FKAA letters – got mine and I’m thrilled.  Now we can hook up and stop polluting our canals. It’s taken a while, but the lawsuit delays are done Everyone seems concerned over the 30 days – not sure you listened completely.  The FKAA does not intent to call code enforcement and legally can not enforce hookup anyway.  You will get billed for the ability to have the service effective in 30 days (the county paid for the system, we all have to contribute to paying its operations) Remember, this is a state mandate on the citizens of Monroe County. I know folks like to bitch on the CT, and I saw the post about the ‘fact-resistant’ human species, but no need to spout comments that just aren’t true.
why-meIs there any discount on the sewer hook up for senior citizens on social security? Permits and installation are expensive. We are living on a tight budget as it is, and paying for new electrical service, landscaping around it, the permits needed for the work and paying all the different contractors like the electrician, plumber, and someone to destroy my septic tank, someone to fill it in, someone to repair the yard after all this trauma. Those are big expenses when you’re trying to scratch a living on a very limited income and trying to maintain your house and vehicle at the same time–and eat too!
The next meeting of our Big Pine Computer Club is coming this morning, Saturday, October 24, 10 am at the senior center.  Hope to see you there. Full Menu > Ongoing Events

[Bill Maher] It doesn’t matter if you love him or hate him. You need to watch his commentary on the Selfie-Texting-Cell phone generation. He hits the nail squarely on the head. Adult language. Video

With the shallow well lawsuit settled, there is now a requirement for a back-up generator, which means the shallow wells will not be routinely used during the frequent power failures. Still, the shallow wells should not be used, even for backup. There should be another deep well drilled now

If you look at the attached chart, it should be obvious how WSA was able to claim that the wells worked, whereas FIU’s testing under Dr. Briceno ended with water boiling out of the ground. Sure, the wells appear to work briefly, but put them under a truly continuous load like normal plant operation and you have springs! You might need to click the photo to clearly see the graph. The WSA tests show the rate of flow from the cumulative injection of all 4 wells for each minute. The continuous flow rates predicted for the operating plant are the horizontal lines, except for the 3 week gold line representing the FIU test. Compared to the FIU test, do you think the WSA testing proved much? I think it was a farce, intended to deceive. When will people quit taking FKAA at their word?

FKAA buffers the tap water to a pH (alkalinity) of over 9 to minimize pipe corrosion. FKAA tap water was used to test the wells. The routine landfill monitoring samples taken 3 weeks after WSA finished showed that the pH (alkalinity) of surface water at the site went from the usual, natural of just over 7 to well over 9, and went from saline in the previous sample to slightly brackish. How do you suppose that happened?
I think they need to contract the second deep well now .instead of later when it costs more and damage has been done.

Kirk Zuelch admitted that the 30 day requirement to hook-up to the sewers is unreasonable and impossible. So why did he send out the demand? Does Mr Zuelch ever actually think?

[“Please buy stuff made in U.S.A”] Easy for you to say, but in reality, those people work 12 or more hours per day, seven days a week to make a living. American workers, at most, work a forty hour pleasure cruise watching robots turn out exports. Then there is the obnoxious mark-up at retail stores who buy at low cost and stick it up your wallet. They are the monsters killing the American way of honor and fair pricing. Oh, you can get it for me wholesale? Great!

[“Hall for rent“] For those looking to rent a hall for a private non-profit function, and who might have used the former Lower Keys Property Owners building on Bogie Drive (which has been sold), the Lord of the Seas Lutheran Church on Key Deer Blvd, BPK provides a superb alternative. (305) 872-3612
chart-well[Antibiotic Risk] Daily Dose author Jack Harrison says, “If your doc says he’s writing you a prescription for any of the following fluoroquinolones, ask him for an alternative: levofloxacin (Levaquin), ciprofloxacin (Cipro), moxifloxacin (Avelox), norfloxacin (Noroxin), ofloxacin (Floxin), and gemifloxacin (Factive).” This time, these antibiotics are linked to a doubled risk of an aortic anuerism within 60 days of taking them. That can result in a stroke or hemorrhage to ruin or end your life. You can take the fluoride out of an insecticide or your tap water, but you can’t take the poison out of fluoride!
[Shallow Wells Don’t Work] I see an agenda item on the Oct 21 BOCC meeting where a spokesperson for the Duck Key Homeowners Association is expressing concerns about the deteriorating water quality in Duck Key’s flow-through canals. Duck Key went on central sewers with a shallow well injection just a few years ago, after decades on septic tanks. You’ve got to wonder.
bill-guillitine
Shallow wells, deep wells, septic systems, none really work to prevent this planet from being over polluted by too many people. The only thing that would work everywhere is some sort of a catch-all system that uses all waste products and converts them into energy. But the Back to the Futures Fusion Converter is yet to be developed. The second system that will work much better than throwing the stuff out of the window like the old world did and the Orient still does, is to have a fully closed processing system like those used on large ships, then burn the processed waste into ash for fertilizer. This is recognized as the best 99.9% pollution free system available today worldwide. So, with that in mind, where in the Keys can we put one? Do not forget our kids have to live here too!

