[Ignored by Red Tape] Many years ago my wife and I purchased the lot next door to our home. I finally got to retire. I now have time to go for permits to fill the lot and have a boat ramp put in. I have approvals from everyone but one: The Army Corps. The project manager told us that he is waiting for clearance from The Marine Sanctuary. I have emailed and called the Sanctuary with no response. If anyone out here in the Keys has had this problem and or solved it, please let me know.

[Food Drive] Dozens of partner collection sites across the Keys [Editor: where?] will open their doors to accept non-perishable food donations through Friday, October 17 – the official Feed the Keys Day! On that day, community members are encouraged to stop by one of the three main collection sites in the Upper, Middle, or Lower Keys [Editor: where?] between 2-6 p.m. to drop off their donations and be part of this Keys-wide effort to fight hunger.
[I’ve Fallen And I Can’t Get Up] Falling can be fatal. Here’s how to reduce your risk as you age. Falls are the leading cause of injury-related death in over-65s, but targeted exercises can improve your strength and balance in just ten minutes a day. Link
[Polluted Lake] Lake Okeechobee is known as the largest freshwater lake in the state of Florida, but a new study also ranks it as the “dirtiest lake in the country,” WPBF-TV reported last month. The finding came from an unlikely source: a website called “Lake.com,” which promotes vacation rentals on or near the water. But these folks did their homework. They evaluated the 100 largest lakes in the nation using chemical data from the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Water Quality Monitoring Council from January 2020 to July 2025.

[Exercise-Induced Orgasm] Weird ailments that exercise can trigger. Runny noses, black toenails, and ‘coregasms’. For some people, exercise can induce sexual pleasure – an exercise-induced orgasm or “coregasm.” While abdominal and core muscle exercises are common triggers, they aren’t the only exercises that can induce one. Some people have reported experiencing them while cycling, weight lifting, running, doing yoga or even walking.

[Guns] I’m old enough to remember “open carry” in California. About 20 Black Panthers walked down the street doing this. Funny how they changed the law right after that!

[Screen Addiction] On average, people spend 4 hours and 37 minutes on their phones per day, with South Africans coming in fourth highest in the world at a whopping 5 hours and 11 minutes. This figure seems really high to me. If we assume people sleep roughly 8 hours per day, that means that one third of their day is spent on their phones. If we also assume people work 8 hours per day (ignoring the fact that they may be using their phones during work hours), that suggests that people spend over half of their free time (and up to 65% of it) glued to their screens.
