[AI] Not only is AI going to stifle critical thought, but there’s an element of AI that few talk about and that is its ‘hallucinations’ where AI creates a ‘fact’ to complete its narrative. It can’t be trusted. Everything should be double-checked for factual errors, but that would defeat the time saved by using AI. Imagine giving AI control of weapons systems where the enemy is not the only threat. AI hallucinations are a bigger threat. Oh, oh!
Juneteenth is celebrated annually on June 19 to commemorate the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday’s name, first used in the 1890s, is a combination of the words June and nineteenth, referring to June 19, 1865, the day when Major General Gordon Granger ordered the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in Texas at the end of the American Civil War

[Octobass] Invented in 1850 by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume, the octobass was intended to bring an extremely deep rumble to the orchestra sound. The three-stringed instrument stands between 11 and 12 feet tall, about twice the height of a double bass. This giant bass produces sound so low, some of the notes fall outside the range of human hearing—these vibrations can only be felt. It’s so big the musician need to go up steps to play it.
[Ecosystem Dynamics] For decades, ecologists have puzzled over a mystery: Why do some natural habitats get overrun by invasive species while others seem to repel outside threats? In a classic 1958 book on the subject, the ecologist Charles Elton argued that an ecosystem with more species should be more resilient. In a diverse ecosystem, he wrote, so many species are already divvying up the available resources that little remains for a potential interloper looking to gain a foothold. Link
[Sunsonic 986-II] A Thai Famicom clone with keyboard and mini CRT built-in In China at least, these famicons where sold as ‘education’ computers. They came with language math carts etc. of course no one used it for that. Not sure the reason, but game consoles had been banned for ages there, maybe that was a way to circumvent the ban.

A Florida Keys deputy found himself behind bars Wednesday after authorities say he assaulted his girlfriend, hit a man and woman who tried to intervene then chased them down after claiming the couple stole his police badge. [Curved-Crease Sculpture] When folded along curved creases, paper shapes itself into a natural equilibrium form. These equilibria are poorly understood, especially for curved creases. We are exploring what shapes are possible in this genre of self-folding origami, with applications to deployable structures, manufacturing, and self-assembly. This transformation of flat paper into swirling surfaces creates sculpture that feels alive. Link
