[“Marathon Vet Hospital”] To the poster ragging about the cost – shame on you. You obviously have never had an emergency in the middle of the night. They have always been there for us. The facility supports a very large and caring staff and some of the best vet care around. You pay for what you get and when other vets give up, MVH finds the cure. Kudos and thanks to Dr. Mader, Doc Jackie and the fine staff. We’ll see you soon.

[Doping] I think it is just terrible and disgusting how everyone has treated Lance Armstrong, especially after what he achieved, winning seven Tour de France races while on drugs. When I was on drugs, I couldn’t even find my bike.

[Plan Ahead] You do not need a parachute to sky dive, unless you wish to sky dive more than once.

an_goldfish_bowl[Plankton?] What are those little rust-colored slivers that were suspended in the water off Looe Key yesterday. They were about 3/13 inch to 1/4 inch long and appeared to be tapered at both ends. I expect they are plankton or krill, but that’s why I’m asking. I think they were food because there were loads of big and small fish in the area, jewfish, grouper, and sharks. The sea was flat, the water was clear and it was like swimming in a giant aquarium. It doesn’t get any better then this!

an_star_flip[“Ho Chi Minh”] Sunday FTR guy wrote about the general who was one of the greatest generals in history. Americans only hear of the great exploits of Generals like Patton and Rommel, but Ho Chi Minh was the greatest. He was able to badly defeat two of the best equipped military industrial complexes in the world with poorly equipped and supplied troops. He had ‘right’ on his side and was able to keep the people of Vietnam motivated enough to beat France and latter the USA.

an_vet5[Marathon Animal Hospital] I read the comment about the Marathon Animal Hospital and was absolutely floored. As a client of MVH for many years now, I want to say how thankful I am for their services! I had several companion animals when I moved here (still do) so I tried a few vets until I settled on MVH. The degree of competency, caring, and professionalism has been unmatched in my own personal experiences. I am thrilled to see all the new services that are offered in the new building. I have faced down emergencies with my animals in the middle of the night or on holidays, and it’s a horrible situation to be in without critical care available, or to have to drive hours to get somewhere that specializes. To attack a business on it’s fees as the only barometer is unfair. I own and operate a small business down here too. The cost of doing business in the Keys is high. If someone doesn’t like my own fees, I expect them to take their business where they will personally be happy; and to the commenter who griped about fees, simply go somewhere else. I expect others would do that with any service related business, it’s part of what is called free enterprise. Also, the work that Dr. Mader & Dr. Dielthem do to educate and mentor others is extraordinary, and at times requires travel. I know how hard they work, you are cruel and misinformed to make such a sarcastic comment about their trips or, quite frankly, the trips of anyone else other than you. They show a firm commitment to our Keys community by doing what they’ve done. They’ve been here a long time, and obviously plan to be here a long time based upon their huge investment in their business. Thank you Dr. Diethlem and Dr. Mader, and to everyone at MVH. You’ve provided excellent skilled care, always with compassion, to my beloved animal family through the years, and I wish you all nothing but the best at your new location. I will remain a customer of theirs as long as they are willing and able to care for my extended animal family! I love you guys!

I forgot to mention how much charitable work they do. They donate so much care to the Turtle Hospital, The Sheriff’s Animal Farm, and who knows where else, assisting animals in distress. My gosh, what the heck is wrong with some people. You don’t like them, just go somewhere else. As for me, like I said, I’m grateful for every moment of care my animals have received from them, and look forward to being a client with that hospital for a very long time.

[Grinder Pumps] My question on the grinder pumps is that many of us are only here in the winter. This means the grinder pump and ‘contents’ is shut off for 6 months or more. I would suggest that all the snowbirds use tons of water before they leave in the hopes that the grinder pump has less goop than usual and will not solidify to an immovable mass upon arrival next season.

I for one will have my neighbors possibly start up the electric and run a lot of water to fill up the darn thing and keep it working? Has anyone addressed this particular problem yet?

[“Why is a gravity system more expensive”] Easy. Dig a 3 ft deep, 2 ft wide trench at the end of the street, slope it down to the bottom of the 7 ft lift station. Lift the poop back to 3 ft, let it slide down the new trench to the next lift station. Fill the trenches with concrete.. Pave the road. Repeat hundreds of times. Dig a small trench along the road to connect all the lift stations from the pump house to provide power for the lift stations to actually lift .

For the grinder pumps, dig a 3 ft deep 8 inch wide trench by the side of the road. Plant grass.

[“If I put a bell on my indoor cat can she go out”] I already tried this as I thought my 2 indoor cats might like some outside play time. I put on the bells which neither cat was too pleased about, then opened the door for them to go out. They both walked out onto the porch, blinked their eyes as the sunshine was quite bright, then promptly ran back inside and jumped back in their kitty beds. It seems that they wanted no part of not having their AC. Now their bells have become quite annoying as they ring them any time they want something.

[“The Monster We Created –protected marine zones could be greatly expanded by the National Marine Sanctuary”] I still have a “Just Say NO to NOAA” pin. I was against the gawddamnedcoralhuggers from the beginning.

