficits. They
take some of that money and buy treasury bonds and similar investments,
thereby returning the money to the U.S. for a while. Well, there is so
much money bleeding from the U.S. through trade deficits and things like
the Iraq war, treasury instruments just were not doing the job. There
was no industrial expansion going on, only contractions as our jobs go
overseas. So the bankers funded U.S. economic expansion with the only
asset we have left, real estate; by using easy to get mortgages. Then
they packaged all those mortgages into securities they could sell to
foreign investors and some suckers here who were not paying attention.
It was all a house of cards, needless to say, and has collapsed. And you
all did it to yourselves.
The U.S. government is not just bailing out America; we are in reality
bailing out the entire world. We have no choice. The financial industry
sucking back the money the American public sends overseas (together with
all the billions immigrants send to their home countries) is the only
thing keeping us afloat and they have to maintain some level of world
confidence in U.S. investments.
Madoff's ponzi scheme is nothing compared to the ponzi scheme that the
U.S. government and financial industry has been running on the U.S.
citizen and the entire world. And yes, for the last ten years at least,
the U.S. economy has been nothing but a giant ponzi scheme. |

More internet
"truth". Just recycled old news spun up to be a fake racial issue.
Airbus,
yes one crashed, an A340-600 not an A360-600 as the headline says (which
conflicts with the rest of the "article"). It was reported widely in
the European press over two years ago when it happened.
There
was an Airbus engineer in the right-hand seat, where the control input
was coming from..
The author of the
words in the post is intimating at the ignorance of an Arab crew and a
cover up, while providing little proof of such. There were 2 Airbus
employee's on the aircraft! Many Arab companies like ADAT employ
foreigners, especially in technical jobs and their website has a careers
page if you are looking for employment.
The previous post
is thinly veiled Arab bashing. While I have no love for Arabs as they
have enough foibles to point fingers at, which should be of real
concern, like Sharia Law, genital mutilation of young girls, subjugation
of women, Jihad etc. We really don't need to make stuff up about them
to mock them.
Why do people
accept the first thing they see in an email as being gospel? I found
plenty of facts about this incident without checking with Snopes.com
first.

[Being Arab] I don't recall that part in the book, but you're
right, there is nothing wrong with being Arab; however, when gullible
people use the information they receive in viral emails to claim that
the president is hiding something, we have a problem. Maybe Arabs aren't
rejoicing because this isn't true. The fact is, these rumors are being
spread to feed people's fears about President Obama's background. Many
people still believe he's a secret Muslim and these lies are being
spread as evidence to support that paranoia and prove there's a
conspiracy going on. The falsities were initiated by Kenneth E. Lamb's
viral email and Rush Limbaugh's big mouth. All the claims about the
president are in blogs, no legitimate news source supports these
theories - Fox news mentioned it, but they don't even have any proof.
Most people don't care that there's no evidence to back these theories
up because they support what they wanted to hear.

[Hip
Hop] A poster told us yesterday that Rap is for gangsters and Hip
Hop is warm and cuddly. But I’m always curious so I Googled “Hip Hop
Lyrics”. At random I picked out a site called
www.ohhla.com
I went there and picked out “Jay Z” from a list identified as Hip Hop
artists. That took me to Jay z’s albums, I picked his Album called
“Reasonable doubt” for obvious reasons. That Album listed a number of
songs, one of which sounded intriguing, Ain’t No Nigga. Here’s
some of the lyrics:
“no need..for you to ever sweat the next
bitch..” “Aint no nigga like the one I got…” “nigga what you dont see is
whatcha get weapons concealed what the fuck yall feel when you nigga
play sick we can all get ill..with speed, Damn”.
Gee, isn’t that special? What talent, how
comforting that that message is echoing throughout the mean streets of
America. Did I mention that Jayz is the author and performer of “My
President is Black”, he was a featured performer at Obama’s
inauguration. It is especially comforting that our new President finds
these artists worthy of his company and approbation. After all, they
certainly are fine role models for our youth. |

[How
to Wash a Toilet] This was simply too much of a time saver not to
share it with you
1. Put both lids of the toilet up And add 1/8 cup of pet shampoo to the
water in the bowl.
2. Pick up the cat and soothe him while you carry him towards the
bathroom.
3. In one smooth movement, put the cat in the toilet and close the lid.
You may need to stand on the lid.
4. The cat will self agitate and make ample suds. Never mind the noises
that come from the toilet, the cat is actually enjoying this.
5. Flush the toilet three or four times. This provides a power rinse.
6. Have someone open the front door of your home. Be sure that there
are no people between the bathroom and the front door.
7. Stand behind the toilet as far as you can, and quickly lift the
lid.
8. The cat will rocket out of the toilet, streak through the bathroom,
And run outside where he will dry himself off.
9. Both the commode and the cat will be sparkling clean. |

Q.
What is an Economic Stimulus Payment?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q. Where will the government get this money?
A. From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money?
A. Only a smidgen.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment?
A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition
TV set, thus stimulating the economy.
Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.
If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China.
If you spend it on gasoline, it will go to the Arabs.
If you purchase a computer, it will go to India .
If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico, Honduras ,
and Guatemala (unless you buy organic).
If you buy a car, it will go to Japan .
If you purchase useless crap, it will go to Taiwan .
And none of it will help the American economy.
We need to keep that money here in America . You can keep the money in
America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend
it onprostitutes, beer (domestic only), or tattoos, since those are the
only businesses still in the US. |

Reluctantly,
I say goodbye to the Coconut Telegraph today. I will post nothing
further here, and anyone who wishes to keep up with what I write can do
so by checking in daily with the Today's FlaKey Drivel file of
goodmorningfloridakeys.com, or the Today's Cock-a-doodle-doo file of
goodmroningkeywest.com.
From what I read from time to time on the Coconut Telegraph, plenty of
its readers will be happy to read of my departure. I owe them and other
readers an explanation, even if they don't want it.
Simply stated, I have learned that the host/Ed, whom I have viewed as a
good friend, has someone he will not identify to me who does not want
him to publish anything I write about Tom Stump's disappearance. I know
this for a fact, because when Ed first declined to write what I
published about Stump's disappearance, he sent that person an email
saying if I stopped using the Coconut Telegraph, then this person owed
Ed what he wasn't going to make off me any more. Oddly, I received this
email instead of the intended recipient. What I received that day from
Ed addressed to me was an email saying some of those people
(unidentified) were still his friends, and he could not publish anything
about Tom Stump's disappearance that I wrote.
Later, after learning I had received the email he meant to send to
someone else, Ed said the reason he could not publish what I wrote about
Tom Stump's disappearance was because he had already published any and
everything other people wanted to write about it a few years before,
which I believed he had done, and he didn't feel okay publishing
anything about it again. If that was all I had heard from him, I might
well have gone along with it. Alas, there was more to it, as Ed's first
communications to me clearly proved.
This was some months ago. I waited it out, not knowing what to do, even
as I remained very disturbed. Whenever I am put to write about Tom
Stump's disappearance I get to feeling really poisoned, more so than
when I am moved to write about anything else in the Keys. This tells me
that there is something really bad lurking there that has not yet been
brought to light, and it tells me that the angels who keep after me are
not done with it, even if many people want it to be done with.
What brought all of this to a head, my leaving the Coconut Telegraph,
happened when I wrote the Keys Karate post the other day, which was an
absolute slam of the karate dojo on Big Pine Key. Ed left out the lead
into the post, which indicated that it was about that dojo, which meant
that no Coconut Telegraph reader who did not go to one of my websites
and read the entire post, Black.Belt, understand what the post was
really about. I trained with a 7th degree black belt in a Japanese form
of karate, who once was world champion. The person running the dojo on
Big Pine is a thug, and I would entrust no child of mine to his care.
(Ed: Regarding
the karate post. I didn't realize he was slamming the karate school.
That's why I didn't print that part. It wasn't clear enough to me that
that was the point of his day's efforts. I thought the point of his post
was to tell his experiences as a karate student. I don't know anything
about the karate school except that they discriminated against Sandy
Downs' young kid. They wouldn't let him pay for classes because his
mother ran against Sheriff Peryam. That's what Ms Downs said.
Bye Sloan I'll
miss your take on the universe.)

I need to vent. This gripe has been 7 years coming. What is with
Murrays Market? Those employees are down right nasty people. I have
been shopping there for over seven years and have been treated like crap
for the whole 7 years. Well its over, I will never shop in that over
priced place again. Everyone that works behind that deli counter is
mean, rude and nasty to the customers. I have had enough abuse. I've
shopped in Murrays at least a few times a week for all these years and
spent $50-$100 each time I go in only to be spoken to rudely. The place
is extremely over priced and a lot of the stuff is outdated. I can see
that the employees don't care about the loss of business but the owners
should look into this. Your employees are chasing customers away.
I would like to point out that there are only 3 employees that this
letter does not apply to: the man behind the register that likes garlic
(he is very nice), the heavy girl with the tattoos (very nice) and the
older women with the accent that has been there a long time. The guy
behind the deli: don't get me started with that asshole. He is the
worst! ~dondon1023@aol.com |

The brand spanking new Airbus 380-600, the largest passenger
airplane ever built, sat in its hangar in Toulouse, France without a
single hour of airtime. Enter the Arab flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft
Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as
engine run-ups, prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi.
The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area. Then they took all
four engines to takeoff power with a virtually empty aircraft. Not
having read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty
A340-600 really is. The takeoff warning horn was blaring away in the
cockpit because they had all 4 engines at full power. The aircraft
computers thought they were trying to takeoff but it had not been
configured properly (flaps/slats, etc.) Then one of the ADAT crew
decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to
silence the alarm. This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the
air. The computers automatically released all the brakes and set the
aircraft rocketing forward.
The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots
can't land with the brakes on. Not one member of the seven-man Arab crew
knew enough to throttle back the engines from their max power setting,
so the $200 million brand-new aircraft crashed into a blast barrier,
totaling it. The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown, for there
has been a news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.
Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Muslim Arabs. Finally, the
photos are starting to leak out.
 |
|
[Being
a Muslim doesn't make you an Arab] And being either isn't a
negative. This has nothing to do with Rush. An early biography of
Obama that I read said that his father was from northern Africa and that
his grandfather was an Arab from that region. How is that a slam in any
way? Genealogy is a common interest of many people and can lead you
anywhere. |

We’re
seeing rash of blivet tossing at Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh needs no
defense from me; he’s a very big boy who can take care of himself. But I
do wonder how many of his critics have ever listened to his program.
I’ll bet that there are damned few. I listen occasionally and find his
satire to be very amusing. There’s no doubt that his satire could be
offensive if not heard in context. The Colbert Report and a raft of
other political shows often have similar satire but with a leftward
slant.
I do know that
Limbaugh is not a racist; Limbaugh manifesto declares that everyone
should prosper, and every American is equal. He has a substantial black
listener base. Limbaugh’s #1 assistant who screens all his calls and is
occasionally heard on air speaking in support of various Limbaugh
positions, is black, and no Obama fan. I suppose that makes him a
racist too. I’d suggest that if really hate Limbaugh that you take the
time to listen to him for a few days. That is if you have the stones and
smarts to want to know, and understand what he’s about before you get
your shorts in a bunch. But we all know that the idea of checking out
the ideas of the other side is strongly discouraged by the liberal
elite. After all, to them, knowledge is dangerous. That’s why this right
winger routinely checks out CNN, MSNBC, and regularly reads a raft of
Liberal blogs. I’ve got to wonder why Obama and his liberal true
believers are so frightened by a dude whose big gig is bloviating on the
radio! Obama has actually made up an enemies list and a dude on the
radio tops the list, imagine that! It’s because the radio dude is
speaking truth to power! |

We know Big Pine Restaurant is really good and never a
disappointment. So do not worry, everyone reading this knew it was not
your restaurant.
I just don't know why the owner of that sleazy place with all her
chances can not make it work. Maybe one day we can get some real people
in there who knows what their doing to make everything right for us. I
guess until then the so-called boycott will continue. It is a shame so
much history in that building. |
[Rush
Limbaugh] While we're on the topic of who's disrespecting the
military, why not bring up everyone's favorite patriot, Rush Limbaugh.
He did say that soldiers who support withdrawal from Iraq were "phony
soldiers". Too bad he couldn't serve when he was drafted after dropping
out of college. I'm sure he would have done a much better job if it
hadn't been for his horrible ailment. I wonder if that pimple on his
butt still bothers him? http://www.snopes.com/military/limbaugh.asp |

You cannot legislate the poor into freedom by legislating the
wealthy out of freedom. What one person receives without working for,
another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot
give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from
somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not
have to work because the other half is going to take care of them, and
when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because
somebody else is going to get what they work for, that my dear friend,
is about the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing
it. |

It's funny how the country is going to crap and hardly anyone on
this site seems willing to even notice, yet alone respond. But ask what
kind of rum is the least sweet and they come out in swarms and
everyone’s ready to save the world. It's no secret that the Keys are
full of drunks and other undesirables, but jeez folks! I guess now it's
clear why most don't even realize they're being screwed out of the once
good life we all had. |

[Myth
#2: It is better to recycle the tabs than the whole can]
From Alcoa's website:
No. Often
local charities encourage communities to collect can tabs and donate
them for various causes. This is a great way to engage a community, and
the tabs are fun and easy to collect. But their value is no different to
a recycler than the rest of the can. It's all the same aluminum. These
tabs have no special value other than the fact that they are scrap
aluminum. They take up less space than the cans, so are easier to
collect and store.
For the sake of the environment, when you're collecting tabs, don't
forget to recycle the rest of the can! |

A
poster was angry at the suggestion that the Hip Hop culture is
contrary to fundamental American values. Hip Hop with its glorification
of rape, dope, murder and racism is not “what’s wrong with America”.
It is nothing more than an unpleasant symptom of our current en vogue
rush to surrender personal responsibility to current Political
Correctness. It’s not PC to criticize Hip Hop because so much of it is
racially charged. In some astounding twist it has become PC to charge
that those who disagree with the politics of the current administration
are racist. That Liberal contrived notion is despicable. Those who
foment that cowardly notion are beneath contempt. The angry poster
couldn’t come up with any arguments against the Hip Hop truth, so he had
to resort to 4th grade kiddie name calling. In a supremely
elitist barb, he claims personal knowledge that Jesus hates me for my
political beliefs. Kind of makes you wonder how Jesus feels about the
Pope who has also been critical of Obama. C The poster feels so
threatened by truth and reasoned dialog that he must tuck his little
bunny tail between his little bunny legs and scamper away to a comfy
liberal thicket for cover. Bye Bye Laddie. |

