[Auditor’s Lambast County Clerk’s Office Since Amy Heavllin Took Over] Roughly 30 people, including a half dozen senior employees, have left since Heavilin took office in January 2013, and several of them cited a hostile or uncomfortable workplace as a reason for leaving. Some of the resignations came after Heavilin hired her campaign manager, Cathy Crane, as her second in command. Within a week of taking office, Heavilin fired Sandra Carlile, the former finance director and an employee of 21 years. (See today’s Citizen at newsstands)

[Murder-for-hire] Former Coast Guard Commander gets 10 years for his murder-for-hire scheme. The FBI arrested Zecca on Dec. 21, 2012, after he agreed to pay an unnamed informant $20,000, or a kilogram in cocaine, to shoot Marathon realtor Schmitt dead with a 9mm Beretta handgun over the 2012 Christmas holidays. The cocaine charges were dropped in a plea deal.

They should not have dropped the cocaine charges until Zecca ratted out his co-conspirators, which he refused to do.

Restaurant Review: Mangrove Mommas] Square grouper was packed and there was an hour wait yesterday so we looked for the closest restaurant and that was Mangrove Mama’s I’d eaten there about seven years ago and had a bad meal and my wife ate there about two years ago and had a bad meal, but we decided to try it again because they have a new owner since than. What a mistake.

The first clue: There were scattered cars in the lot at 8pm–prime dining time on a busy holiday week. Second clue: the interior was dingy and looked neglected, the chairs were dirty and there was food on the floor. Third clue: our waiter did not greet us, he just stood their like we were a bother and asked for our drink order. He didn’t know what beers they had. The place looked like a greasy spoon and from looking at the few other diners’ plates I could see that everything was deep fried in dirty oil causing the crust to be very dark. We scanned the menu for something not fried and she ordered their Lobster Reuben and me a Philly Cheese Steak sandwich (a big letdown from the Square Grouper’s fare, I tell you!). The Reuben contained an over fried lobster that was tough, stringy and flavorless as if it had been the freezer for a year. Who ever heard of deep fried glop inside a grilled sandwich? She ate half of it and gave up, having had her fill of grease for the year. The dressing was out of a jar.

My Philly Cheese Steak was even worse. The filling appears to have been cooked sometime in the past century. The scant bell pepper slices were soft and mushy and onions were non-existent. The whole pre-cooked mess was placed on a long store-bought roll and low quality mozzarella cheese was placed on top (since when does a Philly Cheese Steak have mozzarella cheese on it) Their biggest crime was instead of heating the sandwich in the oven, the hack in the kitchen nuked it for way too long. Have you ever tried to eat a bun after it’s been in the microwave for over a minute? You can’t eat it as it becomes tough like leather. The surly waiter was busy taking to someone in the kitchen and we had to wait for him to finish before I could get his attention and pay so we could get out the hell out of there. Speaking of kitchen, if you have to go in there for some reason I can’t understand, look at the kitchen door, it is absolutely filthy, completing the total run down look.

The one bright spot in our miserable dining experience was the homemade potato salad. It was delicious. ~b33040@outlook.com

Here’s another little Independence Day fun fact for you. What’s the number one food consumed on the 4th of July?? That would be hotdogs, 155 million to be exact. Now that’s a lot of wieners on toasted buns.
Don’t forget, Springer’s will be at Big Pine Park for the 4th of July festivities. We will be serving up our delicious BBQ pork sandwiches for $5 with a free drink included. So come on out, enjoy a bite, hang with friends and watch the amazing fireworks display. No better way to spend the day.
There’s Always Something Special at Springers.

[Murder-for-hire] I was in the court room and heard Brian Schmitt’s gut-wrenching and, at times emotional, testimony as to the extreme psychological harm caused by Dennis Zecca’s (and his associates & co-conspirators) miserably botched attempt at killing him. Mr. Zecca got 10 years and it was apparent the Judge was no fan. Dennis Zecca you (and your associates and co-conspirators) are a piece of s**t of the highest order. One down (he’s safe in prison) and others in Marathon to go. Every dog has his day. It’s time to clean up the petri dish of the Keys. Murder for hire is not cool.

