[Birth Control] On this date, June 7, 1965 the U.S. Supreme Court handed down its ruling in Griswold v. Connecticut, a landmark decision declaring that married couples had a constitutional right to birth control. Six decades later, concerns remain that the current Supreme Court could strike down contraception protections the same way it overturned Roe v. Wade.
[What if D-Day Had Failed] Without D-Day, the total defeat of Nazi Germany and return of democracy to Western Europe could not be envisioned as inevitable. It was one of the rare moments in history when the world changed. Failure would have shown America to be a paper tiger.

[Woman’s Periods Helps] Dr. Flaminia Ronca t is the lead author of a recent study that showed women make fewer mistakes and have better mental agility while on their period, even though they feel worse than at any other time during their menstrual cycle.
[Mad Max Police Cars] Militarized Cybertruck cop cars are coming. A California company is advertising ‘tactical response’ Tesla Cybertruck upgrades for police cruisers, including shotgun racks and sirens. Link
[Breeding] The United States’ birth rate is at an all-time low, with fewer babies born each year since 2007. Declining fertility in the U.S. is of particular concern for pronatalists, a group of people who intend to produce as many offspring as possible. Link
[Computer Club] I am Looking for a  Windows 7 Pro disc with the key code. Mine got fractured and won’t work. Thanks. (Editor: Support for Windows 7 ended 5 years ago! There is no reason to want Windows 7—it is the worst OS since Windows ME.  Win7 will do more damage to your computer than you think. Upgrade to Windows 10 or 11. Win10 will work on most old computers. Win 7 was vulnerable to hackers and never worked right. There have been so many system advances in 5 years that they are too many to list. I have a Windows 10 Home full edition disc with serial number I’ll give to you. I’ll meet you at the computer club this Saturday and give it to you. Also if your old computer won’t support Win 10, try Linux open source and free. Linux will work on anything. There’s also the free Chrome OS that will work on anything.)
[Radiative Cooling] This California company wants to make modern AC obsolete. Nanoscience dusts off a quirk of physics to optimize air conditioning. Can it help save the planet too? Link
[Volcano Map] Study the map and notice the volcanic spots are the same areas as most of the world’s social and political problems are happening. Map
Income inequality was greater among Chinese Americans than any other Asian American group in 2022, The survey examined census data and found that Chinese Americans in the highest income bracket earned 19.2 times more than Chinese Americans in the lowest income bracket.
[Bad Day  for Arachnophobes] Brace yourselves for another bug invasion. The Northeast U.S. is getting an onslaught of giant spiders that can “parachute through the air.” The yellow and gray arachnids, named Joro spiders, will be “hard to miss” since females have a leg span of up to 4 inches and are known for their vibrant colors. Their ability to fly, a trait uncommon among spiders, sets them apart.
[“No postal address”] I know how they feel. I was in Katmandu Nepal and had a lining put in a jacket I bought, but when I went to collect it the next day, I found there were no street numbers. There weren’t even any street signs! And there weren’t any names of the shops either. Big bummer. The street maps of Katmandu were a joke. It took me hours to find the stall.
[Birth Control For Men] A new male contraceptive gel works faster than other hormone treatments, according to research by the National Institutes of Health. The gel combines segesterone acetate and testosterone to suppress sperm production. Men in the study applied the gel daily to their shoulder blades and reached sperm counts deemed effective for contraception within an average of eight weeks. “The development of a safe, highly effective and reliably reversible contraceptive method for men is an unmet need,” said Diana Blithe, a senior researcher for the study.
Do dogs dream? The answer might make you appreciate your pup even more. Snoozing dogs twitch, woof, and flop in their sleep. But what’s going on inside their brains? Link
[Computer Club] This Sat., June 8 at the Community center, Winn Dixie Plaza, Big Pine Key. 10:30 a.m. I hope that those of you still in residence will come. Plenty of room for all (no standing needed). We won’t be stranded outside anymore, since I now have a key. ~Lou

[Pump Closed] It had a gas spill. Not to worry, stupid lady will fix the problem if she doesn’t blow up first.

[D-Day] This happened 80 years ago yesterday – probably not too many of those old Soldiers from the Greatest Generation are still here, but we Americans and millions of Europeans still appreciate their sacrifices on that historic bloody beach so long ago.  2400 American soldiers killed and wounded in a few hours that morning on Omaha Beach–two thousand four hundred! Remember them. D-Day

Is the Y cut the best way to slice a sandwich? Experts slice up the horizontal vs. diagonal vs. Y cut debate. There aren’t a lot of sandwich studies (thank Goodness). Link
[Crooks] N. Korea is responsible for American having to redesign the hundred-dollar bill two times due to their excellent counterfeiting. That costs millions and millions of real dollars.

[Health News] Drinking beer every day is healthier for you than being dead.
