Monday, late in the afternoon.
[Dangerous Light] A driver was stopped at the Sugarloaf School red light at 7:50 a.m. and an 18 year old in a BMW hit him doing about 45 plus mph.  He said he spilled his coffee and didn’t see the light or the stopped car.  No serious injuries, luckily.  His car is totalled. The stopped driver is keeping his fingers crossed that his can be fixed.
[Crook] The daughter of former Monroe County Sheriff Bob Peryam was arrested Monday on warrants stemming an April 23 incident in which a roommate accused her of stealing jewelry, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Allison Peryam, 27, was charged with burglary, grand theft, dealing in stolen property and fraud. Peryam had been in a substance abuse treatment center in Broward County in 2012 as part of a drug court-ordered program.

Sheriff Peryam accepted a position in 2013 as the executive director of North Florida High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area group.  ~The Citizen

Bigoted team owner Donald Sterling was banned for life by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and may have to sell his team, the LA Clippers, after they heartily won the playoffs last night.
[Snowbirds Revenge] It’s that time of the year again for the Keys’ year round residents. The time of spring when we come out of the rather cooler than normal months of bliss, where the weather is nice and the money is flowing, to start the rest of the year where we suffer with intense heat and a poorer tourist economy. The heat causes the seasonal people to run home for wonderful cool spring weather and sprouting life in abundance, leaving us diehards behind sitting in front of air conditioners and craving for a vacation in the mountains to get relief. I call it “Snowbirds Revenge” for the fact that we likely mistreated them some, while they were here, secretly jealous about their wealth and ability to enjoy the best weather in two, or even more, locations when we can’t afford to do the same.
[Saks’ Prison Labor Force] Stephanie Wilson was reaching for a receipt inside a paper shopping bag from Saks Fifth Avenue when she found a letter pleading, “HELP HELP HELP.”

The message, written in blue ink on white lined paper, appeared to be a desperate cry from a man who said he made the bag while being unfairly held in a Chinese prison factory more than 7,000 miles away.

“We are ill-treated and work like slaves for 13 hours every day producing these bags in bulk in the prison factory,” continued the letter, which was tucked into the bottom of the bag. It ended, “Thanks and sorry to bother you.”

The Keys will be ours
for the next few weeks. It’s that time of the year, school is still in session and our visitors have gone or are going home. It’s not like you remember it as a kid or even 10 years ago. We have grown up. The Keys, America’s Out Islands are on the bucket list of many folks. We stay busy year around. It’s still one of the most beautiful places on this earth. Have a blessed day.   ~Coconuts Bar & Liquor store.

[“FOX News”] To the guy pointing out FOX’s bias, he should watch MSNBC and see the bias from the other side. I did watch FOX Sunday when one of the talking heads said they favored the Right. That was the first time I watched anyone of them actually admit they were biased. Kudos to them for that admission. Why pretend “fair and balanced” when they’re not? Only the Right believes they are.
Sheriff Peryam’s daughter getting arrested again reminds me of when Mayor Sonny McCoy’s daughter used to get arrested a lot.

[“Basketball’s racist remarks”] So sad that some people don’t realize that black people live in a world where many white people have always judged them by different rules. Also some white people assume their racist posts have not been as veiled as they think.
Execution botched. Man suffers excruciating pain and dies of a heart attack when death drug-line bursts. Link
[“No native grass in Keys”]
Au contraire, monsieur! All the mangrove islands offshore that have land, have native grass. This picture is of Boca Grande.
[“Doobie Brothers”] This is my favorite Doobie Brothers’ song. “Another Park, Another Sunday” (1974). It’s truly a great melody, drifting to another time and era. See you in Key West for the Doobies on Saturday. Peace.

Doobie Brothers — Another Park, Another Sunday

[“LA Clippers Owner”] This is a national joke because the sports industry has always been a slave based operation from the old days onward. I mean old days like 3000 years ago. Remember Rome? There is nothing more gratifying except sex, than watching some fools perform for you by knocking each other’s heads off or playing kids’ games to entertain a mass of seated idiots that paid a small fortune to cheer on mutated humanity. All sports should be for kids and kept strictly amateur. Put all that sporting energy to work doing something like growing food, or maintaining our cities. In other words, grow up.

[“How Many Have We Killed”] The Senate has quietly stripped a provision from an intelligence bill that would have required President Obama to make public each year the number of people killed or injured in targeted killing operations in Pakistan and other countries where the United States uses lethal force. Members of Key West’s volunteer Citizen Review Board on Monday questioned the use of a police technique that has come under review since the Dec. 4 death of a Michigan man who had clashed with officers during a traffic stop Thanksgiving morning.

A police representative told the panel the department has no policy specific to “prone restraint,” the practice of putting a suspect on his chest in order to handcuff him. (Nothing was mentioned about standing on the prone suspect’s neck). The seven-member CRB was created by voter referendum to review complaints about police misconduct.

[Minimum Wage] How do you manage to get fired the first day in a Winnie the Pooh costume? By putting your costume pants on backwards! What do they expect for minimum wage?
[Bunker Mentality]  I can’t get the guy’s post out of my mind where he criticized people for thinking about one human family and saying time would be better spent on protecting themselves and securing their stuff or some kind of self-centered nonsense. Sir, the world is like it is because of people like you and FTR who think only of yourselves and never about others, other than token lip-service. Like the great LA intelectual, Rodney King, once said, “Why can’t we all get along?” It is because of people like you who would rather shoot than help?
You Fox Newsers and Tea Partiers better wake up to the fact that our Government is not perfect but it is the best one there ever was,  and if we are very lucky you and your ilk will never get control of it.  Sometimes you just don’t appreciate what you have until it’s gone.

