[Gone But Not Forgotten] I am a FL native (and a really old one to boot) and have endured transplants, new residents, tourists, visitors, sightseers, vacationers, entrepreneurs, carpetbaggers, developers, pave-it-all nitwits, organizers, spoilers, environmentalists, builders, parking meters at beaches, paved/striped parking in remote nature parks, miles of aluminum railing installed to “protect” citizens, paved/overly signed “nature trails”, millions, perhaps billions of taxpayer money squandered by politicians that are ‘here to help’ and pledge to preserve the “real” Florida when not a one has any idea what the real Florida WAS, because it’s gone folks. Same as the “REAL Keys” are long gone. Kind of makes rear-ending a blinker fool a little bit too late. |

I just realized that the Vatican has the greatest spy network the world has ever seen. The Pope has hundreds of thousands of ‘spies’ in just about every country, town and village throughout the planet where the faithful whisper their secrets. And it all gets reported back to the Vatican. |

[Crooks] Despite Keys charges, two cops remain patrolling Link Does anyone remember when police were the good guys? I’m honestly in fear of the current crop of cops who have been paramilitary trained to yell and take charge of any situation. These guys are lucky the driver of the truck wasn’t one of the over a million card carrying, gun packing Floridian who are more than willing to claim Stand-Your-Ground as a defense. Anyone want to bet they walk? |
[NASA] There were some folks on the highway wanting to impeach Obama for getting rid of NASA space program or something. Don’t they know that the American space program is the healthiest it’s been in a long time. Gone are the cost overruns and padded employment rosters. Private companies have filled the gap left by that bloated space agency and a launching rockets for $100 mill less per launch. There is so much demand that Cape Kennedy facility is expanding to accommodate more launches. |

[“Deer’ Friends makes FTR sound stuoid”] To the poster with no sense of humor from Friday. FTR uses the word deer as a pun to replace the correct word “dear” because we live in a deer refuge that pretty much controls what we do, and is itself, a controversial subject. Also spelling stupid wrong says a lot about you too. |

Fried spider is a regional delicacy in Cambodia. In the Cambodian town of Skuon (Cheung Prey, Kampong Cham Province), the vending of fried spiders as a specialty snack is a popular attraction for tourists passing through this town. The spiders are bred in holes in the ground in villages north of Skuon, or foraged for in nearby forestland, and fried in oil.
It is not clear how this practice started, but some have suggested that the population might have started eating spiders out of desperation during the years of Khmer Rouge rule, when food was in short supply. |

I keep noticing the “car sitter syndrome” during the snowbird season. Look around the WD parking lot or any large parking area and there are lots of people just sitting in the cars. A friend said they just don’t want to go into the store with their spouse. I said I think they are just lazy. Judging by the size of most of our northern visitors, I am sticking with my reason.
Also, is there a black market for handicap stickers on cars? There seems to be a proliferation of them lately. |

[Climate Change] I was able to do some Adobe Illustrator magic comparing the data points (arches, top of bridge, waterline) of the color photograph on the left with the one on the top right to give what the waterline would look like applied to bottom right photo (whited out area).
The red arrows point to a common point corresponding to the applied waterline of the color photo. It’s showing in the top right photo that the concrete is bare of discoloration in that area versus the photograph on the left. I’ve gotten my Freshwater Conch status and can honestly say in my opinion there has been a rise in the ocean levels. It’s been very gradual, but it’s been occurring. |
[No Name Electric] With unintended consequences piling up, the Monroe County Commission voted Tuesday to pay engineering and planning firm Keith & Schnars $40,600 to conduct a wide-ranging study of county policies and the federal Coastal Barrier Resource System.
The county’s law was mostly related to the Lower Keys’ No Name Key, a 1,000-acre island whose homeowners have been battling for decades over bringing commercial power there. Residents use solar panels and generators now. But there are coastal barrier areas up and down the Keys — including in North Key Largo and the water underneath the Tavernier Creek Bridge — causing problems the county never considered. County staff confirmed in November that it would not issue sewer-hookup permits to 32 homes along County Road 905 in North Key Largo because that area is included in the CBRS. The Key Largo Wastewater Treatment District learned of the issue just days before construction began to install a force main along the road. A much larger problem arose last week when the village of Islamorada’s wastewater pipeline to Key Largo was called into question. An underwater portion beneath the Tavernier Creek Bridge is part of the CBRS. The County Commission was set to discuss the North Key Largo and Islamorada problems Tuesday, but postponed the talk until the next regular commission meeting in Key Largo on May 15. That will give Keith and Schnars time to begin its study. ~Keynoter – Saturday, March 02 |

