Monroe County is interested in your feedback! They need input from tourism business owners to help formulate public policy for affordable tourism employee housing, at various locations throughout the Florida Keys. This survey has been developed to encourage business owners who own tourism related businesses to give the County data on the income levels of employees, so we can set rents and minimum income levels appropriate for the future developments we are working on providing throughout the community. Deer Monroe County,
The solution is obvious to us locals not in politics—allow downstairs enclosures to be habitable. True leaders could make it happen regardless of FEMA.

[Friday Joke] It’s like my mom always told me, “You might not be the dumbest guy in the world, but you better hope he doesn’t die.”
[Shark Bite] 8-year-old Richard Burrows was swimming with his father, David, and his 10-year-old sister, Rose, around Horseshoe Reef off Key Largo around 3:30 p.m. on Labor Day when the shark bit him on the leg. Two tourniquets had to be applied to stanch the bleeding, and he was airlifted to Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where surgeons performed emergency surgery to save his leg. applying tourniquets and putting pressure on the wounds was integral to the success of Richard’s surgery. The shark that bit Richard was a blacktip that “rushed” them while they were in the water. Link

Can ‘ice batteries’ cool down our soaring energy demands? More than 4,000 buildings already use stored ice to cut daytime electricity use. This approach, known as thermal energy storage or sometimes referred to colloquially as “ice batteries,” uses energy to freeze liquid overnight, when most people are asleep and electricity demand is lower. That stored ice is then melted to help cool building temperatures during peak hours. Link
Florida to ban vaccine mandates, here comes the Panhandle Pokey, and what insurrection? The Sunshine States leads the march back to the Dark Ages with a new plan that would reverse decades of progress in public health. Thanks to Joe Ladapo, Gov. Ron DeSantis’ handpicked surgeon general, Florida is now officially the dumbest—and unhealthiest—state in the nation. Link
[See What It’s Like To Be Old] The age simulation suit consists of a set of separate components. By their interaction an effect very similar to the impairments of the sensomotoric skills in old age can be achieved. Especially the age-related walk and the changed grip ability are simulated very close to reality by the age simulation suit GERT. But also the increased mental load and the soaring movement uncertainty will be understandable when wearing the age simulation suit GERT. Those who tried the age simulation suit GERT will have a better understanding of elderly people’s behavior. Link

[Friday Joke] A horse and a chicken were playing in a meadow when suddenly the horse fell into a muddy hole and started sinking. He shouted to the chicken, “Go get the farmer to help me out!” The chicken ran off but couldn’t find the farmer. Instead, he hopped into the farmer’s Mercedes, tied a rope to the bumper, tossed the other end to the horse, and drove forward—saving his friend.
A few days later, the two were playing again when this time the chicken fell into the same mud hole. He yelled to the horse, “Go get the farmer!”
The horse said, “No need, I think I can handle this!”
He stretched over the hole and told the chicken, “Grab onto my… uh… you know… and pull yourself up.” The chicken did, and he was saved.
Moral: If you’re hung like a horse, you don’t need a Mercedes to pick up chicks.
