[Moon] Have you ever really thought about how, when you look at the moon, it’s the same moon Shakespeare and Marie Antoinette and Van Gogh and Cleopatra looked at. They all looked at the moon, they’re all dead. The moon is killing people wake up America!
[Delusional Rantings] There he was, the drunk guy at the end of the bar again. This time he was complimenting the “late great Alphonse Capone”. The murdering prohibition gangster. After that he praised Hannibal Lecter the fictional cannibal saying, “Congratulations, the late great Hannibal Lecter” who the movies portrayed as a fictional person who cut up humans and ate their bodies, comparing that to migrants coming to America to try and feed their families. I’m starting to think he says these things to get me to keep buying him drinks so I can hear his delusional rantings. The fact some believe these rantings speaks volumes. I’m sure he will be back later in the week.

How does the computing power of your smartphone compare to the guidance computer aboard the 1969 Apollo 11 lunar module? Modern smartphones have about 120,000 times the processing power of the computer that landed on the moon in 1969. Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first humans to walk on the moon, while Michael Collins orbited overhead in the command module.
[Space Cookie] One small cookie for mankind. A cookie baked in space in 2019 is on display at the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Virginia. To make the treat, astronauts on board the International Space Station used a recipe based on DoubleTree by Hilton’s chocolate chip cookies and baked the goods in a specially designed microgravity oven. The cookie sits inside a custom case within a pure nitrogen environment and will eventually move to the National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.

The world’s largest vacuum to suck climate pollution out of the air has opened in Iceland. Swiss company Climeworks opened Mammoth, a facility that is 10 times bigger than its predecessor, Orca, last week. The operation aims to extract carbon dioxide from the atmosphere using chemical processes. Partnering with Icelandic company Carbfix, Climeworks plans to sequester the captured carbon underground where it will naturally turn into stone, thus permanently locking up the carbon. The plant is powered by Iceland’s clean geothermal energy.
[Chubby] A study shows that a woman who has gained a bit of extra weight lives longer than a man who brings it to her attention.

The 2d Coming isn’t quite what I expected.

[Mother]
In the dim glow of twilight’s call,
A daughter watches shadows sprawl.
Her mother’s glass, a faithful friend,
Holds spirits dark, where sorrows blend. With every sip, a storm does brew,
A tempest in the heart, not new.
The daughter’s eyes, once bright with dreams,
Now witness silent, muffled screams.A home that should be safe and sound,
Becomes a place where fears compound.
The laughter lost, the warmth now cold,
A young girl’s future put on hold. She learns to tiptoe, speak in sighs,
Beneath her mother’s glassy eyes.
Her heart, a ship on troubled sea,
Seeks harbor where she might be free.

Yet love, a bond not easily torn,
Leaves her conflicted and forlorn.
A mother, lost to bottled pain,
A daughter’s love, a quiet refrain.

Hope flickers in the darkest night,
A wish that mom might win the fight.
To break the chains, to heal, to mend,
To find the way back home again.

[Shochu] Many Americans don’t know it, but shochu is Japan’s signature spirit, said Paul Clarke in Imbibe. It outsells sake in itshome country, and although Japan produces more of it than Mexico does tequila, only 1 percent is exported. Top U.S. bars have introduced shochu in popular cocktails, leading to “percolating interest” in the clear spirit. Below, three bottles to know.
Toji Junpei ($45)Distilled from red sweet potatoes, this shochu is “fragrant and fruity, with muscat and pisco-like notes” plus “a touch of earthy minerality.”
Colorful ($55) Two shochus distilled from purple sweet potatoes and koji rice are blended in this spirit, which has “an intensely floral aroma” and “a bright liveliness on the palate.”
Tenshi No Yuwaku ($69) This shochu is aged in sherry casks, giving it notes of baked fruit and crème caramel, plus “a long, lingering finish.”

[Taylor Swift] Pop Icon & One of the Best-Selling Musicians of All Time. Numerous Grammy Awards winner, singer-songwriter and country-pop star Taylor Swift is living every teenager’s dream. Born in a small town, she changed the way the current generation perceived country music. Being compared to the likes of legendary country artists such as Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, Swift was only sixteen when she released her debut album. She is not only a great vocalist, but can also skillfully play instruments such as the guitar, piano and ukulele. She is the only female artist to have won two ‘Album of the Year’ awards at the Grammy’s. Her chart-busters like ‘Love Story’ and ‘You Belong with Me’ brought her global recognition. With the release of every album, she breaks her own record. She is an inspiration to several aspiring artists. Not only is she listed in the platinum-selling albums of all time, she also embodies compassion as she has extended unending support to several charitable organizations
[Miracle Fat] Consuming more olive oil lowers the probability of dying from dementia, researchers at the Harvard School of Public Health found. The team analyzed the diets of 92,383 health care professionals over 28 years and determined that consuming at least half a tablespoon of olive oil per day is associated with a 28% lower risk of dementia-related death, compared with those who never or rarely consume the oil. They also found that swapping one teaspoon of mayonnaise for olive oil lowers the risk of dying of dementia by 14%. But beware, each tablespoon contains 28 grams of fat.
[From the Right Guy] It really pains me to write this, but I feel that I must.  There is currently the noxious aroma of mendacity surrounding certain persons and events that are occurring in the halls of governance of Monroe County.  It permeates the Florida Keys.

One involves a relative newcomer to the Keys, she is a Republican, who has decided to run for the vitally important Office of Supervisor of Elections.  That office is partisan, it is vied for by Republicans and Democrats.  The current office holder is a Democrat, who has done an excellent job for many years.  She has chosen not to seek reelection.  I write this even though I am a staunch Republican.

The candidate in question is Sherri Hodies.  She is a registered Republican.  We know little about Ms. Hodies.  Her posted web page does not tell us where she is from, how long she lived there, and only the most ephemeral details of her employment history.  It claims that she holds two Master’s degrees and two Bachelor degrees.   She does not tell us where she earned the degrees, nor their field.  But it is now reported that she has recently stated that she does NOT hold any Masters degree.  She is reported to have claimed to have actually worked for the current Supervisor of Elections for five years.  A claim that would suggest knowledge of the workings of the office.   But the Supervisor of Elections denies that Hodies was her employee and demanded a retraction.  According to reports Hodie did retract and offered an explanation that she had actually ‘called’ other Supervisors of Elections and therefore was well acquainted with the operation of the office.

The Hodies candidacy reeks.  Incredibly, she was endorsed by the Republican Executive Committee even though she failed to garner the rules required majority vote, and   there is another Republican candidate.  Any endorsement by the committee prior to the primary is contrary to the unwritten, but long standing rule prohibiting such endorsement.  To quote Big Daddy: “There ain’t nothing more powerful than the odor of mendacity!”

The integrity of Supervisor of Elections offices is absolutely vital to the functioning of our Republic.  It demands that the office holder have the highest ethical and administrative skills.   Ms. Hodies fails on both.  Personally, I recommend Margaret Romero.

I just read an article about seeing Great White Sharks (a cold water species) being spotted off the shores of Alabama and Mississippi. Strange? What are cold water sharks doing in the northern waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Are they a harbinger of the climate becoming cooler as predicted by numerous scientists. Do animals have a better understanding of climate than humans do?  I guess so, as they have survived much longer than humans have.