[Military
Balls] Obama did attend a military ball. Was it the one you
championed? Maybe not, but don’t you think after getting sworn into
office that day and attending, what 10-11 different balls, would be
enough. He can’t be everywhere for every single event he is asked to go
to. Please try to think a little and at least have the dignity to admit
Obama did not snub the military; he did attend a military ball. I don’t
expect you to admit your half truth, but it seems to be selling a lot on
here lately. Obama is your President, deal with it and for heavens
sake quit your damn crying. Man this republican crying is getting
ridiculous. |
|
[Feeding
the Bums] The paper had an article today crying about how the money
to feed the bums has been cut back. One of the statistics they trotted
out to jerk at your heartstrings was that there are 211 children
classified as homeless in the Monroe County School District. I work for
the school district and I can tell you that it doesn't mean there are
that many kids sleeping in the mangroves.
Federal law makes the homeless classification for kids very liberal.
For example, any kid living in temporary housing is classified as
homeless. If your family just moved to the Keys and you're living with
Grandmaw and Grandpaw until you move in to your own place — you're
homeless. Dad goes on a tear and you're temporarily with Mom at the
domestic abuse shelter — you're homeless. Your folks come down for the
winter and rent a house for 6 months or less — you're homeless. You
have a run-in with your parents and are living at a relative or friend's
house for a while — you're homeless. Any kid, even if he or she is 18,
who is a full-time student and lives by themselves — is homeless. The
list could go on and on.
Isn't it also interesting that they always do their "homeless count" in
January? I reckon in Buffalo, NY they always do it in July. Keep in
mind the bums in the Keys are not people who ran into a patch of bad
luck on their way to somewhere else. They are here because they choose
to be here. The weather’s great an the scenery is beautiful. |

Cooking
bacon crispy in a microwave makes a mess and doesn’t cook it evenly.
It often leaves part burned and part half cooked and it always takes a
pile of paper towels. We like crisp bacon, but it makes a mess in a fry
pan on the stove.
To avoid all that I pre cook our bacon. I line the bottom
of the toaster oven pan with foil, strip individual slices from the slab
of bacon, place the slices side by side, then cook at 325-350º for about
16-20 minutes. You could pre cook the whole package in your big oven,
same procedure. The idea is to get the bacon nearly done. I refrigerate
the pre-cooked bacon. Later, when cooking breakfast I take individual
slices of bacon from the fridge, put them on folded paper towels and
finish cooking in the toaster oven at 325º for 7-9 minutes, after 5-6
minutes I turn over the slices onto another folded paper towel, (no
towel fires yet) and finish up the cooking time. It takes a hell of a
lot less time and effort to do it than it takes to read about it, plus
it makes perfect bacon with minimum hassle and mess. You may need to
experiment with the times and temps, every oven is different. I use a
convection toaster oven. Bon appetite. |

[Bank
Bailout] This is such a rip-off. The banks received all this money
from us little guys and they still aren’t lending any money. But they
have remodeled offices, bought more Treasury Bills, acquired other
banks, hired more lobbyists to receive more money and paid fantastic
bonuses. Their excuse for most of these excesses is that they were in
the works before they received the bailout money. All they had to do was
say no. I used the word excesses because as I understood it the money
was to be used to start lending money. The rest of the bailout money was
supposed to buy the bad loans from the banks, keeping them strong.
I’d like to see an investigation of Paulson crying wolf when he said we
had to approve his 3 page bailout plan within three days or the economy
would collapse. I’d also like the investigation to include just where
our bailout money has gone.
I see similarities in the way Bremmer was handing out boxes of money to
the Iraqis which had the same effect as the bailout—none. And no one
knows where that money went either. |

I checked Snopes,
and the only false statement in reference to Limbaugh was about gassing
Kurds. Why must you lie, and cry, "Snopes backs me up!" when it doesn't?
The other Limbaugh quote on there backs up one of my listed quotes as
"true", (the bone in the nose comment). If I've overlooked your Snopes
entry, please feel free to list the webpage here, and I will admit
defeat. As for the other Limbaughisms, check out
www.crooksandliars.com as they have the audio files to back
up my quotes.
As for the other
guy who feels hip-hoppers are what's wrong with America, you're
exhausting. You, sir, are a fruit loop. I'm sure it doesn't carry much
weight from a "liberal airhead" like me. But, once again, you're what's
wrong with America. Your argument has all the consistency of anal
leakage residue. I'm sure Jesus loves a lot of people, but when you're
name comes up, he’ll say, "What, the racist Limbaugh fan? No, he sucks.
I don't care very much for him at all".
I know! Jesus was
so rude in that scenario. I'm just trying to illustrate how you are an
awful person. The pimple on the ass-cheek of humanity. And if you've
deluded yourself enough where you think you're not a racist, perhaps you
can talk yourself into believing rabid ferrets would be comfortable in
your pants. Feel free to spew all you want tomorrow. I won't be
replying. I'm done. |

[Pull
tabs are not worth much except to keep an urban
legend alive] Whoa, burger breath, not so fast! The urban legend
pertains to free time on a dialysis machine sponsored by the National
Kidney Foundation. This is, in fact, an Urban Legend. You cannot trade
pull tabs for time on a dialysis machine.
However, The Ronald McDonald House Children's Chairties
do,
in fact, recycle pull tabs and the revenue is used to support the
various Ronald McDonald House Children's Charities. Some Ronald McDonald
House chapters raise thousands of dollars with their pop tab
collections.
Tabs are collected instead of entire cans because the tabs are pure,
high quality aluminum, unlike cans which consist of both aluminum and
other undesirable alloys. After the tabs are collected they are
delivered to a Ronald McDonald House chapter and the tabs are taken to a
recycling center where they are weighed to determine their value. One
pound of tabs is worth 57 cents. One gallon of tabs is worth $1.49.
The recycling center then sends a check to the Ronald McDonald House
chapter. It sounds like just a little, but it adds up fast.
Our local Loyal Of Moose Lodge on Wilder Road participates in this
effort and collects countless thousands of tabs yearly. If you collect
the tabs you can take them to the Moose Lodge where they will be handled
properly and delivered to the closest chapter. You can tell when a
business or organization participates in this effort by looking for the
little yellow house-shaped cardboard containers with the McDonalds logo
on them. At the Moose Lodge they are located around the bar and every
tab pulled goes into a collection container.
You can verify all of this information by going to
WWW.RMHC.COM click on "How You Can Help," then "Other Ways to Get
Involved" and finally click on "Pop Tab Collection Program." |

[Bogus

There is an e-mail floating around the internet dealing with the 2008

Scottish philosopher named Alexander Tyler, etc. Part of it is
attributed to me. It is entirely bogus as to my authorship. I've been

[Right
now she is going through the list of hundreds that she has hurt]
Sounds like a righteous hit on a worthy target, well-deserved and earned
through years of dedicated effort. Sometimes a large target must be
undermined to be taken down. But be warned, once the hide has toughened
to that of a rhino, stinging surface attacks are seldom noticed. You
usually have to wait for karma to kick in for any actual results. It's
more satisfying that way, too, when you can watch them self-destruct and
know your conscience is clean. |

[USAir,
The Perfect Crash] The first officer said, that somewhere between
2500 and 5000 feet he saw a flock of birds to the right of the airplane
and thought they'd be above the birds. The flock was in a line formation
(not in V-formation) and perfectly spaced. When the captain looked up
from the instruments, he saw the windscreen "filled with birds", big
dark brown birds. They heard several booms, both engines ran down
resulting in total loss of thrust, the power loss was symmetrical. The
captain took control of the airplane ("my aircraft" responded by the
first officer with "your aircraft"), the first officer began to execute
the dual engine failure checklist, a long 3-page checklist thought to
normally be performed at cruise altitude. The checklist never got
completed until touchdown, therefore the "ditch button" was not
activated.
Two cabin crew located in the forward cabin have been interviewed, the
third in the rear could not yet be interviewed (she's the only serious
injury and in hospital). Departure was routine, then they heard a loud
thud, a sound they had never heard before, and all engine noise ceased,
a complete silence resulted. A passenger in the first class said "I
think we hit birds", slight smoke and haze became visible in the cabin
without impacting vision, a metallic/electrical smell developed. The
captain announced just three words "Brace for impact", the flight
attendants repeated without using the Intercom, just their voice "Brace,
Brace, heads down". The impact felt like a hard landing, one impact
only, gradual deceleration, neither flight attendant realized they were
in the water. The Captain said one word "Evacuate", left and right
forward doors were opened, the right chute deployed automatically, the
left had to be inflated manually, the door step was about 2-3 feet above
water surface. There was no panic and no yelling.

Indeed,
Rush Limbaugh said all of those things and more. The other poster
forgot to mention any of the many sexist comments he's made:
~"Feminism was established so as to allow unattractive women easier
access to the mainstream of society."
~"We're not sexists, we're chauvinists -- we're male chauvinist pigs,
and we're happy to be because we think that's what men were destined to
be. We think that's what women want."
~"Some of these babes, I'm telling you, like the sexual harassment
crowd. They're out there protesting what they actually wish would happen
to them sometimes."
~"She comes to me when she wants to be fed. And after I feed her --
guess what -- she's off to wherever she wants to be in the house, until
the next time she gets hungry. She's smart enough to know she can't feed
herself. She's actually a very smart cat. She gets loved. She gets
adoration. She gets petted. She gets fed. And she doesn't have to do
anything for it, which is why I say this cat's taught me more about
women, than anything my whole life." --on his cat
~"Will Americans want to watch a woman get older before their eyes on a
daily basis?" --on Sen. Hillary Clinton
Do you see any hypocrisy here?
~"Too many whites are getting away with drug use...Too many whites are
getting away with drug sales...The answer is to go out and find the ones
who are getting away with it, convict them, and send them up the river,
too." --in 1995
~"I am addicted to prescription pain medication." --in 2003
~"I've been racking my brain. I've been trying to figure out how Bob
Dole's luggage got on my airplane...I told the doctor, I said, 'Look,
I'm worried about the next election.' ... A misunderstanding." (after he
was detained by custom officials for possessing Viagra with a

[Military
Balls] I sure wish that the Obamists would fact check before they
fire: Obama was invited to the American Legion sponsored Salute to
Heroes inaugural ball, given in honor of our Medal of Honor recipients.
47 MOH recipients did attend, Obama did not. Jolting Joe and
Mrs. Dr. Biden did attend. Obama is the first President not to attend
since its inception in 1953. Not my word, the words of Craig Roberts,

[Obama
the Socialist] Just the other day a “middle aged white” guy
expressed that he was proud to be an American, and that he was joyous
that our new President is “brilliant, inspirational and cool as ice
under pressure”. He feels the need to accuse those who do not support
Obama of being racist. I do wonder why this dude found it necessary to
tell us his race, does it matter to you? Does he think that because he's
white that his words should have more weight? The poster could only
speak of Obama’s veneer not his core. The fictional Hannibal Lector was
brilliant and icy cool.
Obama is no Lector, but the point is that we have every
reason to believe that he has the heart of a socialist and that he
intends to grow government to levels never before seen in America. I
believe this will be ruinous for our society. I believe that Obama has
capitalized on the basic weakness of far too many of us to follow the
currently stylish fad without regard to the fads underpinning. Obama and
Brittany Spears are stylish. I must add: that if my opposition to Obama
makes me an anti black racist, doesn’t your opposition to GW Bush make
you an anti white racist? |

[Obama and Republicans] Maybe I’m a glutton for punishment but I

yet they found the perfect candidate to run and lose. Keep on whining
campers I find your rants hilarious and a lot more entertaining then the
Sunday comics. I found one thing I can agree with Joe The plumber about.
I too found John McCain appalling. It’s amazing how someone who actually
had a few conversations with McCain changed his mind and voted for
Obama. |

Back in Black
post was very well stated. You could have not been more accurate.
You know, it's funny that the very folks that complain constantly about
racism, are the very ones that are consistently identifying people by
race. What happened to One Human Family? What happened to being judged
by the content of your character, not by the color of your skin?.
Our new president
is smart. He is well spoken. So what? My concern is with
his lies in his ideas, and his character. My hope is that he is smart
enough to do the right thing when it is needed. That he supports and
defends our Constitution as he has sworn to do, not to pursue
Constitutional changes by Executive Order or Judicial diktat. There is
a provision for changing or amending our Constitution. Follow it, to
the letter. Oh, and don't give me crap about President Bush changing
our Constitution. He did not. He did squeeze it a little, but, no

[Drunk Opinionated Moose]
I think I found her picture. |
[Post
is to the Inmates in the Stock Island Jail] And to their relatives
and friends. To streamline it, I will write as if I am speaking just to
the inmates.
A Key West friend emailed me yesterday, to say I’m known and liked by
inmates throughout the jail. I replied that maybe it was premature,
because the inmates didn’t know me yet, or what I would feed them if I
had my way. I save for dessert what I would feed them, after I give them
the main course.
Maybe what I first should say is jails have never been nice places to
live, and they are not supposed to be nice places to live. Meaning, I am
not going to try to make the Stock Island jail a nice place to live.
What I am trying to do is make it humane, especially with respect to the
food you are served. It is supposed to be nourishing, and is not. It is
supposed to be safe, and it often is not. That’s where I’ve been told
to focus, and that’s where I’m focusing. All of your other
complaints are way down the list of importance, as far as my work
assignment is concerned. Please keep that ever in mind.
There are two people in the Keys, I am one, Sandy Downs is the other,
who are uniquely suited to try to help you get proper food. We are
suited because we are seeking nothing for ourselves, not applause, not
money, not anything, and we are told what to do, or else!
Unfortunately, the Monroe County Commissioners and the top brass in the
Sheriff Office and Stock Island jail view Sandy and me as lunatics and
liars. They take that view because they are in bed with the sheriff and
jail brass, and because if we are not lunatics and liars, then they are.
Because of this, Sandy and I are not going to be able to persuade the
sheriff and jail brass, the county commissioners, or Governor Crist to
do something about your being fed properly. Locally, your only hope is
Dennis Ward, our new State Attorney. Maybe he will lean on the sheriff
and jail brass. Maybe he will stop taking their cases, if they don’t
start feeding people correctly, whom they have asked him to put away.

