| [Security Cameras] Is there a local company who installs home security cameras not affiliated with the national companies. When I contacted them it seemed that all they are interested in is alarming my house. I don’t want that. I need a camera or two at the driveway entrance 200 feet away and hidden from the house by trees. |
 This week we celebrated Earth Day, the largest secular observance in the world, celebrated by more than a billion people, all to support the idea that our planet’s environment is worth protecting. That would seem self-evident, since it is the only habitable planet in our Solar System, so it makes sense to take care of it. You would think that we would be as protective about that as we would be ensuring the safety of our own homes, Earth being our own home, and all.
And in some respects, we’re better off today than we were in the recent past: In the United States, for instance, air and water quality are better today, thanks to tougher environmental regulations. And it is also true that the cost of renewable energy has dropped dramatically (81 percent since 2009), making clean energy more viable. And globally, we have increased leafy green areas on the planet by about 5 percent in the last couple of decades, and deforestation is dropping, although not by nearly enough in places such as the Amazon. |

| [“Blonde blows up minivan”] I was almost done getting gas when I noticed a moron leaning against the propane tank at the Shell station on Big Pine. I quickly finished and got out of there as fast as I could. I didn’t say anything because I had no authority he would recognize, even common sense would be lost on him and he would only get angry at me. |

| [Friday Joke] Scientists at Rolls Royce built a gun specifically to launch dead chickens at the windshields of airliners and military jets all travelling at maximum velocity. The idea is to simulate the frequent incidents of collisions with airborne fowl to test the strength of the windshields. American engineers heard about the gun and were eager to test it on the Windshields of their new high-speed trains. Arrangements were made, and a gun was sent to the American engineers. When the gun was fired, the engineers stood shocked as the chicken hurled out of the barrel, crashed into the shatterproof shield, smashed it to smithereens, blasted through the control console, snapped the engineer’s back-rest in two and embedded itself in the back wall of the cabin like an arrow shot from a bow. The horrified Yanks sent Rolls Royce the disastrous results of the experiment, along with the designs of the windshield and begged the British scientists for suggestions. Rolls Royce responded with a one-line memo: “Defrost the chicken.” |

Fear-mongering and throwing around comparisons to extreme historical events just creates chaos and confusion. Stick to facts. If there are real issues, address them clearly instead of inflating the situation and scaring people unnecessarily. |
