plate7I had to go to D.M.V in Key Largo this week to transfer title and get plates for my car. Ouch! the D.M.V is a painful experience to say the least. I just wanted to thank the woman behind the counter for not only being professional but for also being a decent human being. If it’s not bad enough to have to give up all your hard earned money to the government we also don’t need a bad attitude from a public servant when we are paying their salaries. This women is setting standards for which she should be commended. Not only did I leave with my plates I also left with a smile.

I hope her attitude becomes contagious because they can all learn a lesson from her. P.S My brother-in-law said she called him “gorgeous” when he left. I just wanted to tell him she called me the same thing. I think she was just being nice.

uke6Ukelele night at Coconuts is this Wednesday May 8th at 7 PM. If you have ever wanted to play a string instrument try a ukulele. They are so easy & so much fun to play. The folks from Bone Island Band will have many to choose from. There will be several folks that can answer any questions and share info about the ukulele. You will be playing songs in a few minutes. Remember, nothing changes if nothing changes. Stop by the NUT. It’s a hoot.

[Local writers absent in literary seminar lineup. What a sad state of affairs] The 32nd annual Key West Literary Seminar is coming in January 2014: The Dark Side, exploring the mystery, crime and thriller genres. Two sessions, 34 crime fiction writers from around the U.S. and the United Kingdom, and not a single writer from Key West.

The Key West Literary Seminar is a celebration of Key West’s amazing literary heritage. From the legends — Ernest Hemingway and Tennessee Williams — to the much longer list of talented writers who have called this tiny island home, either full-time or for the “season.” Elizabeth Bishop, John Hersey, Philip Caputo, Judy Blume, Thomas McGuane, Robert Stone, Ann Beattie, Tom Corcoran, Joy Williams, John Leslie and Alison Lurie are just some of the names on that list.

Inviting Key West-based writers to the Key West Literary Seminar has always been a bit of a mixed bag. But most years there has been at least one Key West writer on the list.

So why is 2014 different? Especially since there are enough Key West crime fiction writers to fill a recently published anthology, Murder in Key West, edited by Shirrel Rhoades.

The Key West Literary Seminar is a spectacular literary event with an international reputation. I only wish the organizers were more supportive of the talent that resides on the palm-shaded streets of the town that gives the seminar its name.

[Mosquito Spraying] Bring back the yellow and white DC-3s then no more pellets. The old 3s flew so fast and low it not only would vaporize any pellets, it would peel paint on your house walls and vibrate any unsecured glassware onto the floor which might fall on mosquitoes inside the house and kill them. They were a true old Keys memory and I miss them.

[Coincidence?] On May 7, 1915 a German U-boat sank  the RMS Lusitania, killing 1,198  off the coast of Ireland starting WWII.  Coincidentally on this same date in 1945, Germany unconditionally surrendered and withdrew from World War  II.

[Mosquito Panic] Don’t panic (yet) the chopper just drops B.T. pellets. They are lethal to skeeters but totally harmless to humans and pets

[Kidnapped] ‘I’m here, I’m free now’: Listen to the dramatic 911 call Amanda Berry made moments after she was freed.

Three women who had been held captive in a home in Cleveland, Ohio, for about ten years are now free. Police say three brothers have been arrested in connection with their disappearance. Authorities say one women broke free with the help of a passerby returning from McDonalds who was able to break into the house, free her and call 911. Link

[Graph showing tornado trends] Please draw the line showing the trending increase. I am going to post a NOAA graph every day showing the trends in extreme weather. You can then acknowledge your cult adherence to the anti science ideology of the left and Democrats in particular or you can re enter the world of the literate and question your masters. Graph

[“Mosquito people post notices when they are spraying, but what precautions do we need to take on the ground”] Stay inside — it’s a harmless insecticide just like the harmless seeds with Round-up built in to them and the harmless GMO Frankenfoods sold to us in the stores. I’d say follow simple decontamination procedures as outlined in the USMC Nuke Bio Chem Warfare Guide Book

Does anyone have an idea as to why WFFG 1300am goes silent between 5:00 and 5:30pm? I have been listening to the station for about 16 years and they go off the air frequently, presumably for some mechanical/electrical problem, but this every day thing has me curious. How do they deal with advertisers who have paid for unaired spots? Thanks for any info.

seed[Illegal Seeds] A new law proposed by the European Commission would make it illegal to “grow, reproduce or trade” any vegetable seeds that have not been “tested, approved and accepted” by a new EU bureaucracy named the “EU Plant Variety Agency.”

