[Talent] I don’t agree with the poster who said
only Dennis Hopper had talent. Here is why. Art Linkletter was
adopted as a child and became a successful businessman before becoming
an entertainer. He made no secret of his background and always gave his
adoptive parents credit for his success. His TV program was very funny
and I enjoyed watching it. Gary Coleman was a Black child star and he
also entertained me and, I’m sure, many others. If you think Dennis
Hopper was good in Easy Rider you should watch a movie called True
Romance. All three were very talented and the world is a poorer
place without them. Rest In Peace. |

[Mayonnaise]
I added
something new to my hurricane supplies this year. Dawn dish soap and 2
gallons of mayonnaise. I read in the news that mayo is used for an
animal or person who has oil on them. It cleans eyes and can be used if
your dog steps on tar balls and it’s good on baloney sandwiches.
First you wash the dog’s feet with Dawn dish soap, then
apply mayo and rinse. If your dog licks his feet with oil on them he
could get very sick.
I have heard the strangest stories about mayonnaise. One
guy told me that as a small child some older kids dunked his head in a
drum of oil. His mother washed his nose, face, mouth, ears and hair in
mayo. Another woman told me in the 60s it was used to get rid of lice in
hair. She also used it as a hair conditioner to make her hair shiny. |

[Addiction] It's hard to quit
diving. It’s almost as hard as it is to quit smoking. Sure hope that
oil does not help me stop spending so much money on scuba diving
addiction. Travel to exotic places to scuba dive is very exciting but I
am poor now that I am dive addicted. It rents space in my head. Have
started an intervention and am backing off. Scuba diving is only for
multi-millionaires. Free diving is for people who never smoked but it
seems to be taking over diving. I am blessed to have seen the Florida
Keys underwater. It is much nicer thirty feet down then it is on land.
Let's all keep praying for our beautiful reefs. It seems
to be working. |
84,000
folks read the Coconut Telegraph in April. It
was the most visitors we’ve ever had in our eight year history. Pass the
word to your friends who have businesses that might benefit from
advertising that we are very widely read by people interested in the
Florida Keys. We’re here 24/7 unlike any other media. |

To all our fallen heroes and patriots, this Memorial Day we thank
you and honor your service and sacrifice! RIP. |

[Nothing more exciting than being high] I tried it and hated it.
Both smoking and brownies just disconnected everything I wanted to
operate. Sitting on the couch was extremely boring because I couldn't
concentrate on anything going on around me, so I decided to go take a
nap, except even standing up required more concentration than I could
pull together for about 5 minutes. Then each foot required repeated
direct orders to move in any fashion (forget orderly) to get me to any
desirable nap zone. Nope, not fun or exciting, you can definitely have
my share. |

[Getting
naked to expose BP] Diane Wilson, a 61-year old grandmother and 4th
generation shrimper on the Gulf coast, plus Code Pink Founder, can be a
mentor to all of us. Examples of what we can do.
To protest chemical companies
polluting her bay, in 2002 she climbed a chemical tower and chained
herself to it, and then did a 30-day water only hunger strike. In 2003
she traveled to Iraq and tried to stop the invasion, an invasion she
knew was all about oil. She got arrested at a congressional meeting
confronting Donald Rumsfeld. Then she scaled and tied herself to the
White House fence (and almost got shot by a sniper). She even traveled
to Iraq when the U.S. Military was about to attack, putting herself
forward as a human shield. She protested the BP Headquarters in Houston
on May 24th.
When you think, what can
I do? Perhaps her examples are a bit outrageous to you; but the
world has become outrageous. The actions of each and every one of us do
count. United we stand, divided we fall. |

When I was growing up in the 1950s, Memorial Day was all having a day
off and about visiting our grandparents’ grave. I never heard anything
about honoring veterans until years later. |

Russia
now has #1 fighter plane in the world, the SU-30- Vectored Thrust
with Canards. As you watch this airplane, look at the canards moving
along side of, and just below the canopy rail. The "canards" are the
small wings forward of the main wings? The smoke and contrails provide a
sense of the actual flight path, sometimes in reverse direction. This
video is of an in-flight demonstration flown by the Russian's-30MK
fighter aircraft. You will not believe what you are about to see. The
fighter can stall from high speed, stopping forward motion in seconds.
(full stall). Then it demonstrates an ability to descend tail first
without causing a compressor stall. It can also recover from a flat spin
in less than a minute. These maneuver capabilities don't exist in any
other aircraft in the world today. Take a look at the video. This
aircraft is of concern to US and NATO planners. We don't know which
nations will soon be flying the SU-30MK, hopefully China isn't one of
them.
Lawrence Livermore National
Laboratory Note: Friends worked with advanced aircraft flight control
systems and concepts for many years as an extension of stability control
and means of control. Canards and vectored thrust were among the many
concepts examined to extend our fighter aircraft performance. Neither
our current or next generation aircraft now poised for funding and
production can in any way match the performance of this Russian aircraft
that is now flying in any near combat situation. Somehow the
bankrupt Russian aircraft industry has out-produced our complex
politically tainted aerospace industry with this technology marvel.
Scratch any ideas of close-in air-to-air combat with this aircraft of
the future. Video |

[Bureaucracy in Action]
The local government of Bolton, England, responding in March to a
citizen's report of a discarded mattress on the side of a road, sent an
official to assess the scene. He wrote a work order for four men (a
driver, an assistant and two supervisors) and a 1.7-ton construction
vehicle, and the pickup was scheduled for the following week. When a
Bolton councilman saw the schedule, he, with the help of a friend, drove
a council van to the scene and hauled the mattress to a dump site. |

AA Basher sounds like
he's having some very deep problems of his own. "Fake it till you make
it" refers to the idea that if you practice the behavior the attitude
will follow. So, if you practice the behavior that allows you to be
truly happy (maybe just reading the twelve steps, instead of going to a
meeting where you are not comfortable). If you find yourself bashing AA,
either don't go there or find another meeting. You have to answer to
yourself what your true feelings are. Find some faith within yourself
and find a good sponsor. |

Toyota
auto assembly plants have pull-cords hanging everywhere along the
assembly line. If any worker sees something wrong he can pull the cord
and stop production. Toyota figures it’s better to lose some money than
lose customers due to a bad product.
BP should take note of Toyota’s system. |

[Able to handle any catastrophe] Great theory, but how do
you test equipment and procedures like that? The only thing even close
would be NASA's preparations to go to the moon; and they still had to

ingenuity a free reign. |

Message to BP. No matter how
far behind schedule you were, you are way the hell behind now. Was it
worth it? |
|
 |
|
[Sloan] I told some friends when BP’s oil spill
hit the news that there could be no good outcome. BP represents
something much bigger and far more horrible than most Americans are even
able to conceive, much less accept. Even after all that has happened
since BP’s well exploded, even after all that’s been reported about it,
I bet half of America still is willing to cut BP more slack, just as
they are still backing the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, which always
were about oil. Iraq, for its oil and refineries; Afghanistan for the
pipeline that could be built through it to the Asian oil fields below
Russia.
You can’t wage war without oil, lots of oil. You can’t have massive
numbers of disabled veterans without oil, lots of oil. You can’t
have massive numbers of cases of battle shock (post traumatic stress)
without oil, lots of oil.
If BP pays for all of the emotional and physical damage it has done to
Americans and this planet in this oil spill alone, BP will not have any
money left to pay for the letter notifying its stockholders that it went
out of business. No way in hell are American courts and politicians,
Republican or Democrat, going to let BP be gutted like that, because
Exxon or Chevron, or some other Big Oil Brother will go next to the
gas chamber.
Are Americans going to give up their cars and trucks? Are they are going
to go back to riding horses and burning candles at night? Are they going
to put the U.S. Military on oil rationing?
All is not well this Memorial Day. Americans who believe all is well, or
who believe BP has told even 1/10 of the truth in this holocaust, ought
to be banned from ever voting again.
As for our armed forces, no American military non-com or officer should
ever again go to war over oil. An order from the President, the
Commander-in-Chief, to go to war over oil should be respectfully
disobeyed. Such patriots should be held in the highest esteem by all
Americans.
The rest... goodmorningfloridakeys.com |

NATIONAL POLITICS |
Even
Adm. Thad Allen, who's overseeing the government's non-response,
responded to Ken ("boot on their neck") Salazar's remark that BP should
be pushed "out of the way" with: "To replace them with what?" Obama?
Janet Napolitano? Oil rig expert Rahm Emanuel? Salazar? It requires some
degree of managerial competence but these chaps don't do competence --
just symbolism, such as Obama showcasing Janet Napolitano as proof he's
been handling the oil leak manfully.
The ever-shrinking ranks of Obama defenders still
insist that this is not Obama's Katrina. Obama can't even handle an oil
leak, much less show the crisis management smarts to deal with the wrath
and aftermath of the levee-breaching wind and wave mega-monster with the
27-foot storm surge.
Five weeks into this, Obama's just figuring out no
"bi-partisan commission" or speech or press release can plug a hole at
the bottom of the Gulf or clean up the mess. His peculiar fetish for
dialogue isn't a good bet either, since that broken riser pipe may be
open, but not to dialogue. Bring back Bush and Cheney. |
|
[Obama from
Uruguay] Now that they have his birth certificate, proving he was
born in Africa, and he is not an American, will he stay President? |
|

[FTR guy] The pie may be cut into equal pieces, but everyone
doesn't get the same. One percent of the people get ninety percent of
the pie. |
|
[Editor a Commie] You should be ashamed of
yourself. Now I know that you are a pro-Obama socialist and want to see
the US perish as we know it. That statement from John Voight was the
absolute truth. If you were any kind of American, you would have passed
on the message. You chose to ignore it. It is your blog and you do as
you wish, but I did not think that you would be such a traitor. You and
your ilk will be defeated in 2012, but by that time it wouldn't make
that much difference. |
 |
|
[Obama born in Uruguay] After reading yesterday's post that said
President Obama never went to church and prayed at a Mosque, I decided
to look up the rumor on the Internet. Wow, were my eyes opened up.
What horrible, evil rumors are out there. So many lies and so many
stupid and ignorant people to believe them. Honestly, how can people
believe that trash? Why does anyone care about any of those things?
Let our President be our President. Stop believing rumors. To these
ignorant folks I would suggest to channel your interests to the
important matters of the world like our two wars, education, the oil
spill, immigration issues, energy, the economy, unemployment …get my
point?
Who cares about what Obama had for dinner and how many times he attends
church? Who cares? Small minds think about small things. Let's focus
on the important issues of our time. President Obama has more huge
problems to work on than almost any other president we have ever had.
He is one man. He needs our help and not our foolishness. |
|

[Foreign Press] Ever wonder why we have to depend on the foreign
press to find out what's "really" going on in our own country. It's a
good thing that Obama and the democrats don't own the Canadian press. |
|
Wrong again, wombat breath. The FTR guy doesn't
know it all, but he damn sure knows more than you. |
|
[Crowd
Control] It seems as though people bless war and hate abortion, but
which is worse? The Military Industrial Complex of course, which
controls all. People have offspring incapable of self-sustaining
themselves without support from everyone else, but the government will
pay out millions to keep such person alive if taken ill, then they’ll
send the cured, looser to kill or be killed for Flag and Country while
those leaders warm their leather seats watching the chess game. War is
hell of course and so is over population and the two are one of supply
and condemn. No one has the testicle fortitude to petition for the
culling of the massive ineptness ruining this planet. Politics and
politicians work to cover the tracks of the New World Order, bankers and
three major religions that are fighting for world dominance. This world
is breaking up and Big Bro, or rather, Big Priest will be bending you
over for God and Country sooner than you think. |
|
[From
the Right] If anything good came out of Viet Nam and the national
shame of how shabbily our ‘Nam Vets were treated, that good is a ground
swell of respect that we now have for our Vets. Every single American,
every single day, should give some thought about the fact that we are
what we are because of the bravery and willingness to serve of so many
millions of Americans dead and alive. It was and is fact that their
service welded our disparate states into a solid union that has become a
bastion of freedom and justice. Members of our military have been in
harm’s way somewhere in the world nearly every day since our Civil War.
The real meaning of Memorial Day will be lost on most of us. Most of us
will simply view it as a chance to chill, to enjoy ourselves. Let me
respectfully suggest that at sometime during the day, you take just a
moment and actually thank a Vet who has served or a service person who
is now serving. Please thank them for what they do and what they’ve
done. It is virtually certain that you have a family member or a friend
who is or was in the service of our nation. It’s may be that your friend
or loved one was not in combat; nonetheless they were at constant risk
of being in harms way. Their efforts permit us to be us. They are proud
of their contribution; please tell them that you're proud too. It might
be just a little embarrassing for you, but it is the right thing to do
and the Vet will appreciate it more than you will ever know. You will be
the better for it. |

I
just returned from young Frank Randleman’s Memorial Service. It was
held at the Vineyards Fellowship. Pastor Steve didn't know this young man, I
didn't either. His mom and grandmother are both long time friends of mine
and I felt I should be there. I am very glad I was. Pastor Steve asked one
thing that hit home for me and, I hope, for all the young friends that came
to say good-by. Can we learn any thing from this? I sure hope so. Armed home
invasion and young folks being shot and killed just don’t happen on Big Pine
Key.

Lovemaking Tips for Seniors
1. Wear your glasses to make sure your partner is actually in the bed.
2. Set timer for 3 minutes, in case you doze off in the middle.
3. Set the mood with lighting. Turn them all off!
4. Make sure you put 911 on your speed dial before you begin.
5. Write partner's name on your hand in case you can't remember.
6. Use extra Polygrip so your dentures don't end up under the bed.
7. Have Tylenol ready in case you actually complete the act.
8. Make all the noise you want--the neighbors are deaf, too.
9. If it works, call everyone you know with the good news!

[IKC Summer Camp] I just heard about the new summer
camp on Big Pine. I'll be signing up my two boys, ages 13 and 11 for the
first session of the IKC summer camp for kids. What a great way to get the
kids away from the TV, the computer, off the couch and the junk food. An
eclectic array of courses will be offered such as camping, survival skills,
tracking and recon and how to use a compass.
Xbox is okay, but it can't compare to the thrill of your
child's first iguana kill. Look for the discount coupons available at
selected locations on BPK. There will be two sessions, each running two
weeks with a festive awards ceremony and cook-out featuring all the iguana
you can eat. Fried, sautéed, boiled, roasted and grilled. My boys can't
wait. A tip of the hat to the IKC board of directors and its many members. |

The WWII/Korean War Version of Before You Go - Before You Go
|

A
cool drizzle in the late afternoon of April 3, 1980 didn’t dampen any of the
enthusiasm of Willie McDonald and about a dozen of his friends when they
decided to shoot craps in the gritty neighborhood park of a small north
Broward city. I don’t know if today’s police still consider a public craps
game to be a threat to public safety, but in 1980 we did. Gambling was
illegal. Fights, stabbings, and shootings were to be expected when the
emotions of the illegal gambling boiled over. Knives and guns were as
common as socks. Armed robberies were routine, most never reported to the
police. The raucous activity often prompted civilian complaints.
On this day, 19
year old Willie James McDonald, proud of his nick name, “June Bug,” and his
friends were just hanging around in the park. Someone broke out the dice
and the game began. It quickly got loud and a complaint was made to the
police department. Complaints about the illegal activity had been
mounting. Police managers decided they would attempt to make an arrest of
as many players as possible, as a deterrent to further activity. In 1980 the
offense was a misdemeanor.
The police plan
was to watch the game from a distance and out of sight of the players, who
routinely posted lookouts. Usually as the game progressed the lookouts got
sloppy and became engaged in the festivities. The plan was to have three
patrol units quickly converge from different directions and several officers
would rush the party and arrest as many gamblers as they could. For reasons
that will forever be unknown to me, a raid on a game was akin to jumping a
flock of quail, with the players explosively jumping and running full speed
away in all directions. The offense was a simple misdemeanor; but resisting
arrest could lead to felony charges. Often the gamblers would abandon the
pot of money. For some old line cracker cops, busting crap games was
great sport and became an alternate source of income. By 1980 the usual
unwritten protocol for the gamblers was to just ignore the “pot” and leave
it on scene.
The lookouts got
lazy, distracted, and the patrol units swooped in. The spectators and
gamers exploded, a panicked herd of about 20 bolting away, tripping over one
another with several cops in chase, like lions jumping a herd of antelope.
June Bug slipped on the damp grass and had almost gotten back to his feet
when he was grabbed by an officer. June Bug, boiling with testosterone,
adrenaline, fear, and his hatred of cops, resisted. He tried to pull away;
he flailed about, and nearly broke away from the officer. Then he fell
backward onto the grass and again began to flail about in an attempt to push
the officer away. The officer, boiling with testosterone, adrenaline, anger
at being resisted, and committed to making the arrest, pulled his service
revolver. What happened next will always be the subject of dispute, but
there is no dispute that Willie James “June Bug” Williams was dead as a
result of a single gunshot wound to his head. The officer was white and
June Bug was black.
In April 1980
south Florida racial tensions were high. The Dade County officers who had
been charged with beating to death black motorcyclist Arthur McDuffie in
December of 1979 were on trial in Tampa. Tension, anger, and hatred were
palpable in the Black communities of south Florida. The community distrust
or outright hatred for all cops, especially white cops, poisoned both
camps. Within a half hour of the shooting, the news had spread through the
Black communities of north Broward. Many angry residents took to the
streets. Cars occupied by white people driving near the Black neighborhoods
of this small city were being attacked. There were injuries.

