(Editor: I’m sorry but I lost the entire Coconut Telegraph today by inadvertently clicking on ‘Delete’ instead of ‘save’. Bummer, so this will be an abbreviated CT. I had to use my emergency saved-for-a-rainy-day posts)
[No Tax on Tips] This is an industry plant. Trump’s “populist” policy is backed by the National Restaurant Association—probably because it won’t stop establishments from paying servers below the minimum wage. Link
[CIA Whorehouse] This secret CIA program sounds like a conspiracy theory. Every wild detail is 100% true. No one inside the agency’s fake brothel knew they were being watched—or that their drinks had been laced. Video
How can I play the car radio with the motor turned off? I have a push button start instead of a key (to turn to the accessory position).
How was the Universal Pictures 1936 opening logo created? Comparing to their previous logos, it has so many moving parts, transparency, and reflections everywhere, and I would really like to know how it was made. Strange enough, I seem to be the only one because my cursory internet search did not uncover anything.
I extracted the relevant opening sequence from the arbitrarily chosen movie Shadow of a Doubt from 1943 and put it on YouTube: Video
[Satellites] There are 4,550 satellites in orbit. Who owns them? Link
[Sockette] A men’s only club in Sydney has banned sockettes. Is it Victorian-era modesty or fashion policing below the ankle? The Australian Club, the oldest gentlemen’s club in the southern hemisphere, has drawn the line at the ankle. Hold my prosecco and plate of canapes, do I have a story for you. According to the Australian Financial Review, the elite private members Australian Club in Sydney has embarked on a war on men’s socks, and the common sockette is in the firing line. Link
Stock markets fall after US announces new rates on 92 countries. 10% tariffs on goods imported from all countries bar those from 92 nations subject to higher levies; Mark Carney says Canada will ‘diversify’ its export markets. Link

[Mistaken Vodka Soda] The cans say ‘Celsius,’ but they might contain vodka seltzer. There’s a recall. Even if not purchased in a High Noon Beach Variety pack, consumers should be advised to ensure their Celsius Astro Vibe Energy Drink, Sparkling Blue Razz Edition does not contain the lot Nos. [Hans Christian Andersen] 150 years of the bizarre Hans Christian Andersen. His oddball stories were driven by his outsider status and strange appearance.
There once was an ugly duckling, so despised by the other birds that he fled the farm to explore the wider world. But because of his very great ugliness he was taunted there too, until one day he caught his image reflected in a pond and he had turned into a beautiful swan. The Ugly Duckling, first published in 1843, was one of Hans Christian Andersen’s many autobiographical fairy tales: “It matters nothing if one is born in a duck-yard,” he wrote, “if one has lain in a swan’s egg.” Link

[Friday Joke] It’s the World Cup Final, and a man makes his way to his seat right next to the pitch. He sits down, noticing that the seat next to him is empty. He leans over and asks the guy on the other side of the empty seat if someone will be sitting there. The guy shakes his head and says, “No. The seat’s empty.” The man can’t believe what he’s hearing. “Who in their right mind would have a seat like this for the Final and not use it?” The other guy says, “Well, actually, the seat belongs to me. I was supposed to come with my wife, but she passed away. This will be the first World Cup Final we haven’t been to together since we got married.” The man says, “I’m so sorry to hear that, buddy. That’s terrible, but couldn’t you find someone else to come with you? A friend, a relative, or even a neighbor to take her seat?” The man shakes his head. “No,” he says. “They’re all at the funeral.”