[An independent voter looks at sequestration] A poster on CT asked if there was any connection between a “sequester” of a jury and the economic issue we are facing and I began to think about how the Beltway crowd is trying to confuse us as to what has really happened. When I say “Beltway crowd”, I mean the Legislative and Executive branches of our government without regards to position or party. For the rest of this, I’ll refer to them as “they”. I’m not sure how they came up with “sequestration”, but any other word to describe it has ugly implications and, being politicians, they found a word that has little indication about what it really is. After a few half-hearted and hard-headed tries at doing something positive about our problems of a stagnant economy ( little GDP growth)and an outrageous debt, a “supercommittee” (another new word) of 12 legislators was formed to solve the problem. In addition to this, an economic bomb made up of across the board cuts was devised to force these 12 to actually do something . The idea was to set the timer on the bomb for March 1, knowing that the bomb would produce an economic outcome so bad for each side that they would finally come up with some decision. Which they did not. Now it has gone off. Why ? Because the bomb hurts us, not them. Our esteemed legislators are more concerned about their re-elections than the economy of the country. By their reckoning, making a decision could annoy what they perceive to be their voter base, which is, to their self centered view, worse than hurting a couple of million people economically. So now they hide what they really did by blaming each other. It’s like having the members of a gang who beat you to a pulp blame each other for having the idea to do it. Those of us who are Dems blame those of us who are Reps and vice versa. (By the way, if you are parsing the previous sentence to figure out if I am a Rep or a Dem, you are part of the problem because it is your vote that these esteemed legislators are thinking about. You should focus on the “what”, not the “who”. ) And here we are. Some of us will get hurt, some not. Those who are hurt won’t be organized enough to have any political clout, so once again our esteemed legislators win. I am angered and saddened. |

FTR really is taking his recent trip to the woodshed in the election really bad. Hes been all the way down to criticizing the first lady for presenting an award at the grammys( She must be a monster) comparing our Presidents information to that of using Nazi Propaganda techniques and to his refusing to believe there were a huge number of Republicans that voted for and supported the sequester. Hopefully there comes a day when he can enjoy being an American again. Thats the huge difference between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats at times supported President Bush but the lock step Republicans dont have the same courage or love of country to do the same. Its kind of sad. |

Our President is teaching us a lesson. It shouldn’t matter if you’re on the left, right, gay, straight, of color, white, short, tall, heavy or thin. He is going to show us who’s boss. He will let, no look forward to hurtful, mean cuts to take place. He and his best and brightest can find no other wasteful cuts to meet the 2% cut that he suggested. These cuts are in future spending that has not even taken place yet.
There is more that enough time to trim 2% of wasteful government spending on parties, videos, privately chartered jets, no new hiring of federal employee’s, and on and on. I can not see how anyone can support this kind of thinking. I am so disappointed in this, “lets show ‘em” politics. I can assure each and everyone of us this our President and his policy makers will feel no pain, none at all. |

Once again FTR has pulled the trigger too quickly attacking the White House. This time he uses the Woodard story threatened by a senior official. Since then his brethren have called Woodard out on it and the emails show he is a crybaby. Maybe FTR needs to wait a day, drooling, until the full story comes out. Just another example of FTR’s lack of credibly. |
FROM THE RIGHT |
During every single year of the Obama presidency our revenues have increased. The White House anticipates that by the end of 2013 U.S. revenue will have increased by nearly 40% since he took office. Source Has your family income increased by that amount? On January 20, 2009, the day Mr. Obama took office, the debt stood at $10.626 trillion. The latest report tells us that Obama has overseen an increase of over $6 trillion in debt. CBS reported: “It’s an historic achievement for Obama.” “It’s the largest increase to date under any U.S. president. During the eight-year presidency of George W. Bush, the debt increased by $4.9 trillion.” I trust you will remember that the Democrats were apoplectic at that number. Debt and spending were the biggest issues during the mid term election in Bush’s 2nd term. The Republicans were routed from control of Congress. I trust that you will remember that Mr. Obama used the debt as a major campaign issue. Is your life any better today than it was 4 years ago? I doubt it. Sentier Research has reported (9/12) that the mean American family income has dropped by 8.2% since Obama took office. The American poverty rate is at near record highs, the last time it was this high was in the 1960’s. CNN is reporting that in January Americans saw the biggest monthly income drop in 20 years. That’s due in part to Obama’s re-imposition of the payroll tax and in part because December monthly income was unusually high because companies paid out early dividends to avoid upcoming tax hikes. – See more Most folks don’t realize that while the most affluent of us have seen a sharp increase in taxes, those of us in the middle class are being hit as well. Then of course there is the hidden tax of energy costs. We must buy energy. For most of one of the biggest hits is gasoline. According to Market Watch, the average price of gas on March 1st 2009 was @$1.84 a gallon. Today it is @$3.78 per gallon. Let’s say that you drive about 15k per year and burn about 22 mpg, if so you will burn about 682 gallons in year. If that’s so, it’s now costing you $1300 more a year just to operate your car. Please remember that Team Obama has told us that they actually want to increase the price of gas. The level of consumer debt has decreased every quarter from 2008 through the 3rd quarter of the last FY. Americans realize that when your income declines, you must cut back on your spending. Mr. Obama and his team operate in a different universe. Even though they have had decent increases in revenue, they have not paid down our debt. Instead they haves managed to plunge us $6 trillion plus further into debt. Certainly, if the average American can cut their spending, the Federal government can and should too. If we cannot, if we will not, we are hard on the path to a fiscal Barakolypse. Part 2) Maybe, just maybe, you might be interested in how the feds have spent your money. If you want to look at it in depth, just google Senator Coburn’s Waste Book 2012. |