Lots of people are blaming the oil leak on Bush or
Obama. The truth is Presidents don't have any control over what we do. |
|
[BP
Fails again to stop leak] Why can't we demand that BP try every existing
known solution available to stop this from coming here? The microbes, hay,
skimming, Kevin Costner's invention; anything non-chemical. Spend the money
now. Do everything now. Louisiana begged to build berms weeks ago--before a
hurricane. Screw the rules. All bets are off. They may never be able to cap
it. Enough. We need to take control of our destiny. Or we will be treated
just like Louisiana. Let them try and really solve this nightmare with any
and all technology available starting today. |
|
[Redneck Oil Eaters] It is amazing how we humans want
everything done the easy way. Take the new process for cleaning up the oil.
Some sort of microbes. There are better useless food eaters like rednecks,
illegals and welfare grabbers that could clean up the Gulf in only a few
days. However, we will not have to pay unemployment benefits to the
Microbes. |
|

[Nuke the Leak] You all laughed and thought I was nuts when I
recommended that we use a nuclear weapon to move the earth and seal the leak
a month ago. If they had nuked the leak a month ago this disaster would be
over. As a side benefit to nuking the leak we’d have a whole lot of already
“cooked” fish to sell. |
|
Before anybody ever drilled the first well in the Gulf or any
other body of water they should have been responsible enough to make it a
point to be able to handle any catastrophe. Unfortunately
greed fuels big business so, as usual, they are trying to close the barn
doors after the horses have escaped. |
|
[Sloan] David Harris’ letter to the editor in today’s
Citizen is especially disturbing. Harris leads off by saying he has a
background in marine life and maintaining water quality in public aquariums.
He then says:
“BP is not injecting the dispersant chemicals into the well at 5,000 feet to
get rid of the oil, it is making sure that the oil does not float on the
surface, where it would face a fine of $15,000 per barrel that is skimmed .
. . The dispersant chemicals, a light kerosene, ethanol, and some form of
acid, along with other proprietary chemicals, are all toxic by themselves.
This cocktail, called Corexit, is meant to be used on the surface. Wave
action and the warmer surface waters would allow the oil to be attacked by
bacteria. This is how it was meant to be used . . . By injecting the
dispersant at 5,000 feet below the surface, the lack of high oxygen content
and the cold, 5 degree Celsius water inhibits the growth of bacteria. The
chemicals bond with the oil and form globules. These do not float. They
cannot be skimmed and BP does not get fined for the oil on the surface. It
is in their best interest to keep the oil off the surface. Money is the name
of the game — as always. Our government has some pretty smart scientists. I
don’t understand why they haven’t stopped BP from injecting the dispersant
chemicals. This is such a travesty.”

[From the Right]
Hillary recently speechified that: “The rich are not paying their fair
share.” I wonder what that means. As I recall, a pie is cut up into 8 or
so equal pieces, everybody gets the same size slice. That’s fair. Right now
the top 50% of wage earners pay 96.03% of income Taxes. What’s fair about
that? And, no my Deer friends, I’m not one of the top 50%. So, if the rich
bastards are not paying their “fair share”, does it mean that the “rich” use
up way, way, more of public resources than we middle class or poor folks do?
Do they use up way, way, more public paid medical care than middle class or
poor folks do? Are the rich folks filling up our prisons? How about welfare,
are the rich folks using up our welfare dollars? Maybe it costs a lot more
to move rich men’s poop through a sewer system than a poor man’s. I suppose
that rich folks are emptying the coffers of the food stamp programs. It must
cost the community a hell of a lot more to have a Beemer drive on the road
than a ’94 F150. I’m really at a loss to figure out why the rich people are
more expensive to the public coffers than us poor and middle class folks
are. I wonder why gas costs the same per gallon for me as it does some rich
bastard. What about movie tickets, they are too freaking expensive, why
shouldn’t a rich bastard have to pay more than I do so that my ticket will
be cheaper? If I pay a couple of bucks for a beer at Robs, why shouldn’t a
rich bastard pay way more? Why doesn’t a rich bastard have to pay more for
macaroni and cheese at Winn Dixie than I do? I wonder what the rich
bastards “fair share” is. Who gets to decide what the rich folks “fair
share” is? Me? You? If Hillary is being honorable, she will tell the world
why she and her husband avoid paying their "fair share" of taxes by
sheltering millions of their dollars from taxation by placing their millions
in the various Clinton foundations! Can it be that she, herself, is avoiding
paying her own personal “fair share”? Sure it is. How long will it be
before they (I mean some government dudes) decide that the folks who make
$60K are the new rich bastards? What say you, our liberal/progressive pals.
(Part II) Here’s
something brand new. It’s a new website that is a forum for folks on all
sides of the aisle. The site invites you to submit your ideas to improve the
American condition. The idea is something like right here; the difference is
that the Congress is the audience. It’s a red hot chance for our
liberal/progressive pals to really give the Congress the benefit of your
wisdom. It’s your chance to tell even more folks about how foolish the
Conservative mind set is. I know that I am going to join in the fun. Who
knows, it might even make a tiny difference.

I went out to Wisteria Island
yestterday with Todd German and walked a lot of the island, interior and
exterior. There are a lot more boats moored on the west side than on the
Key West side of Wisteria. There were day charters out there too, in the
midst of the liveaboard boats, full of tourists snorkeling and swimming
and frolicking in the allegedly shit-filled water. Evidence from both
sides in the recent public meetings has been that only two boats out
there are having their boats pumped out. Two such boaters were
at both meetings day before yesterday.
Someone suggested yesterday that the liveaboards out there start coming
in and pumping out their sewerage regularly at city docks, or hire a
company with collection boats to come to their boats and pump them out
regularly. The reasoning, if this happens it takes away the developers’
main argument for the Wisteria development. I don’t imagine too many
liveaboards will start doing that, though. I imagine most of them will
simply move somewhere else they can moore free and live as the have
being living.
Meaning, getting all of those liveaboard boats out of the Wisteria
vicinity won’t really change anything, which Last Stand sees as a major
flaw in the developer’s argument that it will be able to solve the
problem by opening and operating a mooring field and marina at Wisteria.
The developer uses that as bait to get the 75 building permits. Neither
Roger Bernstein or any of his people have admitted most of the boats at
Wisteria will leave and keep on doing what they are doing around
Wisteria.
There is about as much debris along the waterfront and in the interior
as I had expected to see. It never should have been put there, there’s
way too much of it, but it’s hardly the dump the developers have
portrayed in the meetings. The island itself is teeming with animal
and plant life, and while there are lots of invasive plants,
particularly Australian pines and Brazilian Peppers, and lower height
plants, there also is a lot of native plant life there.
It looked to me that all plants out there were put there by Mother
Nature. It may be a spoil island, because it is man-made. It may be a
disturbed island, because it is man-made. But it was Mother Nature who
populated it with animal and plant life forms.
I told Todd the dead Australian pines lend charm and will fall down and
rot into the dirt. I said the island interior reminds me of places I
once hunted and fished in Alabama, inland. I said I thought the place is
nice and could be a lot nicer if it is cultivated well. Not in the
farming sense, but in the horticultural sense, I meant cultivating.
I said if I owned the island and had the Bernsteins’ money, I would
clean it up and turn it into a nature park for campers and day visitors.
I would hire day laborers to go out their with garbage bags and garbage
cans and put them to work picking up all the human debris.
All of the debris, including a few car batteries, cans, plastic jugs,
and all sorts of other trash or stuff that really isn’t trash, could be
carried by hand, or by wheelbarrow, to a waiting barge. The boats on the
beaches or just in the water probably would need a barge with a crane to
hoist them. Same for a few boats out there that are completely under
water. I see no way to avoid some spillage of what might be in the holds
of the boats or in the engines. Even if a professional company did it,
there would be some spillage. Haul all of it to Waste Management or the
County dumps. Or even to the mainland, if necessary.
After we pulled away from Wisteria in Todd’s skiff, we did a 360 loop
around Sunset Key. I was raised wealth. I was raised in posh. I was
raised in old money and in pretentious. I didn’t see one plant on Sunset
Key that wasn’t brought in from somewhere else. I told Todd, as we
were idling away from Sunset Key, that whoever the architect was that
designed all of those houses out there should have been keel-hauled. The
whole place looks artificial, like cosmetic plastic surgery.
Someone said at Heather’s meeting last night that the artificial beach
on Sunset keeps washing away, the sand clouds the water and covers the
bottom far to the other side of Wisteria, and they keep brining
in more sand to replenish the beach. The current is strong near the
beach, this could well be happening. Roger Bernstein didn’t deny it,
when this was said at a meeting. He has been quick to jump in when he
heard something he felt he might be able to persuade to his point of
view.
A Florida Fish & Wildlife Lieutenant was brought to Heather’s meeting
last night by Bernstein, to tell us all how nasty the island and nearby
water is. He said sometimes he boarded vessels to check to see if they
had contained sewerage systems. When I asked him how many cititations F
& W had issued around Wisteria Island, he blanched, said he would not
speak for the entire department. So I asked him how many citations he
had issued. He said maybe 50 or 75.
I later wished I had asked him now many check backs he had done, how
many follow up citations he had issued, and how many voilators he
had put in jail and towed their boats in for appropriation by the state.
He was not expecting to be challenged about why come he wasn’t doing
what he was supposed to be doing out there: keeping the water free
of boats polluting the bay, and getting rid of derelict vessels.
Until the lieutenant spoke last night, Roger Bernstein and his
people and county staff had been adamant in the meetings that F & W and
the Coast Guard had no jurisdiction at Wisteria; it is state-owned bay
bottom and only the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP)
currently has jurisdiction out there. Alas, DEP has no enforcement
people in the Keys, so there currently is nothing that can be done at
Wisteria about illegal liveaboards. All the more reason to give the
Bernsteins and Walshes permission to have their marina and mooring
field, so they will regulate the bay bottom in their property boundary,
is what has been sung at the meetings.
The F & W Lieutenant shot that claim full of holes, when he told of his
experiences out there and of the Coast Guard boarding boats, too. A
liveaboard couple out there told me after the city meeting that F & W
had boarded their boat and inspected it, and F & W and the Coast Guard
had boarded other boats out there.
The more I see Roger Bernstein and his people in these sort of
deceptions, the more I wonder that else he’s not telling the truth
about, even as his mantra has become, ”We are doing eveything we can to
be transparent.” You don’t want to know how many times I have heard him
say that. Too many times not to think it’s smokescreen.
I told Todd on the boat today that, if the City of Key West does come on
board with this deal, they should charge Wisteria Island/the Bernsteins/Walshes/future
owners three times whatever Sunset Key is paying for city-provided
support services, in perpetuity. Hell, if the City is going to let the
Bernsteins and Walshes turn Wisteria into another Sunset Key, then at
least this time the City ought to make a bundle off it in the old
capitalistic spirit. For sure, the Bernsteins and Walshes are aiming to
make a bundle off of Wisteria if they get to develop it.
Todd had gotten permission from Roger Bernstein some time ago, to go out
to Wisteria. Todd suggested his and my trip. I needed to go out there,
not having ever been there before. Even so, I can’t help but wonder if
Todd was trying to smozzle Bernstein at Heather Carruthers recent Town
Hall meeting in Key West, when Todd told the audience, with Bernstein
nearby, that he thought Sunset Key was a lot prettier than Wisteria
Island. I can't help but wonder if Bernstein is a client of Todd’s bank
– Centennial Bank. I can't help but wonder if Todd is the bank’s contact
person with Bernstein. I can't believe it didn't occur to me before now
to ask Todd about any of that. In any event, I know Todd would like
for the Bernsteins to bank at Centennial, if they are not already
banking there.

Metal Fence on Ramrod - This is just a guess.... I think the fence
is there due to the steep drop off into the water / mangroves and
the close proximity of the bike path to the edge. Yes, it is ugly,
but I think the County is just trying to prevent a lawsuit from
someone ( possibly patrons of the 2 local watering holes nearby)
getting hurt or drowning after a night of partying and then trying
to ride their bike home. I remember FWC trying to remove an
alligator from that area a couple of years ago. Just a thought so
don't beat me up over this, OK?

| It is so nice to see others, like myself who care about over-fishing
and it is amazing there has not been more chatter about these idiotic
morons who kill for the thrill of it. Yes, The Keys are good fishing but
poachers 305-289-2320 need to be reported and the good people follow the
rules and take what they need. The esteemed people I have known down
here seem to be the worst and they take way more lobster than allowed
and then brag about it. There are a couple businesses that will not get
another fifteen cents from me because they were taking grouper during
the ban. Isn't there such a thing as compassionate fishermen? It's bad
enough they can't read or brush their teeth. They lack a heart and like
someone said, they don't deserve a fish. Why would someone want to kill
a shark, barracuda or baby marlin? Because they are retarded. The TDC
would never allow an ethical angling campaign, they do not care about
poachers or drunk drivers. Who the funk elected them in charge of
paradise? Screw them and screw the stupid over-fishermen and the equally
stupid iguana killers. |

Badass vs Badass

Tonight, Saturday at 10pm at Rob's
Island Grill |
Governor Charlie Crist today announced two
free fishing weekends to help draw visitors
to the beautiful beaches of the Sunshine
State. Both residents and nonresidents in
Florida can fish for saltwater species
around the state without a license during
the upcoming Memorial Day weekend, May 29 to
May 31, and the weekend of June 5 and 6,
which is the first weekend after the popular
red snapper season opens in the Gulf on June
1, 2010. All other fishing rules apply.
“Florida is the fishing capital of the
world,” said Governor Crist, “Our beaches
are clear, the fish are biting, and we
invite our friends to enjoy some Florida
hospitality.”
Chairman Rodney Baretto of the Florida Fish
and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC)
applauded the Governor’s decision.
“Governor Crist’s actions to offer free
fishing this weekend will do wonders for our
business communities that have been
suffering cancellations since the oil spill
started,” Barreto said. “We are not
experiencing any oil impacts, and the fact
remains that Florida is open for business.”
The FWC will continue to monitor all of the
potential impacts of the oil spill on
Florida’s fish and wildlife and continue to
be involved with many aspects of the oil
spill response, Barreto added. In addition,
the FWC has consulted with key
representatives from several fishing
organizations in Florida who are very
concerned about inaccurate public
perceptions regarding the condition of
Florida’s fisheries and the state’s marine
environment. There has been strong
agreement from these stakeholders that the
fishing business in Florida is “as usual”
and that fishing remains a safe and viable
recreational and commercial activity.