[Sewerage] he Interim Chief of the Bureau of Environmental Health for the FDOH, Andrew Reich, decided to go against the Variance Review and Advisory Committee’s recommendation and approved Boondock’s variance. He placed a restriction of 150 seats in his approval dated Oct 15th. Howards Livingston’s CD release party on Oct 17th may have had a few more than 150 people there? Are more than 150 people going to attend the 14th Annual Halloween Patio Party? Where is all of their sewage going to go? There are strange forces at work here.

Why is everyone so willing to look the other way and just allow the destruction of the environment? At a minimum, Boondocks is pumping 2,000 gallons of untreated sewage into the ground eight feet from the surface every day. How does anyone benefit from allowing it to continue? Where is the outrage?

beer expensive

[Insulting Pricing] $8.00 freaking dollars for a beer at the Key West Airport! When the bartender gave me back $2 for the $10 I handed him, I asked if he counted right. “Yes, it’s $8.00 for that beer and I have to put it into a paper cup because of the glass bottle rule.” I said, there is no swimming pool here. On top of that the paper cup was a waxed Pepsi soda cup. The beer tasted like you know what. Never again will I buy anything at that place.

I love looking at the snow—on Facebook—from the Keys!
capsule-space

A cement truck crashed near Wingnon, Oklahoma in the 1950s and the mixer was too heavy to move. It’s still there; locals have painted it too look like an abandoned NASA space capsule.

Why are health cost so high? Here is one reason. Lansoprazole, generic Priloses, used to treat heartburn & ulcers is $140for 30 capsules at CVS. The same drug purchased online from any one of many pharmacies in Canada is $40 dollars–not for 30, not 60 not even 90 capsules: 112 capsules for $39 dollars! USA is over $4 per capsule. Canada’s cost less than $.40 cents per capsule. There are too many examples to list. Until Medicare/Medicaid, Co-ops & consumers, in general, can openly negotiate drug cost, there will be no fix. Our government is too big, top heavy & corrupt. It needs to be run in a more business-like fashion. This will benefit everyone. If nothing changes, nothing changes.
orwell-for-dummies[Privacy] Fingerprint detection on your Desk Computer, Face recognition from your camera’s lens. What is next, a pin prick key on your keyboard to get samples of your DNA? What else does Big Brother want to collect form us? And people laugh when I mention George Orwell is alive and well in DC. Orwell envisioned losing our right to privacy in the name of Homeland Security. What a terrible ruse we’ve all fallen for.
To make the hard problem look easy, look hard at the easy problem.

I bought a nice planter style hat at Hareen’s at the flea market and it’ s comfy. Remember the winter sun has more intense UV rays than the summer sun.

Being diabetic really sucks. Besides all the stuff that it does directly, it also weakens the immune system and every little bump becomes a big ol’ bruise and a simple cold or flu becomes a two to three week ordeal.

main-mast_4[Bad Day Sailing] On May 24, 1813 Commodore Decatur in the United States, which had sent ashore six carronades, and now mounted but 48 guns, left New York, passing through Hell Gate, as there was a large blockading force off the [Sandy] Hook.

Opposite Hunter’s Point the main-mast of the States was struck by lightning, which cut off the broad pendant, shot down the hatchway into the doctor’s cabin, put out his candle, ripped up the bed, and entering between the skin and ceiling of the ship tore off two or three sheets of copper sheathing near the waterline, and disappeared without leaving a trace!

The Middle and Big Torch Keys sewer collection permit was approved Wednesday by DEP. There are no water mains existing or to be installed as it stands. Two detailed letters went directly to the DEP permit reviewer back in early July that highlighted certain design problems that could have been fixed, but very little appears to have changed. However, Dump the Pumps’ previous efforts paid off for these Torches in that proper industrial rated pumps are used in the re-pump lift station on these Keys. Better attention to pipe scouring velocity was made, too, although there are still some issues there. And of course, the sluggish E-One grinder pumps are still intended to be placed in the yards of these “losers”. Residents of those Keys are encouraged to join Dump the Pumps, Inc. Many in the group will still not stand for being threatened and abused or standing by while their friends suffer. There are brand new irons in the fire and they do not intend to be big losers in the end.

[Connecting Sewers] Many people are stressed about only having until Nov 16th to connect to the Cudjoe sewers. First, don’t sweat it. The 30 days to connect is one more absurd BOCC ordinance that is impossible for most to comply with. The Florida law says 1 year. FKAA has offices in Marathon that are still flushing into a cesspit in spite of getting their notice to connect several years ago. They have the money, equipment, materials, and people to do the work right there, but just choose not to. Why? Maybe because they are above the law and do not really believe that a cesspit is not good for the water quality. Second, the pipe installation is the cheap part of the sewer connection. It is all the permits, work disruption and delays waiting for inspections, and the septic abandonment that runs the price way up. If you do your own, you will find the septic abandonment alone costs you about $800 not counting your labor and equipment. Nobody can do the work in half a day because of all the bureaucracy involved. Because the Cudjoe Regional sewers will fail, many of us want to work toward a rule change that would allow everyone to keep their septic or aerobic system in place for backup. Just like FKAA wants to keep the much more polluting shallow wells for backup to the deep well. It is not unreasonable to keep septic system. If you are paying for central sewer service, you will use it if it’s available, but the piping can be configured so that if the central sewer is out of service, then the overflow goes to your septic tank instead of all over the place. If the DOH and BOCC would agree to that and getting the damned grinder pumps off private property, then most of the resistance and lawsuits would go away.

