[Assassination Attempt] Why did the Secret Service pause for at least five seconds for photo opportunities before whisking Trump off the stage? He was fully exposed for from 5 to 9 seconds while the Secret Service took him down the steps, then they paused again, fully exposing him for another fist-raising photo op before loading him into the car. Why didn’t they assume there was a second or third assassin? It gets curiouser and curiouser.
I bought some vegan boots. Very stylish and good looking, but because they are not leather, they won’t conform to my feet. There is no ‘break-in’ time, they always stay stiff. After a year they are still super stiff and unforgiving on my poor feet, but they do look good. I guess they’re another item for the trash heap.
[Snake Bite] A railroad worker in India retaliated against a snake that bit him, chomping down on the reptile and killing it. Santosh Lohar, 35, was attacked earlier this month while working in a forest, and immediately fought back, sinking his teeth into the snake. In Lohar’s village, there’s a “belief that if a snake bites you, you must bite it back twice to neutralize the venom,” he told India Today. After killing the snake, Lohar went to a local hospital for treatment and recovered.
I saw a new black Corvette at the light on Big Pine, but when I pulled up to it, I saw the emblem on the trunk was Cadilliac. But it looked like a Corvette.
[Malaria Vaccine] Babies in the Ivory Coast and South Sudan will begin receiving doses of the world’s first affordable malaria vaccine from today. R21, approved for children under three, costs around $4 a dose and is up to 79% effective at preventing the disease. Fifteen African countries will have introduced the R21 vaccine by the end of the year, with another 15 due to follow. Trials for pregnant women will start in the coming weeks.
The war against AI bots is really about privacy versus money. Artificial intelligence bots are running rampant on the internet as they scour for data to train language models. Much of that data includes content created by real-deal humans, and many are unhappy with their data being used in that way. To combat this, companies are creating tools to prevent AI bots’ data access.
[Face Off] How criminals are getting new faces in the Philippines. Hair transplant tools, dental implants and skin-whitening IV drips have been seized from an underground clinic in the Philippines suspected of helping criminals transform their identities to avoid arrest. Police raided the clinic in Pasay City, south of Manila, in May, and two larger facilities look likely to be closed down over the next few weeks.
[Sanctions] Can anyone tell us when sanctions have ever worked? Iran’s economy grew 3.8% last year and Russia’s grew 3.2%. Sanctioned countries just get new customers and grow.
I have a woodpecker on my roof that sounds like someone knocking on my door. I answer the door daily and there’s no one there.
[For Night Owls] After new research suggested that staying up late may be good for cognitive function, making people who turn in late “sharper than those who go to bed early,” said The Guardian. Researchers led by academics at Imperial College London analyzed data from the U.K. Biobank study on over 26,000 people who completed intelligence, reasoning, reaction time and memory tests. They found that those who stayed up late and those classed as “intermediate” had “superior cognitive function,” while those who called it a night earlier had the lowest scores.
[Childcare] Expand kindergarten to pre-kindergarten and pre-pre-kindergarten to provide daycare for working mothers. The infrastructure is already there. Daycare is the biggest problem for working parents with little ones. Some mothers work just to pay for childcare and some continue working so they won’t lose their position at work when they do find a cheap babysitter.
[AT&T Hacked] The company said today that hackers stole six months’ worth of call and text message records from “nearly all” of its customers. What users should know. Video

[Pirate Certificate] The Massachusetts Institute of Technology offers a “pirate certificate” to students who complete the archery, sailing, fencing, and pistol or rifle shooting courses. (Next, they’ll have courses on how to waste parent’s money on useless schooling.) Link
[Assassination Attempt] Hello, Florida Keys community! In these trying times, it’s more important than ever for us to come together as neighbors and friends after Mr. Trump’s assassination attempt. The recent events have been a wake-up call to all of us about the dangers of political division. Let’s set an example by promoting unity and understanding, rather than division. We all share this beautiful paradise, and together, we can ensure it remains a peaceful and welcoming place for everyone, regardless of our differences. Let’s lead with kindness and compassion, and stop the cycle of political prosecution and retaliation. Together, we are stronger!
Millions of crabs scuttle across this island every year. Almost nothing can stop the Christmas Island crustaceans. Imagine the “crunch, crunch” driving down the road.
It takes a special person to wake up early and still be late.
Shannen Doherty, a star of 1990s TV hits “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Charmed,” died Saturday of cancer, her publicist said Sunday. She was 53. Doherty was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. It went into remission, returned in 2019, spread to her brain last year and then to her bones. Link

I thought that the Alex Baldwin trial was for involuntary manslaughter not who brought the live ammo to the scene. In my opinion the question should have been, who was holding the single-action Colt? Who didn’t check to see that there was no ammo in the cylinders? Who pointed at the victim? Who cocked the hammer? Who pulled the trigger?  If you are a big enough elite, things are bent in your favor. Alex Baldwin is responsible and should be sent to jail. But I might be wrong.

[Katy Perry’s Album Bombed] The pop star’s comeback record, “Woman’s World,” has fallen flat with critics. The single is a “vapid attempt at female empowerment,” Business Insider said. The song was co-written and co-produced by Dr. Luke, who has been accused of sexual abuse, adding to the irony.

From there, Monroe County Fire Rescue paramedics flew him by helicopter ambulance to a hospital in Miami-Dade County. The victim reportedly was alert and responsive at the time of the airlift. His immediate condition was not clear at the time of this release. Link
[Assassination Attempt] How could the Secret Service not consider rooftop snipers as a threat? Did they not remember that a sniper can hit a bullseye from a mile away? Something’s fishy in all this. Oh boy, more conspiracies, as if we needed more!
How to recognize the early signs of Alzheimer’s Disease. The number of Americans with Alzheimer’s stands at around 7 million right now, but that number is projected to grow to nearly 13 million by 2050. For those of us with aging loved ones, it’s understandable that we want to protect their health and preserve their memory as long as possible. We’re all looking for ways to recognize the signs and prevent this common age-related disease. Link