The 29 Healthiest
Foods on the Planet
The following is a "Healthy Food hot list"
consisting of the 29 food that will give you the biggest nutritional
bang for you caloric buck, as well as decrease your risk for deadly
illnesses like cancer, diabetes and heart disease. Along with each
description is a suggestion as to how to incorporate these
power-foods into your diet.
Fruits
01. Apricots
The Power: Beta-carotene, which helps prevent free-radical damage
and protect the eyes. The body also turns beta-carotene into vitamin
A, which may help ward off some cancers, especially of the skin. One
apricot has 17 calories, 0 fat, 1 gram of fiber. Snacks on them
dried, or if you prefer fresh, buy when still firm; once they
soften, they lose nutrients.
02. Avocados
The Power: Oleic acid, an unsaturated fat that helps lower overall
cholesterol and raise levels of HDL, plus a good dose of fiber. One
slice has 81 calories, 8 grams of fat and 3 grams of fiber. Try a
few slices instead of mayonnaise to dress up your next burger.
03. Raspberries
The Power: Ellagic acid, which helps stall cancer-cell growth.
These berries are also packed with vitamin C and are high in fiber,
which helps prevent high cholesterol and heart disease. A cup has
only 60 calories, 1 gram of fat and 8 grams of fiber. Top plain
low-fat yogurt or oatmeal (another high fiber food) with fresh
berries.
05. Cantaloupe
The Power: Vitamin C (117mg in half a melon, almost twice the
recommended daily dose) and beta-carotene - both powerful
antioxidants that help protect cells from free-radical damage. Plus,
half a melon has 853mg of potassium - almost twice as much as a
banana, which helps lower blood pressure. Half a melon has 97
calories, 1 gram of fat and 2 grams of fiber. Cut into cubes and
freeze, then blend into an icy Smoothe.
06. Cranberry Juice
The Power: Helps fight bladder infections by preventing harmful
bacteria from growing. A cup has 144 calories, 0 grams of fat and 0
fiber. Buy 100 percent juice concentrate and use it to spice up your
daily H20 without adding sugar.
07. Tomato
The Power: Lycopene, one of the strongest carotenoids, acts as an
antioxidant. Research shows that tomatoes may cut the risk of
bladder, stomach and colon cancers in half if eaten daily. A tomato
has 26 calories, 0 fat and 1 gram of fiber. Drizzle fresh slices
with olive oil, because lycopene is best absorbed when eaten with a
little fat.
08. Raisins
The Power: These little gems are a great source of iron, which
helps the blood transport oxygen and which many women are short on.
A half-cup has 218 calories, 0 fat and 3 grams of fiber. Sprinkle
raisins on your morning oatmeal or bran cereal - women, consider
this especially during your period.
09. Figs
The Power: A good source of potassium and fiber, figs also contain
vitamin B6, which is responsible for producing mood-boosting
serotonin, lowering cholesterol and preventing water retention. The
Pill depletes B6, so if you use this method of birth control, make
sure to get extra B6 in your diet. One fig has 37 to 48 calories, 0
fat and 2 grams of fiber. (Cookie lovers - fig bars have around 56
calories, 1 gram of fat and 1 gram of fiber per cookie). Fresh figs
are delicious simmered alongside a pork tenderloin and the dried
variety make a great portable gym snack.
10. Lemons and Limes
The Power: Limonene, furocoumarins and vitamin C, all of which help
prevent cancer. A wedge has 2 calories, 0 fat and 0 fiber. Buy a few
of each and squeeze over salads, fish, beans and vegetables for fat
free flavor. See also: Beneficial Bytes: Lemons and Limes.
Vegetables
11. Onions
The Power: Quercetin is one of the most powerful flavonoids
(natural plant antioxidants). Studies show it helps protect against
cancer. A cup (chopped) has 61 calories, 0 fat and 3 grams of fiber.
Chop onions for the maximum phytonutrient boost, or if you hate to
cry, roast them with a little olive oil and serve with rice or other
vegetables.
12. Artichokes
The Power: These odd-looking vegetables contain silymarin, an
antioxidant that helps prevent skin cancer, plus fiber to help
control cholesterol. One medium artichoke has 60 calories, 0 fat and
7 grams of fiber. Steam over boiling water for 30 to 40 minutes.
Squeeze lemon juice on top, then pluck the leaves off with your
fingers and use your teeth to scrape off the rich-tasting skin. When
you get to the heart, you have found the best part!
13. Ginger
The Power: Gingerols may help reduce queasiness; other compounds
may help ward off migraines and arthritis pain by blocking
inflammation-causing prostaglandins. A teaspoon of fresh gingerroot
has only 1 calorie, 0 fat and 0 fiber. Peel the tough brown skin and
slice or grate into a stir-fry.
14. Broccoli
The Power: Indole-3-carbinol and sulforaphane, which help protect
against breast cancer. Broccoli also has lots of vitamin C and
beta-carotene. One cup (chopped) has 25 calories, 0 fat and 3 grams
of fiber. Don't overcook broccoli - instead, microwave or steam
lightly to preserve phytonutrients. Squeeze fresh lemon on top for a
zesty and taste, added nutrients and some vitamin C.
15. Spinach
The Power: Lutein and zeaxanthin, carotenoids that help fend off
macular degeneration, a major cause of blindness in older people.
Plus, studies show this green fountain of youth may help reverse
some signs of aging. One cup has 7 calories, 0 fat and 1 gram of
fiber. Add raw leaves to a salad or saute with a little olive oil
and garlic.
16. Bok Choy (Chinese cabbage)
The Power: Brassinin, which some research suggests may help prevent
breast tumors, plus indoles and isothiocyanates, which lower levels
of estrogen, make this vegetable a double-barreled weapon against
breast cancer. A cup will also give you 158mg of calcium (16 percent
of your daily recommended requirement) to help beat osteoporosis. A
cup (cooked) has 20 calories, 0 fat and 3 grams of fiber. Find it in
your grocer's produce section or an Asian market. Slice the greens
and juicy white stalks, then saute like spinach or toss into a
stir-fry just before serving.
17. Squash (Butternut, Pumpkin, Acorn)
The Power: Winter squash has huge amounts of vitamin C and
beta-carotene, which may help protect against endometrial cancer.
One cup (cooked) has 80 calories, 1 gram of fat and 6 grams of
fiber. Cut on in half, scoop out the seeds and bake or microwave
until soft, then dust with cinnamon.
18. Watercress and Arugula
The Power: Phenethyl isothiocyanate, which, along with
beta-carotene and vitamins C and E, may help keep cancer cells at
bay. One cup has around 4 calories, 0 fat and 1 gram of fiber. Do
not cook these leafy greens; instead, use them to garnish a sandwich
or add a pungent, peppery taste to salad.
19. Garlic
The Power: The sulfur compounds that give garlic its pungent flavor
can also lower LDL ("bad") cholesterol, lower blood pressure and
even reduce your risk of stomach and colon cancer. A clove has 4
calories, 0 fat and 0 fiber. Bake a whole head for 15 to 20 minutes,
until soft and sweet and spread on bread instead of butter.
Grains, Beans, Dairy and Nuts
20. Quinoa
The Power: A half cup of cooked quinoa has 5 grams of protein, more
than any other grain, plus iron, riboflavin and magnesium. A
half-cup has 318 calories, 5 grams of fat and 5 grams of fiber. Add
to soup for a protein boost. Rinse first, or it will taste bitter.
21. Wheat Germ
The Power: A tablespoon gives you about 7 percent of your daily
magnesium, which helps prevent muscle cramps; it is also a good
source of vitamin E. One tablespoon has 27 calories, 1 gram of fat
and 1 gram of fiber. Sprinkle some over yogurt, fruit or cereal.
22. Lentils
The Power: Isoflavones, which may inhibit estrogen-promoted breast
cancers, plus fiber for heart health and an impressive 9 grams of
protein per half cup. A half-cup (cooked) has 115 calories, 0 fat
and 8 grams of fiber. Isoflavones hold up through processing, so buy
lentils canned, dried or already in soup. Take them to work, and you
will have a protein packed lunch.
23. Peanuts
The Power: Studies show that peanuts or other nuts (which contain
mostly unsaturated "good" fat) can lower your heart-disease risk by
over 20 percent. One ounce has 166 calories, 14 grams of fat and 2
grams of fiber. Keep a packet in your briefcase, gym bag or purse
for a protein-packed post-workout nosh or an afternoon pick me up
that will satisfy you until supper, or chop a few into a stir-fry
for a Thai accent. See also: The Nut Case
24. Pinto Beans
The Power: A half cup has more than 25 percent of your daily
requirement of folate, which helps protect against heart disease and
reduces the risk of birth defects. A half-cup (canned) has 103
calories, 1 gram of fat and 6 grams of fiber. Drain a can, rinse and
toss into a pot of vegetarian chili.
25. Yogurt
The Power: Bacteria in active-culture yogurt helps prevent yeast
infections; calcium strengthens bones. A cup has 155 calories, 4
grams of fat, 0 grams of fiber. Get the plain kind and mix in your
own fruit to keep calories and sugar down. If you are lactose
intolerant, never fear -- yogurt should not bother your tummy.
26. Skim Milk
The Power: Riboflavin (a.k.a. vitamin B2) is important for good
vision and along with vitamin A might help improve eczema and
allergies. Plus, you get calcium and vitamin D, too. One cup has 86
calories, 0 fat and 0 fiber. If you are used to high fat milk, don't
go cold turkey; instead, mix the two together at first. Trust this
fact: In a week or two you won't miss it!
Seafood
27. Shellfish (Clams, Mussels)
The Power: Vitamin B12 to support nerve and brain function, plus
iron and hard-to-get minerals like magnesium and potassium. Three
ounces has 126 to 146 calories, 2 to 4 grams of fat and 0 fiber. Try
a bowl of tomato-based (and low fat) Manhattan clam chowder.
28. Salmon
The Power: Cold-water fish like salmon, mackerel and tuna are the
best sources of omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce the risk of
cardiac disease. A 3-ounce portion (cooked) has 127 calories, 4
grams of fat, 0 fiber. Brush fillets with ginger-soy marinade and
grill or broil until fish flakes easily with a fork.
29. Crab
The Power: A great source of vitamin B12 and immunity-boosting
zinc. A 3-ounce portion has 84 calories, 1 gram of fat, 0 fiber. The
"crab" in sushi is usually made from fish; buy it canned instead and
make your own crab cakes. See also: Fish and Seafood Recipes

Once again,
the AA basher is confused about
purpose. “Fake it
‘til you make it” is not about lying to
yourself or anyone else: it’s about changing your state of mind first,
before anything else can change. It’s pretty much the underpinning of
legitimate psychology’s number one
drug-free method to combat mental health and addiction. It’s called
Cognitive Behavior Therapy. Are you
an expert on that too? |
|
AA BASHER. Did I just read that our basher has
admitted hearing something "hundreds of times" in AA meeting rooms?
Did it really take him hundreds of experiences to make up his mind
about AA? That sounds kind of stupid to me. I can usually figure out
whether or not I like something after a couple of exposures. This
guy gets stranger and stranger.

OIL SPILL |
|
(oil spill) people you are not looking at the big problem. i,m from
texas and worked at 3 oil co's. in the 1980,s. deep drilling rigs are
not rigs at all . they are big Ships floating in the water with a mile
of drill pipe HANGING below(no telling how much that weighs) held in
place by GPS and thrusters. they are at the mercy of tech glitches, mech
glitches ,solar flares, currents, storms, waves, other ships, and
hurricanes. they have no frame under water keeping them stable. they
dont tell you but but these RIGS have a higher failure rate because the
pipe can just snap off as they have many Times before(the oil co's dont
mention how many deep rigs have snapped off before) but they always had
and installed a Blowout tree consisting of 4 or more cut off valves . we
need to ban all deep Rigs(Ships) |

The Oil Pollution Act of 1990 (101 H.R.1465, P.L. 101-380
The
bill was introduced to the House by Walter B Jones
(Democrat-North Carolina) along with 79 cosponsors. It enjoyed
widespread support, passing the House 375-5 and the Senate by
voice vote before
conference, and unanimously in both chambers after
conference.
Apparently both sides of the aisle had a hand in the $75 billion
liability cap. A little actual research is more time consuming than
finger pointing and name calling, but ends in facts, not opinions.

The fisherman’s wife explained
to me that after BP’s attempt to get the fishermen to sign
“Indemnity and Hold Harmless Waivers” was “thrown out by a Federal
judge”, her family’s boat along with those of many others was
contracted by the $92 million dollar-a-day earning BP to go deploy
oil booms at wages that equal “good money in the off season”
to the fishermen.
Unfortunately, May/June in the
Gulf of Mexico is not the “off season”.
BP’s DHR
Vessels of Opportunity website states “crews on vessels
scheduled for day-work will receive eight hours of pay and crews on
vessels scheduled to perform nighttime operations will be paid for
12 hours of work. If vessels are scheduled and are not used, the day
rate will still be paid.” The website doesn’t give exact figures,
but says the daily rates are based on the vessel’s length.
“This is a
disaster that is going to do what no hurricane has ever done. The
oil spill damage we face is one thing, the lack of interest and
nonsupport is another. If I've learned nothing else in the years
I've lived here it's that the people of our community are resilient,
determined, hardworking, heartfelt people.”—The
fisherman’s wife
The shrimpers, crabbers and
fishermen of the Parrish all answered the call, as have many others
along the Gulf Coast. Only a few of the many were hired.
Four weeks ago, the men
gathered the required personal protective gear, fueled and
provisioned their boats—with money out of their own pockets—before
gathering in a circle on the docks to say a prayer.
They then set off to do battle
in the rough oily waters of the Gulf of Mexico in a Hail Mary
attempt at saving their fishing grounds, their livelihoods and their
neighborhoods.
Those who stayed behind to
“hold down the fort” were given BP’s Claims Hotline phone number,
BP’s online claims website, and individual claims account numbers to
prove they’ve filed.
“It’s like
going to the IRS. They don’t make nothing easy. The want proof of
everything. How big is your boat? How long have you been fishing?
What do you fish for? How much have you earned in the past? What
did you expect to earn this year? They make you feel as if you’ve
done something wrong for making a claim.”—The
fisherman’s wife
Instead of seeing checks, the
people of Louisiana have seen organized chaos. One quote from the
fisherman’s wife’s Facebook page says that one Captain is “catching
hell” in the confusion of working with BP off Grand Isle.
“That will not change! We have
a saying called "Cajun ingenuity" and it's time we show it. We need
to take charge, complaining is not getting results, we need to step
up and do this.”
“We need to
show up in our shrimp boots and gloves and start placing boom, we
need to walk into our officials offices and TELL, not ask them what
we want, we need to demand in person what BP needs to do here, and
out there for our fishermen. My heart goes out to each of you and I
know we are all praying.”--The
fisherman’s wife
The fishermen that live, and
work in the Gulf know those waters better than any corporate “suit”
yet they’re being restricted on where they can work, what they can
do, and how they can do it--and they’ve been silenced from sharing
their experiences--being told “not to be within a mile of the
media”.
Many in the Parrish have not
seen their loved ones since they left. Ship to shore communications
with family members have been sparse sparing the occasional cell
phone call “when they can get service on the boats”, VHF radio
messages relayed via neighbors and for some, satellite phones that
are costly to operate.
There’s no way to bring the
boats back to port because the hulls are contaminated with oil. BP
promised “car wash type deal” that was to be used to decontaminate
the vessels at sea, but that has not materialized either, and
there’s no telling of what the long term effects of the oil will do
to the boat hulls.
“For now we’ve been depending
on each other and Kim and David at Mariah Jade Shrimp Company,
they’ve made things happen. Kim’s been organizing what BP doesn’t
seem to be able to do and David has been helping get groceries, fuel
and transportation for the guys that need to come to shore. Her
boats and her sons are out there working the oil too. They’ve
organized, delivered and continue everyday to get things done.”
We are
voicing our concerns that seem to be in vain. Some of us our
concerned about what the oil spill will to to our fishing economy,
others our communities,or ecosystem and wildlife. Regardless of
whatever our fears and anger is for,we will all be affected.—The
fisherman’s wife
“We will all be affected.”
Truer words have never been spoken and they’re not in vain. We
should hope for the best and continue to prepare for the worst, just
in case the oil or it's dispersants make their way to the Florida
Keys.

Obama to visit Gulf, vows to take action on growing oil spill (What's
he going to do there that he can't do from Washington? Stick his swelled
head in the pipe?) |
|
Congress and the oil companies have been in bed together for so many
years, killing any alternative energy products like GM's Volt (which was
an excellent car) and impeding progress on the use of alternative
energy. Maybe now, people will realize there is a higher cost to using
oil and support the production/use of alternative energy sources. |

BP says it has spent more than $800 million on cleanup
and containment efforts since its Deepwater Horizon rig exploded April
20 and sank 50 miles off the Louisiana coast. Since then, an estimated
19 million gallons or more of crude has spewed into the sea.
While BP couldn't immediately provide a figure for how much money has
been spent purchasing and deploying the booms, industry estimates put
costs around $20 a foot for the basic product - totaling at least $60
million just to buy it, not to mention the cost to hire people to deploy
it. |

10 Questions For
Obama
|
|
FTR will probably never really run out of words.....we just got
lucky yesterday. And, btw, his post was much less annoying. Thanks
FTR.
|
The White House asked former President Bill
Clinton to talk to Rep. Joe Sestak about the
possibility of obtaining a senior position in
the Obama administration if he would drop out of
the Democratic primary race against
establishment-backed Sen. Arlen Specter, the
Obama administration said in a report released
Friday morning.
But the report, by White House Counsel
Robert Bauer, concluded that "allegations of
improper conduct rest on factual errors and lack
a basis in the law."
Batting down allegations that the White House
dangled the secretary of Navy position in front
of Sestak, the report said that Sestak was
offered executive branch positions on advisory
boards that were uncompensated.
One of the jobs Clinton specifically discussed
with Sestak was the president's intelligence
advisory board. But a White House official said
the plan always was for Sestak to remain in the
House, and he couldn't have served in the House
and on the president's intelligence advisory
board.
The report also described the Clinton
conversations as informal and not tied to any
precise job offer since, as a former president,
Clinton could not guarantee Sestak anything.

You would think that obama would have the decency to
attend the wreath ceremony at Arlington cemetery.
No wonder our military finds him despicable!
Hopefully he enjoys his golf game while he spits in the
militarys face.
|
|
FTR out of words? Hell
no, just busy working on a magnum opus on the damage,
past and prospective, wreaked on our great nation by the
Obama. There is so much material. A mere 18 months has
generated enough data for 18 volumes. I had to set that
aside and respond to the CT Obamist who yesterday
strutted out the failures of previous Presidents as
justification for the failure of the sitting President.
That bizarre rationalizing is commonplace in the
liberal/progressive mind. Could it be genetic? I’ll
remind the poster that Democrat Presidents routinely,
including the most recent, have each honored fallen
American service people on Memorial Day. They have done
that by attendance at Arlington Cemetery. It is always
the right thing to do. It is respectful, it is not
arrogant. The Republican named Chief Executives failed
in that facet of their duties on those singular
occasions. So now, the liberal/progressive poster is
justifying the failure of the sitting ultra
liberal/progressive wartime President by intertwining
his failure with the failures of Conservative
Republican I thought that our liberal/progressive pals
were convinced that Mr. Obama was superior to any
Republican President. If we subscribe to that
reasoning, it means that if 3 cops take bribes, it’s
O.K. for the 4th cop to take bribes. It’s
fair to note that in the just the last month American
service member deaths have doubled from the first month
of Mr. Obama’s Presidency. Mr. Obama owes those dead
young Americans. He owes them a lot. I think, and I
really hope, that even the most frothing of Obama
supporters would have preferred that Mr. Obama had
chosen to visit Arlington on Memorial Day. It is “nice”
that Mr. Obama will interrupt his vacation for an hour
or so to visit the Lincoln Cemetery. That visit would be
more appropriate on Mr. Lincoln’s birthday. I don’t like
Mr. Obama, and still I wish he had decided to attend to
his Presidential duties at Arlington.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congressman Joe Sestak: “The White House
offered me a job if I would not run against
Arlen Specter”
The White
House: “Did not”
Sestak:
“Did too!”
The White
House: “Did not!”
The media
to the White House: “Did you?”
The White
House: “Hell no!”
The media
to Sestak: “Did they?”
Sestak:
“Hell yes!”
The
foregoing was the dialog for months.
Yesterday, the White House said: “If it
happened, it wasn’t us!”…then…“Hey it wasn’t
really us, it was that nasty old Bill
Clinton who did it, and it wasn’t a real job
anyway, but, if it was, it really wasn't
a bad thing!”…then... “Oh, and it was O.K.
because lots of other Presidents have done
the same thing!”…then... “Oh and just
because it is a crime, it doesn’t mean a
thing!”… (Charming Smile)... "See, we really
don't need a special prosecutor, it was only
a little politikin (sic)."
The
Public: “Bull Shit!”
Wow, how can anyone think that Mr.
Obama was't badly damaged by Sestak's whip
ass on Specter.
So, My
Deer CT readers, whatever happened to Mr.
Obama's promise that he would have: “The
most ethical Presidency,
ever!”….“transparency”? Fasten your seat
belts gang, it's gonna be a hell of a ride.

