 The world’s largest vacuum to suck climate pollution out of the air has opened in Iceland. Swiss company Climeworks opened Mammoth, a facility that is 10 times bigger than its predecessor, Orca, last week. The operation aims to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere using chemical processes. Partnering with Icelandic company Carbfix, Climeworks plans to sequester the captured carbon underground where it will naturally turn into stone, thus permanently locking up the carbon. The plant is powered by Iceland’s clean geothermal energy. |

 [Miracle Fat] Consuming more olive oil lowers the probability of dying from dementia, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found. The team analyzed the diets of 92,383 health care professionals over 28 years and determined that consuming at least half a tablespoon of olive oil per day is associated with a 28% lower risk of dementia-related death, compared with those who never or rarely consume the oil. They also found that swapping one teaspoon of mayonnaise for olive oil lowers the risk of dying of dementia by 14%. But beware, each tablespoon contains 28 grams of fat. |
| [From the Right Guy] It really pains me to write this, but I feel that I must. There is currently the noxious aroma of mendacity surrounding certain persons and events that are occurring in the halls of governance of Monroe County. It permeates the Florida Keys.
One involves a relative newcomer to the Keys, she is a Republican, who has decided to run for the vitally important Office of Supervisor of Elections. That office is partisan, it is vied for by Republicans and Democrats. The current office holder is a Democrat, who has done an excellent job for many years. She has chosen not to seek reelection. I write this even though I am a staunch Republican. The candidate in question is Sherri Hodies. She is a registered Republican. We know little about Ms. Hodies. Her posted web page does not tell us where she is from, how long she lived there, and only the most ephemeral details of her employment history. It claims that she holds two Master’s degrees and two Bachelor degrees. She does not tell us where she earned the degrees, nor their field. But it is now reported that she has recently stated that she does NOT hold any Masters degree. She is reported to have claimed to have actually worked for the current Supervisor of Elections for five years. A claim that would suggest knowledge of the workings of the office. But the Supervisor of Elections denies that Hodies was her employee and demanded a retraction. According to reports Hodie did retract and offered an explanation that she had actually ‘called’ other Supervisors of Elections and therefore was well acquainted with the operation of the office. The Hodies candidacy reeks. Incredibly, she was endorsed by the Republican Executive Committee even though she failed to garner the rules required majority vote, and there is another Republican candidate. Any endorsement by the committee prior to the primary is contrary to the unwritten, but long standing rule prohibiting such endorsement. To quote Big Daddy: “There ain’t nothing more powerful than the odor of mendacity!” The integrity of Supervisor of Elections offices is absolutely vital to the functioning of our Republic. It demands that the office holder have the highest ethical and administrative skills. Ms. Hodies fails on both. Personally, I recommend Margaret Romero. |

 I just read an article about seeing Great White Sharks (a cold water species) being spotted off the shores of Alabama and Mississippi. Strange? What are cold water sharks doing in the northern waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Are they a harbinger of the climate becoming cooler as predicted by numerous scientists. Do animals have a better understanding of climate than humans do? I guess so, as they have survived much longer than humans have. |