[Watered-down gas] Myself and others I know of, have gotten watered gas at a certain station on Summerland, at the highway side car pumps and the canal boat gas pump.   My car died and I had to pull the tank and drain it (lots of water) and replace the fuel pump. The boat quit at about 5 miles south of the reef and I had to limp a long way in, at an intermittent idle.  I remembered that when I was gassing up the boat, this old dufus that used to hang out there stuck his head out the back door and said, “Aw shit!”, and then ducked back inside.  Down here you just have to be lucky because you can’t really depend on anyone to get it right the first time.

[“Ramrod Shell station“] I don’t have problems with their gas, but that’s because I’m boycotting the Shellopoly in the lower keys (Ramrod, Summerland, BPK). They’re hosing us on the prices Rec-90 is $4.79 there vs $4.13 in Marathon. For the high prices they charge, you would expect very high quality gas being pumped out of their gold plated tanks.

[Points to Ponder]
-Death is the number 1 killer in the world.
-Life is sexually transmitted.
-Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die.
-Men have two emotions: hungry and horny, and they can’t tell them apart. If you see a gleam in his eyes, make him a sandwich.
-Give a person a fish and you feed them for a day. Teach a person to use the internet and they won’t bother you for weeks, months, maybe years.
-Health nuts are going to feel stupid someday, lying in the hospital, dying of nothing.
-All of us could take a lesson from the weather. It pays no attention to criticism.
-In the 60’s, people took acid to make the world weird. Now the world is weird, and people take Prozac to make it normal.
-Life is like a jar of jalapeno peppers. What you do today might burn your ass tomorrow.

And as someone recently said to me, “Don’t worry about old age; it doesn’t last that long.”

soccer goalie[Plan Replace American Football With Soccer] A ten-year European plan to gradually phase out American football in the United States and replace it with soccer is “very much on track,” a spokesman for the European Union confirmed today. The E.U. spokesman, Alf-Jergen Holmboe, said the replacement of American football with soccer was the third in a three-step plan to transform the U.S. into a European country. “The first two steps were electing a socialist President and instituting national health care,” he said. “Once soccer replaces football, our work will be done.”

Holmboe said that the E.U. could take no credit for the legalization of gay marriage in the United States, but called it “a very welcome development.” He added, “Once a country has socialism, national health care, and gay marriage, soccer is usually next.” The spokesman offered no timetable for eliminating baseball, but indicated that it was “in the works.”

[Goombay Festival Before KW City Commission] Both sides saw revenue generation for their own special charitable interests, and perhaps for their own pocketbooks. One side, the new group, the coalition, some of whose member organizations ran Goombay when it nearly fell apart and didn’t pay back the city and who knows who else didn’t get paid back. The side which ran Goombay the past 2 years paid the bills, got it done okay, although it seemed they strayed away from the African-roots theme a bit, based on what I was picking up. And, there seemed to be much made of the new coalition being faith-based, which caused me to wonder how much money the churches in that coalition were trying to end up with? African slave roots pre-date Christianity. As you saw and heard during citizen comments, I asked the mayor and city commissioners to mandate Goombay has to be African roots theme. After the side which had Goombay the past 2 years was awarded it for this year, I told the fellow who spoke first for that side, Rodney Gullate, that it was really important not to dilute Goombay with non-African influence. He said his wife is from Puerto Rico and that had to do with them including Spanish music during last year’s Goombay. I said that wasn’t a good idea, that’s not what Goombay is about. I asked if he’d been on the Caribbean and Bahama Islands I had named during citizen comments? Jamaica, Tortola, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Bequia, Grenada, Nassau, Grand Bahama? I left out Antigua. He said, no. I said, very few white natives. (I did not say church influence very strong.) I said, I see at Goombay food vendors with African Bahama/Caribbean roots food; same food vendors I see at other Key West events, they come down from the mainland. He said there is plenty of free space at Goombay for the new coalition’s members to set up. Goombay last night was a really rough time for everyone involved, and I imagine there was more not said, which bore on the decision the City Commission had to make, albeit not gladly. Money certainly was at issue, but I think straying from African roots was, too. And maybe more, which was unsaid.

[“Water in gas”] Gas stations are required to keep logs with info on the fuel tanks for annual inspection by the State. If you think there is a problem you can call the Dept. Of Agriculture division of weights & measures. That being said the problem is most often condensation in fuel tanks because of ethanol in the fuel which has a natural affinity with water. And also improper storage of gasoline at home. Lots of luck.
[Pigs] A old friend told me once many years ago, that if you play with pigs you start to think like them and smell like pig shit! This has been proven, especially living in south Florida.