In 1967 Kim Thornton, (not her real name), was a beautiful blonde
21 year old trying her wings as an independent single young woman. She
was employed as a secretary in a real estate firm, she lived alone. At
1:30 AM on a sultry summer night she was returning to her home in
eastern Broward after leaving a dinner with friends in the western part
of Broward County. She was driving a red Fiat convertible with the top
down. Her route took her through a dark commercial neighborhood, which,
at that time, was only sparsely occupied. The road was not lit. Kim was
in a fine mood; she had enjoyed a wonderful evening with good friends;
she was enjoying her independence, her friends and her life.
The Fiat bumped across a set of railroad
tracks, sputtered, then quit. She coasted to the side of the road. In
1967 there were no cell phones. She was in a dark, commercial
neighborhood. She was uneasy, but not truly frightened. The car had
had a complete electric failure, and was now unlit. Kim decided to stay
with her car and just wait for another car to come by. After what
seemed an eternity, head lights, east bound, came into view. The car
was going quite fast. As it shot by her, she waved and tried to get the
attention of the occupants. Her heart sank as the car continued east
bound. But then the car stopped about a hundred yards down the road
and, to her great relief, it started backing up. Kim was elated. The
car was a dark green Chevy sedan. It backed until it was parallel to
the Fiat. The Chevy stopped and the passenger, a young black male, got
out and asked if they could help.
In 2010 the race of the two young men in the
green Chevy would be totally immaterial. In Broward County in 1967
their race was very important. Kim was now frightened. Now the driver
got out of the car. The passenger, very friendly, suggested that Kim
get in the Chevy and they would drive her to the nearest gas
station. Kim, very frightened, said, “No” but she asked them to stop at
the gas station and to send a tow truck.
In an instant the two men grabbed her and,
cursing and yelling, began to try to force her into the Chevy. Kim
fought, she screamed and she kicked. The battle lasted several minutes.
Kim’s screams were heard by the
only resident of that commercial neighborhood. About a hundred yards
from the scene, Joe Perry, (not his real name) a Caucasian,
operated a small kennel and slept in an adjacent apartment. Kim’s
screams had aroused the dogs which, now coupled with Kim’s screams,
roused Perry from sleep. He grabbed his gun, a tiny .25 cal. pocket
semi-automatic handgun, and ran toward the scene. As he drew close, in
the light cast by the Chevy’s headlights, he saw the two men attempting
to force Kim into the Chevy, and could see and hear her screaming,
kicking, flailing and resisting with every fiber of her being. As he
ran closer, just before he reached the fray, Joe shouted and fired a
single warning round into the ground. The passenger immediately
released Kim and fell to the ground onto his face with his hands spread
above him. He had surrendered and was begging Perry not to kill
him. The driver paused, and then ran north into the darkness toward a
small grove of trees. Kim was hysterical, shaking and crying.
The driver had run about 100 feet and was just disappearing into the
murk when Perry again ordered him to halt. Just as the driver
disappeared into the darkness, Perry again yelled, while pointing his
tiny .25 cal in the direction of the driver. He fired. Once.
For the rest...

they are victim of the lack of professional workforce in Monroe County.
In a community as small as Monroe County non-profit organizations need
to remind their employees that they represent the organization 24/7 and
anything that they do reflects on the organization. I don't care that
the TNC hired a former executive of Goldman Sachs, as long as he is
honest and has the welfare of the Keys first on this agenda. Non-profit
organizations in this county face the challenge of hiring employees that
are creative, loyal and professional. Why aren’t the schools and the
local college turning out a quality workforce? |

[Mario DiGennaro] For every pro Mario post, I guarantee there
will at least double that amount calling Mario out for what he is.
Mario flags to young school kids while they were at a Veterans Day

manager chase after the speakers when they leave the meeting room is his
idea of acceptable politics. (Does he know how many times she followed

bargaining, trading his office. Watch the last BOCC meeting. Every time

The
upcoming Atlantic hurricane season will have between 14 to 23
tropical storms, including up to seven major hurricanes, the U.S.
government predicted Thursday. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric
Administration predicted that eight to 14 hurricanes would form.
Scientists forecast that three to seven of those hurricanes would be
major storms that reach Category 3 or higher _ meaning they bring
sustained winds of at least 111 mph. "If this outlook holds true, this
season could be one of the more active on record," NOAA administrator
Jane Lubchenco said in a statement. "The greater likelihood of storms
brings an increased risk of a landfall. In short, we urge everyone to be

Cow tipping for points is a
sport at a couple of the local watering holes. The first person to tip
five cows wins. This game is usually played during the season when the
big ones come down from New Jersey. Some of these cows will tip over by
themselves (you get no points for that). Taking one home will
automatically disqualify you from the game. The highest score so far was
established in 1989 at a bar on Ramrod. Ten cows were tipped. |

A woman goes
to the doctor, beaten black and blue. Doctor: "What happened?" Woman,
"Doctor, I don't know what to do. Every time my husband comes home drunk
he beats me to a pulp." Doctor: "I have a real good medicine for that.
When your husband comes home drunk, just take a glass of sweet tea and
start swishing it in your mouth. Just swish and swish, but don't swallow
until he goes to bed and is asleep."
Two weeks
later the woman comes back to the doctor looking fresh and reborn.
Woman: "Doctor that was a brilliant idea! Every time my husband came
home drunk, I swished with sweet tea. I swished and swished, and he
didn't touch me" Doctor: "You see how much keeping your mouth shut
helps?"

[How
to Make A Bomb] People are finding these bombs in mailboxes and in
their yards, just waiting for you to pick it up intending to put it in
the trash. But, you'll never make it!!! It takes about 30 seconds to
blow after you move the thing.
1. A plastic bottle with a cap.
2. A little Drano.
3. A little water.
4. A small piece of foil.
5. Disturb it by moving it and boom!
6. No fingers left and other serious effects to your face, eyes, etc.
7. Boom! |

John
Finn, the oldest living Medal of Honor
recipient, died Thursday morning at the age of 100 at the Chula
Vista Veterans Home. He was stationed at Keneohe Bay Naval Air
Station on Dec. 7, 1941 when he found himself firing at Japanese
planes from an exposed position at Pearl Harbor for more than two
hours despite being hit 21 times by bomb and bullet fragments. The
longtime East County resident was credited by some with
single-handedly shooting down a Japanese aircraft but he would later
say “I can’t honestly say I hit any, but I shot at every damn plane
I could see.”
Friends and fellow veterans said Lt.
Finn was a rock star in military circles. People clamored for a
handshake or to have a picture taken with him wherever he went.
Fellow Medal of Honor recipient John Kelley said Lt. Finn was a big
hit at a Veterans Day event in Massachusetts last year. “He’s kind
of a legend,” Kelley said. “He was a very warm person and had a
phenomenal memory. He made everyone who met him feel like they were
the most important person in the world.”
He downplayed his heroic efforts
during World War II and said he was just doing his job. “I read
about other guys with the medal who lost their lives or really
suffered in wars and I think about myself. I was just an uneducated
man who got mad as hell one day,” he said in 1984.
There is brave, really brave, and down
right scary brave. Still shooting after 21 hits definitely falls
into the category of down right scary brave.
God bless him and his
fellows. We are a grateful nation.

In the US anglers go out to catch the biggest and baddest fish of the

so many rules and regulations? |
[Sloan] Wisteria
Island development application. I attended the Key West City
Development Review Committee meeting at Old City Hall yesterday
afternoon, and the county meeting hosted by County Commissioner Heather
Carruthers last night at the Harvey Government Center. That brought to
four the number of meetings on the Wisteria Island development
application I had attended in three days’ time. That brought to four the
number of times I had heard the developers make their sales pitch and
county staff make their position statement. Except for some fine-tuning,
it looks to me like the developers and county staff are pretty close to
being on the same page. Meaning, what I saw and heard during the four
meetings is pretty close to what will be passed on to the County
Commission for it to decide at its June 29 meeting whether or not to
transmit to the Department of Community Affairs, for it to do its review
and farming out to other agencies for their input.
Seems pretty straight-forward. But it’s not straight-forward, because
the way this application is framed, the way county staff have explained
the County’s position, this entire deal hinges entirely on the City of
Key West coming on board with sewerage treatment, police, fire and
rescue services. Therefore, imagine my delight when one of Key West City
Commissioners told me yesterday about the Wisteria application, “Over my
dead body.” Imagine my delight when I asked City Commissioner Teri
Johnston yesterday, if the City Commission didn’t have to sign off on
the City providing sewerage treatment to the Wisteria development, and
Teri said, “Yes.” I imagine my delight to to watch the Development
Review Committee turn county staff and the developers upside down and
inside out with questions and concerns county staff and the developers
apparently had never begun to dream might be raised. Imagine my delight
to see members of the Development Review Committee, one here, one there,
throughout the three-hour meeting, frown, shake their heads, as county
staff and the developers made their presentations.
None of which you will glean from reading Mandy Miles’s article that
begins on the front page of Today’s Key West Citizen. Nor will
you glean from Mandy’s article that a young man I knew mostly in
passing, as a palm frond weaver on Duval Street and as an assistant at
Lighthouse Ministry for street and runaway children on Southard Street,
told Roger Bernstein, whose family has owned Wisteria Island for 43
years, that he would be happy to go onto Wisteria and clean up all of
the debris and trash there. Nor will you glean from Mandy’s article that
Bernstein, after the meeting had ended, told the young man that he would
not go along with that.
Nor will you glean from Mandy’s article, after Bernstein said at the
county meeting last night that he himself would not go onto Wisteria
Island to try to get it cleaned up, because of the kind of people who
hung out there, I said he had told a young man at the city meeting he
had could not go out there and clean it up, and I was wondering if, as
had been suggested by the Key West Citizen Editorial Board in an
Editorial, the Bernsteins didn’t want the island cleaned up because that
would make it harder for them to sell their development to the County
and the City?
Bernstein stared daggers at me, then he got up and said he didn’t want
to give the young man permission because he felt he was being set up.
The young man then spoke. He lives in a boat out there near Wisteria
Island. He said he and people he could round up could clean the island
up pretty quick. In the midst of this, Commissioner Carruthers flew to
Bernsteins’ defense, whereupon I told her she needed to not take sides
but to let what was being said speak for itself. None of which was in
Mandy Miles’ article. I wonder why? Surely it didn’t have anything to do
with my having reminded everyone there of what the Citizen Editorial
Board had published about maybe the Bernsteins didn’t want Wisteria
cleaned up, because maybe that would hinder their argument that they
should be allowed to develop it so they could clean it up. The rest... goodmorningfloridakeys.com |

OIL
SPILL |
|
[Oil Spill] It
really warms my heart to see that the most monumental, damaging, and what will
be the longest lasting man-made disaster ever in all of the history of our short
stay on this planet is only being used to re-ignite the old “left vs. right”
“liberal vs. conservative” “democrat vs. republic” bulls**t.
I
am appalled that my fellow human beings are fighting each other over this oil
spill. We are all in the same little boat, and its sinking. While we’re fighting
over the few life vests we’ve been given, the men and women who caused this,
allowed it, and will find a way to profit from it are riding around on a luxury
liner. Divide and conquer at its finest.
Even as I read here on the CT and other places daily people are fighting each
other over bulls**t left vs right politics (when anyone who knows anything about
the situation knows they are merely different heads of the same seven headed
beast), I cant seem to give up hope on you people. So, here is my heartfelt
plea:
Please, do not use your fellow man as an outlet for your rage. Whether right or
left, red or blue, liberal or conservative, we will all be negatively impacted.
We will all be hurt. We will all have loved ones who will die as a result. It is
not our fault, and anyone telling us that is a demonic, lying shill for the
elite. It is the corporations, and the subservient government, and the lapdog
mainstream ‘news’ that has allowed this. They have caused this, and they are
bullshitting every step of the way, delaying measures that will truly help, and
position themselves legally so they will lose as little money as possible.
Teachers are being fired daily, education is in the crapper, public programs
designed to improve our quality of life were signed away in the multi-trillion
dollar blank checks given to the banks that went straight into the pockets of
the same elite that rigged the system. They sold off our quality of life, our
health and safety, our children’s education, and every other aspect of our
civilized life wholesale without a second thought.
Divided, they will defeat us. They will make us fight each other any way they
can (race, politics, class are big ones) while they drain the planet and all her
inhabitants of every last drop. The TV and all of the entertainment were
bombarded with on a daily basis is designed to re-enforce these stereotypes,
keep us thinking we are all different and that everyone else is wrong for it.
This is not true.
Only united will we stand strong. Only united we will once again experience true
freedom, health, and safety. Only united will we be able to defeat the ruling
class. Obama is as much to blame as Bush, Clinton, and Bush Sr. because they all
supported the corporate pillaging of America. They all supported repealing the
very laws designed to restrict corporate control and influence. They are
puppets, illusions, talking heads put there to distract us from the men behind
the curtain.
Oil spills, foreclosures, bank runs, wars in 5 countries, police brutality,
corporate corruption, government corruption, bankruptcies, increasing gas
prices, increasing food prices, riots, austerity measures, massive layoffs,
widespread unemployment, hate speech, sanctions, nuclear threats, terrorist
attacks, warrantless wiretapping, extrajudicial killings. The list goes on.
These are all a product of our corrupt system. Middle and lower class human
beings gain nothing from these. Only the elite profit from such misery.
The people are waking up. Their eyes and minds are opening. The new awakening is
upon us. We are all in the same little boat, sitting on an oily ocean, and we’re
sinking fast. Target those who really caused this mess. The system needs to be
purged. |

BP makes $97 million day in profits. How many Americans can't even fathom
that? |
|
[Oil
gobbling microbes] To disperse these little Pac men is really not that hard
and there is no real need to get that elaborate. The US Air Force has several
C-130s all ready equipped for spraying. These are the same type of Aircraft used
by the Hurricane Hunters. They are used every year to spray around military
bases with mosquito control and are flown, manned and maintained by the Air
Force Reserve. The equipment is there, the trained personnel are there; what are
they waiting for? |
|
Feds
allowing the Coast Guard to help BP prevent journalist access to areas
already being destroyed] That's because if there is any real proof of how big
oil, and all the other big one-thing-or-another, control the economy, control
the people, control and be part of big Government, we would get to find out how
screwed we've been getting a little sooner. I'm sick of the big powerhouses in
and around our government being so much a part of and so invested in oil. I'm
just very disgusted with our federal government, our state and local
governments, and the blatant corruption, cronyism, the very obvious bubba
system, and all the other garbage that we're exposed to regularly. Lack of good
jobs, lack of affordable housing for the middle class, which is slowly being
swept away by the wealthy folk who migrated down here like vultures, who keep
trying to turn the Keys into Disneyland. They have caused a very serious lack of
hope. I am having a very difficult time trying to remain hopeful that there is a
way for us to survive the economy and the destruction of the environment, the
incomprehensible greed that gobbles up all sense of honesty and ethics. |
|

The oil leak is possibly four times bigger than the
Exxon Valdez. |
|
I've been waiting to hear, too, how those oil-eating microbes
are working. Now you tell me they aren't being used? I live in Texas and
Houston TV was interviewing that company the day the disaster started. They'd
already made their pitch for business to start work, having contacted BP about
their product. Yesterday I saw more coverage that there's a Dutch company with
tech to collect large spills who has offered their help also. They cite great
success in cleaning up smaller spills. Govt shouldn't be doing the work; they
should be hiring competent help. |

[Poachers]
Fishermen need to aid and support the enforcement of fishing regulations
in marine reserves. As a concerned fisherman I have reported many
poachers in the reserves I visit in the Florida Keys, poachers who
are are stealing the future of our fishery. I put 305-289-2320 on the
speed dial of my cell phone so calling Marathon FWC dispatch is easy. I
tell dispatch my name and where the violation is (example: Western
Sambos Ecological Reserve just south of Boca Chica Key or Looe Key
Sanctuary Preservation Area on the reef line south of Big Pine)
I'll tell them the latitude and longitude of my boat (GPS
coordinates) and a description of my boat and then describe what the
poachers are doing (spear fishing, lobstering out of season or fishing
in zone marked by yellow buoys) and they will know the general area to
look. I describe the poachers’ vessel (example: 25' World cat with twin
200 Yamahas, red Bimini top and outriggers with 4 people on board
fishing at the Looe Key research only zone)
If you
let poachers steal your future you don't deserve to catch a fish.
Support the creation of Marine reserves and improve your legal catch.