[Helicopter
Crashes] Liability alone is an excellent reason to rethink the
existence of operating a County helicopter. About a year ago, this
scribe checked out "medical helicopter crashes" on Google and was amazed
at the stories and facts around medical helicopters. The following
paragraph was a summary written for a column. Since then there have been
at least 15 additional crashes, maybe more.
Citizens should
consider the use of outside choppers as a major advantage regarding the
exemption of liability for county government and taxpayers alike, as
flight operations for medical helicopters are inherently dangerous.
Between 1998 and 2008 there have been at least 125 medical helicopter
crashes, killing about 100 people in the United States alone. As of June
30, this year, there have been eight crashes with 16 fatalities,
according to stories published in The New York Times and CBS
News.
By opting for a
private company, your commission would put our citizens and taxpayers
out of harm's way from a liability standpoint. Perhaps you collectively
have already considered this argument. Anyway, it seems appropriate to
send this and at the same time thank each and everyone of you for caring
and serving. |

[Racism] There’s a lot of talk about racism here. Obama profited
very well telling the world his mom was American and white; his dad
Kenyan and black in his best selling book. Obama felt this was very
relevant information, yet a poster here says it is not and should not
even be mentioned. Who should we believe, the unknown poster or the
president of the United States?
Cries of racism gave Obama a free pass from explaining his 20 years of
worshiping under The Black value System at Trinity United Church of
Christ. They preach a racially exclusive theology stating "We are an
African people and remain 'true to our native land, the mother continent
and the cradle of civilization." Mr. president does that mean, remain
true "above all else"?
Oprah left that same church because it was too radical and she felt it
might tarnish her image. Why would she think that? That poster should
look up all the definitions of racism then search; “The Black value
System" & "Trinity United Church of Christ". Racism is color blind and
became a very valuable political tool for team Obama. They cried racism
while at the same time practicing it--brilliant! |

[Presidential Misdeeds] History is replete with
headlines that chronicle Presidential misdeeds. Headlines include
“Journalists on Presidential Enemies List”, “Scores of Innocent
Civilians Killed in US Air Attack”, “President Scorns Medal of Honor
Winners”. Every single one of the headlines chronicle events that have
occurred in the last 6 days. Obama has announced that Rush Limbaugh is
to be shunned and he routinely excoriates Sean Hannity and Fox News.
Scores of innocent civilians were killed in Afghanistan in the very
first air assault authorized by Obama. Obama refused to attend the
inaugural ball honoring America’s Medal of Honor winners sponsored by
the American Legion, yet he chose to attend the MTV inaugural ball. Gee,
I wonder why the media doesn’t mention any of this, do you suppose they
would have if it had been George W. Bush. |

Part B is deducted from your Social Security check or direct deposit.
However, this is not mandatory either. Medicare begins at age 65. To
qualify you have to have paid into the system for 40 quarters (10
years.) |

[Stimulus Package] Here’s just a few of the schemes
under serious consideration by the Obama admin. $2.5 million to buy 100
“Veloway” bicycles for the Veloway Bicycle Program in New Orleans. They
must be really spiffy bikes at $25K per ride. They’re seriously
considering spending hundreds of millions on rubbers, condoms, and birth
control. Now that’s a lot of screwing. It’s starting to look like our
leaders want to control the population, just like China. Perhaps forced
abortions are just around the bend. Then they want to spend $200 million
to spruce up the National Mall, $21 Million of that just to re-sod it.
Not a damned one of those wildly expensive dollar dumps
will make anything new, nor will create a new long term job. Did you
know that the Bush stimulus was also deeply flawed, amongst a whole slew
of horrors, we’re just now learning that Citigroup which received
billions in bail out has used more than $50 million of that to buy a new
3 engine Dassault jet. Why in the hell don’t the Feds just suspend
federal tax collection from everybody for 6 months? That would not
cost a damned thing, it simply would cut back government revenue and
would make a hell of a lot more money available for everybody to spend
as they saw fit. There would be no graft, no administration costs, no
political sweetheart deals. That would give the economy a huge shove.

[Color
Blind] It is not racist to hate all that Obama stands for. I
hate everything that he stands for including his socialist background
and his disdain for the constitution. He says the Constitution should
be a changing document, and open to changing interpretation. I hate his
open contempt for the second amendment and the right to defend yourself
against an attacker. That is what I hate. I hate that he wants to gut
the first amendment by forcing TV and radio stations to donate equal air
time to conservative and liberal speakers. I hate that he wants to
redistribute the wealth, That means taking from someone who worked for
it and giving it to someone who did not.
I don't care what color he is. I hate his political positions and don't
care if he was white blue or green. I feel the same way about the
upper hierarchy of the democratic party including Schummer,
Pelosi, Kennedy and Boxer.
On the other hand I would have thrown my full support behind Condi Rice
and ,until he endorsed Obama, Colin Powell. I do not care what color you
are I care about Issues. |

I certainly hope
you can give your support to the citizens and taxpayers from Marathon to
north Key Largo and go out for an RFP on air ambulance service. These
folks did not support the referendum on Trauma Star. With an RFP
(official bid) answers and information you are equipped with all the
information you can garner or acquire before putting another tax on the
residents of Monroe County. The former “Gang of Three” went out for bids
on more appraisals for Hickory House, RFP’s on hotels in Marathon, to
name a few RFP requests. If no one else is out there that can meet the
standards, then you can say with a clear mind to these citizens who did
or did not support the referendum that you have done the best, fairest
job you can do for the taxpayers of Monroe County. Please support the
Agenda item number 0-2 for an RFP on air ambulance service. |

Going

stuff out of date and don’t even get me started on "running in to get

thing is we just have to deal w/ it because it's the only place we

savings in gas. It's sad when you leave the keys and get excited about
low prices at a grocery store or Wal-mart. |

[Election Results] Professor Joseph Olson of Hemline University School
of Law, St. Paul, Minnesota, points out facts of the 2008 Presidential
election: Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143
million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2
Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory
Republican won by Republicans was mostly the land owned by the
taxpaying citizens of the country. Democrat territory mostly
encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and
living off various forms of government welfare. Professor Olson
believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency
and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with
some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached
the "governmental dependency" phase. If Congress grants amnesty and
citizenship to twenty million illegal aliens and they vote, then we can
say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years. |

After
a long boycott of a local Big Pine bar/restaurant due to locally
well known problems, we thought we would give them another try last
Sunday. It seems like nothing much has changed. Their menu includes
a "Chef's Choice" Sunday dinner. We inquired about the Sunday dinner
special and were told that it was two hot dogs with chili beans and
cheese with French fries. Some Sunday Dinner Special, eh? I'm fairly
sure that when folks want to go out for a nice Sunday dinner they will
be looking for something a little more than a couple of hot dogs. We
thought we would just have a pizza but were then told that no one had
made any pizza dough for the day. They have a whole menu page of pizza
combos but no dough! It seems like this crazy place just can't get it's
act together.
We left and went to Parrotdise on Little Torch for their advertised
Sunday "Grandma's Home Style." Bingo! They offered a great baked ham
dinner with red eye gravy, mixed veggies, choice of potatoes, a nice
salad, dessert and a killer view. |

[Why
9/10 of a Cent is added to Gas Price]
The use of fractional prices goes back to at least seventy
or eighty years back. In 1914, a Texaco service station's gas price was
14.5 cent per gallon. But 9/10 cent fraction pricing came during the
'great depression' of 1930s.
The great depression decimated the demand for gasoline. More than 2.6
million cars and trucks were taken off the road, and the consumption of
gasoline was down a billion gallons per year in both 1932 and 1933. Gas
stations fought to service. Production at the time was running far above
demand and the market quickly went into a serious oversupply situation.
It was at that time that premiums such as candy, cigarettes, ashtrays,
dolls and countless other giveaway items made their appearance at
service stations. In such a competitive climate the gasoline marketers
of the day were attracted to the concept of fractional pricing.
Incidentally mechanical gasoline pumps with provision to set fractional
price made their appearance at service stations around same time.
When prices zoomed at the gas pumps during the oil crisis of the 1970s
and federal price and supply controls were imposed, individual stations
lost the autonomy to set prices. The government issued mandated formulas
for pricing, which resulted in unusual fractional amounts. Most
motorists were accustomed to the price ending in 9/10th of cent, but
reacted negatively to other arbitrary fractions. So, 9/10-cent price
convention continued. |

[Dislikes
Obama] It is my belief that the media was instrumental in getting
Obama elected. Now they are upset because he is already back stepping
on all the promises through the campaign. I thought that the most
important job once he got in office was to stimulate the economy and try
to get citizens back to work. The only thing that has been done that I
can see in the 5ive days he’s been President is the rush to undue any
progress that has been made over the years.
How come the media hasn't pursued the fact that proper documents have
not been presented for such things as his birth certificate, income,
etc? I wonder what he has to hide.
Closing Gitmo? Will we bring all those prisoners on US soil? Yeh,
that's where they belong. That way they won't have to sneak into the
US; we'll help them out and bring them here ourselves. Smart.
You would think that the comment about 57 states would have made people
stop and take a second look at what was about to take place. |

[My Colonoscopy with Dr Andy] When everything was ready, Eddie
wheeled me into the procedure room, where Andy was waiting with a nurse
and an anesthesiologist. I did not see the 17,000-foot tube, but I knew
Andy had it hidden around there somewhere. I was seriously nervous at
this point. Andy had me roll over on my left side, and the
anesthesiologist began hooking something up to the needle in my hand.
There was music playing in the room, and I realized that the song '
Dancing Queen ' by Abba. I remarked to Andy that, of all the songs that
could be playing during this particular procedure, ' Dancing Queen ' has
to be the least appropriate. 'You want me to turn it up? ' said Andy,
from somewhere behind me.
'Ha ha, ' I said. And then it was time, the moment I had been dreading
for more than a decade. If you are squeamish, prepare yourself, because
I am going to tell you, in explicit detail, exactly what it was like.
I have no idea. Really. I slept through it. One moment, Abba was
shrieking 'Dancing Queen! Feel the beat from the tambourine ... ' and
the next moment, I was back in the other room, waking up in a very
mellow mood. Andy was looking down at me and asking me how I felt. I
felt excellent. I felt even more excellent when Andy told me that it was
all over, and that my colon had passed with flying colors.
I have never been prouder of an internal organ. |

To the person defending the opinionated drunk. There is a reason
why I chose to put this out for the public to see, without a signature.
I don’t think you realize how many times she has belittled someone in
public. She didn't give the courtesy of pulling me aside to point out
my flaws, she did it with 20 other people around. She did not whisper
it quietly, she was loud and obnoxious. It is not just me that she has
done this to. I have personally seen her berate someone so bad that
they were an emotional wreck with tears streaming down their face.
There was no courtesy there. It was in front of at least 10 other
people. So a bit of public humility might be good for her. I am not
frightened or scared, and I will poop as I already have. You see by my
anonymous postings she must go through the entire list of people she has
offended over time, maybe it will help her realize how many people she
has hurt. I remain anonymous until she comes up to me and asks if I did
it. Then I will tell her. You see, right now she is going through the
list of hundreds that she has hurt. I wonder how long it will take her
to get to me? |

today "prove" Bush is the worst thing since small pox and Obama is the
greatest thing since sliced bread by using Rush as the proof. I guess
when you don't have anything good to say about your guy, the next best
thing is misdirection. |

I can't believe the American people will allow Obama to Socialize our

bought it and how dare he snub the Medal Of Honor Ball. Is that what

[Media]
I have to comment on the idea of Obama trying to control the media.
While on the surface it sounds great that the media should report
evenly. The idea of the government, especially the President,
controlling what is broadcast through the media sounds an awful lot like
communism. All I am seeing out of Obama so far are knee-jerk decisions
with very little forethought. |

[Back
in Black] They correctly accuse me of damning the hip hop culture
while they excuse it’s glorification of drugs, rape, objectification of
women, hate for police, theft, murder, and grinding hate. They whine
that the downtrodden “They” class have tough childhoods. Are tough
childhoods the exclusive property of persons of any one race? If you
happen to have a tough childhood should that give you a “Get out of
Jail” card? Does a tough childhood excuse thuggish racism? They
disrespect every person who has fled the ghetto and made a success of
themselves. Make no mistake, the hip hop culture glorifies and promotes
criminality. Every single reader of this site knows that to be fact. The
hip hop milieu is very nearly akin to the Skin Heads movement, but with
a beat.
Yes sir, you liberal airheads have a burning need to
proclaim “my president is black”. So what? Why not 'my president is a
half white Lutheran” or maybe “my president is a democrat”, or maybe
“my president is tall” The point is simple, perhaps even simple: the
race or gender of any of our Presidents should be of no consequence.
The President had absolutely no choice or influence on his assignment of
race, he cannot take credit nor blame for his accident of birth. If you
have the need to trumpet his race, then the race is of more importance
to you than the other aspects of the President’s persona. Do you have
the honesty to admit that if I wore a shirt that said “OUR PRESIDENT IS
HALF WHITE”, you would excoriate me, and properly so, as being racist.
Our obsession with race has cost America enough treasure, divisiveness
and pain. Why do you refuse to let it melt into history.
In your hackneyed banality “the pot calling the kettle …”,
the missing word is black. Black is a good word, it’s not a word to be
avoided. There is nothing wrong with the word black. Or perhaps the word
has a negative connotation to you because you’re a closet racist and
your squishy conscience forces you to avoid the use of the word black? |

Republicans think
Obama’s win was a fluke, or that his supporters somehow
mastered better election technology, or because he somehow fooled
the public with vague promises of change. As long as they think
those things the Republican Party will continue to lose support
because they are out of touch with America (sure, Texas will always
vote Republican).
Obama won because
a majority of Americans thought he was intelligent, levelheaded and
could solve the problems we worry about. If Republicans are to beat
him in the next go-round they have to host a candidate who will
convince the public that he can do better for all Americans. Not
someone like McCain who couldn’t even use the internet. |

[Gov’t monitors all communication] Last week’s Newsweek had
an article on this subject reinforcing the discredited Mr Trice’s

[SS investment

bragging rights] Does the poster really believe what he writes? The
measure was shot down because it was a bad idea. Even Bush
recently said that. If Bush ever had come up with a good idea it
would have been passed, but he never came up with a good idea. Not
one. This country will never come together as long as the Rush
Limbaugh school of fear and hate is alive. |

