 [Deer Death Count] I would like to play devil’s advocate. At first glance at the deer death map for Big Pine looks horrible. I counted approximately 225 dots on the map. When divided by 4 years it is not that many deer. With no hunting and no natural predators, a death count of approximately 60 deer a year is barely enough to prevent overpopulation. I realize that this doesn’t account for populations on other Keys but I am making the assumption that the rates are similar. |
| [Newspaper’s Decline] The Miami Herald’s owner, McClatchy Media, announced it was firing more than a third of the newspaper’s editorial staff, about 30 people. Now that same legendary news organization has fewer than 60 editorial staff members left? You can’t properly cover a metropolis like Miami with a newsroom that small. It’s a shame. |
 Fuel sucks right now but in the long run being nuked would suck more. I hope that the greed of the oil companies can be brought to heel. My diesel truck will just have to wait for a fill up for now. Speaking of greed, the max price difference in fuel from one side of the 7 Mile Bridge to the other was exactly 90 cents last week. Summerland Shell was $4.99 and Coco Plumb Chevron was $4.09. That is a an abuse. |

 [Smoke Alarms] They don’t have on/off switches for some kind of safety reason, but that is self-defeating. When the alarm goes off most people bash it to shut it up. We have tenants and all smoke alarms need to be replaced when they move because every tenant removes them at some point. We do the same. We’ve bought just about every kind with no luck. There are places in our house where the alarms were that I removed because I couldn’t shut them up. So my question is are our homes safer without a smoke alarm because you can’t turn them off and folks throw them out or if there was an on/off switch that could be turned back on after the smoke has cleared or the false alarm cleared? |

 Why is the inflation rate such a big deal? The current rate of 3.4% doesn’t sound like a lot. To put it in perspective, since 2020 your dollar has lost 23% due to inflation! So that dollar in your wallet, your savings, your investments is now only worth 77 cents. That’s a huge deal.It’s also a huge deal when you realize that increasing interest rates to counter inflation causes the National Debt ($40 Trillion) to rise significantly. In fact, now, for every dollar you pay in taxes, more goes to pay the interest on the national debt then gets allocated to defense spending. |

These charges are optional but are added automatically to the bill and must be removed manually. Carnival also increased its nonalcoholic beverage package to $11.99 daily, plus a 20% gratuity.