[Sloan] (this was sent to Sloan from Marathon)
Bioremediation For Oil Spills.
Bioremediation allows natural processes to clean up harmful
chemical compounds in the environment. Microscopic “bugs” or microbes that
live in soil and groundwater like to eat certain elements (carbon
typically), such as those found in gasoline and oil spills. When microbes
completely digest these chemical compounds they change them into water and
harmless gases such as carbon dioxide.
In response to a recent request regarding the use of microbes to mitigate,
defend against, and expedite the clean up of oil spill damage to coastal
communities I submit the following 3 scenarios:
Mitigation: Introduction of microbes at the source of the oil spill can
mitigate up to 95% of the downstream effects of the leaked product. By
introducing microbes to their food (raw oil) at the spill site we give the
microbes the maximum time to eat oil. A few crew type vessels can be
outfitted with small bioreactors to “brew” microbes on site. Microbes can be
pumped via a fire hose type setup onto the ascending oil plume. A well fed
microbe population typically doubles in count every 20 minutes. The washing
machine effect of the wave action coupled with the sprayed microbes ensures
the microbes attach themselves to the oil slick at the earliest point
possible. (As microbes do not do well in very cold water it would be
wasteful to introduce them at the actual source of the leak which is 5000 ft
below the surface.) As the slick spreads it is actually decreasing in oil
volume and density as the microbes eat the carbon atoms out of the
hydrocarbon chain leaving only water and Oxygen as by-product. This process
is inexpensive to put into place and gives substantial bang for the buck.
Defending shore communities: This method requires a combination of both
bioremediation capabilities as well as mechanical means in order to be most
effective. As an example, I will use the town of Marathon, Florida.
Differing coastal geography and community requirements will dictate the
exact methods of defense, with larger more spread out areas being more
difficult to defend, while smaller inland harbors and bays less so. The
preferred method is to “rope” off the area using oil booms and then “infect”
the oil booms with microbes. In Marathon a series of pilings can be driven
in the shallow waters of Florida Bay and oil booms stretched between them.
As the oil comes into contact with the barrier a concentrated slick will
form on the outside of the boom. Small boats can be used to patrol the boom
line and when they find concentrated areas of oil, microbes can be
introduced using simple spray pumps. For a community like Marathon that is
approximately 7 miles long we might figure for 100 pilings equally spaced at
500-700 ft intervals. “Gates” can be maintained at intervals so as not to
unduly restrict access to the valuable fishing resource. Migration of fishes
would not be restricted in that the booms are less than 5 ft deep. Though
more costly than direct mitigation methods, this method virtually guarantees
that no oil winds up on valuable shoreline assets. In fact, the mechanical
aspect of the process is the major expense. Defense of a community like
Marathon could be put into place quickly. The ultimate cost would depend
primarily on how long the barriers and patrols had to be maintained. When
the emergency subsided the poles could be removed leaving little evidence
that they were ever there.
Clean up of oil already washing up onshore and into grass or mangrove
islands is the most difficult and expensive of the options. Typically this
requires substantial mechanical intervention and is not without lasting
negative habitat and environmental impacts. Introduction of microbes at this
point is both labor and microbe intensive and for this reason the resultant
cost is higher. That said, it is still only a fraction of the cost of other
methods in practice today and decidedly more effective. We propose to
institute the use of foam sprayers into affected areas to distribute the
microbes to the oil. Unfortunately this has to be done by hand but using
sprayers we can alleviate the need to trample on every bit of habitat in
order to clean it free of oil. Large mangrove island type habitats can be
cleaned from offshore with this method, with no need to invade the interior
of the island. As microbes are naturally occurring, multiple applications,
if required, do no damage to the environment.
British Petroleum would be wise to heed the call of the microbe. A billion
dollar cleanup could be done more effectively, with less lasting habitat
effects and at a tiny fraction of the cost of the methods they seem to be
employing at this time. Clean and Green Products, along with local marine
contracting partners, is prepared to implement any or all of these proposed
solutions. Clean and Green Products is a Florida Keys based business that
distributes proprietary blends of microbes designed to perform specific
bioremediation tasks. In this case we can supply microbe blends that are
both effective and cost efficient in alleviating the effects of the Gulf
Horizon Oil spill disaster now facing the coastal communities bordering the
Gulf of Mexico.

What
a lot of people don't seem to realize is that we are currently hostages
of BP and their corporate associates. We can scream as long and as loud as
we want about how long it is taking to gain control of the spill, but we
lack both the equipment and the skills needed to stop it. All of the
technological capabilities, equipment and skills required are in the hands
of the people who screwed up in the first place. If our government decided
tomorrow to assume responsibility for stopping the spill the first thing
they would have to do is hire the people and purchase the equipment
currently at work on it. Consequently, all we can do for the moment is let
BP and its cohorts stumble through to a solution of the current problem.
However, we are
obligated to demand the establishment of regulations, limits and safeguards
that will ensure that something like this does not happen again. We will
find motivation for regulation in the fact that we will probably see the
consequences of this spill coming at us via the Loop Current and the Gulf
Stream for the next couple of years. |

[Microbes]
It’s now known our Great White Father in Washington, that is, the United
States Government, and its various agencies/departments that are supposed to
look out for us and the environment has been letting big oil look out for us
instead.
It’s now known the British Petroleum (BP) department of big oil did not use
the most modern or safest drilling equipment or practices on its Deepwater
Horizon oil rig off the Louisiana coast. It’s now known the reason BP did
not use the most modern or safest drilling equipment is because that
equipment’s safety device, once engaged, plugs a well instantly and
permanently. Meaning, no more oil can be obtained from that rig. Meaning, no
more money can be made from that rig.
It’s now generally believed BP and our Great White Father in Washington have
consistently and purposefully understated the amount of oil gushing out of
the seabed where BP’s Deepwater Horizon well blew up and was not sealed
immediately, because it did not have the safety device that would seal it
immediately, because that safety device would terminate that oil rig’s oil
recovery forever.
BP and our Great White Father in Washington still have not plugged the
seabed gusher, and their efforts to mitigate the oil already on the loose
are pretty much not doing a very good job, to doing an awful job, all of
their rhetoric to the contrary notwithstanding.
What is only just now becoming known to slow-minded people such as me is
there has been, for some time, now a microbe technology that is hugely
successful in cleaning up oil spills on land and on water, including
saltwater. BP and our Great White Father in Washington know about these
microbe oil gobblers, which work a hell of a lot better and cost a hell of a
lot less than the methods BP is now using. As far as is known, these oil
gobbing microbes cause no collateral damage and themselves die off and
become fish food after they have no more oil to gobble.
Down below is a YouTube link presentation of this microbe oil gobbling
technology, which State Attorney Dennis Ward forwarded to a lot of people
yesterday after he received it from someone else. The microbe oil gobblers
were tested by the State of Texas for oil spills. Texas then decreed oil
gobbling microbes would be the first and central defense response to all oil
spills in Texas, and all oil companies in Texas would make these oil
gobbling microbes their first and central defense response to oil spills.
As you watch the video, ask yourself why the State of Texas hasn’t been
screaming to high heaven for it to be allowed to intervene and put its oil
gobbling microbes to work gobbling up this devastating oil spill Big Oil and
our Great White Father in Washington have unleashed on us. Also wonder why
BP and our Great White Father in Washington did not already adopt and use
“the Texas solution” on this terrorist oil attack. Also wonder why Big Oil
and our Great White Father Washington did not already require all oil
drilling companies to incorporate the “Texas solution” as their central
defense response to oil spills.
Tell your elected city and county officials about the “Texas solution.”
Maybe if they scream loud enough to Tallahassee and Washington, somebody
with sense and say-so will do something with it.

main purpose for existing--more tax cuts for our sainted wealthy who are
gathering in more and more of the available cash around and sending the
national debt into the twilight zone due to the lost tax revenue. How many
new cars are they going to buy? This whole lash-up is circling the drain. |

[From
the Right]
I’ve got to admit that it is gratifying to learn that at
least one of my critical fans has actually taken the time to check the
facts. It is encouraging. Please remember that I have routinely urged that
every reader not believe what they read from anybody, If you want to know
the truth, you’ve got to check all facets of the issue for yourself. If you
are a routine reader you will know that I routinely back up my claims of
fact with citations. My opinions are my opinions, you either share them or
you have your own opinions. I have always written that it is my intent to
influence the thinking of every single reader of this site. I believe that
that is the goal of every single contributor to CT who comments on any
political issue. If that is not their purpose, they are just silly natters.
I will always present my beliefs in the best possible light. What I write is
what I am convinced is the truth. Trickery or purposefully misleading
postings are counter productive and nothing more than admission of weakness
and lack of resolve. I appreciate the poster pointing out that my postings
are truthful, he only questioned my interpretation of the facts. That's
fine, that's fair, that's what discourse is all about. It is healthy, it is
American. The truth seeking reader suggested that a $75K contribution was
inadequate money to purchase presidential favor. The fact is that Mr. Obama
won. BP had contributed big money in order to ensure that Mr. Obama would
look on them and their endeavors in a favorable light. It's true, BP did
spend much money on other candidates, it was not money wasted, it still
provided BP with intro and good will from powerful politicos, winners and
losers. The contributions insured that BP was the reak winner. So, the
question becomes, how stringently has BP, important donor to Mr. Obama,
been regulated by team Obama. We know that it was ill regulated under the
Bush admin. We know that the Obama admin was fully aware of that fact long
before they took office. We know that they promised to clean up MMS. We know
that they acknowledged to MMS staff that that MMS was a mess. We know that
MMS did not reform in any fashion under Obama. We know that MMS was and is a
failed agency. We have just learned that MMS is now mired in yet
another scandal involving porn on MMS computers and improper relationships
between Big Oil and MMS (see below). We know that Team Obama should have,
but failed to repair MMS, we’ve seen no evidence of any effort on the part
of Team Obama to repair MMS prior to the disaster. We know that Team Obama
had failed grotesquely to have a remediation plan in place prior to the
disaster. I am convinced that if MMS had been doing it's mandated job, we
would not be in our current situation. Deer Friends we are where we are as
the result of Team Obama's failures. We know that the spill is now 38 days
old and there still is no massive federal aid is in place in Louisiana. We
know that BP was given favored treatment under Obama. We know that rig
inspectors had not been keeping their schedule of inspections. We know BP
was specially permitted by Team Obama to proceed with Deep Horizon without
having conducted an environmental impact study. Now we know that the list of
Mr. Obama’s MMS regulatory failures, whether simple incompetence or greed is
much more egregious than during the Bush years. The hypocrisy of Team Obama
is breath taking. On the one hand, when speaking to their
liberal/progressive base, they decry Big Oil as being the devil incarnate.
At the very same instant they give BP and big oil special privileges and
ignore their regulatory duties. None of that is a quarter truth, its all
truth, and I suspect that you know it. |

[Re: Deer Ed Sucks Words] The person who submitted
that post complaining that Deer Ed had changed their wording to the
point where it did not mean what the author intended must be new to the
CT. This has been a long standing complaint that many have expressed to
the editor of this forum over the years. He (or they) claims that they
are only doing this because so many of the submissions are so poorly
written as to be unintelligible. This is, of course, is complete BS.
Having seen No Edit Saturdays we all know what grammatical disasters
people are sending in, but the Ed feels the need to modify other posts
for his own hidden agenda. I have had many texts that were perfectly
acceptable, in terms of grammar and topic, altered for no apparent
reason other than it rubbed Deer Ed the wrong way. One bit of hypocrisy
I noted was how Ed complains about the amount of time required to
assemble the CT every day yet he still found the time to edit a picture
I had sent in with an amusing caption. The caption was removed from the
picture and re-written in a slightly less humorous version in the text
portion of the column. There was just no rational explanation why
someone who was so pressed for time would do that. Another time I was
involved in an argument with someone because of what they posted only to
discover that the point of contention was only because of editing by Ed.
Newcomers to the CT should also know that there are certain people here
whom Ed will not allow any serious criticism of.
I know that editing a daily website is a difficult and
mostly thankless job and I applaud Ed for providing us with a place to
voice our opinions. However, visitors should be reminded that not
everything they read here is exactly as the author intended, some topics
are taboo and that if you read something funny no doubt the original
version was probably twice as humorous. And my last, but not least,
gripe is that the so-called No Edit Saturday is in fact edited. (Ed:
This post was edited.) |

[Sloan]
In 2007 the citizens of Key West made it very clear (by an overwhelming
vote of 68.9%) that they did NOT want the City of Key West to annex
Wisteria Island (take the island into the city limits) for the sole
purpose of allowing the Bernstein and Walsh (think Westin and Sunset
Key) families to develop the island with 168 units compared to the TWO
(2) units permitted under the current Monroe County land use
regulations. Now they are back, this time with a somewhat smaller but
still substantial development proposal, which, as was explained by
county staff at yesterday’s Monroe County Development Review Committee
meeting in Marathon, will make Wisteria Island look like Sunset Key.
The
development application currently on the table depends entirely on the
City of Key West entering into a three-way agreement with the Bernstein
and Walsh families’ and Monroe County, for the City to provide sewerage
collection and treatment for the development. Under the current
development application, raw sewerage will be collected on Wisteria and
sent through as yet unconstructed underwater piping to Sunset Key, where
it then will be collected and sent on to Key West though existing
underwater piping, for transfer with Sunset Key’s raw sewerage to Key
West’s sewerage treatment plant on Fleming Key.
While the
Bernsteins and Walshes were still haggling with the County over various
side bar issues, it seemed at the DRC meeting yesterday that they are
going to get most of what the want from the County, if they get Key West
to take care of the raw sewerage coming off of Wisteria Island. What the
Bernsteins and Walshes want is two things. First, a marina with a
mooring field and an upland support facility, which DRC staff said the
Bernsteins and Walshes are entitled to by right. Second, permission to
build 75 residences on the rest of the island, which DCR staff said the
Bernsteins are not entitled to by right, but need County approval and a
Comprehensive Plan change to allow it.
I sensed
before yesterday’s meeting that the Bernsteins and Washes thought they
were entitled by right to everything they want to do on Wisteria
Island. I sensed they thought Monroe County has to give them everything
they want; they are legally entitled to it. After listening to the
Bernstein brothers and their representatives, and representatives of the
Walshes yesterday, I became convinced their position is they indeed
think the County has to give them everything they want, and if they
don’t get it, they will litigate and argue it is a “taking” and the
County has to pay them what the island is worth with 75 residential
building permits on it.
Right now,
Wistera Island is appraised by the County Tax Assessor at $150, 000, and
has been so appraised for about 20 years. The Bernsteins had paid taxes
at that valuation for all of those years, before recently taking the
Walshesin as investors for the island’s development. The Bernsteins did
not pay taxes at a valuation they now say the property is worth, based
on their having a legal right already to build 75 residences on the
island. In fact, they paid less taxes per year for 20 years than I have
paid each of the last three years, and will pay this year, on my one
acre of land on Little Torch Key. Yet the Bernsteins said yesterday,
that’s okay; they are entitled to build 75 residences for profit on an
island they have said to all the world, by paying the taxes, is only
worth $150,000. And County staff seemed to agree with them.
Just for
discussion sake, let’s say $40,000,000 is what Wisteria Island is worth
with 75 residential building permits. That is what ...

SUFA has not had an increase for the last two years. Their contact

expectation of any additional monies. While the percentage rate of the
request may seem somewhat high, that's only because they receive so
little money in the first place. Let's put it in perspective. SUFA's
entire requested increase is less than the cost to the County of hiring
one secretary. |

[Quarter
Truths] Following is an example of why FTR is not a liar, but
clearly a 1/4 truth guy. He is often accurate, but usually incomplete.
Since the BP oil spill, He has written the following over and over
again:
The huge big
oil contributions to Mr. Obama.
Mr. Obama and
his team have taken long tons of money from big oil
BP gave Mr.
Obama more money than any other Presidential candidate in history.
It is Mr.
Obama who has received more money from BP than any other politician in
history.
Mr. Obama has
collected more BP political money than any politician, ever.
Mr. Obama is
the top recipient of money in the past 20 years from oil giant BP and BP
Political Action Committees.
I checked with
the Center for Responsive Politics website that tracks donations.
According to the site, Obama received $77,051 dollars from BP. Yes it
was the most for any candidate. But seriously, can you buy a president
for less than a hundred grand? The FTR guy fails to note that the amount
of their donations doubled in 2008 compared to 2004. BP has spent 3.5
million on election campaigns over the last 20 years. BP donated
$531,124 during 2007-08, 60% to the Republicans and 41% to the
Democrats. Under Energy/Natural Resources Industries, during 2007-08
McCain received $4,090,435 and Obama $2,782,904, 60.2% for all
Republican candidates and 39.7% for all Democrats. |

Here’s an interesting factoid. In January 2007, Mr. Bush’s job approval

[From the
Right] Imagine that you’re a 15 year old kid, you’re home, alone.
You live in a nice neighborhood, you love your Dad and you’re proud of
him. Suddenly, 14 school buses pull up in the street in front of your
home, several hundred angry screaming and chanting people storm from the
buses, most are wearing black shirts and red hats. The sameness of the
clothing is of itself scary, it reminds you of uniforms. They are waving
banners and are being exhorted to shout and chant louder and louder.
They don’t stop at your sidewalk, they stream onto your front lawn,
they trample your carefully tended shrubbery. Then they mob onto your
front porch and pound on the door. The mob’s screaming, pounding on your
front door, terrifies you. Finally the mob disperses. The busses load
up and drive away. There is a dispute as to how long the union assault
on a citizens home continued, some say nearly an hour, some say only a
few minutes. Does the length of time of the assault really matter? All
that matters that that kid and his home were assaulted by union thugs.
Does that matter to you? The facts are that union thugs, stormed a
residential neighborhood and attacked the residence of an American
citizen. Their purpose was clear; they wanted to intimidate the citizen,
his family, and anyone who would have the temerity to oppose them. The
term “bully” is much too mild. The term "terrorist" seems much more
apropo. We are now reaping the seeds that were sowed 18 months ago.
Those seeds have sprouted a weed regime of Chicago thuggery. That my
Deer Friends, is the new norm for union protesting. That is exactly what
happened just the other day at the home of a Bank of America executive.
The SEIU (government workers, police unions) were protesting home
foreclosures. They are proud of their new tactic, we will see more of
it. Think of it. Thank God that the 15 year old hid in a bathroom and
did not grab Dad’s gun and shoot through his front door. The mob would
have torn him apart in the name of union solidarity. Take a look at the
video below and then see if you think the union tactics were thuggery
was it terrorism. Websters defines the word "terrorism": "the systematic
use of terror especially as a means of coercion."