The last thing the Keys needed was a bunch of overeducated academics coming down here to save the reef. One of the first things they did was run a research vessel up onto Looe Key that destroyed a portion of the reef they were supposedly here to save.

All we’ve gotten from NOAA is a bunch of rules, regs and boundaries and a bunch of underpaid and way under-educated sanctuary law enforcers working minimal paying state jobs that they can retire from in 20 years yet still live off us.

Just say NO to NOAA and those who do their dirty work.

[Vietnam Invades Florida] Deer FTR, We weren’t in Vietnam to try to “free” them as you write. They were trying to free themselves from the French and then latter the American invaders. We were the bad guys. How come you don’t get anything?

How would you feel if the French landed in Florida and colonized us? Would you fight? Yes, I think you would. The Vietnamese people are a peaceful people, that’s why the French were able to force them into submission. The Vietnamese eventually had enough subjugation and organized and drove the French out. Then the French’s former lackey Vietnamese government asked for America’s help to continue the subjugation and the real Vietnamese beat the Americans too. Now under Communism they prosper and are freer than they have been in a century. It’s understandable that we don’t like Communism, but they have benefited from it more then they had when the French dominated them.

[The Future Looks Bright] The Stock Market is soaring, but, according to some, this fact has nothing to do with record corporate profits, car sales through the roof, home sales climbing, and tourism at never seen before numbers.

FTR wrote yesterday, “600k Americans died trying to free that nation.” He was talking about Vietnam. 56,000 died. If I wrote that, FTR would call me a liar. We weren’t trying to “free” them. Stop making shit up. You are getting more senile.

[Democrats Bad] It’s always a little galling (not to mention hilarious) for those of us on the right to reflect that the Democratic Party — the party of slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, and family-destroying social programs — the party of Detroit, New Orleans, Newark, and Baltimore — the party that facilitates a black abortion rate that would bring a smile to the face of Planned Parenthood’s genocidally racist founder — has somehow managed to sell itself to African Americans as the friend of black people!

But it’s beginning to be equally galling (and equally comic) to reflect that the Democrats have also contrived to present themselves as the party of women.

This is the party whose most powerful senator left his probable mistress to drown after a car accident; the party whose most popular living president is a serial philanderer and accused rapist; the party whose most prominent woman rose to that prominence by virtue of her stand-by-your-man loyalty to a louse; and now the party of Anthony Weiner and Eliot Spitzer, two men who have humiliated their wives with truly creepy behavior and yet seek to continue their political careers regardless.

[Obamacare] You tout that insurance rates will be cheaper under this grand scheme then you quote that a twenty-one year old can buy insurance for $93 a month. Considering that this age group does not buy medical insurance that is a lot of money. Almost $1200 a year for nothing extra than I have had for 30 years. Most people do not get insurance till they are in their 40’s.

Yes I do know many more kids will be buying insurance because, like auto insurance, they are forced to under Obamacare, but will they? and who is going to make sure they do?

Why has my health insurance gone up to $1200 per month and I am subject to a tax because I have a ‘Cadillac’ insurance plan? Could it be because I am in my sixties?

Even the unions now are protesting Obamacare. This is going to be another great mess socialism is trying to drag me into.

How about all the companies in America switching over to 30 hour or less weeks for their people. Oh yeah, part time employees are not subject to Obamacare. So quit wondering why the 40 hours week is disappearing and know this is not going to work!

eliot29[New York Politics] In my long ago past I lived in both Long Island and upstate central NY (1/2 hr from Canadian border).  I am a veteran of NY politics and politicians.

I know Terry McAuliffe (D) from when he lived in Skaneateles, and was involved in central NY political fund raising, and candidate / elected officials organizing.  McAuliffe has no “shining knight” status with us central NY’ers.  Some of us may be farmers, some business people, but one thing we have in common – we all know manure when we see, smell and hear it.  Hopefully VA voters will be as astute.

History note – Clinton in White House, McAuliffe in Skaneateles = a lot of national democrat visits to central NY as never before occurred. A central NY State Assemblyman invited to White House for weekend – unheard of previously.  Many of us central NY’ers watched a huge wave of national activity and attention crash over upstate NY.  All McAuliffe driven. Final drum crescendo – Clinton     anoints McAuliffe head of Dem party.  The pay off was obvious, and so was the outcome for the dem party. Everything within McAuliffe’s affect declines, badly.

More history from NY state – Many years ago, Anthony Weiner allegedly briefly contemplated a US Senate primary against Hillary. Instead a few years later he married Huma, Hillary’s aide. There are many wires connecting Bill,Terry, Hillary, Anthony and Huma.

Weiner is not a viable candidate – scandal aside. The scandal’s jusrt make him an easier target. Minus his personal unstable status,  his records while in office do not reflect any of the qualities or qualifications needed to run NYC.  Weiner is a Long Island softie, shallow and hollow, riding on his parents $$,  not able to stand up to NYC politics. His leadership skills are minus zero.

