[Ethylene] A rotten apple spoils the whole barrel. That’s not just an old adage, it’s a scientific fact. And it all has to do with ethylene, a gas produced internally by a fruit to stimulate ripening. Commercial growers of bromeliads, including pineapple plants, use ethylene to induce flowering. Plants can be induced to flower either by treatment with the gas in a chamber, or by placing a banana peel next to the plant in an enclosed area.

In the Florida Keys, the best time to stimulate pineapple plants to produce fruit is December & January.  Weeks ago, I put apple pieces in every large pineapple plant, but they were all gone in two days; either iguanas or raccoons had a feast. I didn’t have any pineapple blooms yesterday, January 30, so i cut up more apples and placed them.  bananas also produce ethylene, if you don’t have apples

[The Bright Side] The one good thing about diarrhea is it never clogs the toilet.
[The Start of a Legend] The sur-real backstory about the Key West-Havana tunnel. Now you know … the rest of the story. Link
[Exercise] They say that during sex you burn off as many calories as running 8 miles. Who the hell runs 8 miles in 30 seconds?

Que: Did you guys get your shots yet?

No what I hate? Envelopes that stick together. I wish creditors would use self-stick envelopes.
Key West weirdos on bikes. Wearing helmets, lights, safety vest, mirrors and driving electric bikes up one way streets, failing to stop at traffic lights, stops signs, riding on sidewalks, you name it. Do you think, just one day, enforce the laws on these idiots? They are locals, as well as visitors. And God knows some of these people should be walking, jogging, anything. Some don’t need bike seats, they need a saddle!
[Wisdom] No matter how much you tan, you’ll never get darker than your nipples.

[Travel] Jersey girls spotted in London.

[Diving] It’s awesome to see those sea turtles last week. I always feel lucky when I do. If you don’t make eye contact with them they sometimes get in your face until you do. There is no parental investment in sea turtles, they are left on the beach to fend for themselves. So the larger turtle was not the smaller one’s ‘mother’ though. The odds of that would be astronomical.
[Publix Vaccine] The elderly can try to sign up for Covid vaccinations online on Wed & Fri Mornings beginning at 6 a.m. Link

Netflix
raised its price again, the second time in 12 months. They say it’s to give us more value. Is that double talk or what? In 2019 it increased $2. Today it went up another dollar! Link
[“Lights at night”] Why run up your electric bill using flood lights all night? Why advance flood lights’ burning out from over use? Why destroy your (and your neighbors) night sky? Best security option for lights at night: Link
Murmuration” is not what starling migrations are called. YouTube “starling murmuration” to see what they are called. Link

Once you understand why the pizza is made round, packed in a square box, and eaten as a triangle. Then you will understand women.

[From a Man] A woman’s mind is cleaner than a man’s because the air rushing through cleans out the dust and debris sometimes.
[“Light pollution”] The real question is what are these snowbirds afraid of after dark?  Maybe the northern neighborhoods where they live are dangerous at night.  In any event they are ruining the neighborhoods and the night sky down here with their paranoia.  Check out this site to see the impact of light pollution. [Winter Tip 72] If your car falls through the ice in water deeper than 50 feet, remember to slowly exhale while ascending to avoid getting the bends. Also look for walleyes and if possible, note their depth and what they’re feeding on.
[Publix Vaccine Appointments] All available Publix COVID-19 vaccine appointments have been claimed.