(Part II) More and more of us are mad as hell at the
amount of Federal spending. The anger began early in the Bush admin
with howls by the Democrats that the Republicans and Mr. Bush were
running up the national debt. The spending dramatically increased when
the Democrats took control of the Congress and the purse strings in
2006. Since the elections of 2008, the debt has stopped its on ramp
increase and has begun a skyrocket climb that has now exceeded even the
most outrageous predictions of just a few years ago. More and more of us
are demanding that spending must be stopped. Congressman Eric Cantor
has begun a new project to start us down that road. He has put up a web
site at which you can vote every week for one of five programs to that
you would choose to cut from the Federal budget. The items will change
every week. Cantor promises to bring to a Congressional vote, each
week, the item that gets the most votes for being cut. He can’t
guarantee that the item chosen will be cut, but at least it will come to
a vote and your voice will be heard. Try it, you’ll like it. I just
voted to cut federal raises. |

[Adopt
a Pet] I don’t think anyone minds a high fee for a companion they
will have for many years. It’s the third-degree we get trying to adopt.
It’s almost as troublesome as adopting a child. It seems the pet
agencies are cutting off their noses to spite their face. They want us
to adopt, but place every obstacle they can think of in our way because
they are afraid we will sell the animal for research. So they will let
the animals live a rotten life in the shelter. They would do better to
empty the shelters into homes of people who want a pet, but don’t want
the third-degree. So-what if their landlord doesn’t allow animals? Just
let the person bring the critter back to the shelter and forfeit the
fee. It’s better than letting the animals languish in those smelly,
over-crowded shelters. |

In March of 1979, there were Black law enforcement employees in south
Florida. They were not rare, but there were only a few. Lucile Benson
was one of the few. She was married, she had two kids. Lucille was a
meter maid in a small south Florida community. The community had been
a small farm town that was cautiously casting off its sleepy farm town
roots and was on its way to becoming a major suburban community. The
community had a small police department that was still in the process of
reinventing itself as a modern law enforcement agency. The Police
Department was turning the page on employment prejudice and the
community’s segregationist history. Lucille Benson was a part of that
journey.
She had been
hired as a part of a one year federal grant. Lucille was making friends
within the community of old line cops. She was well liked; her coworkers
described her as being friendly and outgoing. More importantly, her work
was respected.
Patrolman Dick
Colwell (not his real name) was a relative newcomer to the police
department, having been a part of the department for only about a year.
Colwell, too, was well liked. He was seen as being a good natured cop
who got along well with his fellow workers. Colwell was not a star, nor
was he a slug. He was seen as being competent, but a “class clown”. At
that time whenever a police officer killed or wounded a civilian, or
whenever a police officer was killed, it was routine practice for most
of the agencies in our jurisdiction to contact our agency. I was always
on call and nearly always responded to the scene.
Depending on
the circumstances, our agency would conduct the investigation or we
would simply monitor it and act as an advisor. As I recall I took the
call in the mid-afternoon. The Chief of Police called, but he declined
to discuss the circumstances on the telephone, he advised that his
agency had a serious problem and asked that we respond to his police
department. When I arrived, about 20 minutes after the call, the Det.
Sgt. immediately took me to the uniformed officers briefing room which
was now empty. I was then taken to the ladies room which was immediately
adjacent to the back wall of the briefing room. The door on one of the
two stalls was hanging open. That wall of that stall was the same wall
as the rear of the Uniform Briefing Room. Lucille Benson was sitting on
the toilet, she had a small wad of toilet paper clutched in the fingers
of her right hand which was hanging limply on her right side. Lucille
Benson was dead.

[Peace
Park Update] Members of the Coral Shores Student Peace Alliance in
Tavernier have successfully lobbied the County Commission for Peace
Parks within the county's parks. All of the parks in unincorporated
Monroe County will soon have sections dedicated as Peace Parks. Peace
Alliance President, Annabelle Brickner, says placing plaques in each
park that say "Community Peace Park: We are all the Keys to Peace" will
bring awareness, and that awareness is the first step to peace. The
group has raised $900 and pledged to fund the plaques for the parks in
the upper Keys. The students are seeking donations to purchase plaques

Thoughts on AA basher. This
person was probably convicted of multiple DUIs and ordered to fulfill a

they won't try it because it didn't work for them before.

The incident was reportedly sparked when Gibb, who had been hanging out in the
British Airways first-class lounge, was chosen before boarding for a random pat

airline doesn't name names, indeed, "A customer due to travel to Los Angeles

Gibb performed with his brothers Maurice and Barry in the popular 1970s group

OIL SPILL |
[Sloan]
It’s now known our Great White Father in Washington, that is, the United
States Government, and its various agencies/departments that are
supposed to look out for us and the environment, has been letting Big
Oil look out for us instead.
It’s now known the British Petroleum (BP) department of Big Oil did not
use the most modern or safest drilling equipment or practices on its
Deepwater Horizon oil rig off the Louisiana coast. It’s now known the
reason BP did not use the most modern or safest drilling equipment is
because that equipment’s safety device, once engaged, plugs a well
instantly and permanently. Meaning, no more oil can be obtained from
that rig. Meaning, no more money can be made from that rig.
It’s now generally believed BP and our Great White Father in Washington
have consistently and purposefully understated the amount of oil gushing
out of the seabed where BP’s Deepwater Horizon well blew up and was not
sealed immediately, because it it not have the safety device that would
seal it immediately, because that safety device would terminate that oil
rig’s oil recovery forever.
BP and our Great White Father in Washington still have not plugged the
seabed gusher, and their efforts to mitigate the oil already on the
loose are pretty much not doing a very good job, to doing an awful job,
all of their rhetoric to the contrary notwithstanding.
What is only just now becoming known to slow-minded people such as
myself is there has been for some time now a microbe technology that is
hugely successful in cleaning up oil spills on land and on water,
including saltwater. BP and our Great White Father in Washington know
about these microbe oil gobblers, which work a hell of a lot better and
cost a hell of a lot less than the methods BP is now using. As far as is
known, these oil gobbing microbes cause no collateral damage and
themselves die off and become fish food after they have no more oil to
gobble.
Down below is a youtube link presentation of this microbe oil gobbling
technology, which State Attorney Dennis Ward forwarded to a lot of
people yesterday after he received it from someone else. The microbe oil
gobblers were tested by the State of Texas for oil spills. Texas then
decreed oil gobbling microbes would be the first and central defense
response to all oil spills in Texas, and all oil companies in Texas
would make these oil gobbling microbes their first and central defense
response to oil spills.
As you watch the video, ask yourself why the State of Texas hasn’t been
screaming to high heaven for it to be allowed to intervene and put its
oil gobbling microbes to work gobbling up this devastating oil spill Big
Oil and our Great White Father in Washington have unleashed on us. Also
wonder why BP and our Great White Father in Washington did not already
adopt and use “the Texas solution” on this terrorist oil attack. Also
wonder why Big Oil and our Great White Father Washington did not already
require all oil drilling companies to incorporate the “Texas solution”
as their central defense response to oil spills.
Tell your elected city and county officials about the “Texas solution.”
Maybe if they scream loud enough to Tallahassee and Washington, somebody
with sense and say-so will do something with it.

It'll be interesting to see if those of us who are in
Keys' waters for a living will get something worse than staph from
the oil spill. Staphlylococcus aureus: Usually shortened to staph,
staphylococcus aureus bacteria are everywhere, including in the noses or
on the skin of healthy people. Methicillin-resistant staphylococcus, or
MRSA, is a drug-resistant strain of the same bacteria. Infections often
start as a small pimple or boil and can spread to the rest of the body. |

the Arizona law is to accomplish that goal in a constitutional
fashion". So sorry FTR, there are many Constitutional lawyers (who are
much smarter than you pretend to be) who would disagree with your
statement. President Obama and Lindsay Graham are among these.
President Obama and the Judicial Dept. are looking into this. It’s a far
cry from "declaring war on Arizona"! |

[From the Right] Mr. Obama and his team of not so
merry persons (pc at all cost) really, really, I mean really wanted
Arlen Specter to beat that upstart Joe Sestak. Obama personally
campaigned for him. Joe Biden campaigned for him, the Unions campaigned
for him. The Democrat machine gave him millions to spend on his
campaign. Then they tried a bridge too far. They offered Congressman
Sestak a job in the Obama admin if he would not run against Spector. The
buzz is that it was the Secretary of Navy position, Sestak is a retired
admiral. Sestak said “thanks, but no thanks”. At this juncture it’s
unclear if Sestak is an honorable man, or perhaps he didn’t trust Obama,
or perhaps he was aware that the Obama job offer was a felony. Yep, a
felony. Robert Gibbs, Obama’s, flack in chief, admits that a job was
offered. Gibbs refuses to confirm that a job was offered to Sestak in a
quid pro quo deal. But he also refuses to deny it. He will only say that
“nothing inappropriate occurred.” Gibbs refuses to identify the culprit
who offered the job. But, a huge hairy butt, Sestak himself says that a
job was offered. So there we have it. Mr. Obama suffered immense loss
of face and political clout Specters drubbing. Mr. Obama’s existing
SECNAV, Ray Mabus, must be feeling all warm and fuzzy now about Mr.
Obama. And worst of all, there now is a political/criminal storm a
brewing in and around Team Obama. If you are an Obama supporter, but
you are feeling gut level twinges about him and his, you’re in good
company. 55% of American likely voters disapprove of Mr. Obama’s
performance, while 43% of them strongly disapprove. |

[Teresa’s Benefit]
Thank you so very much to everyone who helped support our benefit for
Teresa. Over 100 friends partied on the big lawn, and almost $7,000 was
raised through the grand prize raffle, the auction, food sales, and the
$100 per ticket 50/50 drawing. The weather was perfect, Cat 4 played
killer classic rock, Boondocks served up great pork sandwiches and
“teenie weenies”, and Pepsi kept us all refreshed. The Parmer’s crew
really outdid themselves, especially Krystal Siwek. I am so proud today.

Andy Griffiths' recommendation
that Monique Acevedo does house arrest or work release rather than go to
prison just shows what some of us have been saying throughout the
scandal. He was just totally unaware of the magnitude of the corruption
and remains totally unaware of the attitude of the community toward the
perpetrator of the crime.
I suppose we should not be surprised, however. Andy's strong suit has
never been overseeing other people's money. Wasn't he on the Board of
Keys Federal Credit Union when the feds came in and took it over?
Giving back to the community is a noble idea, but the community is not
well served when you're not very good at what you're trying to do. |

[Polka
Dot Wasp] My wife shot this picture of a polka dot wasp moth, also
called an Uncle Sam Moth on our desert rose the other day, laying eggs.
We've seen lots of them lately, and they lay eggs on our desert roses
that turn into orange caterpillars with black fuzzies who voraciously
eat the leaves. We flick them off (literally) when we see them, but we
deliberately leave one or two to support the local butterfly
population. If you like butterflies, you’ve got to share your plants
with a few caterpillars now and then. |

[Tournament]
Due to high winds this weekend, we have extended the Florida Keys Triple
Slam Fishing Tournament. The Captain's Meeting will be on Friday May
28th at Reef Light Tackle, with fishing on Saturday May 29th. We need
the community's support for our local food bank. We have reduced the
entry fees to only $75 per angler along with one non-perishable can
good. There are $6,000 in awards and trophies. Come on out and support
your local food bank. Can goods from non-angler's would be appreciated
as well. Stop by Reef Light Tackle anytime this week to make a
non-perishable donation to the United Methodist Church Food Bank. Entry
forms for the tournament are available at Reef Light Tackle in Big Pine
Key. |
[Sloan]
In reply to Danny Coll's comments directed my way on yesterday’s CT.
Well, gosh awash, Danny. Looks like I must have hit the bulls-eye,
judging by your reaction. You say most everyone here finds me to be
poison. You know most everyone here? Here in the Keys? Here on Big Pine
Key and close by? Here in the Coconut Telegraph? Where’s here, Danny?
And you know most people wherever here is, and they have told you I’m
poison? (Ed: Sloan had over fifty thousand visits to his website last
month)
You ask if I really honestly think the voters of Monroe County don’t
know and understand the rules and regulations on voting in their county?
I know for a fact many voters don’t know and understand the rules and
regulations on voting in the Keys. I know from talking to voters that
they don’t know and understand. You certainly didn’t think voters knew
and understood the rules and regulations on voting in the Keys, because
you explained in your letter to the editor (thus to the voters) the
rules and regulations of voting in Keys primaries. I added in my
rejoinder post that voting in the Keys is county-wide for all local
offices. I added that because many times I have spoken with Keys voters
who did not know they could vote in a county commission race lying
outside their county commissioner’s district. For example, if they lived
in District 4 in Marathon, they did not know they could vote in the
District 2 (your, incumbent George Neugent’s and my) county commission
race.
As for what everyone around here you say thinks of me, why don’t you ask
George Neugent what he thinks of what you wrote about me? After you talk
with George, ask the other four county commissioners, Heather
Carruthers, Kim Wigington, Mario Di Gennaro and Sylvia Murphy, our
current Mayor, what they think of what you wrote about me? Then ask
County Attorney Suzanne Hutton and Chief Assistant County Attorney Bob
Shillinger. Then ask County Adminsitrator Roman Gastesi. Then ask Monroe
County Sheriff Bob Peryam. Then ask State Attorney Dennis Ward. Then ask
Key West Mayor Craig Cates. Then ask the Key West city commissioners,
Clayton Lopez, Barry Gibson, Jimmy Weekley, Mark Rossi, Billy Wardlow
and Teri Johnston. Then ask Key West City Manager Jim Scholl. Then ask
Key West City Attorney Shawn Smith. Show all of them what you wrote
about me, and see what they say about it.
Maybe you also should ask Father Stephen Braddock, who heads up Florida
Keys Outreach Coalition based in Key West, and has served on the
Southern Homeless Assistant League (SHAL) Board. Steve met me in 2001,
when I was homeless and speaking at Key West City Commission meetings as
a former lawyer now minister trying to get the city commission and its
police to treat homeless people like they were human beings. Steve and
then Planning Board member Bill Verge later paid my filing fee to run
for Mayor of Key West in 2003, my first sashay into running for office.
Five runs for office I now have made in the Keys, not counting this
year’s District 2 race. I have never liked it. I never will like it. I
do it because my BOD has made it very clear that I will like not running
for office a lot less.
Or maybe you should bypass all of those references above. Maybe you
should just show your letter to Jesus. Maybe he will tell you to sell
all that you have and make alms to the poor with it, and then follow
him. Maybe he will tell you to be homeless like he was, and to have
nothing, want nothing, and be nothing, and have lots of opinions. Maybe
he will tell you about hated. Maybe he will tell you he guided Thomas
Jefferson’s hand when he wrote the Declaration of Independence. Maybe he
will tell you he guided Congress’ hand when it passed the First
Amendment, guaranteeing freedom of speech and freedom of, and from,
religion to all Americans. Maybe he will tell you the pen is more
powerful than the sword, thus the sword defends the pen. Maybe he will
tell you it was he who guided my hand when I wrote the post you
protested way too much about.
Back on this planet, I have not filed to run against you and George
Nugent yet, because my Board of Directors has not told me to file yet.
It looks like they want me to wait until the last moment to file, which
I’ve never done before. Maybe they want me to play with your and other
people’s heads over cross-over voting, and then I file at the last
moment and close the Republican primary to registered Republicans. My
BOD are not going to let you square off just against George Neugent; you
are going to have to take him head-on in a closed Republican primary.
The winner there, in the ensuing general election, will face me and any
Democrat and/or other non-affiliated candidate who files by the
deadline. If there end up being three or more candidates in the general
election, the candidate getting the most votes wins, even if that
candidate receives less than fifty percent of the votes. I received a
little over 7,000 votes in the 2006 District 2 general election. George
Neugent received about 15,000 votes. We were the only candidates in that
race. I know George well enough to tell Republicans in the audiences at
candidate forums to vote for him in this year’s Republican primary.
As for my going back to Birmingham, that’s for my BOD to decide. If you
don’t like them holding me in the Keys, if you don’t like them having me
beat up on you and other people down here, then file your appeal with
them. Here are some of their names: Jesus, Michael, Melchizedek,
Magdalene, the Holy Spirit, The Father.