Eliot Spitzer was a good NY state Atty General and governor. Under his leadership,  the NY Atty Genl’s office was fearless, and successful with his prosecutions of white-collar crime.  Financial fraud, illegal business operations, bilking schemes all tumbled.  Those kinds of skills don’t disappear. He will be a good Controller and serve NYC well.  And he will get elected, because my people (all NY Dems) can separate scandal from service (see “manure” above). We know substance when we see it.

from the right

OBAMA-MONSTROUSLY-BADMr. Obama’s speech the other day did contain some very interesting claims. He whined that his mission was being assaulted by “phony scandals”. The suggestion being that the Republicans have fabricated wrongdoing on his admins part, and the attendant publicity has negatively affected our recovery. Deer Friends, our recession was over 5 years ago, long before any of the latest scandals hit the fan. Have we recovered? NO!

Certainly he was speaking of the deadly and shameful Benghazi screw up, of the IRS being used as a political weapon, seizing e mails and phone records from journalists, and the incredible expansion of the NSA’s homeland surveillance of all of us.  Is there anyone who believes that none of the above is true?

There is no doubt but that Benghazi occurred. There is no doubt but that 4 Americans, one of which was the first Ambassador in decades was murdered by terrorists. There is no doubt that no timely military aid was sent. There is no doubt but that we were lied to by the Obama admin for days thereafter. There is no doubt but that the facility was not secure, not protected. There is no doubt but that the Ambassador begged for more security. There are damned few missing pieces in the puzzle, and we are being denied those pieces by the Obama administration for strictly political reasons. Then there is the fact that Team Obama has refused to permit involved persons to testify before Congress.  Many have been scattered around the world and been forced to sign new non-disclosure documents. There is no doubt about that. Nothing phony there.

The IRS situation was not a screw up. It was a carefully planned and well executed plot to hammer Obama’s political opposition with the awesome power if the IRS.  Team Obama hammered the Tea Party and other conservative groups seeking tax exempt status.  We know that it is true, the only thing we don’t know for certain is from how far up the chain of command the plot originated. We know for certain that at least one very high ranking IRS official has invoked Fifth Amendment Rights. We know for certain that her boss had an extended audience with Obama very shortly before the assault began. There is no doubt about any of that, no phony scandal there.

Then there is the fact that the Obama is engaging in the most massive and extensive intrusion into your personal lives. They are calling it “metadata”. It provides the government with access to every phone number you have dialed. Now the government has access to every email you have sent or received, and the entirety of your e mail address book. The press is not immune, at least not Fox News. Team Obama labeled a Fox newscaster as a threat to our national security in  a court filing. That newscaster is critical of Team Obama. We are not aware of any such attack on newscasters who are Obama friendly.  Team Obama’s NSA is building a massive computer center in Utah that costs $1.5 billion and is 7 times the size of the Pentagon in order to house the computing power it feels it needs. How much of that power is directed at our enemies, and how much of that is directed at people and institutions that are critical of Obama? Do you remember that it was no so long ago that Mr. Obama declared that all of the above demanded a full and complete investigation? Even given all of that we have suffered terrorist attacks on US soil. Boston, Times Square,  and Ft. Hood spring to mind.

Deer Friends, DC is chock full of phonies. The biggest phony of all is Mr. Obama.  Obama and his sycophants are doing all in their power to simply change the subject!

Obamacare29Part 2) Deer Friends, I really can’t fathom why some folks post what they post. One such posting was yesterday which puffed that:  “[Obamacare is Working] Now that the reality of Obamacare is starting to take effect states are starting to brag about the lower rates folks will be paying. The latest state is Maryland. Maryland will have one of the cheapest health insurance rates in the country.”

The data in that posting was taken directly from a Huffington Post article dated 7/26.  I suggest that you educate yourselves to the full facts. The facts are that some policies in Md. will increase in price by as much as 25%. The new rate schedule provides grist for both sides of the ObamaCare debate: prices for many consumers will go up next year.

The cheapest policy available to a 25-year-old in Maryland will cost roughly $114 per month, according to the state’s rate filings. That’s among the cheapest rates in the country for a comparable policy, even though it still represents a substantial increase compared with bare-bones policies on the market today. Today the cheapest rate for a 30 y/o in Md. is about $62. The question is will the 25 y/o pay the new and higher insurance premium, or will s/he opt to pay the much smaller fine. You know the answer to that. Another question is does a 25 y/o really need massive coverage? Yep, Md is more proof positive that Obamacare will take from the young to give to the old. In any event, about 75% of all Marylanders will get tax rebates for their premiums. Watch for ever decreasing net tax revenues which will inevitably lead to yet more debt. That’s just a fact.

Breaking News: Anthony Weiner’s already limp NYC mayoral campaign suffered another bad blow yesterday, when his campaign manager pulled out. Nonetheless Weiner did his best to stand firm against all comers yesterday, spending much of the day in his apartment shooting a campaign ad. A really bad bounce for “Carlos Danger”. Democrat peter tweeter extraordinaire. Link