It’s called the Plant Reproductive Material Law, and it attempts to put the government in charge of virtually all plants and seeds. Home gardeners who grow their own plants from non-regulated seeds would be considered criminals under this law. L:ink

cicadia7[East Coast About To Be Overrun By Billions Of Cicadas] Since 1996, this group of 1-inch bugs, in wingless nymph form, has been a few feet underground, sucking on tree roots and biding their time. They will emerge only when the ground temperature reaches precisely 64 degrees. After a few weeks up in the trees, they will die and their offspring will go underground, not to return until 2030.

There are ordinary cicadas that come out every year around the world, but these are different. They’re called magicicadas – as in magic – and are red-eyed. And these magicicadas are seen only in the eastern half of the United States, nowhere else in the world.

The insects will arrive in such numbers that people from North Carolina to Connecticut will be outnumbered roughly 600 to 1, maybe more!

Politicians are like bananas. When they first come in they are green, then turn yellow, and finally rotten.

“Guns” It is really quite simple. Anti-gun people should go to the Middle East and make friends. Pro-gun people should stay here and defend America.  All the holly rollers should join the anti-gun people. All the bad guys should stay here, we need the target practice!

[European Commission To Criminalize Nearly All Seeds And Plants Not Registered With Government] A new law proposed by the European Commission would make it illegal to “grow, reproduce or trade” any vegetable seeds that have not been ” approved” by a new EU bureaucracy named the “EU Plant Variety Agency.”

It’s called the Plant Reproductive Material Law, and it will put the government in charge of virtually all plants and seeds. Home gardeners who grow their own plants from non-regulated seeds would be considered criminals under this law.

Nearly all varieties of heirloom vegetable seeds will be criminalized under this proposed EU law. This means the act of saving seeds from one generation to the next — a cornerstone of sustainable living — will become a criminal act.

Virtually all plants and vegetable seeds as well as all gardeners will eventually have to be registered by government. Link

FROM THE RIGHT

right only grey

flag burning7Deer Friends I am coming to the conclusion that Mr. Obama and Mrs. Obama either really don’t like the United States or are fundamentally convinced that our system of governance is deeply flawed. Their actions suggest that they feel that our nation is something to be ashamed off. There are rafts of evidence to support that premise. Obama’s childhood and youth was deeply involved with family, friends, and mentors who were anti American.  There is ample evidence that his professional life and his early political career were shaped by persons who hold deep animus for capitalism in general and specifically the United States.

We heard Mrs. Obama declaim that she had never been proud of the United States until Mr. Obama was nominated for the Presidency. Early in Mr. Obama’s first term he made a pilgrimage to the MidEast and Europe. His speeches in that tour drenched the United States in blame for much of the international communities problems. The tour was widely called the “apology tour”.

Here’s a quote from Obama’s speech in Strasberg France in April 2009 “In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.” There are plenty more quotes that you can check out Link

Now Obama has upped the ante on his blaming the United States for the ills of the world.  He recently gave a speech in Mexico. Reuters reports, in part, the following Obama quotes: “Drug-fueled violence in Mexico is not entirely the fault of the Mexican people”  “Instead, the United States shares the blame because much of the violence is centered around the Americans’ demand for illegal drugs and the fact that guns are smuggled into Mexico from the United States.”  “In this relationship there is no senior partner or junior partner. We are two equal partners, two sovereign nations that must work together in mutual interest and mutual respect.”

Apparently Mr. Obama has elected to ignore the fact that his very own Justice Department was responsible for permitting more than two thousand guns to be illegally smuggled INTO Mexico. At least one of those guns was recovered at the site of the murder of an American Border Patrol officer.  Apparently Mr. Obama has elected to ignore his resounding reluctance to actually seal our southern border.

an_illegals

It is true that the US seems to have a nearly insatiable appetite for narcotics, but it is the Mexican border that is the primo route  for drug smuggling.  We have no such problem with Canada. Our eastern and western coastlines are thousands of miles long, yet the amount of drugs and the number of illegal aliens making it into the USA is dwarfed by activity on the Mexican border. Mexico has a truly noxious reputation for official corruption. That is not the fault of the USA. Narco terrorists now rule Mexico, that fact demonstrates the lack of resolve in the governance of Mexico.

And so we hear yet another mea culpa from Mr. Obama. Blame America first.