[Adopt a Pet] A poster complained yesterday about all the things
that SUFA (and apparently the Key West SPCA) requires in order to adopt

their screening process.
While I understand his complaint about the amount of the adoption fee,
that's just part of the problem they're currently facing. The County
just doesn't pay enough for them to run the shelters without meeting the
shortfall with fees, soliciting donations, and doing external
fundraising. |

The AA Basher sounds like alcoholics really ruined
his life. What I know about alcoholics is that one characteristic
alcoholic behavior is that drinking becomes the primary response for
dealing with stress from work, relationships, making decisions and inner
pressure. When people don’t have an alcohol addiction and the pressure
builds up, there is a need to clear one’s head. This can go in a healthy
direction such as going to the gym, taking a boat ride, running, etc.
However, a growing alcohol addiction will be demonstrated
by the fact that the person isn’t finding enough relief in any of the
above activities but turns to alcohol as a way to forget the inner
pressures (albeit temporarily). The more socially acceptable forms of
release just don’t do it for the person. Does this sound like yourself
or someone you know? If so, find a mangrove, live in it and stay away
from the general population. |

[Animal
Shelters] County personnel seem to be having a problem with SUFA's
budget request, which in my mind is totally reasonable since they
operate two shelters and cover more territory than the other two
contractors. Given that they give the SPCA in Key West nearly $400,000
to operate one shelter and cover all of 17 miles of US1 (which in area
probably equates to Big Pine and Big and Little Torch Keys), how can
they deem SUFA's request for $327,800 too high to operate two shelters
and cover 52 miles of US1. SUFA's bid is only $57,800 more than the
County currently pays to the Key Largo shelter (one shelter) which
covers 43 miles of US1. SUFA operates two shelters and covers more
territory than the other two contractors.
Let's really be fair about this. The County wants SUFA to reduce their
bid, meaning they do not want to pay what's fair to SUFA. So, take
$400,000 plus $270,000 plus $300,000 (a reduction to please the County),
add them together for a total of $970,000 and divide that by 4 shelters.
That equals $242,500 for each shelter. That's the fair way to do it,
but when is anything fair in this County? It's time for County
officials to stop playing favorites and do the right thing - acknowledge
that there are four shelters in the County and fund them based on that.
Either give SUFA it's requested and very reasonable $327,800 to operate
two shelters or divide up the money equally for four shelters. |

I
mistakenly labeled Rand Paul as a dentist the other day. I
apologize to dentists everywhere. Rand Paul is actually what we used to
call a "shoemaker", a nitwit pretender with a very thin veneer of
aptitude. He cut and ran from Sunday's scheduled Meet The
Press appearance feigning "exhaustion". No doubt he's bedridden;
curtains drawn, wondering what he's going to do about his depleted
nerve. Through a spokesman the golden boy says he won't be sitting
around any lunch counters pouring that 100-proof Libertarian for a
while. That's too bad. It's great stuff for loosening the tongue but
probably best to avoid when you have an identity crisis. Meanwhile,
fellow shoemaker Sarah Palin, who can relate, sends her deepest
sympathies.
At first I was glad that our friend FTR has been feeling
all vilified and crucified because of all his vilifying and crucifying,
but upon reflection perhaps we have been a bit hard on old Ahab. After
all, he didn't say that our president had an extramarital
affair. He just heard that it might be possible and thought he'd
pass that along -- as a sort of public service. I thought he did an
excellent job describing the physical charms of the possible
co-fornicator. It was really believable, like, who could say no to a
babe like that? And when he calls our president "intellectually
corrupt...an arrogant weasel" why, he's only exercising his red white
and blue freedom of speech and don't you dare try to take it away from
him! It could happen. It's also true that we torment him by not
turning in those term papers on Obama's successes that he's always
demanding, and we really shouldn't be making fun of what is no doubt a
serious drug habit. Yes, I think it's time to exercise some
compassionate liberalism and prove that we do have hearts like when a neocon
cries “uncle” we can lighten up and show mercy. |

[The

now. Activation of National Guard units in select areas, Obama
considering using nuke to stop the oil spill, however, I know that it
was caused to allow the slick to reach the coast. Why? To cut off the
food supply and justify moving residents from the gulf region. Why?
This will allow the Russians, Cubans, and Chinese to invade through East
Florida coastal areas, along the La. Katrina area, and along the
Southern Calif, New Mexico, Az. and Texas border areas. Over 2
million UN troops are already here! They are working with the government
under the title of MJTF--Multi-Jurisdictional Task Force; in virtually
every state; and will appear once the trigger is pulled. The
anti-immigration law passed in AZ was worthless as a benevolent act it
was to inflame and justify riotous acts and division soon to
come. Russian and China have submarines on both coasts and will launch
an attack once all is in place. |

[From the
Right] Yesterday’s poster who wailed on the Tea Party and Arizona’s
SB 1070 was an interesting study. An interesting study in party line
propaganda. One wonders if he/she has taken the time to actually read
Arizona’s new self defense legislation. You can read it at the cite
listed below. The scenario painted by yesterday's Liberal/Progressive
poster could not happen under the provisions of SB 1070. The latest
slogan that has gone viral in Liberal/Progressive propaganda revolves
around the propaganda of “let me see your paper’s” that propaganda scene
is designed to elicit visions of a WW2 German storm trooper victimizing
some innocent citizen who is peacefully walking down a dark street.
Folks that just is not real life! Read the law! The only aim of the new
law is to identify, prosecute and deport illegal immigrants. Further it
is the aim of the law to accomplish that goal in a constitutional
fashion in keeping with American law and custom. Illegal immigrants are
bedeviling Arizona, these are the same illegal immigrants that the
Federal Government protects instead of protecting American
citizens. The Obama admin has declared war on Arizona and all Americans
who abhor illegal immigration. It is especially revealing of character
that his decision is driven by politics. Politics that are in conflict
with American security. The Arizona law could never have passed if the
Federal Government was doing its job. Here’s how it works. First: a
person going about their business in a lawful manner cannot not be
hassled under this law. An illegal Daddy taking his legal or illegal
kids to a store to buy ice cream is immune from the law as long has he
obeys all other laws. That is true even the whole family is wearing
sombreros, serapes, burgas, or lederhosen. Second: If, and only if, his
actions, not his appearance, create a situation where in he is lawfully
approached by a law enforcement officer, i.e. traffic, nuisance, etc..,
can he be delayed. Even at that, the officer can make no inquiry about
the subject’s immigration status unless the officer has reasonable
suspicion that the subject is an illegal alien. If the circumstances
are such that the officer decides that there is “reasonable suspicion”
to believe that the subject is an illegal alien, then the statute
requires that “ a reasonable attempt shall be made, when practicable, to
determine the immigration status of the person”. It’s that simple, and
that direct. The statute and Arizona law enforcement are not the
villains; the villains are those who want to protect illegal
immigration. All we have here is a new law that requires cops to do the
job that the feds should do. There are no brown-shirted thugs lurking
here to snare Jews or freedom fighters. There are only Americans trying
to protect themselves from the ravages of illegal immigration. |

[Key
Largo
Fire Hero!] The
Dagny Johnson Key Largo Hammock Botanical State Park on Card Sound Road in
North Key Largo would have burned to the ground and incinerated much of the
surrounding area last Saturday night if it were not for the bold and gallant
action of John Donnelly.
A heavy piece of equipment was ablaze deep within the park surrounded by
approximately 100 dried out telephone poles, downed trees and brush. This
fire was burning unseen in a secluded section of the park.
I was riding my bicycle with Mr. Donnelly when he was alerted to something
burning. Although the fire and smoke were not yet visible the diesel fumes
drew John's attention and he tracked it down to its source.
I followed his lead as he went into action. He called it in and we cleared a
path as best we could to the smoking inferno. He removed most of the
barriers and obstacles that were blocking access to the fire.
We
then rode 3/4 of a mile to the entrance of the park to await a response. The
Key Largo Fire Department and the Monroe County Sheriff's Department were
absolutely spectacular, as they arrived immediately. John apprised them of
the situation and guided them to the fires' secluded location.
As we all approached this difficult to get to site, in convoy fashion, John
was not done yet, he single-handedly disassembled a large wooden fence that
was blocking the entry of these rescue vehicles.
This beautiful park, along with its surrounding neighborhoods and the
citizens residing therein, were spared the fiery destruction that was headed
their way through the actions of an exceptional man. |

deal for her. And they shouldn't let her out until restitution is paid in
full. I have always voted for you, Andy, because you were a calm voice of
reason, but house arrest is unreasonable to us, the taxpayers. You just lost
my vote. |

[Sloan]
I suppose what bugs me most is the developers (the Bernsteins and the
Walshes) are trying to persuade the Key West City Commission and Mayor to
de facto annex Wisteria island into the city, despite the fact
that, by law, the city can only acquire or annex real estate approved by
registered Key West voters in a referendum. Make no mistake, this is what
the developers are trying to talk the City Commission and Mayor into doing.
If you live in Key West and this blatant scheme doesn’t cause you to want to
get out your tar and feather supplies, then you are part of the problem
we need to tar and feather.
So as not to be accused of twisting what I read in the developers’ Comp Plan
Amendment application, here is the lead paragraph:
Wisteria is a blighted, disturbed, man-made, spoil island created in the
late 1800’s as a dumping ground for abandoned vessels and dredging material.
Notwithstanding the owners’ attempts to the contrary, the property has
continued to serve primarily as an illegal maritime dumping ground. The
property is also regularly used for the related upland activities associated
with the surrounding illegally moored vessels, including dumping, bottom
cleaning, bottom painting, fiberglass repairs and fabrication, dog walking,
camping, etc. Squatters have long inhabited the property contributing to an
extensive history of criminal activity.
After reading that I wondered how the Island still stays afloat with all of
that debris sitting on top of it? I wondered why it didn’t already sink to
the bottom of the sea and all of that debris and waste with it? I also
wondered if the developers got mixed up and confused the criminal activity
that occurs ongoing on Duval Street and throughout Key West with what they
say goes on on Wisteria Island?
Fortunately, we don’t have to rely completely on what the developers put
into their application for a Comp Plan Amendment. Here’s an email I received
yesterday from an eye witness.
Sloan – Don’t believe all you read or see in a movie. Especially a
developer’s movie. I was recently on the island. There is a campsite with
three tents – one is for garbage and could be cleaned up pretty fast by a
few energetic people. Other than that, there is some junk here or there,
mostly sunburned and old. The boats that beached should have been cleaned
up by the owners, or by the state at the request of the owners. Most of the
island is natural – i.e. in a natural state as controlled by mother nature,
without manmade shelters. There are trails here and there, new low growth
finally coming in after the Wilma saltwater over-wash, dead trees yes, but
they provide a home for bugs, which attract birds to feed, finally fall to
the ground (naturally) and provide mulch and home for other organisms. The
high part of the island is quite lush in places – and like the central
mangrove zones, unaffected by Wilma. There is a “meeting area” with benches
around a fire pit, that is fairly orderly. It might make a nice meeting
place for county or city officials for their first look. Probably only
Rossi has been out there in the recent past. It is not a “pretty” island,
but is is a place where 95% of the time any bird or animal can rest, find
food, and not be chased by a dog or child or fool.
Putting a fueling station, a bunch of boats with copper bottom paint,
houses, people, constant activity on the shoreline, etc. will be a disaster
to the little, unspectacular pieces of life – both flora and fauna – that
are part of the chain. Just as the carrying capacity study told us, we
can’t keep expanding into “wild” areas without doing away with the life that
exists there now. It is a tiny piece of the overall puzzle, and there is
absolutely no overriding reason for humans to take that piece out of
circulation at this time.
I can’t help but wonder, if the developers fudged a little about how junked
up Wisteria Island is in their application to amend the Comp Plan, what else
did they fudge on?
I also can’t help but wonder why US Fish & Wildlife, the US Coast Guard, the
Florida Department of Environmental Protection, the Monroe County Sheriff
Office, and Monroe County Code Enforcement have not already straightened out
what the developers claim is wrong with Wisteria Island and the water around
it? If those government agencies, duh-wee, will just do their jobs, won’t
that would pretty much wipe out the basis for the developers’ application?
The fact is, under the existing Comp Plan, Monroe County is supposed to take
care of Wisteria Island. Monroe County is supposed to protect it. Monroe
County is supposed to oppose development on it. The fact is, giving the
developers what they want and claiming that solves the problem will allow
Monroe County to conveniently dodge the fact that it is the cause of the
problem, because it didn’t do its job.
What’s the difference between the County not protecting Wisteria Island, and
the County not enforcing its own building code, and now we have 7,000-plus
illegal downstairs enclosures FEMA is making the County get rid of and
destroy the economic, social, psychological and spiritual fabric of our
community?
What’s the difference between the County not protecting Wisteria Island, and
the US Government not enforcing its own laws and regulations on BP, and now
we have the worst oil disaster in history just a few hundred miles away?
When the Bernsteins purchased Wisteria Island over 40 years ago, they
also purchased legal responsibility to keep the Island clean. If, as the
Bernsteins and Walshes claim in their application to amend the Comp Plan,
they were unable to get the various government agencies to do their part,
then it was their legal responsibility to hire people to do it.
I know this is the law because I have been cited by County Code Enforcement
for things other people brought onto my property when I was not living
there. So I know for a fact Code Enforcement could have cited the Bernsteins
before they teamed up with the Walshes, and could have kept citing them and
taking them to judicial enforcement, if Code Enforcement had wanted to do
that.
Duh-wee, we don’t need any more buck-passing disguised as
development. Duh-wee, we need responsible government.
Let the Bernsteins and the Walshes clean up their own property on their own
dimes.
Ignore the Bernsteins and Walshes’ implied claim that this is a taking and
they are entitled to just compensation if they don’t get their development
application approved.
Let the Bernsteins and the Walshes have the two houses on Wisteria Island
they are entitled to have under the Comp Plan.
Do not let the Bernsteins and the Walshes talk the City of Key West into
de facto annexing Wisteria Island, in violation of its own City Code
that requires voter approval of city acquisition or annexation of real
estate. www.savewisteriaisland.com

[No Music] You won't get FM99.5 or FM92.7 in the middle keys for a
while. They lost a 600 foot tower and it’s going to take some time to
replace it. This comes from the engineer who works on all the local stations
equipment. |

[Alcoholism] Whatever the scenario is, no one talks
about it -- that's the unhealthy crux of the problem. It's a family secret,
and it leaves children with powerful feelings that they learn to repress.
That's what alcoholic parents do for their children. It's not a disease.
It's selfish, depressed behavior and they all ought to die a quick death
instead of the slow alcoholic death that they do and bring family members
along with them. Yes, I'm a child of an alcoholic. No, I'm not over it.
Yes, I married an alcoholic. No, I'm not over it.
I got addicted to hope. People often get addicted to hope--the hope that the
person will change. Before anything can change you first have to deal with
that addiction to hope. You have to start setting limits. You have to figure
out a plan to change things; one that makes sense. Then move through those
steps, not allowing any backpedaling.
If they don't change they will die alcoholics. |

Sloan, Please hurry up and put your
money where your mouth is. Put your name on the ballot and stop threatening,
or maybe you are waiting for the “board of directors” to guide you. Everyone
is tired of hearing what you are going to do. Thank you so much for the
voting lessons. You really honestly think the voters of Monroe County
don't know and understand the rules and regulations on voting on their
county.
What is amazing to me is how you can proclaim to
live/listen by the board of directors, but all that spews out of your mouth
and somehow finds there way to words is, hatred.
If anyone votes for you shame on them. We find you to make a
mockery of the very foundation that this country was founded on. For someone
who really has nothing, wants nothing and is nothing you sure do have a lot
of opinions.
I mean really, why don't you just go back to Birmingham where
you belong and suck off of that system rather than Monroe County? You are
the last person Monroe County needs to take care of, because you really are
not nice to anyone. Most everyone here finds you to be poison. Grow up, get
a life and for God's sake or the board of directors, or who ever you
listen, do something productive! ~Danny@DannyColl.com |

[Anyone
who comes into a shelter and wants a dog is a pretty serious customer]
Obviously you've never worked at a shelter or even knew people who have.
How do they know that you want an animal for a pet? How do they know that
you will not turn around and sell the animal to companies for use as medical
guinea pigs? How do they know that you will not return the pet in a couple
of days because your landlord says, "No pets" after you adopted one?
Animals are in shelters because they've already been abandoned once. They
don't need to be abandoned twice. That is why shelters like to know about
the people taking one of their rescues. As for the money, consider it a
donation. Despite what you think, the County doesn't give shelters enough
money to operate. |

[Developers]
Are you all watching what is going on with Wisteria Island? These developers
are trying to do an around-the-end sneaky play after we passed the 2007
ordinance amending the Key West city charter. If the County allows and
supports what I would call the illegal development of 75 units on the island
since only 2 units are permitted per county land development law, then isn't
it the same as if the City of Key West annexed the island? I mean it is KW's
infrastructure – police and fire; and resources - water, sewer, etc. We
would get none of the tax revenue. I don't want to give our services away
and I don't want their money in the form of taxes. Can you believe they only
pay taxes on the assessed value of $141,000 for 23.41 acres with development
rights for two houses and 15.59 acres of submerged bay bottom? Something is
definitely rotten in Wisteria. www.savewisteriaisland.com

[Dirty Laundry] My dear friend Kurt, in response to
the trashing you tried to dish out, here’s my reply: Mistake 1, mentioning
my girl. You never should have done that. She’s got nothing to do with
anything, but I understand your bitterness. If I had anything in my life
that looked like your girl I’d be bitter too. Mistake 2, our weight loss. We
like to call it watching what you eat and not eating what you watch, unlike
your porky girl friend. Be lucky she hasn’t eaten you yet. Mistake 3,
somehow in your non-detective mind you seem to think we wrote that article
on the CT-- wrong again. If you think I’m the only one that’s on to you
guys’ scam, your not as smart as I thought you were. Mistake 4 beats them
all. That is thinking you know me! I love you, bro, see you soon.

