[Must Be A Cat Lover] Someone has dropped rat poison along the Venture Out fence (dog walk). One dog is dead, six are sick! This is very disturbing. I do not understand why people would want to hurt innocent animals like that?

[Gun Nuts] Michael  Bloomberg poses a $50 million challenge to the NRA. He’s going to build a nationwide grass-roots network to motivate voters who feel strongly about curbing gun violence. It’s about time someone took on the NRA. Link

[Kill Switch] Cellphone theft is so rampant that NY’s Attorney General has called for kill switches to be installed on all new phones. The problem with that is hackers could “kill” a million phones at one shot! In the meantime install the free app Prey on all devices you own including laptops. Free Download

Happy LSD Day. 71 years ago today LSD was discovered by the Swiss. (There must be a joke there somewhere!)

[Illegal Aliens] The Obama administration has deported about 2 million illegal aliens so far. Yesterday’s poster got confused by the word deported. Turning people from the border is not deporting. They are two different things.

[What Safety?] China opens record breaking 4,000 ft long bridge, and 1102 feet above the ground! This guy’s just casually walking along sweeping it clean without a safety harness. OSHA would have a fit if that were in the US.

[War Drums] NATO is stepping up its support for its member nations by sending ships and air patrols over Ukraine in a “training exercise” designed to boost the confidence of it’s allies.

I am sure the the person who denied sea level rise also checks out the polar ice cape on a regular basis, watches Fox News, and does not believe in evolution, but I am aware of what fishing in the sun for 30 years can do to the brain.

case16[My New TV Service] Hundreds of channels, movies–all on demand for the price of Netflix and Hulu, about $18/month. Notice the media cabinet is completely empty except for a $69 Roku streaming device (no monthly charge for Roku). I wouldn’t hold much hope for the typical cable TV service in the future.

This is from 2012: “Netflix and Hulu are convincing millions of cable, satellite and telco subscribers to cut the cord and dive into video streaming. That’s the conclusion of a report released this week by the Convergence Consulting Group, which finds that 2.65 million Americans canceled TV subscriptions between 2008-2011 in favor of lower-cost internet subscription services or video platforms. Convergence co-founder Brahm Eiley projects that the number of people opting out of TV subscription services will begin to slow in 2012 and 2013. Part of the problem, Eiley argues, may be the rising price tag for streaming rights to programming which could cause fiscal fits for Netflix.”

psycadelic close-up[Today In History LSD Was Discovered] Basel, Switzerland, Albert Hoffman, a Swiss chemist working at the Sandoz pharmaceutical research laboratory, accidentally consumes LSD-25, a synthetic drug he had created in 1938 as part of his research into the medicinal value of lysergic acid compounds. After taking the drug, formally known as lysergic acid diethylamide, Dr. Hoffman was disturbed by unusual sensations and hallucinations. In his notes, he related the experience:

“Last Friday, April 16, 1943, I was forced to interrupt my work in the laboratory in the middle of the afternoon and proceed home, being affected by a remarkable restlessness, combined with a slight dizziness. At home I lay down and sank into a not unpleasant, intoxicated-like condition characterized by an extremely stimulated imagination. In a dreamlike state, with eyes closed (I found the daylight to be unpleasantly glaring), I perceived an uninterrupted stream of fantastic pictures, extraordinary shapes with intense, kaleidoscopic play of colors. After some two hours this condition faded away.”

After intentionally taking the drug again to confirm that it had caused this strange physical and mental state, Dr. Hoffman published a report announcing his discovery, and so LSD made its entry into the world as a hallucinogenic drug. Widespread use of the so-called “mind-expanding” drug did not begin until the 1960s, when counterculture figures such as Albert M. Hubbard, Timothy Leary, and Ken Kesey publicly expounded on the benefits of using LSD as a recreational drug. The manufacture, sale, possession, and use of LSD, known to cause negative reactions in some of those who take it, were made illegal in the United States in 1965.

[Sloan] I started writing into the CT a little while back because of the grinder pump war. I sometimes sent in other stuff, which you didn’t attribute it to me, either, however some of it probably was recognized by some CT readers as from me. You recently attributed to me my replies to direct attacks, and even more recently you deleted a great deal of what I replied to an attack, and omitted completely what I replied to another attack.

I have seen for a while that you cherry pick from my daily posts at goodmorningkeywet.com and goodmorningfloridakeys.com, and you use it on the CT without attributing it to me. You did that in yesterday’s CT. I don’t mind that, but I wonder how the Sloan-bangers feel about it. Do they not realize even yet that I am something they use to not deal with their own problems, which I imagine are as fierce as the venom they spit at me.