[Iraq] We need to give them a couple of big, big bombs from 10,000 ft.
[Immigration Action, Finally] In 2008, candidate Obama said “But this is the part of the whole theory of George Bush, that he can make laws as he goes along. I disagree with that. I taught the Constitution for 10 years. I believe in the constitution and I will obey the Constitution of the United States. We are not gonna use signing statements as doing an end run around congress”
It should be obvious  to anyone with half a brain left that the Republicans have always, from day one, been out to stifle ANYTHING that Obama has ever tried to do, they even famously stated this goal when Obama was first elected,  through their spokesman, Sen. Mitch McConnel, to be accomplished at the expense  of the everyday American.  It has to be a racial thing.  No President in our history could be so wrong about absolutely everything, as purported by Republican TV,  Fox News , and it’s Republican lackey Congressmen.  It is impossible according to every law of statistics.  Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.  I think that there are a great many people out there whose personal lives are so screwed up that they are willing  to take out their frustrations and anxieties on whomever or whatever happens to be handy, like our Government  and our President, and blame them for their own failings and shortcomings, all at the expense of the forward progress of our once great Nation.
from the right
CivilRightsAct3Fifty years ago yesterday former President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Civil Rights Act that most Democrat legislators fiercely resisted. They even filibustered against it. That act that set about to establish “equality” and ended Jim Crow laws for all Americans.

The law has done much good, but much remains to be accomplished.

On the surface, the Civil Rights Act has certainly transformed American life. We have a Black President. Blacks and whites are more integrated in work and education than ever before. Blacks vote in larger numbers and hold more political offices. They hold private and public sector jobs once dominated by whites. They hold public office in ever growing numbers.

But these successes seem superficial compared to the deep and abiding problems that still afflict the American of African ancestry community. Poverty lingers for generation after generation, it is visible in small pockets in some communities and is as vast as the City of Detroit. Black on Black crime is the scourge of many communities. Blacks are arrested and convicted, and jailed in vastly disproportionate rates to whites. The unemployment rate of Whites dwarfs that of Blacks. About 72% of Black babies are born out of wedlock. Those children, absent a father figure, are much more likely to face poverty and welfare dependence.

In the coming days, there will be much flag-waving and fireworks, much talk of faith and freedom, pride and patriotism. But if this country was conceived in liberty, it was also conceived in slavery. To ignore that fact is not only dishonest, it robs us of the opportunity to heal this country, to make it whole. Our society has a fundamental duty to reform the laws that have created and perpetuated an underclass. The 50th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act is a good time to think about that. So is the Fourth of July.

thumb3Part 2) It is not in the least bit surprising that a poll by Time magazine has just disclosed that Mr. Obama is the least popular President since WW2, 70 years. Today’s headlines reveal just today’s reasons why, and remember that tomorrow is another day: National Review On Line, “HHS Bars Congressman from Seeing Immigrant Children.” ABC NEWS, “Border Patrol union official says influx of migrants threatens agents’ health, national security.”  ABC News, “Southern California town, Murrieta Official Warns Immigration Protests Likely ‘Every Time’ (immigrant) Buses Arrive.” The Center for Disease Control has reported that unbeknownst to the American public, the agency has set up an “emergency operation center” to deal with various diseases accompanying the surge of illegal aliens currently staging a virtually uncontested U.S. invasion. It is reliably reported that a government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. The security force proudly calls themselves “Brown Shirts.”

Then we have to consider that the mid-east is in flames, that the forces of jihadism have never been stronger, that a brand new Islamic caliphate has just been established in the dying country of Iraq. Then we have to consider that our economy declined by nearly 3% in just last quarter. Then we have to consider that CNS News is reporting that: “Federal Gov’t Sues Wisconsin Company, Says English-Language Requirement is ‘Discrimination.” AAA reports: “With Independence Day only a few days away, today’s national average price of gas is $3.68 per gallon. This average is considerably more expensive than recent years for the holiday.” And it is more than twice the price of gas when Obama took office.

It is a tragedy that with the 4th of July celebration upon us, that Gallup polling has just revealed that “Americans are feeling less satisfied with the freedom to choose what to do with their lives.”

It is no wonder that a Quinnipiac poll has just revealed that more voters now say GOP nominee Mitt Romney would have been a better choice in 2012 than Obama.

Democrat governance has failed us.
