The Citizen’s editor says that they endorsed Romney because orders came down from corporate headquarters. Whether you supported that candidate is not important , but what is really disgusting and typical is that the Keys worst newspaper followed orders from who-knows-where. Very sad as the old Citizen, almost, used to be a credible newspaper. Who else are they schilling for, the Navy? They certainly have not published any letters to the editor, or let Mark Howell do any investigative reporting on the Balfour Beatty deal. Pitiful paper — and fifty cents? Bah! |

[Hell or High Water] Monroe County is the first county in the state to address the effects of sea level change in its comprehensive land use plan. Three of Monroe’s four hospitals, 65 percent of its schools and 71 percent of its emergency shelters are on properties that — in some spots — would be below sea level given a rise of 1 foot. Scientific models are projecting 3 to 7 additional inches of sea level rise by 2030 in four Florida counties, and 9 to 24 inches by 2060. Without steps to protect buildings and land, a foot of sea level rise would cause an estimated $2 billion in property damage |

Who, but his wife and family, cares if Petraeus had an affair. So what. He’s still a capable general and head of the CIA. |
[Howard Livingston] This day has started out wonderfully here in paradise. My espresso is steaming hot and there is not a cloud in the sky. Cynderella is still sleeping but I have her special cup standing by at our coffee machine awaiting her rise. The dogs are with me curled at my feet. I don’t think there is a more calming effect in the world than that of your bare feet nestled around the soft fur of a dog. I don’t know how to describe it but it is wonderful. My Anderson and Gracie get it too because they could be anywhere but they are right here giving dad his feel good medicine for the day.

The owner of Murray Energy, the Ohio coal producer famous for making his workers attend the Romney rally has laid off 150 workers. He blamed it on Obama. What kind of world is this when a prominent republican donor is so pissed off about Obama’s reelection that he retaliates by firing employees? There is absolutely no economic reason that these workers should be fired today or the day before the election. Papa Johns owner said he is cutting hours and raising the cost of their product to offset the cost of the ACA. And did donate heavily to the Romney campaign. Other CEO’s are saying they are going to start laying off people starting with the ones he thinks voted for Obama. Get your pitchforks and torches ready. We having a good old fashioned witch hunt

Budgets do not come from the White House. They come from Congress and the party that controlled Congress since January 2007 is the Democrat Party. Furthermore, the Democrats controlled the budget process for 2008 & 2009 as well as 2010 & 2011. In that first year, they had to contend with George Bush, which caused them to compromise on spending, when Bush somewhat belatedly got tough on spending increases. For 2009 though, Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid bypassed George Bush entirely, passing continuing resolutions to keep government running until Barack Obama could take office. At that time, they passed a massive omnibus spending bill to complete the 2009 budgets. And where was Barack Obama during this time? He was a member of that very Congress that passed all of these massive spending bills, and he signed the omnibus bill as President to complete 2009 . If the Democrats inherited any deficit, it was the 2007 deficit, the last of the Republican budgets. That deficit was the lowest in five years, and the fourth straight decline in deficit spending. After that, Democrats in Congress took control of spending, and that includes Barack Obama, who voted for the budgets. If Obama inherited anything, he inherited it from himself. In a nutshell, what Obama is saying is “I inherited a deficit that I voted for and then I voted to expand that deficit four-fold since January 20th.”

[Captain Doom and Gloom] No matter which idiot won, as if winning an election mattered anyway, both were serious mental cases. Both are egomaniacs, religious bubblers, racist to the hilt, and as far from association of real humanity as you can get. You have to wonder which is worse, a racial anti-everything American or a religious nutcase who would ask a myth in the clouds how to deal with the Russians! Bar talk is, no sane man would want to be President and place himself in the cross hairs. It is a damn shame America is in this situation. It only took one-half of one generation to destroy our existence. What is next? Only your imagination and the twisted dreams of those in power will tell!
The United States of America passed away. I could not have said it better. America took a hit at the polls, those polls that were nothing but a rouge, a spin, a obnoxious delusion of freedom, and the end to our way of life. It is not Obama’s doing, but those old clans and bankers in old world Europe, who are rejoicing to our downfall. Within a few years any form of democracy and freedom as we knew will be replaced by a NWO of world totalitarianism and a MIC state. The Obama’s and Romney’s alike, will be a laughing stock of fodder as will most of us. Life on this rock is over except for the Czars and Kings as it was back then. Live with it or join them in uniform, there will be no other way.