Bring back regulation. This is on top of all the other messes

cost a hundred a month, it’s still a life saver with my meager SS

[Karate]
In
the early 1980s, around age 40, at the encouragement of a lawyer
buddy of mine, who was a black belt in trial lawyering, I
started training in the karate dojo where he trained. The head of
this school went by the name of Shihan Oyama. He was seventh-degree
black belt in his Master’s version of Japanese karate. He was
Japanese.
Mas
Oyama was the karate master, I learned, who popularized karate in
America, when he came here and went on tour. He got into rings with
big, mean bulls with big horns, and they had it out. The bull
charged, Mas Oyama knocked off one of his horns with one blow from
one of his massive fists. The bull charged again, Mas Oyama knocked
off the other horn. Then he hit the bull in the head with his fist
and killed the bull. As I said, these were big, mean bulls, and he
dispatched them with no trouble, with his bare hands. Which is what
karate means in Japanese: with bare hands; or with open hands.
Shihan told us a story once during a class in the dojo. He said when
he was nineteen, he could beat up every student in Mas Oyama’s dojo.
But he was still a white belt, because all he wanted to do was fight
and beat people up. Only after he changed his attitude did he start
getting promoted. Although he became a seventh-degree black belt,
the highest dan (black belt rank) in that style of Japanese
karate, Shihan was much more advanced than that. He became world
champion. He and Saiko Shihan started doing tours in America. Their
performance was something to behold.
Saiko
Shihan dressed up in full samurai body armor and wielded a
razor-sharp samurai sword about three-and-one-half feet long. He
chased bare-handed, bare-footed Shihan around a ring, swinging that
razor-sharp sword at him, as Shihan dodged and weaved and repelled
his brother with various kicks and punches to the body armor that
sent his brother sprawling. The climax of the performance came when
Saiko Shihan had Shihan on his knees before him and raised the sword
to cut him in half. Shihan clasped and trapped the rapidly
descending sword between his bare palms and stopped it just above
his head. I actually saw them do this at a karate tournament in
Birmingham, Alabama, where Shihan and I lived. By then, they were in
their forties. They were old men. And yet they were still something
to behold. And they were still able to beat up anyone in their
dojos, if they wanted to. Saiko Shihan lived in New England.
One day in Shihan’s dojo, during a large class, boys and girls, men
and women, and several black belts, Shihan told us karate begins
when you receive your first dan (black belt). All the rest is
just warm up for the real thing, in other words. In another packed
class, he told us, including the black belts, that in his eyes, we
all were white belts. And compared to him, we all were. I reached
green belt, before realizing I was too old and brittle to be
training in karate. That was a little way over half-way to black
belt in that karate style. My lawyer friend was brown belt, next to
black belt, but I doubt he could have taken me, as I was much more
flexible and athletic than he was. And I was ambidextrous, could
kick and punch and block and spin as well from either side. But as a
lawyer, he was head and shoulders above me. He had top secret
clearance from the US Government, and sometimes defended Americans
accused of espionage and treason. He was that good, as a lawyer
(black belt).

[Censorship]
I did not believe my friends here in Key West about this site and
how they censor what is said. I have seen it myself about how key
words are taken out of paragraphs. I came here to get away from the
Nazi regime we are becoming here in the USA. This site preaches
about it, but they are the ones censoring us. Dear Ed, I can
understand grammar errors but taking out phases and words to protect
your friends, or whatever is not in agreement with your
thinking. This all started about the repeated bad times they had at
Crazy Fish, but you will never report anything bad towards them.
Just report the truth Ed and not edit their words to fit your
agenda.
I am sure you
will either print all of this to prove you are not part of the
regime. The real question for us will you continue to print the
truth of the masses or protect your friends. (Ed: We only protect
our advertisers, but we often remove words or phrases because they
don’t make any sense and are poorly written. If contributors would
re-read their posts before submitting them there would be far less
editing. I had to edit one line in your post because it wasn’t
clear.) |

How
can the right wing extremists listen faithfully to Rush Limbaugh?
Right wingers are against drugs, yet they listen to Limbaugh’s drug
addled mind spew his hate and half truths. (Do you think the half
truth guy who posts here is actually Rush?) I’ll bet the hypocrites
wouldn’t listen to Rush if he were smoking pot which opens the mind
as opposed to Rush’s drug of choice, OxyContin, which is similar to
synthetic heroin and closes the mind. He's actually the unofficial
poster boy for the drug. Maybe that’s it—the right wingers are
attracted to closed minds. Yeah, that’s it. |
|
[O’s failure to condemn the rampant racism of many
of his supporters] The poster revealed that he is an
insidious xenophobe. He stated that it’s O.K. for those racist
haters to use hate invective such as “Nigga” and like language in
their joy at Obama’s election because they have “earned” it.
Further he defends the hate filled language of the racist song “My
President is Black” by saying “they’re (just) singing about
having a black President, well they do, don’t they” .
That poster is telling us that it is his belief that those racist
rants are being cast by a different, inferior, class of American.
He’s telling us that he is not a part of that class. He’s telling us
that members of that class should be exempt from civil discourse and
human harmony simply because of the accident of ethnicity. That
poster shouldn’t have to be reminded that We have a new
President and that the fact that Obama’s parents were of different
races is of no consequence and should not even be of note.
Unfortunately this mind set, or perhaps character flaw, is endemic
to liberal progressives. It has caused grievous harm to millions. |

[Rush Limbaugh
Racist] You've got all wrong again, Mr. racist poster guy. I
cited Limbaugh, as "wildly popular" as you believe him to be,
because he is one of the biggest racists out there. Let's drop some
quotes, shall we?
"I mean, let’s
face it, we didn’t have slavery in this country for over 100 years
because it was a bad thing. Quite the opposite: slavery built the
South. I’m not saying we should bring it back; I’m just saying it
had its merits. For one thing, the streets were safer after dark."
"You know who
deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed
assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed."
"Have you ever
noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble
Jesse Jackson?"
"Right. So you
go into Darfur and you go into South Africa, you get rid of the
white government there. You put sanctions on them. You stand behind
Nelson Mandela — who was bankrolled by communists for a time, had
the support of certain communist leaders. You go to Ethiopia. You do
the same thing."
"Look, let me
put it to you this way: the NFL all too often looks like a game
between the Bloods and the Crips without any weapons. There, I said
it."
"The NAACP
should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and
practice robberies."
"They’re 12
percent of the population. Who the hell cares?"
"Take that
bone out of your nose and call me back (to an African American
female caller)."
Limbaugh
attacks on Obama repeatedly. Limbaugh has called Obama a “halfrican
American” has said that Obama was not just black but Arab because
Kenya is an Arab region, even though Arabs are less than one percent
of Kenya. Since mainstream America has become more accepting of
African-Americans, Limbaugh has decided to play against its new
racial fears, Arabs and Muslims. Despite the fact Obama graduated
magna cum laude from Harvard Law school, Limbaugh has called him an
“affirmative action candidate.” Limbaugh even has repeatedly played
a song on his radio show “Barack the Magic Negro” using an
antiquated Jim Crow era term for a black man who most Americans are
supporting for president. Way to go Rush.
Also, to
address the "nigga" thing. They can use the word all they want, and
you shouldn't have to worry about it. I say they earned it because
blacks still have it tough when growing up. If you try to tell me
they have it easy nowadays, then you are as ignorant as Bush. You,
old chap, are what's wrong with America. Not Obama, not the
"hip-hoppers" you paint with a broad brush, it's you.
America's waiting to filter out narrow-minded dinosaurs like you.
The nerve of what you've written in your post to call me a
racist, while you're equating hip-hoppers with criminals and
murderers? Well, there's a saying about a pot calling a kettle
something... |

Naming
the Key West airport after any local, dead or alive is a
short-sighted decision. Key West's airport is not typical of the
average small town airport; nearly all of the passengers are
tourists. Currently, the small percentage of passengers that are
locals that fly in and out of the airport see the McCoy name and
many of them are reminded of the local "bubba" system. But for the
vast majority of passengers (tourists), the name of any local on the
terminal building is meaningless.
On the other hand, the "Welcome to the Conch Republic" sign on the
outside of the old terminal building is brilliant. I never fail to
see visitors take notice of the sign, often pointing and reading it
out loud to their travel companions. The sign often starts a
conversation with locals and adds to the unique experience of
visiting to the Keys, even before visitors get off of the plane.
The airport should be one place that should be off-limits to local
egos. Let's name it after something visitors will understand. |

I sincerely hope that Obama fails! Let me add the
Brothers Castro, Hugo Chavez, V. Chernov, Evo Morales, and all
other Socialist leaders to the list of leaders that I hope fail. I
believe that if Obama succeeds, America will be a weaker and less
prosperous nation. A nation that will abandon much of its heritage
and historic ability to do good works throughout the world. I
believe that our children will have a healthcare and educational
system that is inferior to our current systems. I believe that
Obama’s actions will curtail success, ambition and excellence, all
vital underpinnings of our nation. I’m convinced that our many of
fundamental rights will be abrogated by Obama’s plans.
Obama’s view of America is fundamentally different from my
view of America. My biggest hope is that America is not damaged
beyond repair by Obama and his accomplices during their hopefully
brief tenure. Let me repeat: I hope Obama fails! Don't doubt it! |

[Bush Tried To Save Economy] It’s no surprise that
Bush’s warnings about Fannie/Freddie and their impact on the economy
were not heeded or publicized, because the economy was doing
exceedingly well at the time, the boom was on. Remember it was just
a couple of years ago, under Bush, that the stock and real estate
markets blossomed to record highs. The Democrats took control of
Congress and it all went in the tank. The major media are wildly pro
left and refused to heed anything Bush said. There is plenty of
proof that Bush, his administration, and some other Republicans
made repeated warnings beginning in ‘02. I won’t put you to sleep
with it, if you’re really interested in the truth take a look at the
link below.
During the first years of the Bush admin the Republicans did have
the majority in Congress, but that control was razor thin. The
Republicans were not united, and a whale of a lot of them had
forgotten their beliefs and pledges. Fannie/Freddie were totally
under the control of Democrat apparatchik and the Dems had
sufficient votes to block passage of Republican reform legislation.
Every word of that is all the absolute truth. I guarantee you that
while many libs may bitch and whine, there will not be a single one
who can post any proof that I’m wrong. My guess is that they won’t
even try. Many Republicans, Bush included, failed to honor their
pledges to cut government and spending. They paid for that in ’06
and again in ’08.

keeps him relevant. If you want our President to fail that’s fine,
but we have a lot of work to do so don’t mind us if we ignore your
distractions and diatribes filled with hilarious half truths and
even funnier assumptions. Go ahead and listen to Rush it will be as
entertaining as reading Aesop's Fairy Tales from an over drugged

get them should be jailed. Why is he free? I guess his opinion
changed when he got busted. |

[New

have something positive to say. I live near the new park on Big Pine and
although I was skeptical about the park in the early stages, I've really
come to love it. My husband and I use the park almost daily and there's lots
to do. I just want to say that the guys that are there daily, Greg and Jose
do an awesome job of taking care of the park. It's spotless and beautiful. I
can see the grounds from my house and I know for a fact that they work hard
to take care of it and make sure that things are running smoothly. I hope
everyone that hasn't been to the park will check it out and take advantage
of the facilities. It's a beautiful setting and we should all take pride in
it. |

[Trauma
Star] The County Administration again has been informed, as he has been
before, that Life Net would be willing to enter a standard 4-5 year contract
without any subsidy consideration. The issue has been that a couple
of Commissioners have made it very clear that they would require a long term
contract with significant penalties if Life Net didn't fulfill the
agreement. The only way Life Net would consider a long term contract is if
there was a subsidy clause that would offset potential losses for any future
downturns in the market due to volume reductions, escalating expenses or
reduced reimbursements from insurers. These variables can't be forecasted
long term.
The clause could consist of many options which may include financial
support, reduction in lease payments, reduction in fuel charges, etc. What
isn't mentioned by those who don't support Life Net is the fact that Life
Nets' proposal would actual bring to the county several hundred thousands of
dollars through crew leasing, facility leasing and fuel purchase through the
county. The county would be assured, in a long term contract, funds
in excess of 2 million dollars from Life Net through the describe means and
low probability of any need for a subsidy. Any probable subsidies could be
offset by the gains the county received prior, thus in reality costing the
county little to nothing.
The fact is that the county hasn't agreed to even discuss the ideas Life Net
are proposing and therefore they truly don't know what options can be
negotiated. That is just another reason for the BOCC to approve the RFP(?)
to see what other options they may have besides taxing the citizens more.
It is item O-2 on the January 28 BOCC agenda, (Directions re RFP for air
ambulance services). Hope everyone attends this meeting. |

[Racism]
A poster defends Obama’s failure to address the racist sewage being spewed
by many of Obama’s favorite folks by equating in to non action by Bush who
did not speak to condemn Rush Limbaugh’s wildly popular and widely embraced
political punditry. Apparently that poster does not agree with Limbaugh’s
political beliefs. That poster refuses to differentiate between political
belief and racial hatred. That is a tired but common practice for Democrats
who rush to accuse all who disagree with Obama as being racist. That
poster’s argument would have us believe that that Obama’s non action is the
equal of non action of Bush, hence Obama’s (non action) is appropriate and
proper. The dunce argument is that two wrongs make a right.
That poster is deeply
and fundamentally racist if he believes that repeated use of the terms
“nigga” and “niggas”, and spewing racial hate and invective is appropriate
conduct for persons of color because they have “earned” that right. Is that
poster trying to convince us that because of the suffering of their
ancestors, that persons of color have “earned” the right to prey on persons
of other ethnicity? Have they “earned” the right to steal and murder? That
argument is racist nonsense. If that argument is true, I'll stop counting
coup and start taking scalps. Rush Limbaugh’s message is political in
nature, the racially charged invective spewed by the creator of “My
President is Black” is a message of hate and divisiveness which cries out
for condemnation from everyone, especially Obama. |

[Vandalism]
My bar just had Brunswick come down from Miami to recover our 3 tables. The
cost was $1,500 dollars. On Saturday, we discovered that someone had marked
them up with a black felt tip marker. We will review our video surveillance
system to try and find this person. If anyone has any info as to who is
responsible, come see us and I will make it worth your time. If the person
who did this owns up to it, I will work something out with them. If nothing
happens by Monday, I will involve the law and press to have the person
charged with vandalism. |

Medicare health insurance is not free. Everybody receiving it pays
$96.40 regardless of what you receive from Social Security. And you have to
buy a separate prescription drug plan which also is not free. Neither
covers everything fully so you will probably wind up buying still more
supplemental insurance to cover the holes. Usually the $96.40 increases
every year but last year they realized they were charging the wrong part of
Medicare for something and when the made the correction they were able to
avoid increasing this years rate. Next year it will be back to normal which
means, of course, a rate increase. |

If
Bush has been yelling about the financial disaster since 2002 why
didn’t he and the majority of republicans and senate members do something?
They had the majority of both houses plus a sitting president. It means they
were bigger failures then we thought. Rome was burring and they fiddled.
Democrats did not have the numbers to outvote them. |

I
never heard about Bush predicting financial disaster if he didn’t fix
Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac (two stupid names). He controlled Congress and
had the votes. If he thought a financial disaster was coming why didn’t he

him say was the economy was strong; and, of course, we’d only been attacked
once since he was president. |

[F-16
dead stick landing] Elizabeth City, NC. See if you can keep all of the
radio transmission straight. Probably the coolest sounding voice in the
whole mix is the actual pilot of the engine out aircraft. An F-16 has only
one engine. When it goes, you are coming down. It is just a matter of
figuring out where the airplane will come to rest on terra firma. Nice job.
Cool pilot!
For those not familiar with fighter aircraft, EPU (Electrical Power Units)
provides hydraulic and electrical power in the event of failure of the
engine, electrical or hydraulics. The EPU is powered by Hydrazine which
decomposes into hot gasses as it passes across a catalyst bed or engine
bleed air (if available). The hot air passes through a turbine which drives
the emergency hydraulic pump and generator through a gear box.