If they had my problems, they’d be in the cemetery. Me, I feel like I’m in a grinder pump the angels built to run through me.

[Shallow People] I find most people who write on the internet are lacking imagination and only want to complain like children. Once in a while you come across someone who actually has something to say. Most of the time they are only trying to make themselves seem superior by insulting other’s intelligence.

gocart16The people running Crane Hammock just aren’t going far enough in their efforts to make that nature preserve self-supporting. Installing zip lines will allow paying customers to scream as they fly through the canopy. However, this proposal totally ignores the potential of ground-based opportunities for generating revenue. I think that they should expand and improve the trails that run through the preserve and then rent Go-Karts to visitors who could then enjoy nature by driving through it. This additional revenue stream will also provide employment for those lucky Marathoners who will be needed to sell tickets, maintain the Go-Karts, and repair the trails. Everybody wins.

——-FEEDBACK AND POSTERS OPINIONS——-

ONCE AGAIN WE HEAR FROM THE IRATE GUNNY WHO WROTE:   “ Hmmmm FTR, well well. I Love the “irate critic” ‘label’. Your, “One more thing: Gunny, the Marines that I am proud to know, consider silly third grade name calling beneath the dignity of a Marine.”, was a nice attempt on your part to throw an underhanded snipe. Let’s flesh a few things out, shall we?

Firstly, when one send this (the html form reply) through a smart phone, one would realize (you apparently have not), that it’s a tiny screen, rife for errors. You cannot auto-correct, cut and paste, check for grammar etc etc.

Have at the snipe for spelling and grammar. It shows how petty you can be and are. It also highlights the arrogance on your part.

Secondly, you totally avoided admitting my statement of fact regarding the Bush administration. I noticed that. Did you? You did a stellar job of reciting history, that, I will give you props for.

The Eisenhower GOP is NOT the GOP of today. If you actually believe it is, you sir are off your rocker.

Shall we discuss this: “The only thing that the Republican Party is seeking is that ONLY American citizens be permitted to vote. We demand an honest vote.”?

Surely you aren’t that myopic! That’s the only thing the Republican Party is seeking? Oh jeez. An “honest vote”? Have you no integrity?  Does Gerrymandering sound familiar? Care to deny that this state for example as goes the rest of the states for that matter are so GERRYMANDERED that it’s almost impossible for an incumbent party  to ever ‘lose’ in those districts?

Come on FTR, it isn’t the PEOPLE who gerrymandered those districts. Is it? It’s called ‘tit for tat’ and political tactics. And you’re going to sit and tell us that the “only thing the Republican Party wants is an honest vote”. Now that is downright the most comic thing I’ve ever heard!

Now let’s go on to civil rights of TODAY and the Republican Party standing on those issues. Let’s start with women. Why is the GOP so staunchly OPPOSED to equal pay for equal work when it comes to women? Why is it that the GOP is so strongly “LESS government” but wants total control of women’s reproductive and personal lives? Let’s talk about that FTR. Forget the GOP talking points. Let’s have an HONEST question and HONEST answer debate on those subjects.

Let’s talk about GLBT lives and the GOP’s obsession with controlling and ostracizing that group. I stated the Republican Party was the deniers of “civil rights and dignity” TODAY, not  fifty five or hundred years ago that I commented on and you denied.

Let’s talk about the GOP obsession with “religious freedoms” enshrined in our constitution that are only for ‘certain’ (according to our GOP plank) religions and the ostracizing of those groups.

Now print this in its entirety as it was drafted on a desktop not a cell phone. Hence you cannot nitpick about ‘grammar and spelling’.

Can you honestly discuss these issues without using GOP talking points and canned party responses? Lets use the Republican Party platform itself for proof. Yes?

FTR, the retired Peace Officers and Marines I know consider nitpicking  dodging and underhanded snipes beneath the dignity of a retired Peace Officer.   Gunny E”

FTR’s RESPONSE: Once again Gunny offers only bluster, no proof as to his assertions. When we sift through Gunny’s name calling, animus, and personal prejudice, we have precious few items of fact to discuss. Nonetheless, let’s try.

First: Did Bush lie? Even though Gunny made no mention of the Iraq war, I would imagine that that is what Gunny is referring to.  Personally I don’t believe that Bush lied. I believe that he truly believed the intell concerning Iraq and its WMD capability. He was given that intell as was his General staff, who also believed it. Colin Powell believed it. Condoleeza Rice believed it. Hillary believed it. Nonetheless, later, parts, not all, were found to be in error.