At the Key West Airport I noticed what looked like a Rent-A-Cop walking around with a definite Badge Syndrome. He yelled at some guy to stop smoking near the arrival building and made him walk across the street to smoke. This “cop” is in need of a mental evaluation before he pulls that gun out and hurts someone. Same goes for lots of the security personal at all airports. They are classic text book psychos!

Are you proposing that folks continue to flush their pharmaceuticals in the septic system to get it down a whole 3 feet?  Maybe it will be diluted by the raw sewage in the septic tank by your canal, instead of the 97% treated water going into the shallow wells.

The Children’s Bible in a Nutshell
pontius-pilotIn the beginning, which occurred near the start, there was nothing but God, darkness, and some gas. The Bible says, “The Lord thy God is one,” but I think He must be a lot older than that.
Anyway, God said, “Give me a light!” and someone did. Then God made the world. He split the Adam and made Eve. Adam and Eve were naked, but they weren’t embarrassed because mirrors hadn’t been invented yet.
Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating one bad apple, so they were driven from the Garden of Eden. Not sure what they were driven in though, because they didn’t have cars.
Adam and Eve had a son, Cain, who hated his brother as long as he was Abel. Pretty soon all of the early people died off, except for Methuselah, who lived to be like a million or something.
One of the next important people was Noah, who was a good guy, but one of his kids was kind of a Ham. Noah built a large boat and put his family and some animals on it. He asked some other people to join him, but they said they would have to take a rain check. After Noah came Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Jacob was more famous than his brother, Esau, because Esau sold Jacob his birthmark in exchange for some pot roast. Jacob had a son named Joseph who wore a really loud sports coat.
Another important Bible guy is Moses, whose real name was Charlton Heston. Moses led the Israel Lights out of Egypt and away from the evil Pharaoh after God sent ten plagues on Pharaoh’s people. These plagues included frogs, mice, lice, bowels, and no cable.
God fed the Israel Lights every day with manicotti. Then he gave them His Top Ten Commandments. These include: don’t lie, cheat, smoke, dance, or covet your neighbor’s stuff. Oh, yeah, I just thought of one more: Humor thy father and thy mother.
One of Moses’ best helpers was Joshua who was the first Bible guy to use spies. Joshua fought the battle of Geritol and the fence fell over on the town.
After Joshua came David. He got to be king by killing a giant with a slingshot. He had a son named Solomon who had about 300 wives and 500 porcupines. My teacher says he was wise, but that doesn’t sound very wise to me.
After Solomon there were a bunch of major league prophets. One of these was Jonah, who was swallowed by a big whale and then barfed up on the shore. There were also some minor league prophets, but I guess we don’t have to worry about them.
After the Old Testament came the New Testament. Jesus is the star of The New Testament. He was born in Bethlehem in a barn. (I wish I had been born in a barn too, because my mom is always saying to me, “Close the door! Were you born in a barn?” It would be nice to say, ”As a matter of fact, I was.”)
During His life, Jesus had many arguments with sinners like the Pharisees and the Republicans. Jesus also had twelve opossums. The worst one was Judas Asparagus. Judas was so evil that they named a terrible vegetable after him.
Jesus was a great man. He healed many leopards and even preached to some Germans on the Mount. But the Democrats and all those guys put Jesus on trial before Pontius the Pilot. Pilot didn’t stick up for Jesus. He just washed his hands instead.
Anyways, Jesus died for our sins, then came back to life again. He went up to Heaven but will be back at the end of the Aluminum. His return is foretold in the book of Revolution.

ftr5Many who reside in left field are rejoicing at H’s “performance” in her testimony.  Those folks are in deep denial.  H’s testimony was just that, a “performance.”

Her testimony revealed a number of really damning aspects of the entire Benghazi tragedy.  Damning because her testimony gave us yet another look at her character and her ability as an executive.

There is no doubt but that H lied. She lied to the parents of the dead Americans, and she lied to the American public.  There are lies, and then there are damned lies.  Hers were damned lies.

Certainly you will remember the narrative that O, H, and Susan Rice spun for several days after the tragedy.  Rice, acting as mouthpiece for O and H, took to the Sunday talk shows and tried to convince the American people and the world that the episode was not an act of organized terrorism, but was rather a protest that got out of hand.  Rice, and O committed themselves to punishing the person who had posted and an anti Muslim video, blaming him for the murders.  They did that with full, total, and complete knowledge that the attack was a planned and organized terrorist attack.

How do we know that that narrative was a lie? We know it because of H’s testimony and because of the emails that she had so desperately attempted to withhold from public scrutiny.       … continued on the National Politics Page…