[Soldier

is right up there with BP for me. I don't buy their stuff. The soldier was
right, they are useless and overpriced. I use a lot of printers. I switched
to Brother and can usually find an all-in-one with auto feeder for $99 on
sale and the best part is that I can get ink on eBay for a couple bucks a
cartridge (HP is even putting logic into their cartridges to prevent use if
they've been refilled.) Good shooting soldier! |

The AA basher
believes he/she has the monopoly on truth. He doesn’t. Here’s how those of
us who are getting better see it. It’s easy to recognize the disease of
addiction. Its symptoms are indisputable. Besides an uncontrollable
appetite for drugs, those suffering exhibit self-centered, self-seeking
behavior. When addiction is at its peak of activity, it comes with a great
deal of pain. Sufferers relentlessly judge themselves and others, and spent
most of their time worrying or trying to control outcomes.
Just as the disease of addiction is evidenced by definite
symptoms, so is recovery made manifest by certain obvious signs: a tendency
to think and act spontaneously, a loss of interest in judging or
interpreting the actions of anyone else, an unmistakable ability to enjoy
each moment and frequent attacks of smiling. |
[13
Year old Kid Climbs Everest] Jordan Romero, the 13-year-old Californian
teenager with the looks of a budding pop star, silenced his detractors by
reaching the top of Mt Everest after almost four years of hard training.
Romero, who plans to conquer the other highest peaks in six other
continents, is now the youngest Everest hero. The record was earlier held by
Ming Kipa Sherpa, a 15-year-old schoolgirl who had climbed Mt Everest in
2003 from the same northern route via Tibet that Ming Kipa took to
circumvent the age restriction imposed by the Nepali authorities.
Roughly 1 in 10 climbers who attempt Everest die doing so.
Some parents would focus on the 90% who survive, others the 10% mortality
rate. The kid trained 4 years for this: that suggests a rather substantial
level of motivation. Thus, to all appearances, he was well-trained to make
this attempt. There certainly have been climbers with less training who have
successfully climbed this peak. I would be far more harsh on the parents if
it appeared the lad was pushed to live THEIR dream or THEIR pursuit of 15
minutes of fame. |

[AA
Basher]
In the first step all alcoholics are told that they need to
admit their lives were unmanageable. In step two they come to believe that
they are insane and only a higher power is somehow going to make them well
again.
Hmmm, let me see. So I walk through the door of A.A. and you want me to
entrust my sobriety to someone who believes they were insane and could not
manage their own life? Worse still, that I can believe in the power of the
AA group as a whole to make and keep me better? Remember that everyone in
the meeting room admitted they were nuts and their own lives were
unmanageable. Yet if I use my own thought, reason or will-power to stay
sober on my own I am somehow deluding myself and in mortal danger of
relapse? You can never use your own reason and logic in AA. They have a
slogan in AA “look where your best thinking got you” that should be changed
to “look where your not thinking got you, into A.A.”
Going to a different meeting room in AA is like going to a
different McDonalds. They all serve the same crap; only the counter help is
different. |

The

[Nuking
Oil Leak] Adding radioactive contamination, which lasts for over
a thousand years. I don’t think that’s true any more. Hiroshima and
Nagasaki were both thriving cities just forty years after being nuked. How

Russia will be drilling soon between Florida and Cuba and
if they get a leak they will most certainly nuke it. What then? |

Hair booms are not being used because they retain
too much water and sink. Straw is the best answer. |
|
Key West residents are
organizing their own mitigation efforts to the BP oil catastrophe,
creating hair booms which absorb oil without destroying the hydrosphere.
Meanwhile, on Friday, Governor Charlie Crist declared a State of Emergency
for Monroe County (which includes the Keys), and Lee, Collier, Miami-Dade,
Broward and Palm Beach counties. Citizen Emergency
Response Team Services (CERTS) has met three times for emergency planning
and to provide information to volunteers. They’re currently developing a
Remedial Action Master Plan to set goals and priorities. Also, the Florida
Keys Environment Coalition created a website to track volunteers and post
information: http://www.KeysSpill.com
.
All salons, groomers, wool and alpaca fleece farmers, and
individuals, can sign up to donate hair, fur, fleece, feathers, nylons, and
funding. Key West residents would also like to buy hydrocarbon testing
kits. Hanby sells them for $900 a pop. Residents are considering taking
24-hour HAZWOPER training, at $575 per person. This will certify potential
BP employees working on clean up. Over a hundred people have taken HAZMAT
volunteer training for $100 (a four-hour class). BP gave Key West $10,000
toward that cost, which is “the limit of their commitment,” according to a
CERTS organizer.
We do have reports, however, that those working on the
spill in Louisiana have become ill from the toxic fumes. Although the EPA
issued a directive requiring BP to identify and use a less toxic and more
effective dispersant (other than 2-butoxyethanol), BP refused.
Hurricane season is upon us in South Florida, and is being
watched very closely. A low pressure system has developed north of the
Bahamas, which has the potential of entering the Gulf and driving the oil to
the Keys. Dr Jeff Masters writes: “The counter-clockwise flow of air around
this low will probably lead to northeasterly winds over the oil spill region
Tuesday through Wednesday, keeping oil away from the coasts of Alabama and
the Florida Panhandle, but pushing oil southwards towards the Loop Current.”
However, updates posted this evening “indicate an almost
stationary motion. The tropical wave mentioned this morning has pretty much
lost all convection, and appears to have diminished quite a bit.” |
|
BP
is sticking with its dispersant choice, Corexit. Even amid
environmental concerns. |

BP stands for British Petroleum which bought AMOCO, an American
company. Boycott BP! |

They gripe about their freedoms being taken away, yet they certainly don't

acolyte and demand to see their papers! Ha! Guess we all better find our
birth certificates and keep it with us at all times. That's the direction
that they want America to go. They hold up signs that compare President
Obama to Hitler, yet they are the ones who support this Arizona law. Nazis
stopped people all the time for looking Jewish. According to their new
hero, Rand Paul, businesses can decide who they want to serve and who they
do not want to serve. That's okay with the Tea Party acolytes, as long as
they are not the ones denied entrance to the barroom. God forbid if anyone

[From the Right]
It’s a privilege to be able to climb up on the Coconut Telegraph soap box
and tell the readers just about whatever is on our minds. I wonder how many
folks who post here are aware that every month about 70,000 sets of eyes
read what we write. That’s not shabby at all. It is a big audience, worthy
of respect. It’s no secret to regular readers that this writer is no fan of
the Obama administration. It’s more than obvious that there are a lot of
CT posters who are of a different view. God Bless them. In my postings I
attempt to inform and editorialize with the intent of convincing the reader
that my point of view is well thought out and is worthy of belief. Posters
like me, try to back up our views with citations. It is enlightening that
those who support the Obama administration only rarely post an opposing
point of view. They rarely try to convince. Rather, they attack the style
of my postings or engage in personal attacks. From my point of view, that is
a very good thing. It gives us a long hard look at the quality of thought of
the Obama supporters. It is very enlightening. These folks are not able to
refute the message so they must refute the messenger. I have come to believe
that the attacks on “FTR” and posters of a like mind, in microcosm,
demonstrates the shallowness of the Obama admin and its followers. I believe
that the FTR critics are but a microcosm of the Obama supporters. We see it
played out in the media on a daily basis. We see that personal vilification
and persecution of folks who act against the Obama agenda are the knee jerk
reaction of the administration. Usually there is precious little push back
against the ideas proposed by the Obama critics, just personal attack. In
the last few days there have been serious postings about the perfidy of Mr.
Obama’s Financial Reform Act, about the failures of the Obama admin in
regulating BP and the admin’s failure to prevent the Deep Horizon spill. And
then it’s abject failure to minimize the damage. We’ve had postings critical
of illegal immigration and Mr. Obama’s war on Arizona when he should be at
war with illegal immigration. The list is longer. And yet, the Obama
supporting CT posters have treated us to actual, genuine, no joke,
gibberish, yep, true gibberish in support of Mr. Obama. Now, that is apt!
We’ve received a lecture on 19th literature. We’ve read several
foolish factual mistakes. And of course a slew of silly insults. It’s clear
to me that most of the Obama supporters who post here lack any real
understanding of the Obama philosophy or his agenda. If they did, they would
try and convince us that he is right. I believe that these folks are a
microcosm of Obama supporters everywhere. It’s clear that these folks are
totally enamored with style rather than substance. For this writer, that
too is a good thing. Simply because the thousands of CT readers who are not
CT posters are treated to the spectacle of what Obama supporters are really
all about. For now, being an Obama supporter is still “stylish”. Fashions
and style change, the truth does not. |

In response to George and Allison's,
bigpinebooger@comcast.net's [Bar Scam] Coconut Telegraph Post.
...This is my very Latin American friend, and fellow musician, ex
old drummer, George Fonseca and his new Girlfriend of a few weeks or
months, Allison, she's obviously typing the post via his comcast
account,
bigpinebooger@comcast.net... which he forgets That I helped him
with in the past, who pulled in a late for the gig on Friday night
for Moose & the Bulletproof Band, at Looe Key Tiki Bar, Just read on
remember Happy Hour is from 4pm-7pm firm, and the computer changes
the prices automatically!!! Their Bartab started at 7:02pm,
"Have you ever been to the Looe Key Tiki Bar and thought your tab
was a bit much? I have read about it many times from many different
people complaining that their tabs are being padded. I sat back the
other day and watched it all unfold first hand. Here’s how it
works."
Yes, you two, when I drink as much you did and I lose my mind, too,
I was on stage getting already to play blues all night, his new
girlfriend and I have known each other since she worked at Mangoes,
700 Duval Street in 1994, I do know her very very well from Key
West, and as Rock n Roll as I was there!!! We still ran in different
cliques and circles of friends, both of these people are no
strangers to me at all...
so shes lugging drum gear into the bar, because he's late so she's
helping, very cool, on the way in from the last trip from the big
blue pick-up truck, she stopped by the nearest table to the side
door ...to say hello, meet and greet as we all do when walking into
familiar establishments with familiar people, and George yelled her
name from across the bar onstage and she came a running, he spoke
quickly and quietly to her she turned around went back to the table
and waited for a waitress, (Dumb Mistake #1) She didn't go to the
Bar!!! So I guess she didn't get his Coors Light to him on stage
quick enough because he growled at again, so she turned around and
backed him up now two Coors Lights on stage for him, she started his
tab at 7:02pm,
She continued to walk right up on stage all through all four of the
sets bringing him Coors Light all night... But, by the end of every
set set, there were six to eight empty bottles on the railing behind
him, on breaks she went on stage and cleaned up all the bottles, as
she did every set, and continued to walk right on stage, throughout
the whole night, while buying rounds for George, Herself and
Friends...,
It gets way better, so Allison continued to distribute Coors Light
to Drummer George like she was feeding a twelve ounce long neck
machine gun a six pack magazine at a time man!!!, people he's
drinking over a six pack an hour, okay, we only play for 45 minutes
at a time, she's thrown bottles away six to eight at a time between
sets, and hes nailing two beers and a shot maybe on breaks, he's
starting not to fare well at all, for four and half hours of time,
people!!!
"They will add beers, shots, bottles of water, food and or charge
you regular price during happy hour. When your done and ask for your
bill they hand you a receipt and tell you the amount. That’s the
beauty of the scam. By giving you a register receipt it makes it
look like an honest mistake if you catch it. Most people just pay
the amount and not look at the itemized receipt out of courtesy; and
who can really remember how many drinks they had or bought for
friends anyway? Why should you have to? That’s what they prey on. If
you happen to catch it they simply say oops my bad, with a smile of
course, and remove it from your tab. If you don’t catch them they
pocket the money. If they serve a hundred people a night and clip
4-10 dollars a piece, plus tips and pay … do the math."
It does not work that way at all now it did at Mangoes on Duval!!!
Now I gotta say this, The computers' prices are hard coded into a
touch screen button with the name of the product on it, like, "Coors
Light" and "Jeigermister Shot", Kelly the GM is the only one who can
change anything on that computer, the touch buttons are hard coded
to the server clock, there are no prices, no numeral entry screen,
...just buttons, which is updated by Chicago's atomic clock, just
like your bank or your favorite websites!!! (Dumb Mistake #2)
Allison, was that's the way the old POS computers at Mangoes used to
work, in the early ninties, dear, before safe and reliable
encryption was finally standardized, not now, not any secure POS
system now!!!
Back to our story...So the tired waitress, whom had been working for
a while and her shift was now coming to an end, she asked if they
would like to pay the tab (and tip her for her service,
obviously!!!) so Allison pointed at George, all the way across the
restaurant she walks from kitchen window to stage, then BOOM!!! like
shotgun went off he throws down his bass drum case to the concrete
floor, George looked at the total on the guest check and started
yelling insults out loud at the waitress, like he was cut or shot,
making a slurring, drunken, sniffling scene, flying snot and spit,
waving hands and fingers pointing in all directions started yelling
he was over-charged, Now I must say this, The Computers' prices are
hard coded into a touch screen button with the name of the product
on it, like, "Coors Light" and "Jeigermister Shot", hard coded to
the server clock, there are no prices, no numeral entry screen,
...just buttons, which is updated by Chicago's atomic clock, just
like your bank or your favorite websites!!!
"I have seen that mistake happen there too many time and it’s never,
ever in favor of a costumer. It seems to be spearheaded by the big
chick behind the bar whose long haired boyfriend drinks for free all
night compliments of us. When you have a management that’s in the
kitchen all day and never ever comes out at night and whose prior
experience is as a landscaper, the staff is pretty much free to do
whatever they want."
Moose, Marcel and I just stopped in our tracks and couldn't believe
it, aside from you, we are trying to establish and maintain good
music business relationships with the few clubs in the area we can
perform in, so out from behind the bar comes my favorite super hero,
Jena, to fix whatever is wrong, She said, "You don't treat one of my
waitresses like that, George", the waitress really thought George
was going to hit her, she put her hands up defensively, She was
really freaked!!! and then Jena told George and Allison, "To pay
their tab and leave" not wanting keep the waitress any longer or
stress her out more, She was in tears, and not wanting to stop the
fun, she put on a wounded big girl smile, and went home, since that
incident she's left the keys and went back home!!! and Everyone
Knows Jena Charges Me For Everything, of course while Allison was
writing this, if anything was said about that to you, you'd would
have stopped her, but I'm sure you were well hungover and not
thinking clearly!!! she's so new to this neighborhood she doesn't
know, No Big problem, It was easy to catch!?!, George you were taken
care of on Friday Night as quietly and quickly as "you" aloud, the
waitress was gone, kitchen was closing... back to normal, got to
love this public forum forced straightening out of facts, I know I
do...
"I will not go back or recommend it to anybody. I go to Parrotdise
now. The owner is a wonderful person; the staff is warm, honest and
friendly."
and thats the only place George the Drummer or is it DJ George, has
a gig on Saturdays, every band has replaced you, sir, every other
gig but that one, is gone, Sir, I totally understand
your downtrodden attitude, You Need To Take Some Down Time, just to
reflect on just the last year if not the last decade, I imagine lots
of things have changed for you, recently, ...My Brother, ...My
Sister, You need to Slow down, you two and I are now at an impass,
an ethical and moral impass, ...I Agree to Disagree!
"It’s way more beautiful and the place doesn’t reek of BC powder."
(Dumb Mistake #3) Final Straw, The place doesn't reek of BC powder
when everyone else walks into it, in fact it never does, sir, it's
the inside of your face that smells that way, don't you notice your
truck, your house, and your amazing shrinking girlfriend, smell the
same way, George, you started that crap here, ...you do have to
work, play and live here, ...Bubba, don't go and cut your nose off
to spite your face!!! It's got nothing to do with you screwing up,
(Flying Sniffles and Snots) the difference of your check is only $2
by the time you figure this out you'll relize that your warm welcome
has worn quite thin enough not concern ourselves with your private
drama, if you owe someone else money at the bar, and you drank it
all, it's your fault, BigPineBooger, no one elses!!!
I am Kurt Gooch or GigFlorida at every network on the planet, So
anyone anywhere can find me, I'm still your friend chillout for a
while I really don't want to see you around for a month or so, just
stay away from us, clean up and we'll see ya in a few weeks, and
fatten her up!, she's lost her rump and bust line!!! Love Ya!!!

Has anyone noticed the radio station
changes?? US1 radio is still up and running as normal (Thank
Goodness) but, is 99.5 merging with 103.1? I stop being able to pick
up 99.5 and 92.7 around mile marker 15 and cannot pick up 103.1
until Summerland. RudeGirl Rudy I hear on 93.5 now, is she gone from
92.7??
This has been going on for months now,
does anyone know what's going on??

Slide Show |
| I've been away from BPK for a
while, wondering if Capt George Rockett Sr. is still
around??????????? |
| I wonder
why all of a sudden there seems to be a bunch of people claiming
to be veterans that never were? Political figures, people trying
to get into veterans banquets and some folks that just sit next
to you in a restaurant or tavern and tell you stories about when
they were supposedly in.Im not getting it.You can usually tell
the frauds but I just let them go on and listen to their fake
stories and shake my head. |

How to fix a HP
Printer, Soldier Style
THIS SOLDIER IN IRAQ HAD AN HP PRINTER WHICH QUIT WORKING.
HE CONTACTED HP TECH SUPPORT FOR
HELP TO FIX IT.
HP TOLD THE SOLDIER THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO PAY THEM FOR THE
ADVICE.
WATCH THIS 60 SECOND VIDEO FOR HIS
RESPONSE TO THEM.
Imagine how mad he would
have got if he saw what the price of the HP ink cartridges cost.
Glad to see HP get a most deserving
reccomendation! They sure got enough of my money.
Hope this video shows ANOTHER reason why Americans WOULD RATHER DIE
THAN GIVE UP OUR GUNS.
The United Nations wants to put world
pressure on America to ban guns. Like we're friggin Iraq or
something.
This American soldier just showed HP that 5 bucks worth of ammo and
a post on youtube cost another robber to lose a whole lot more.
For the 29.95 HP tried to steal from him, they're going to lose
millions of dollars. Who's the smarter one now.

MORNING MAGAZINE, Friday
morning Andy Griffith was on with Bill Becker. Has Andy been bought
by Monique Acevido? He sure wants a light sentence for her. She
stuck it to our schools and our students, she needs it stuck to her.
Jail for sure, and mayby Andy should go with her if he is defending
her. Andy just lost my confidense.
And he had the Balls to call
everybody that responds in writing a coward. He said to call him.
Good luck on getting through. Screw him too.

Re: "I'll
wait until you’re not home and shoot all the iguanas you attract
with the food you provide for them." Sounds more like an
offended child who was denied his favorite toy than an "Iguana
Killer".
I hope you realize that it is illegal to hunt in a direct
vicinity of human dwellings. It is even more illegal to hunt on
private property without written permission of such property's
owner. If you were not aware of that - now you are, please keep
this in mind. Here is the relevant quote from Florida law:
"Armed
trespass, s. 810.09(2)(c): If the offender is armed with a
firearm or other dangerous weapon during the commission of the
offense of trespass on property other than a structure or
conveyance, he or she is guilty of a felony of the third degree,
punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s. 775.084.
Trespass by projectile,
s. 810.09(2)(h): Any person who in taking or attempting to take
any animal described in s. 379.101(19) or (20), or in killing,
attempting to kill, or endangering any animal described in s.
585.01(13) knowingly propels or causes to be propelled any
potentially lethal projectile over or across private land
without authorization commits trespass, a felony of the third
degree, punishable as provided in s. 775.082, s. 775.083, or s.
775.084. For purposes of this paragraph, the term "potentially
lethal projectile" includes any projectile launched from any
firearm, bow, crossbow, or similar tensile device."
I advise all "IKC" members to become familiar with the *laws* of
the state of Florida and uphold them, as we all should. Please
hunt legally, and follow FWC commission rules.
On my part, I will make sure to bring any attempt by you or
anyone else to perform any activities that violate the law to
the attention of law enforcement. I will also follow through on
my reports to make sure they are appropriately handled.

I can NOT
believe what I just heard on the Morning Magazine. Rumors are true
that Andy G is suggesting house arrest for Monique A. You are
kidding me!!! Save the tax payers the cost of jail? I don't think
so. Is he nuts!!! Did she save the tax payers anything? The kids?
She needs to go to jail for at LEAST 10 years.