A lie is a purposeful statement specifically designed to mislead.  That’s not what happened. Please recall that the Congress had exactly the same intell and nearly unanimously voted for the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions.  Hillary voted for both wars. And never forget that for the last 2 years of the Bush admin, the Democrats had full control of Congress and could have ended both wars simply by defunding them. The Democrats in Congress agreed with Bush about the necessity of both wars. Bush and the Democrats in Congress were absolutely right in eradicating Sadam. He was a brutal murderous dictator akin to Stalin and Hitler, who eradicated tens of thousands of human beings.

Second: Gunny wrote of “Gerrymandering”. It is an invention that dates back to 1812 and is named after Governor Elbridge Gerry of Massachusetts .  It is the practice of redrawing Congressional district lines so as to favor the party currently in power at the end of each Census. There is an excellent expose of Gerrymandering to be found at Link

That article reveals that of the 10 most (worst) gerrymandered Congressional districts in the US, 9 currently have a Democrat Representative, one seat is unfilled.

Even though Gunny attempts to change the subject, let’s not forget that gerrymandering has nothing to do with voter fraud. Simply put the Republicans demand that each qualified person get one vote and one vote alone. We also believe that only American citizens have the right to vote in American elections. The Democrats oppose any meaningful action against voter fraud. Generally they claim that to so do is a violation of the fraudulent and honest voter’s civil rights.

Third: Gunny wrote of women’s rights, accusing the GOP of being opposed to equal pay for equal work.  Apparently he does not know that the women in Obama’s office make substantially less than their male counterparts. Nor does he know that under Democrat governance there are more people (mostly women) on food stamps than women with jobs. Nor does he know that under Democrat governance, the unemployment rate for women is higher than for men. Contrary to Gunny’s belief, Republicans do support equal pay for equal work. Check out the follow video on the subject. Link

Not a single Republican that I know has any objection to any woman using birth control. Most Republicans oppose abortion on moral grounds, but most (I believe) feel as long as it is the law of the land it should not be denied. Nearly all Republicans are united in their opposition to taxpayer money being spent on contraceptives or abortions.

Fourth. Gunny accused the GOP of ostracizing the GLBT community. He claims that the GOP is attempting to “control” that community. In fact there is an article in the ATLANTIC MAGAZINE with the headline “Republicans Are Driving the Momentum for Gay Marriage.” The article can be found at Link

No, Deer Friends, the ATLANTIC is not a Republican organ. From politicians and donors to the party rank and file, a change of heart in the GOP is a major factor in the issue’s increasing public acceptance.

Fifth: Gunny wrote a confusing paragraph that seems to suggest that he believes that a GOP “plank” advocates for religious freedom for only “certain” religions. Once again, I challenge Gunny to prove that assertion. I believe that I’m fairly well versed on Republican beliefs and writings, and I know of no such GOP advocacy for religious persecution.

Sixth: Gunny demanded that I use the GOP “platform” as source material.

Currently there is no formalized GOP party platform, nor will there be one until the 2016 general election. However, the 2012 GOP platform is to be found at Link

If you have an interest in seeing just how wrong Gunny is, I urge you to read it.

Gunny condemns the use of GOP “talking points”, but at the same time he spreads Democrat boiler plate propaganda like a dervish. Initially I thought that Gunny simply was a political misanthrope, but now I believe him to be a deeply partisan Democrat loyalist.  Oh well, nobody’s perfect.

Gunny has had two bites at the apple, two strikes. Unless he decides to drop the insults, and to provide proof of his accusations, it’s not likely that we’ll see Gunny again here.

                                                         ————-FTR’s BOTTOM OF THE PAGE———

Very recently Steve Israel, prominent Democrat legislator stated the Republicans are racist. We all know that that slander is a major part of the Democrats play book in trying to paint the Republicans as racists.

But, just the other day an infuriating and tragic event occurred in Overland Kansas. Two persons of the Jewish faith were brutally murdered by a rabid anti Semite and longtime KKK member. The shooter was Glenn Miller, Jr. (or “Frazier Glenn Miller”). Miller is a hard core racist and a flaming anti Semite, and a Democrat.

Yet another bullet point in his resume is that he is a Democrat running for the Democratic Party nomination in the 7th district of Missouri, as of this writing, he has no challenger. 4/14/14, 7:10PM. Update:  Even the KKK has condemned Democrat racist/anti-Semite/Congressional Candidate Frazier Glenn Miller. Check out the Daily Kos story on the episode. Link