[Economy
Bailout] Just the other day a Democrat Joint Tax Committee staffer was
testifying at a Senate hearing in favor of Obama’s stimulus program. He
testified that they had no idea about how many new jobs that this program
would create, nor could they tell what kind of jobs that would be created,
nor could he tell how much money would be spent. Other testimony tells us
that there will be almost no money spent immediately, that they don’t know
where, when, or how to begin spending it, or will they predict how much
benefit it will have. They do know that about 70% of the money won’t be
spent until 2011, just before the next Presidential election.
Weren’t they insisting that all of this was a huge emergency and that the
shovels had to get into the mud immediately? Plus, they do know for sure
that they don’t know where or how the recipients of the last pile of
stimulus money spent the money. Folks, it isn't working!
Robert Reich, new Presidential advisor, also a Clinton retread testified
that most stimulus jobs should go to unskilled non-whites, effectively
keeping the jobs away from skilled workers. |

[Jail
Food] I wrote to County Commissioner/Mayor George Neugent yesterday,
asking him if he can find out what the jail is paid per diem, per inmate,
because it would be unconscionable, in my opinion, for the jail to have any
profit incentive in “collecting” residents for its jail.
There are big problems with that line of thinking. The sheriff office is a
constitutional office. This means the sheriff answers to no one locally, but
only answers to the Governor and agencies headquartered in Tallahassee,
which have regulatory power over the sheriff office. I learned when Sandy
Downs ran for sheriff last year that these state regulatory agencies are a
joke; that trying to get one of them to investigate wrongdoing in our
sheriff office is like putting the fox in the henhouse. This means, I’m sad
to say, that Governor Christ probably is the only person in state government
who can, on his own, get something done about the deplorable food situation
in the Stock Island jail. Inasmuch as he is a lawyer and was our state
attorney general before he was elected governor, we can only hope that he
can be persuaded to intervene. Here is his email address:
charlie.crist@myflorida.com.
There is another body that can do something about this: the Monroe County
Commission, which approves and funds the sheriff’s budget. The commissioners
could decline to give the sheriff money until the jail food situation, at
the very least, is straightened out. Unfortunately, my experience with the
previous county commissioners, and with the five now sitting commissioners,
is they see the sheriff office as top-notch and believe anything the sheriff
or designated sheriff personnel report about complaints against the sheriff
office. Too bad we don’t have a local Citizens Review Board, which would be
a perfect body to investigate the food complaints. We don’t have one because
we elected a sheriff who said throughout his campaign that he saw no need
for a CRB; a man who repeatedly proclaimed at candidate forums that we have
a top-notch sheriff office that he was proud to be a part of; a man whose
wife was head of Internal Affairs; a man who had been demoted from major to
captain, and he never explained why during his campaign; a man who had been
convincingly accused of serious conduct unbecoming and, along with his
sheriff buddies, had terrorized the Kelly family; a man who claimed at
candidate forums that he had been cleared, when actually he had never been
investigated for the Kelly affair by Internal Affairs or by the Florida
Department of Legal Enforcement, which is one of the aforementioned state
agencies headquartered in Tallahassee.
Many
years ago, Sheriff Roth, who preceded our new sheriff , Bob Peryam, was sued
in federal court in Miami for running the worst jail in Florida (in Key
West). As a result of that lawsuit, known as the McIntyre case, Sheriff Roth
entered into a settlement with the plaintiffs, which was formalized in a
Consent Decree. The part of the Consent Decree regulating the kitchen and
food in the jail is found in the Jail Food Requirements (McIntyre) file in
the menu of the goodmorningkeywest.com home page. As far as I have been able
to determine, Sheriff Roth never complied with that part of the Consent
Decree. From that, I conclude he never intended to comply and entered into
the settlement in bad faith and perpetuated a fraud on the federal court.
From that, I conclude Sheriff Roth, now retired, should be in jail for
perjury and contempt of a United States District, and his replacement, Bob
Peryam, should be in there with him, now that we see he is following the
same jail-food regimen as his predecessor. Federal court action is another
topic, though, which I might delve into more later. Right now, you need to
pester Governor Crist and the five county commissioners unceasing.
Unceasing.
You might also wish to write to our new State Attorney, Dennis Ward, whom I
worked very hard to get elected. Dennis said at his swearing in that he
reads all of my posts. Maybe he will see something in your correspondence
that he feels the State Attorney office needs to look into. Maybe he will
see something that will cause him to be extra cautious about accepting cases
brought to him by the Monroe County Sheriff Office and the Key West City
Police Department for prosecution.

[Men

be opened when she brings it. Why is a Laundromat a really bad place to pick
up a woman? Because a woman who can't even afford a washing machine will
probably never be able to support you. Why do women have smaller feet
than men? It's one of those 'evolutionary things' that allows them to
stand closer to the kitchen sink. How do you know when a woman is about to
say something smart? When she starts a sentence with, 'A man once told
me…” If your dog is barking at the back door and your wife is yelling at
the front door, who do you let in first? The dog, of course. He'll shut up
once you let him in. Scientists have discovered a food that diminishes a
woman's sex drive by 90%. It's called wedding cake. Why do men die before

[Blacks
calling each other n****r] Is this not racism like affirmative action
is. Yesterday I wrote a comment on the new president. It wasn't vulgar, or
offensive, but you chose not to post it. It is the perfect picture of things
to come. The media will not write and report objectively about president
Obama because they will be afraid of looking racist. You have already proved
my point. He will be able take the American people to the cleaners, I'm
afraid that he already has. (Ed: It might have not been offensive to most
whites, but it was racist none the less. The media will report on Obama
based on his performance and life; only racists will report on Obama based
on his race. Few racists will admit they are.) |

First day of school six years after this election. |
|
[Racism]
Why is it a poster talking about racism, rappers and Obama omitted the fact
that Bush also has supporters who held what appeared to be racist views. I
remember the Ku Klux Klan being on TV telling Americans that they are a
conservative right wing organization that hoped Obama would win so they can
start a race war. Middle of the road Americans are the true strength of this
country and put as much credence into listening to the rappers and what they
say as they do to the white supremist. But then I guess it would take away
your ability to dog our president. Fear doesn’t sell sell well anymore.
We're all full up with that now. Keep trying because you make Americans look
better and better for voting your party out. |

[Cell
Phone Theft] A couple of weeks ago a friend told me that someone she
knew had their car broken into while they were at a football game. Their car
was parked in the lot which was adjacent to the football stadium and
specially allotted to football fans. Things stolen from the car included a
garage door remote control, and a GPS which had been prominently mounted on
the dashboard. When the victims got home, they found that their house had
been ransacked and just about everything worth anything had been stolen. The
thieves had used the GPS to guide them to the house. They then used the
garage remote control to open the garage door and gain entry to the house.
The thieves knew the owners were at the football game, they knew what time
the game was scheduled to finish and so they knew how much time they had to
clean out the house. It would appear that they had brought a truck to empty
the house of most of its contents.
This lady has now changed her habit of how she lists her names on her mobile
phone after her handbag was stolen. Her handbag, which contained her cell
phone, credit card. 20 minutes later when she called her hubby from a pay
phone telling him what had happened, hubby says 'I received your text asking
about our PIN number and I replied a little while ago.' When they rushed
down to the bank, the bank staff told them all the money was already
withdrawn. The thief had actually used the stolen cell phone to text 'Hubby’
in her contact list and got hold of the PIN number. Within 20 minutes
he'd withdrawn all the money from their bank account.
Do
not disclose the relationship between you and the people in your contact
list. Avoid using names like Home, Honey, Hubby, Sweetheart, Dad, Mom, etc.
And very importantly, when sensitive info is being asked through
texts, confirm it by calling back—don’t text valuable information. Be very
careful about going places to meet family and friends who text you. Things
like personal info and personal meetings are best done by voice. |

[Dialin’
Dave Needs Help] Hi all, this is Mark Barron. I had a business in BPK,
Barron Telecom Inc. Dialin’ Dave Hartman was probably one of the first
people I met and worked with when I moved to the Keys in 1989 and he has
been a friend ever since. I left the Keys in 2005 and moved to Asheville,
NC. I would like to ask of all of my friends and former customers to go to
the benefit at the Hogfish on Stock Island this Sunday from 3pm to 5pm. I
would greatly appreciate it. Dave’s a really good guy.
To the person who posted the event information, good job. If you have an
address for people like me who can’t be there to send some money to help
Dialin’ Dave that would be great. |

Glenn Rojohn Greenock, Pa.
won the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart, all
in one fell swoop in the skies over Germany on December
31, 1944. Fell swoop indeed.
Capt. Glenn Rojohn of the 8th Air Force's 100th Bomb Group was flying his
B-17G Flying Fortress bomber on a raid over Hamburg.
His formation had braved heavy flak to drop their bombs, then turned 180
degrees to head out over the North
Sea They had finally turned
northwest, heading back to England,
when they were jumped by German fighters at 22,000 feet. The Messerschmitt
Me-109s pressed their attack so closely that Capt. Rojohn could see the
faces of the German pilots. He and other pilots fought to remain in
formation so they could use each other's guns to defend the group.
Rojohn
saw a B-17 ahead of him burst into flames and slide sickeningly toward the
earth. He gunned his ship forward to fill in the gap. He felt a huge
impact. The big bomber shuddered, felt suddenly very heavy and began losing
altitude. Rojohn grasped almost immediately that he had collided with
another plane. A B-17 below him, piloted by Lt. William G. McNab, had
slammed the top of its fuselage into the bottom of Rojohn's. The top turret
gun of McNab's plane was now locked in the belly of Rojohn's plane and the
ball turret in the belly of Rojohn's had smashed through the top of McNab's.
The two bombers were almost perfectly aligned -- the tail of the lower plane
was slightly to the left of Rojohn's tail section. They were stuck
together, as a crewman later recalled, 'like mating dragon flies.'
Three of the engines on the bottom plane were still running, as were all
four of Rojohn's. The fourth engine on the lower bomber was on fire and the
flames were spreading to the rest of the aircraft. The two were losing
altitude quickly. Rojohn tried several times to gun his engines and break
free of the other plane. The two were inextricably locked together.
Fearing a fire, Rojohn cut his engines and rang the bailout bell. For his
crew to have any chance of parachuting, he had to keep the plane under
control somehow...
The
ball turret, hanging below the belly of the B-17, was considered by many to
be a death trap -- the worst station on the bomber. In this case, both ball
turrets figured in a swift and terrible drama of life and death. Staff Sgt.
Edward L. Woodall, Jr., in the ball turret of the lower bomber had felt the
impact of the collision above him and saw shards of metal drop past him.
Worse, he realized both electrical and hydraulic power was gone.
Remembering escape drills, he grabbed the hand crank, released the clutch
and cranked the turret and its guns until they were straight down, then
turned and climbed out the back of the turret up into the fuselage. Once
inside the plane's belly Woodall saw a chilling sight, the ball turret of
the other bomber protruding through the top of the fuselage. In that
turret, hopelessly trapped, was Staff Sgt. Joseph Russo. Several crew
members of Rojohn's plane tried frantically to crank Russo's turret around
so he could escape, but, jammed into the fuselage of the lower plane, it
refused to budge. Perhaps unaware that his voice was going out over the
intercom of his plane, Sgt. Russo began reciting his Hail Marys.
Up
in the cockpit, Capt. Rojohn and his co-pilot, 2nd Lt. William G. Leek, Jr.,
had propped their feet against the instrument panel so they could pull back
on their controls with all their strength, trying to prevent their plane
from going into a spinning dive that would prevent the crew from jumping
out. Capt. Rojohn motioned left and the two managed to wheel the huge,
collision-born hybrid of a plane back toward the German coast. Leek felt
like he was intruding on Sgt. Russo as his prayers crackled over the radio,
so he pulled off his flying helmet with its earphones.
Rojohn, immediately grasping that the crew could not exit from the bottom of
his plane, ordered his top turret gunner and his radio operator, Tech Sgts.
Orville Elkin and Edward G. Neuhaus, to make their way to the back of the
fuselage and out the waist door on the left behind the wing. Then he got
his navigator, 2nd Lt. Robert Washington, and his bombardier, Sgt. James
Shirley, to follow them. As Rojohn and Leek somehow held the plane steady,
these four men, as well as waist gunner, Sgt. Roy Little, and tail gunner,
Staff Sgt. Francis Chase, were able to bail out.
Now
the plane locked below them was aflame. Fire poured over Rojohn's left
wing. He could feel the heat from the plane below and hear the sound of 50
cal. machine gun ammunition 'cooking off' in the flames. Capt. Rojohn
ordered Lt. Leek to bail out. Leek knew that without him helping keep the
controls back, the plane would drop in a flaming spiral and the centrifugal
force would prevent Rojohn from bailing. He refused the order.
Meanwhile, German soldiers and civilians on the ground that afternoon looked
up in wonder. Some of them thought they were seeing a new Allied secret
weapon -- a strange eight-engined double bomber. But anti-aircraft gunners
on the North
Sea coastal island of Wangeroogehad seen
the collision. A German battery captain wrote in his logbook at 12:47
p.m.:
'Two fortresses collided in a formation in the NE. The planes flew hooked
together and flew 20 miles south. The two planes were unable to fight
anymore. The crash could be awaited so I stopped the firing at these two
planes.'
Suspended in his parachute in the cold December sky, Bob Washington watched
with deadly fascination as the mated bombers, trailing black smoke, fell to
earth about three miles away, their downward trip ending in an ugly boiling
blossom of fire.
In the cockpit Rojohn and Leek held grimly to the controls trying to ride a
falling rock. Leek tersely recalled, 'The ground came up faster and
faster. Praying was allowed. We gave it one last effort and slammed into
the ground.' The McNab plane on the bottom exploded, vaulting the other
B-17 upward and forward. It slammed back to the ground, sliding along until
its left wing slammed through a wooden building and the smoldering mess came
to a stop. Rojohn and Leek were still seated in their cockpit. The nose of
the plane was relatively intact, but everything from the B-17 massive wings
back was destroyed. They looked at each other incredulously. Neither was
badly injured.
Movies have
nothing on reality. Still perhaps in shock, Leek crawled out through a huge
hole behind the cockpit, felt for the familiar pack in his uniform pocket
pulled out a cigarette. He placed it in his mouth and was about to light
it. Then he noticed a young German soldier pointing a rifle at him. The
soldier looked scared and annoyed. He grabbed the cigarette out of Leak's
mouth and pointed down to the gasoline pouring out over the wing from a
ruptured fuel tank.
Two of the six men who parachuted from Rojohn's plane did not survive the
jump. But the other four and, amazingly, four men from the other bomber,
including ball turret gunner Woodall, survived. All were taken prisoner.
Several of them were interrogated at length by the Germans until they were
satisfied that what had crashed was not a new American secret weapon |

