[ Church] I wanted to share my recent email to Mariann Budde’s sermon: I am deeply embarrassed by your comments, Mariann Budde, which reflect a misguided and divisive perspective. As a leader, you should promote unity and reason, not push political narratives that alienate and misrepresent. Your remarks fail to acknowledge broader complexities and instead contribute to unnecessary polarization. It’s disappointing to see someone in your position prioritize ideology over thoughtful discourse. I hope you get reprimanded.  I am a life long Episcopalian who was confirmed at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Astoria, New York and then married at St. Columba Episcopal Church in Marathon, Florida in 2001.
Entering a country illegally is a deliberate violation of law, not an act deserving of mercy. Every sovereign nation has the right to control its borders, and those who cross unlawfully knowingly disregard immigration policies designed to maintain order and security. Granting leniency undermines legal immigration, disrespects those who follow proper channels, and encourages further lawlessness. Borders exist for a reason—to protect resources, ensure public safety, and maintain national sovereignty. Rewarding illegal entry only incentivizes more people to break the law, straining public services and creating dangerous precedents. Those who willingly violate immigration laws should be held accountable, not granted special treatment. You are wrong, Mariann Budde, and I am embarrassed that you represent the Episcopal Church.
[Bench Bum] The Big Pine Key Recreation Center’s Gym is funded by your tax dollars and is a fantastic community resource available to all residents. However, to enjoy this facility you must adhere to the rules and regulations of the gym. Anyone caught using the benches without a towel is subject to a 30-day ban from the gym. Anyone caught sniffing the benches is also subject to a 30-day ban. Unfortunately two bans were written today.
Enforcing deportation policies promotes fairness, enhances public safety by removing those with criminal records, and safeguards employment opportunities for legal residents. The priority should be on strengthening border security and supporting lawful immigration pathways.

[Florida’s Tollway] The first 110-mile segment, known to many old-timers as the Bobtail, was built in just 18 months at a cost of $62 million by a tough-as-nails former Fort Lauderdale mayor, Col. Thomas Manuel.
Hmmmm, 110 miles (4 lanes of highway) built in just 18 months?  The 6-mile, 2 lane stretch from Cudjoe to Ramrod Key has already taken 15 months, and may never be completed. Florida’s Tollway. Link
[Carbon-14 diamond battery] It’s here and it will run for 5,700 years. The battery leverages the decaying power of isotope carbon-14—the same isotope used in carbon dating. Link

There is a new annoyance from Microsoft that just popped up. The AI logo appears on every line I type in Office 365’s Word. There is no option to remove it. It constantly pops up. If they add something to software they should have a way to remove it.

Ear muscle we thought humans didn’t use — except for wiggling our ears — actually activates when people listen hard. To test whether humans still use auricular muscles — which once helped move our primate ancestors’ ears to funnel sound scientists attached electrodes to the sides of people’s heads, and asked them to listen closely to an audiobook. [Friday Joke] A woman has twins and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named Amal. The other goes to a family in Spain. They name him Juan. Years later, Juan sends a picture of himself to his birth mother. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wishes she also had a picture of Amal. He responds, “They’re twins! If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amal.”

[RCA and the Roaring Twenties] When you think about the Roaring Twenties and the bull market that surged until 1929, the one stock that comes first in everyone’s mind is Radio Corporation of America.  During the 1920s, RCA stock rose in price 200-fold, one of the largest increases in the history of the stock market. [Friday Joke] A ship wrecks onto a deserted island. Two guys and a girl survive. Since they don’t have anything to do all day besides eating and sleeping, they just have sex. Eventually the girl gets sick and dies. The two men don’t know what to do with themselves anymore, so they keep having sex. After a few days of sex, they feel guilty about what they’ve been doing…so they bury her.
The story of my home made pipe organ. It all began in the fall of 1992, in my final year of university. For lack of a better arts elective to take, I decided to take Music 111. I had absolutely no background in music at the time, and sometimes even had trouble telling whether two consecutive notes were ascending or descending. Nevertheless, I bravely decided to take the course. Link

[Cat Remembrance] It was the end of summer, 1977. At least I think it was late summer. I found a cat, a little ball of fluff. A teeny-tiny baby kitten. Her face was the size of a coin, and was split by her huge wide-open mouth as she hung suspended in the dark. She was stuck inside the fence of a junior high school on the banks of the Tamagawa River in the Y. neighborhood of Fuchū City in western Tokyo. Link