All the hacking that’s going on to ruin our computers, put people in danger, steal our money and yet the laws do little to curb these mutants. Most of the viruses come from our enemies in countries we cannot get to so why not just cut them off from the web, WiFi, phones and anyway they can communicate with our hardware? Or better that that hire the Mafia to track them down a break a few fingers and legs!

Obama’s popularity rating has just gone up. I’m not trying to go around Ed’s national politics ban, I’m just trying to piss off the FTR Guy and see how he will spin the fact.

overseas-new-sign00The old Overseas Liquor & Lounge in Marathon, closed since 2008 after operating for 59 years, is showing signs of new life, as a sign reminiscent of the old one went up Monday on top of the building at mile marker 48.5.

Owner Tim O’Connell has already removed dilapidated trailers and wooden cottages that sat adjacent to and behind the property. He plans to make it a family-friendly restaurant with gift shops, an ice cream stand, indoor and outdoor seating, and tree houses for kids to play in outside. He also plans to reopen the package liquor store.

The property made headlines in recent years as the estate of former owner Joseph Ardolino and the city battled in court over whether the right to operate the package store expired after it closed in 2008.

On this date Adolf Hitler commits suicide in 1945. Hitler was probably the worst “general” in history who couldn’t direct his army to fight their way out of a paper bag with any rhyme or reason.

On Apr 30, 1975 South Vietnam surrenders marking the first time the United States lost a war to an enemy that didn’t even have an air force and poorly supplied. The US lost the next two wars too.

Col. Bui Tin said to the beaten Gen. Duong Van Minh, “Between Vietnamese there are no victors and no vanquished. Only the Americans have been beaten. If you are patriots, consider this a moment of joy. The war for our country is over.”  Link

[LA Clippers and Race] A person yesterday said if a Black owner said such things about White players nothing would be mentioned in the media. That’s total BS. Of course they would. Bigotry is not just for Whites any more. It’s time for bigots to wake up to current trends and stop think they are the only ones who hate.
[MetroPCS] Consumer Reports says that AT&T is the worst and Verizon is the best. You can check coverage maps. I have Verizon in the Keys with no problems.

“Emergency Preparedness Information for Grinder Pump Customers” I wonder what the hotel chains, public buildings, restaurants, markets, gas stations, and lets not forget the bars, will do?  Shall we change the name of the Florida Keys to The Stinky Keys now to be ahead of their game?

The Democrats biggest fear concerning the midterm elections is that the disastrous roll out of Democare and the never ending horror stories of how it is punishing individuals with higher premiums, higher deductibles, and a diminished level of health care will guarantee that Democrat voters, even hard core types will stay away from the polls, they will not vote.

But, a new poll by the National Journal tells us that while the foregoing is true and the Democrat fears are well founded, the Democrats have an even more menacing situation to overcome. It is the belief among voters that President Obama’s policies are hurting their chances for prosperity. The poll, finds the president is now stuck with lowest job approval (41 percent) rating of his presidency.

Even worse for the Democrats, the intensity of the disapproval of the president has soared. Now nearly 40% “strongly” disapprove and only about half that “strongly” approve. The belief among voters is that President Obama’s policies are hurting their chances for prosperity.

There is good reason for that belief and for the Democrats dilemma. The glacial recovery from the recession has been managed by Democrat governance. That governance resulted in wiping out primarily high-wage and middle-wage jobs. Yet the strongest employment growth during the sluggish recovery has been in low-wage work, at places like strip malls and fast-food restaurants. In essence, the poor economy has replaced good jobs with bad ones. Fast food is driving the bulk of the job growth at the low end — the job gains there are absolutely phenomenal.

Job losses and gains have been skewed. Higher-wage industries — like accounting and legal work — shed 3.6 million positions during the recession and the recovery have added only 2.6 million positions during the recovery. But lower-wage industries lost two million jobs, then added 3.8 million.” Then off course we must remember that the recession ended 4 years ago and we still have not recovered.

In essence, the poor economy has replaced good jobs with bad ones. Democrat governance has us well on the road to becoming a nation of burger flippers.

Obama is dead meat, he will be gone soon, but his approval/disapproval status with the public has massive impact on the midterms and ultimately on the next presidential election. Both will be referendums on his performance and on the Democrat philosophy of governance.

A POSTER WROTE: “Here we go again. The anti science cult left and their temperature adjustments.

On Thursday, March 13, 2014, the U.S. National Climactic Data Center switched data sets it uses to report long term temperature trends – with a resulting dramatic change in the official U.S. climate record. As seems to always happen when the left  modifies the temperature record, the new version of the record shows a significantly stronger warming trend than the unmodified or, in this case, discarded version.

As will be illustrated in the link  below, in the side by side comparison graphs, the increase in the warming trend in the new data set is largely the consequence of significantly lowering the temperature record in the earlier part of the century, thereby creating a greater “warming” trend.

When the science isn’t on your side…well just change the science. Link

FTR’S RESPONSE: Anyone who watches TV or reads the papers knows that this year’s winter in the USA was brutal, a record breaker. You may not know that the winter was also a nasty weather breaker in Europe. The Met Office (the UK’s NOAA) reports this has been the UK’s coldest March since 1962, with an average temperature 3ºC (5.4 ºF) below normal. Through March 26, the mean national temperature was 2.5ºC, making it the 4th coldest March since records began in 1910. Climate change? You bet, it’s always changing and it always will change.