[Who
Visits National Key Deer Refuge] The National Key Deer Refuge, due to
its easy land accessibility in the Florida Keys attracts an estimated
280,000 visits a year. This includes the lands on Big Pine, No Name, Cudjoe,
Sugarloaf and Saddlebunch Keys and a large area of waters in the
Backcountry. A large number of these visitors are bug hunters during the
sport lobster season. However, the Blue Hole site on Big Pine Key with its
often seen alligators is also a highly sought visitor site attracting
approximately 100,000 visits a year.
Visitation at the
refuge’s visitor center is also on the rise attracting 10,487 visitors in
2008. Visitors come from every state in the Union, its territories and many
foreign countries. The top five states we receive visitors from were Florida
(1,066), Pennsylvania (324), New York (302), Michigan (267) and
Massachusetts (215) . The top five foreign countries were Canada (311),
Germany (180), United Kingdom (168), Netherlands (33) and Belgium (30).
Visitors from the Florida Keys numbered 280. So, two states and a foreign
country from far away had more visitors than did local residents. Local
residents are encouraged to visit the center and the Key deer Bookstore,
open Monday through Friday and sometimes on Saturday during the winter.
Visitors should call the center ahead of time, particularly during the late
spring through fall as the center is not open all the time due to a lack of
staff and volunteers. Admission is free.
Of course, as with the
rest of the Keys economy, most of the visitors are during the peak winter
season, January through April. Approximately 75% of the visitation is during
these four months. As with the other residents on the islands, we too look
forward to a less hectic summer season. However, like the other businesses
in the Keys, we also look forward to the tourists as in part, our
Congressional budget is directly related to the number of visitors we
record.

a nasty drunk. Ask your friends or lack thereof. They will tell you. You
make people cry. You say mean things. Ask people. Just in case you are
still in denial here are a few clues: OJ had a wife with the same name,

this gives you enough insight to see that it is you. |

[The
Constitution needs to change or we will perish] You used the example of
those found guilty of gun crimes who shouldn't be legally banned from owning
a firearm. You cannot purchase a firearm if you have been convicted of
any felony, not just with a gun. If a restraining order has been placed
against you, if you have been convicted of domestic violence, if you have
been dishonorably discharged from the military or have been found mentally
incompetent—you can’t own a gun. When you have been found guilty of a
felony crime, you lose your civil rights. You cannot vote and you cannot buy
a gun. The Constitution is there to protect the rights of law
abiding citizens in our society. It can be modified to add protection (i.e.
- women's right to vote) but changing the very base of our freedoms and
democracy takes much time and careful consideration. |

[Wiretaps] Yesterday a poster told us of the media
interviews of an Ex NSA hired hand who claimed to have damning information
concerning illegal wiretaps ordered by the Bush Administration. The poster
failed to provide us with any further info. Captain Half Truth, once again
is proud to provide you with the whole truth for your evaluation.
The Ex NSA analyst is Russell Tice of Linthicum, Md. Please
be advised that you can listen to the interview in question by Keith
Olberman on MSNBC, that bastion of fair, factual, and non-biased reportage.
The whole shebang is available on the web. In the interview Tice claimed
that NSA monitored “all communications” (think about that all
communication). Tice said that all communications were “filtered” apparently
looking for trigger words or phrases. Tice refused to tell of any single
instance of “illegal wiretaps” in his complaint about the process. Tice in
essence described what he claimed was the process. That process is intended
to be a closely held secret of our ways and means of intelligence gathering
process. Folks you need to know that Tice said all of this in 2002 at about
the time he was fired from NSA. In 2001 Tice made a false accusation against
a coworker accusing him of being a spy for China. Tice was examined by a NSA
forensic psychologist and was labeled as being “paranoid” and “psychotic”.
Tice lost his top secret security clearance as a result.
He was fired from the NSA in 2005 after spending his last
years at the agency pumping gas and working in an agency warehouse. Tice is
a bitter, troubled, and vindictive individual. He was challenged by Olberman
to provide specifics, and he dodged the question. I wonder, did that fair
and balanced MSNBC interviewer Keith Olberman, tell all of that to his
audience? So folk, if you’re interested check it all out on the web. It’s
Capt. Half Truth’s opinion that 1. Tice is a nut case not worthy of belief
who is seeking the glare of the limelight. 2. Olberman's slobbering zeal for
a hit Bush story has blinded him to the many and gaping holes in this 7 year
old fairy tale. |

[If
you fly on non-US carriers, you take your chances] You need to check
your facts on the safety record of non-US airlines; they do not support what
you are stating. In fact the number of 'events' by UA and AA is higher then
almost all other major airlines, domestic or foreign. I also travel
extensively overseas (300,000 miles/year) and US carriers are generally my
last choice, for many reasons.
I am also a pilot so I know something about the regulations. I don't believe
for a minute this guy was not instrument rated. In fact, I just read the
article and that is not what it said. I suggest you reread it, it talks
about 'type-rating', something completely different. |

[Hope
Obama Fails] Yesterday’s bizarre poster is so far out of touch with
reality and history that its beyond my limited skills to place a metaphor to
print. Contrary to his blather, Fannie Mae had been a source of great
concern for the Bush admin since at least 2002, and every single year
since. Bush and other Republicans made repeated attempts to pass reform
legislation and they sounded loud and clear warnings and forecasts that
Fannie/Freddie were grave threats to our economy. All of that was killed by
Democrats. Our new President voted against reform. All of that is of rock
solid, crystal clear history, it's beyond denial. Dear reader, if you’re
interested you can see a brief chronology at the link below.
The Dem poster is correct on one issue. It is my view that the America that
Obama seems to be trying to invent is not an America that will be the land
of the free that we know today. Obama wants to trash huge components of our
society, I do not want Obama to restructure America as a Socialist oligarchy
as is his goal. I hope he fails, miserably, and soon.

[Sloan's Space] Jesus tried very hard to teach
his disciples how to live in the way he lived, but he didn’t do much good.
They were still juvenile delinquents when he was taken from them. They
argued and boasted among themselves. They betrayed him at every turn. They
were afraid and superstitious. All of which continued until Pentecost, when
they received the Holy Ghost, and then they moved into their own ministries.
Jesus had planted the seed, but the Holy Ghost is what led them after
Pentecost.
If the disciples had not followed the Holy Ghost
after Pentecost, that would have been the blasphemy Jesus had warned them
not to commit, and they would not have been forgiven. I said Jesus had to
leave his disciples because they were holding him back, like millstones
around his neck, preventing him from doing what he needed to do next, and if
he had stayed with them, it would have held them back, looking always to
him, instead of to the Holy Ghost to lead them.

You republicans are really showing your true colors. Whatever
happened to "Country First"? How bad off does the country have to get
before you realize there's a problem? How many homes and jobs need to be
lost? How many people need to die because of inadequate healthcare? It
seems like every fourth house in BP was in foreclosure before
the economy collapsed, with similar problems nationwide, yet no
republican saw a problem until Wall Street collapsed.
Your leaders are out of touch with what normal people are going through;
either that or they just don't care about others (I believe the latter).
What's the point of even having a government if the people in it don't
do anything but command high salaries?Your solution to everything: Do
nothing. Obama saw a problem with the economy a year before it became
undeniable, but instead of crediting him for his foresight and vision of
a better, more respectable, socially conscious America, you criticize
his vision and hope for failure. "Country First"? You don’t have any
solutions, all you can do is blame someone else. Thank God our country's
future is no longer in your hands. |

[Trauma
Star Correction] A poster was mistaken in his comments yesterday
when he wrote “Trauma Star will land at the emergency scene saving
precious time. The other guys will only land at the hospital”.
The other guys are
called Life Net and they do and will respond to scene calls and land at
a designated landing zone set up by an emergency service. The Life Net
system does this hundreds of times throughout the U.S. on a daily basis.
In Key West, they normally will respond to the Airport at the Ground
EMS’s request as does Trauma Star.
Saving time in
responding to scene calls is important. That is why Life Net are first
called by the Key West Rescue for emergencies in the City Limits.
Unfortunately the County still calls Trauma Star for emergencies as far
as Stock Island where they have their aircraft. This action
significantly delays the process of the patient receiving the higher
level of care from an Air Medical Team. |

[McCoy
Terminal] The Monroe County Commission at its meeting Wednesday will
address the naming of public buildings. The discussion comes as the
county is finishing construction on a new Key West International Airport
terminal, which has been named after former County Commissioner Sonny
McCoy. Vocal opposition has given way to residents lobbying the
commission to remove McCoy's name from the building, and community
activist and watchdog Diane Beruldsen has started a petition drive on
her Web site,
http://www.citizenjane.net asking the county to rename the
terminal. Critics say McCoy, who was voted out of office in the Aug. 26
primary, made unpopular decisions and as one of the "Gang of Three"
voted in a bloc. Most recently, a civil jury said he sexually harassed
his former aide, Celeste Bruno, and ordered the county to pay her
$48,400. As of Wednesday, 234 people had signed the petition to rename
the building. Only one person wanted to keep it, with the caveat that
only the bathroom be named after McCoy.
"There are a lot of people who are really angry about this," Beruldsen
said, adding that McCoy's behavior was "offensive" and cost county
taxpayers money. "A lot of people are really passionate about this
issue." The McCoy Terminal Complex will be so-named unless the
commission directs the staff to change the name. "Since the [Board of
County Commissioners] voted to name the project, only the BOCC can
change the name of the project," Airports Director Peter Horton said.
"Therefore, one who wishes to make that happen should approach the BOCC
either collectively or individually and make his or her feelings known."
Commissioners this week had mixed reactions to the idea. Mario Di
Gennaro said he would not change the name, as the "previous County
Commission had approved it." "I will abide by their decision," Di
Gennaro said, "I have no reason to question it" (DiGennaro was on that
commission).
Kim
Wigington and Heather Carruthers said the county should not officially
dedicate the building - tentatively scheduled for July - until the
courts resolve McCoy's sexual harassment case, which the county has
appealed, and until the commission can get more public input on the
matter. "If we just postpone, it will not do any harm," Wigington said.
"I want to hear what the public has to say on the issue." Sylvia Murphy
said she does not think any public building should be named after a
person - and that includes the McCoy terminal. Mayor George Neugent said
it would be "premature" to rename the terminal until the appeal is
resolved and the commission can discuss writing a policy about naming
future public facilities. He will raise the issue at the meeting next
week in Key West.
Beruldsen and others have begun to lobby the commission to adopt a
policy that reserves the honor for people who have been dead for at
least 10 years - something Murphy, Wigington and Carruthers said they
could support. Di Gennaro said he has not given much thought to a new
policy on naming buildings. Neugent, who several years ago initiated a
proposal to name the Plantation Key sheriff's substation after
then-Sheriff Rick Roth, said he has not made up his mind about a new
policy. "There are well-deserving people and ... they would not be
allowed to have a building named after them," under a 10-year policy,
Neugent said. "[Roth] was a well-deserving person of that. Maybe we
shouldn't name buildings after anybody."
The
county spent $1,145 for the only sign designating the structure the
McCoy Terminal Complex, a standard 28-by- 32-inch bronze dedication
plaque on the building's exterior, Horton said. The County Commission
approved the wording nearly two years ago. The sign lists the names of
all five county commissioners at the time the project started, as well
as former County Administrator Tom Willi and Engineering Division
Director Dave Koppel. The County Commission fired Willi in December 2007
and his replacement, Roman Gastesi, last week laid off Koppel effective
Feb. 13.
McCoy, with his own money, purchased an additional plaque and bust of
himself that was to be placed inside the terminal building, Horton said
in an e-mail to Gastesi earlier this month. Because of the controversy,
however, Horton wrote, "We should seek BOCC approval before allowing
these items to be installed." ~tohara@keysnews.com |

[Post
Racialism] Those of us who express grave reservations about Obama’s
background, beliefs, and goals are vilified by many of his supporters
and denounced as being racist simply because we have the temerity to
disagree. Obama chooses to embrace/exploit the hip hop world and
culture, as is his right. Indeed, many hip hop celebs are part and
parcel of his VIP entourage, and they were an important component of his
campaign. At the very genesis of the Obama administration we were
treated to a taste of searing racism in a new anthem that sings in
praise of Obama the black man; not Obama the wise man, nor Obama the
righter of wrongs. No, it’s in praise of the blackness of Obama.
The words of the anthem are widely available on the web, but the title
is My President is Black. At least at one inaugural celebration the
new anthem was the hit of the night, the performers: Rappers Young Jeezy
and Jay-Z crazily cursed and screamed with joy repeatedly ranting
“Nigga” and “Niggaz” as the crowd went wild to Jeezy’s new national
anthem: My President Is Black. Try to imagine the firestorm if
whites were to use those same words! T shirts, apparel, and the slogan
affixed to a wide variety of products are selling wildly to Obamaist of
all races. One might say that this is simply a cry of ethnic pride. Than
notion is belied by the fact that the message of the anthem is replete
with bitter racism and speaks in praise of a criminal culture. Until
Obama speaks out against this racist sewage, any notion of post
racialism is pure fantasy.
Folks, this is a real tragedy. I’ve got to wonder how the
Obama’s counsel their children on these matters. |

B.O. is in the
White House and he is changing things as was expected, but who's
pulling his strings? Certainly he isn't initiating so may changes with
the lack of governmental experience he has. Hopefully this guy will see
the light and do it right or as least not screw things up as many assume
he will. How come he never mentioned the Welfare System or did he? What
about AIDS and other problems facing America, like over population, over
migration, over crediting, degraded education, junk foods, price gouging
and many other semi-important items? Scary isn't it? |

Pope Benedict XVI is
cleverly positioning the Vatican to be the legal standard
for European law. In a move that has taken the Italian government by
surprise, the pope has divorced
the Vatican State from Italian national law, effective from
January 1. With this move the Vatican State immediately reverts to its pre-1929 status, meaning that the pope now becomes the
supreme authority on judging which of
those laws enacted by the Italian government the Vatican State will
choose to abide by and which it will reject.
This is a clever ploy with tremendous consequences for the future.
The pope firmly believes that "his is
the one true church". The pope declared last year that the only way for
man to gain salvation is through
conversion to the Catholic faith. Twice during the
last quarter of 2008, Benedict referred to the need for the masses to
prepare for the return of Christ. His influence was behind a failed effort
during 2008 to write the celebration of Sunday, the renowned sign
of global Catholicism, into EU law as a compulsory day of rest. Observing
the current worldwide economic chaos, he indicated that
the only way to establish a sound foundation for a global economy is
through attachment to a religion, the implication being his "one
true church." |

[Presidential
Oath] President Barack Obama did not "goof" the Oath of Office.
Chief Justice Roberts got the verbiage wrong. Obama waited for him to
repeat it correctly, per the US Constitution. Just to make sure that
everything was in order and legal, President Obama took the Oath of
Office a
second
time from Chief Justice Roberts privately in the White House on the day
after Inauguration Day. You may not like President Obama, but the facts

[Captain
Half Truth] Wednesday a former NSA (National Security Agency)
analyst was interviewed on several news networks (probably not Fix News,
however) and said that the Bush wire tapping went far beyond the level
we were told by the administration. He said that virtually all cell and
email communications were sent through filters and computer programs to
screen for potential further analysis by the government. He also said
that the program far exceeded the justice department's authorization
that was fed to the public. Combining this with torture and suspension
of habeas corpus suggest to me that you should re-examine your belief
that the Bush administration did not trample on the constitution. |

[Obama Invites Terrorist] Obama’s second full day in office was
spent kicking off the destruction of the good works that President Bush
put in place to keep up safe in our homes. He sure is in a huge hurry to
kill those policies that have worked for the last 7 years. Obama tells
us how proud he is to be protecting the "rights" of those who have
fought long and hard to kill us and our children. Do you feel all
righteous and puffed-up proud at his victory? Do you feel that you and
your children are safer? I think about Christine Hanson, 2 years old, of
Groton, Mass., She and her parents were aboard the plane that crashed
into the south tower. Her killers are among the major beneficiaries of
Obama’s election. |

[Code Enforcement Fiasco] This week’s main
local southernmost news reports center around the reinstatement of Jim
Young to his position as Manager of Code Enforcement, after the city
commission and city attorney were pressured by Jim’s attorney, Hugh
Morgan, to concede that Jim had been fired for, imagine it, enforcing
the city codes fairly across the board. In doing so, Jim upset local
power brokers who were accustomed to getting preferential bubba
treatment, which is what got him fired.
According to today’s Key West the Newspaper’s report, both Jim and Hugh,
commendably, took the approach that this was not about money but was
about correcting a wrong. KWTN reported Jim as saying Hugh maybe wrote
off over $80,000 in attorney fees. I told Hugh’s former law partner, Jim
Hendrick, the other night during our weekly chess wits-matching, which
usually goes his way, that the city should have paid all of Jim’s
attorney fees, because Jim never did anything wrong. I said the city
should have volunteered to do this, for why should Jim be out
any money for what the city did wrong? It paid him the wages he lost. It
should pay his for getting what the city did wrong corrected.
When my chess nemesis said there was more to the case, I said I did not
see more to it. I saw a dedicated city employee wrongfully fired for
doing his job in a way that pissed off some bubbas; a man the city
commission feels so good about now, as I read the news, that it has
asked him to reorganize and reform the city’s code enforcement
operation. Maybe I’m being too simplistic here. If so, I would
appreciate someone explaining why. And I would appreciate someone
explaining why the city commission sitting when Jim was fired went along
with it. Just joking. We all know why they went along with it. They were
bubbas. More...Today'sFloridaKeysDrivel |

That a
commercial Flybe, Wales pilot had no Instrument Flight Rating (IFR)
is shocking. Us Americans bash the FAA (I'm one of them, we need to
ditch the old system in lieu of a satellite guided system) but at least
they insure the pilot is qualified to fly the plane he's sitting in. I
travel extensively overseas and always fly American based carriers
because of the US FAA standards that must be adhered to. If you fly on
non US carriers, you take your chances. I wonder if this non-IFR
certified pilot could land a powerless jet in the west river of
Manhattan? |

[Constitution]
To the person
that thinks the Constitution shouldn’t be changed to fit a circumstance.
Does that mean since the Constitution says we have "the right to bear
arms" maybe you should petition the Supreme Court so that the people who
are guilty of firearm crimes shouldn’t be legally banned from having
guns. The Constitution does not say "The right to bear arms unless you
are guilty of weapons and gun violations". There’s your example of a
living document changed to fit in today's world. History has always

[From
Erika] Since the poster used my name, I feel obligated to comment.
First, please know that I am not as naive as you think. I too realize
the ridiculous flaw involved in having the principal be in charge of
collecting the survey and I made that clear to members of the board. My
email to the parents however asked you all to also attend the planning
meeting to make sure that the details of the survey were reported
accurately. If we want things to change, and I know for a fact many of
us do, approaching the board is the only way to achieve that. Sure, I
have had my pay docked, been dismissed, disrespected and slandered
because of speaking up, but it's easy to pick on just one person. If
more parents turned out for the meetings, then all those voices could
not be ignored.
Please know that no one single person can keep this little school from
succeeding. Spend some time at the school and you'll realize we have
the most amazing teachers in the keys. We have students ready and
willing to work hard and you'd be touched watching them help each other
accomplish things. And we have have incredible parents who spend hours
upon hours volunteering to make this a great school, whether it's
painting, or coordinating events for the children, digging holes to get
the playground shades up, traveling to Miami to make supplies available
to the parents so they don't have to go back-to-school shopping, being
there for anything the teachers or staff need and spending time and
effort year-round raising funds to make all this possible.
So, although I totally understand your frustration and your need to
vent, I think your energy would be better spent addressing those who can
make a difference rather than posting on this forum with a bogus email
address. Yeah, I'm also not naive enough not to realize you just made
that email address up. |

[Social Security] Kudos to the poster who admitted
that his investing skills were lacking. I’m just like you, I can tie my
shoes (on the rare occasions that I wear them), but that is about the
level of my skill in investing. I’ve lost on nearly every market
investment I’ve made. But, I get huge benefit from a pension fund that
has been cautiously invested in stocks, bonds, and other investment
vehicles by professional investment managers.
I’m a State of Florida pensioner. The state has a board and
full time staff that manages our pension fund. It’s true that the fund
has lost bucks in the current mess, but not nearly enough to threaten
pension payments or the life of the fund. That’s the kind of SS reform
that we should have. A try was made a couple of years ago to reform SS.
The reform would have permitted everyone to keep their existing standard
SS or to go into a system like the Florida system that had a very small
degree of risk but vastly better benefits. The measure was shot down by
the Democrats strictly for political reasons. They wanted to deny Bush
the bragging rights. You’re also flat wrong when you claim that Bush
said that his SS reform plan was flawed in his farewell press
conference. He didn’t say that! He simply said that he chose the wrong
time to push for it. He had introduced the plan right after the ’04
elections; he said that he should have chosen that time to introduce
immigration reform. He suggests that immigration reform should have been
the higher priority and that it would have been a stronger politically
strategic move. If you doubt this, read the press conference transcript
yourself, I did. Watch for the Democrats to soon push for nearly the
exact SS reform that Bush pushed, but they will add the claim that it
would help our economy. They should, it would. |

[Trauma

does seem to be something very smelly, and fishy about this whole set

[Capt
Half Truth]
I’m the poster that yesterday’s Bush hater du jour called
“Capt Half Truth”. This is a stereotypical liberal tactic: if you don’t
have the proof or facts, attack by name calling. That dude is mostly out
in left field, but he is right about the fact that I don’t remember
President Bush destroying any part of the Constitution.
Why? Simple, Bush didn’t. I challenge the name caller to
cite and prove that silly accusation. But folks, remember that damaging
the Constitution is wrong whoever does it, and there’s not a shred of
doubt that the Liberals/Progressives/Democrats want to rip the
Constitution. They consider it a document to be changed to fit the
times. They want to change it from a foundational document to a document
of situational ethics. They see the Constitution as a barrier to the
doctrinaire societal change that they pursue, it always has been so.
Unless you insist, I’ll spare you a laundry list of proof. |
[Cell
Phone Do Not Call] Here’s what you need to know about the National
Do Not Call Registry program: FCC regulations prohibit telemarketers
from using automated dialers to call cell phone numbers. Automated
dialers are standard in the industry, so most telemarketers are barred
from calling consumers on their cell phones without their consent.
The federal government does not maintain a national cell phone registry.
Personal cell phone users have always been able to add their numbers to
the National Do Not Call Registry — the same Registry consumers use to
register their land lines — either online at
www.donotcall.gov or by calling toll-free 1-888-382-1222 from the
telephone number they wish to register. Registrations become effective
within 31 days of signing up and are active for five years. There is no
cut-off date or deadline for registrations.
Business-to-business
calls are not covered under the Registry.

[Gas
Tax] I am amazed that our own commissioners are thinking about a 6
cent gas tax increase. We already pay more then the people that would be
coming in to visit. It’s ridiculous. One of the repercussions would be
that tourists would simply fill up their vehicles before they get to the
Keys. They would then put in just enough fuel to get back to Florida
City before they fill up again. If this happens I encourage everyone to
fight back by doing things such as purchasing items on line to avoid
paying sales taxe and just buy enough fuel to get you thru 2 days at a
time. It’s a bit of a pain but we need to have our voices heard. Any
other suggestions on how to fight back against this tax? Heaven forbid a
commissioner would take a pay cut. This increase will hurt every small
business in the Keys and all of its citizens especially the poor.
Service companies will just pass the increase on to its customers. |

[Lousy

a slide out QWERTY keyboard, 3.1” screen, weighs less than five ounces,
8GB of storage – and the killer app - it can cut, copy and paste! You
can also send text messages with attachments. To top it all off
it has a 3 megapixel camera with flash. Which reminds me that it
can also run Adobe Flash.
These are all things the iPod has been lacking. Although the screen is a
little smaller than the iPhone the Pre fits nicely into your shirt
pocket. |

[Follow Me]
Maybe a reason I do not have a woman in my life is that my experience
has proven that women simply do not like to be with a man who is told
24/7/365, by God what to do; nor do they like having the same experience
themselves, which the trade-off they must make to be with me. When they
don’t do what is given to them to do, it starts backing up in me and I
start getting sick and screwed up. If that continues, they are taken
away from me, to protect me.
It is much the same with people I am given to work closely with on
something. For example, I was supposed to do all I could to help Sandy
Downs get elected sheriff of Monroe County. I spent more time on her
campaign than I did on my own county commission campaign which I was
seeking at the same time. Although it is only my opinion, I feel
comfortable saying Sandy would have been elected sheriff if she had done
what she was supposed to do, and we now would have a sheriff dedicated
to actually living by and seeing to it that all sheriff personnel live
by the values and code of ethics posted on the sheriff’s website, which
did not happen under now retired Rick Roth’s tenure as sheriff, and will
not happen under the tenure of his hand-picked replacement, Bob Peryam.
I frequently suffered tremendous internal difficulty because Sandy did
not take care of the business she needed to take care of, to clear the
way for her to run for sheriff. And I now am suffering tremendous
internal difficulty because Lorri Szostak, M.D. has put off coming down
to the Keys from Vermont, where she lives, to try get inside our county
jail on Stock Island and eat meals with the inmates and see what they
are being fed and hear what they say about what they have been fed in
the past. Lorri already experienced a very loud and jolting signal that
she needed to stop writing emails and come down here to try to get in
the jail and visit with the inmates. But then, if Sandy had done what
she was supposed to do, the food situation in the jail would already be
getting addressed without Lorri having even been drawn into it, for
Sandy would have taken care of the food situation on her own. And a lot
of other situations in the sheriff office that needed taking of.
What I’m getting around to saying is this: if the people I am given to
work with on something important to God are not ready to work in the way
I work, then I prefer to work alone, because it’s a hell of a lot easier
on me physically and spiritually, and a hell of a lot less heartache and
aggravation. It’s not how I want it to be, but it’s easier for me to go
it alone, than to carry someone else’s load for them.

[Charlie
Gibson]
I have a great big favor to ask of you. My nephew has a two year old
son, Charlie, who has leukemia. He's about to undergo a very rough
treatment, along with three more years ahead of him of chemo.
Matthew Gibson, his father, has to drive 10 hours each time he visits
Charlie. Charlie's mother will not allow Matt to spend the nights at
her house (with her parents) and so he must hotel it. There are special
hotels that are sponsored by the hosptial, and they can turn in "pop
tops" for credit towards the cost of the hotel. It brings the hotel
room down to about $15 a night, a huge savings for Matt. He told me
yesterday that was one of the biggest things I could do to help, next to
getting my bone marrow tested. Since I am adopted, it's not likely that
I will be a match, but am still checking out that option.
So my request is that if you can just pop the top off of all
soda/pop/beer/tomato cans and save them for me it will be so, so, so
much appreciated. Below is Charlie's website, if you want to check it
out.

If you are local, I would be very happy to pick them up, or you can drop

Thanks for all the help you can be. It's more appreciated than you will
ever know. |

[Riley's
Surreal Experience] I am sending this to the Coconut Telegraph
because I have to share this with someone. It was too amazing to keep
it between my co-workers and I.
This morning I arrived at work at a local Keys veterinarian clinic. An
emergency had come in overnight-- a yellow lab named Riley. We found
out early this morning that Riley had cancer in his spine and his
lungs. There was no treatment and he was suffering. With consent from
the owner it was decided to euthanize him. Around 9:30am his owner
arrived and we went through the proceedings to end his suffering. It
was quick and painless. Afterward, we got very busy in the clinic.
While I was rushing around I noticed the kennel that Riley had been in
had not yet been cleaned. As quickly as possible I scooped up the
newspapers that had been on the floor of his kennel and threw them in
the trash. I turned around to clean the cage with disinfectant and
noticed a single shred of newspaper I left behind lying on the bottom of
the cage. Look at the photo and read what it says.
This was too much of a coincidence to not have an impact on me. I am
keeping this piece of paper for now, if the owner finds out about this
and would like to have it I would happily give it to him. I really
don't want to mention the last name because this is so incredibly odd
and not everyone feels the same way about these things. I believe he
went home, and it was ok. |

[Obama's
Victory--A British view] A victory for the hysterical Oprah Winfrey,
the mad racist preacher Jeremiah Wright, the US mainstream media who
abandoned any sense of objectivity long ago, Europeans who despise
America largely because they depend on her, comics who claim to be
dangerous and fearless but would not dare attack genuinely powerful
special interest groups. A victory for Obama-worshippers everywhere. A
victory for the cult of the cult. A man who has done little with his
life but has written about his achievements as if he had found the cure
for cancer in between winning a marathon and building a nuclear reactor
with his teeth. Victory for style over substance, hyperbole over
history, rabble-raising over reality. A victory for Hollywood , the most
dysfunctional community in the world. Victory for Streisand, Spielberg,
Soros, Moore, and Sarandon. Victory for those who prefer welfare to will
and interference to independence. For those who settle for group think
and herd mentality rather than those who fight for individual initiative
and the right to be out of step with meager political fashion. Victory
for a man who is no friend of freedom. He and his people have already
stated that media has to be controlled so as to be balanced, without
realizing the extraordinary irony within that statement.
Like
most liberal zealots, the Obama worshippers constantly speak of FOX and
Limbaugh, when the vast bulk of television stations and newspapers are
drastically liberal and anti-conservative. Senior Democrat Chuck Schumer
said that just as pornography should be censored, so should talk radio.
In other words, one of the few free and open means of popular expression
may well be cornered and beaten by bullies who even in triumph cannot
tolerate any criticism and opposition. A victory for those who believe
the state is better qualified to raise children than the family, for
those who prefer teachers' unions to teaching and for those who are
naively convinced that if the West is sufficiently weak towards its
enemies, war and terror will dissolve as quickly as the tears on the
face of a leftist celebrity. A victory for social democracy even after
most of Europe has come to the painful conclusion that social democracy
leads to mediocrity, failure, unemployment, inflation, higher taxes and
economic stagnation. A victory for intrusive lawyers, banal
sentimentalists, social extremists and urban snobs. Congratulations
America ! |

Social Security will surely implode, however when this day of
reckoning arrives, recipients will get their money from our tax system.
Everyone’s taxes will increase, or we will merely inflate, which is
nothing but another bailout. Pray tell, where else would we get it? It
is all a never ending spiral. When this happens to individuals it is
called bankruptcy. Eventually the piper must get paid, defying the laws
of economics is like trying to defy gravity--it can't be done. Of course
that is not ruling out a completely different form of government, which
is certainly not out of the question. For God sake, we have been running
the printing presses 24/7 for years now, I am amazed at how long this
chicanery has been able to pass as sound business. It’s totally nuts! |
|
[Republicans
Have Humor] The new Administration is a bucket of laughs. Here a
reprise of headlines from day one: “Biden
Takes Shot at Roberts for Flubbing Presidential Oath” can you imagine Biden
who said “Stand up Charlie and take a bow” to a paraplegic in a wheel
chair, mocking anyone for verbal flubs! Then there’s “Disorderly is an
understatement to describe the White House press office, where phones are
not working and staff names are misspelled on their office doors and desks.”
Great job Obama transition team! It’s great news whenever the press is
all bollixed up. I really like this one “Geithner
apologizes (again) for not paying taxes”.
Now this dude is going to be Secretary of the Treasury, your tax collector,
and he’s getting a pass by saying “Oops, my bad, Sorry”. Wait till you try
that. Keep smiling fans. |

[Empire
Building] When in England, at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell
was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an
example of empire building by George Bush.
He answered by saying, 'Over the years, the United States has sent many of
its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond
our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is
enough to bury those that did not return.' |

[Trauma
Star Tax]
Why are we going to pay more taxes? What was the point of the Trauma Star
referendum? It was only done because the BOCC did not have the guts to do
their job (make a decision.) So, here we are all over again. After enduring
4 months of political hype and hysteria, we're
still
listening to it, and we're no further ahead. |

[Inauguration] Ask yourselves just one question four years from

almost everyone will be able to answer yes. Particularly the troops.
Are you better off than you were in 2000? |

[SS invested in
the stock market] “Hugely increased pensions” would only be realized
from those that invested wisely. That would leave me out. I lost a home
in the 2000 bubble bust. I had no idea what I was investing in (and
still don’t). I would buy whatever CNBC’s Squawk Box would tell me to
buy. There are more stock market dummies like me than that are savvy
investors, that’s why Bush’s idea was so overwhelmingly rejected. Hell,
even Bush said it was a bad idea at his farewell press conference. Can
you imagine what would happen if I had invested my retirement SS in this
financial climate? I’d loose this house too.
Our current system
is doomed to crash, but gambling people’s retirement money is also
doomed to crash. They need to fix SS, but not that way. |

[Kilts
in the White House]
Calls have been made for Barack Obama to mark his inauguration as US
President by creating his own tartan. The move would be the ideal way to
celebrate Mr Obama's Scottish ancestry and boost tourism. Mr Obama can
be traced to William the Lion, who ruled Scotland from 1165 to 1214.
“You can't hide your lion thighs.” The entire kilt industry depends on
it: The Scottish Conservatives have written to Mr Obama about the
tartan, which the party said could boost tartan exports amid the
economic downturn.
Real Scotsmen famously wear nothing under their kilts, so, if Obama does
decide to play Jock McBailout, he risks decimating the entire American
underwear industry. |

is we have a brand new band grandbaby. For those of you who don’t know,
our daughter Amanda and Dave and Barb’s son Tyler just had a beautiful
baby girl named Courtney Grace. She weighed 24 pounds, just kidding. Her
actual weight was 8 pounds and 5 ounces and everyone is doing well. We
had a band meeting and decided we are taking Courtney on the road with
us next summer. Now, we haven’t run this past her parents but what the
heck, baby boomers rule, right? I am working now trying to figure how to
put a side cart on the bus, more to follow on this. |

[Car Dents]
I'm sick and tired of people’s lack of respect for personal property.
Three times since new years my car has been hit, once downtown, and
twice in W/D parking lot in BPK. All the times I was parked legally,

[Charter
School Principal]
I saw the accusation
in the column the other day about the Charter School principal and was
upset by it, as my son goes to that school. I am not privileged to
being able to take the time to participate in the morning activates and
mingling of parents to see how things work. But I do know some of the
people that do most of the grunt work and they work very hard not to
exclude the other staff and teachers. They try to provide a quality
environment, considering it is their children that are there too.
Thanks to the column’s policy of printing the email address when you
slander someone. I contacted that person that day and asked them their
opinion of what was going on. As of tonight ( Tuesday) I have not heard
from them. So I will be at the meeting tonight and I hope that
person will be there to back up what they said. |

[Moving
to Cuba where your party will win] Hey, easy there fellow countryman
(or woman). You're being a tad off the wall, over the top, especially
with your Cuba reference (which is social bigotry,
derogatory, disrespectful and high-horse rhetoric). Me and many of my
fellow Americans agree with the Monday poster about "not my country".
In case you forget, we are just as entitled to our opinion as you are
yours. Yet, you do not hear us telling you to leave. What we can live
with and you don't accept is that it is not yours or mine--it's all of
ours, jointly. We're in this together, and nobody's
going anywhere.
When
the mantra was love it or leave it, my generation chose to love it,
and stood up and made change. Republican in or out, democrat in or out,
it's all cyclical. What's left are the American people, still trying to
get along with each other. |

[Bullet
Control] A bill that is being pushed in 18 states requires all
ammunition to be encoded by the manufacture a data bas e of all
ammunition sales. So they will know how much you buy and what calibers.
Nobody can sell any ammunition after June 30, 2009 unless the ammunition
is coded. Any privately held un-coded ammunition must be destroyed by
July 1, 2011. (Including hand loaded ammo.) They will also charge a .05
cent tax on every round so every box of ammo you buy will go up at least
$2.50 or more!
If they can
deprive you of ammo they do not need to take your gun.
This legislation
is currently pending in 18 states: Alabama, Arizona, California,
Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Mississippi,
Missouri, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South
Carolina, Tennessee, and Washington.

the anti-gun group that is sponsoring this legislation and the specific
legislation for each state, go to:

[Sense of Humor] There’s been plenty to grin about
in just the last couple of days, Joltin’ Joe Biden has been the source
of several big grins. Did you see Joe and Obama placing a wreath at the
Tomb of the Unknown Soldier? Joe, Obama and their escorting guard
solemnly walked the wreath to the tomb, then, with great respect placed
it at the tomb. Joe then did a neat “about face” left Obama and the
escort facing the tomb, and Joe marched smartly away with his back to
the tomb while Obama and the escort, following protocol, slowly and
respectfully backed away. It looked like Joe had missed a call in a
square dance. Joe is going to be a riot at some of these state dinners.
Then Mrs. Joe Biden grabbed center stage and embarrassed
the crap out of Joe when she told Oprah that she had told Joe to turn
down Barak’s offer to be the Secretary of State. Joe then had to
embarrass her, himself, and Barack by first shushing her then denying
the whole thing. The bozo had to open his mouth and taste his toes.
Then Barak’s flack got in the act and set about denying it as well. I
can’t wait to hear from Hillary! |

[Social Security Redux] Sound economics demand that
our Social Security system be reformed in order to permit investment to
grow the fund. Investments by a reformed Social Security system would
not be limited to the Stock Market, but would encompass a full range of
sound investment vehicles. Publicly traded giant corporations are an
important part of our economy, but they do not dominate our economy.
Small firms with fewer than 500 employees comprise 99.9 percent of
Americas businesses. Those small businesses supply screws, widgets, and
gimcracks that are sold to the mega corporations for the manufacture of
their end products. It’s a symbiotic, not a “trickle down”
relationship.
Without mega business, small business suffers; when big
business is healthy, small business prospers. With liquidity and
investor money, big business thrives as do the small businesses in their
economic milieu. The Cheeca Lodge is closed, it was Islamorada’s “mega
business”, and Islamorada is hurting bad. Social Security as currently
structured is a Ponzi scheme. It does not make any real investments --
it just takes money from later "investors," or taxpayers to pay benefits
to earlier, now retired, taxpayers. Like Ponzi or Madoff’s scheme,
Social Security will not be able to recruit new "investors" fast enough
to continue paying promised benefits to previous investors.
Each year there are fewer young workers relative to the
number of retirees.
The ratio of
workers to beneficiaries in 1955 was 8 to 1, by 2004 the ratio was 3.3
to 1. It’s worse today and declining.
Social Security as currently structured, must collapse, as do all
pyramid schemes. Remember too, that there is no Social Security “Lock
Box”. The SS dollars have already been spent for non SS purposes. None
of this will likely impact me one iota, I’m concerned for my mid-40s
kids and their kids. We all should be concerned. |

[Honeymoon Lasted Only One Day] Congratulations to president
Obama and the media. The question now is will the media do any negative
reporting of their chosen one or will his free ride continue? The media
finally accomplished and broadcast its mission worldwide--the election
of the 1st black president of the United States.
Starting today phrases like "I won't comment on 'that issue' because
there is only one president at a time" or "if I was president I'd…" are
no longer acceptable. So unplug all the teleprompters and tell America
your plans for illegal immigration, your promise to stop the secret
union ballot, your stance on the middle east and where are the detainees
going when you close Gitmo? Talk to us off the cuff, if you can sir.
Why did you meet with the Mexican president while Bush was still
president in spite of your "only one president” comments? What was
really discussed? Why are you and the media now claiming it'll be years
before the economy can be fixed? Your lofty, inspiring campaign speeches
seem to be shifting, why? How long will it really take for "Hope &
Change" to happen? Why do you and your VP support burning the American
flag?
Most importantly Mr. President, as a middle class resident of main
street, when can we expect the tax cuts, government checks and health
care you admittedly promised all through your inspiring campaign? You
promised to change the way Washington does business. Who would have
believed spending the most money ever on an inauguration was your true
idea of change.
Lastly claims of racism are now mute. Obama is now subject to all the
good and bad presidents before him faced. He no longer gets a free pass
because his supporters cry racism. He is the president and must be held
accountable. |

Explanations] As the British government was poised in November to
re-classify lap-dancing clubs from "entertainment" to "sexual encounter

the clubs are not sexual. "The entertainment may be in the form of nude
performers, but it's not sexually stimulating," said the chairman of the
Lap Dancing Association. That would be contrary to our business plan.

[Cyber
Terror] If we found that there was an organized hacker outfit in Iran

We'd better be prepared for all forms of cyber terrorism. As it is now we
only have a few people tasked with this very real possibility. I guess we'll
wait for it to happen before we take it seriously enough, just like it took
9/11 for us to take violent terror seriously. Be Warned. |