1. I think FTR is having a Baghdad Bob moment. Remember when troops started to enter Iraq and Baghdad Bob was telling the world it wasn’t happening and that reality was Iraqi troops were beating back our forces? O.K. now read this excerpt from Fridays FTR diatribe and tell me if you see any difference at all. “The facts are that the Republican message is gaining strength locally and nationally”. The republican party had millions less in numbers voting Republican then they did 4 years ago and lost both the Electoral College and the popular vote. If thats gaining strength then I would hate to see a downturn. So in the FTR world millions of Republicans staying home and not voting Republican and losing the election — is gaining? 2. I like to test myself to see if I can guess the next bit of far right rhetoric. Todays guess is that somehow in todays postings there will be a Republican that will somehow by some strange logic tie the General Petraeus affair to our President.I could be wrong. 3. Its interesting to see posters blame our President for folks in the hurricane area not having power yet. Heres a newsflash. The power companies are NOT owned and run by the government. They are private companies. From what ive read 1 company is doing a great job with the damage and 1 company is doing terrible. Place the blame where it belongs. The private company that sucks. 4. Im glad to read that our President and John Boehner seem very serious about working out differences and I expect they will be able to get things done. Maybe Im just niave. I was also glad to read that Obama is considering asking Mitt Romney to bring his fiscal knowledge to the table and help us gain more financial momentum. Hopefully Romney will stay true to his word and help regain bipartisan support. 5. I have to confess. watching Karl Rove meltdown and watching “The Donald” making fools of themselves is entertaining in that the vast majority of Republicans living in the bubble world of FOX news really thought Romney was going to run away with this election. We remember the strutting and chest thumping we were reading on here daily about the upcoming demise of our President. Turns out the Presidents policies won out and the rhetoric from the right turned out to be nothing more then repeated bumper stickers. We should all Republicans and Democrats demand our government start working together. As a Democrat I would strongly support a plan where everyone of us rich. poor, black, white, catholic and Jewish all paid taxes. If a person is in a low paying job they should still pay something. Even a hundred dollars from them would help. Cut out the government paying for babysitting thats where families can help and cut back on religious deductions and I also think its time for churches to start paying their share of taxes. They use public roads and infrastructure. People paying their fair share isnt just a Republican belief that many try and pass if off as its an American belief. Thats my humble Democratic view.

I sure am glad we have Fox News and the Drudge Report to keep an eye on them Muslims for us. |
Don’t jump out of your pants, but what would be the problem if Obama was a Muslim?

The scandal that brought down CIA Director David Petraeus started with harassing emails sent by his biographer and paramour, Paula Broadwell, to another woman, and eventually led the FBI to discover the affair. Petraeus decided to quit, abruptly ending a high-profile career that might have culminated with a run for the presidency, a notion he was believed considering.
|
Fox News is happily going about it’s far Right Wing Kooks’ imposed mandate to link the Petraeus affair to President Obama in some way.

And Romney was a businessman? Interesting reading for FTR. Link |
The GOP has devolved from “The Party of Lincoln” into a catchall for racists, xenophobes, religious fanatics, sexists, un-reconstructed confederates and survivalists — all manipulated by international corporate interests.
Americans sent a loud and clear message to the Tea Party/Republicans and their focus on hatred, obstructionism, homophobia, divisiveness, lies, intimidation with fear, and narrow-minded theological mindset, “Not in America.”

[Separation of Church and State] The Freedom From Religion Foundation has sent a letter to President Obama asking him to reject the way this country politicizes religion. The Constitution, which prescribes out the oath in Art. 2, Sect. 1, does not contain the “so help me God” language or require use of a bible. As FFRF has always done before presidential inaugurations, we are asking President Obama to honor the Constitution on Jan. 21 by omitting that religious verbiage from the Oath of Office.

[The 47%] Cornel West on the 2012 election and the neglected issue of US poverty. Video |
Isn’t it amazing that the GOP and Fox News predicted that Romney would win by a landslide? Dick Morris said he would win by at least 10 percentage points. Karl Rove took $400 million dollars from donors to the campaign and assured them that Romney would win. Romney was supposed to have been shell shocked when he found out that he hadn’t won. Everyone on Fox News assured its viewers that Romney would win by a big margin. And all of this was after every poll predicted President Obama would win. Every poll!
People who watch Fox News 24 hours a day and go on only conservative web sites live in a bubble. They hear things repeated over and over and soon start to believe them. Yesterday FTR said that Obama won by a sliver. Did he miss something? Obama won more than 3 million popular votes and won electoral votes 332 to 206. A sliver?
Now the election is done. We all move on. Republicans will reevaluate their positions in a changing world. Republicans and Democrats will work together and we should all be doing the same. We need to stop the unpatriotic nasty stuff and support our President as he faces one of the most difficult times in our history. That’s the American way.

Republicans, whose big idea for economic growth is to cut taxes for the plantation owners, want to attract minorities. Good luck with that. |

Everyone knows Obamacare isn’t free, that is just more dissemination from the Left. They even think Obama was born in Africa because he’s Black. |
Florida congressman and tea party firebrand Allen West lost the election last week to an unknown political newcomer. But don’t tell Mr. west. The margin of victory is outside of the margin of error for a recount He tried to impound the actual votes and voting machines. This guy refuses to concede until all provisional and absentee ballots are counted. Meanwhile. The winner is moving on with his new career as a congressman. And Mr. West is one of only 2 black GOP members in the house.

[ “America Passed Away “] It’s the Republicans that by-passed American values. Democrats got it right.

Part 1) Many Democrats/Liberals are gleefully celebrating what they believe to be the demise of Conservatism as a power player. They couldn’t be more wrong. First, look at the stats. When all is said and done, Obama won by only about 2% of the popular vote. In the last 4 years his popularity has plummeted. In ’08 he garnered over 3 times as many votes as he did in ’12. While it’s true that fewer votes were cast in ’12. Even that is revealing. The Dem/Liberal/Obama brand is on the skids. Especially when you consider the fact that in the ’12 election, by 6 to 1, fewer folks voted Dem than voted Rep in ‘08. We can’t escape the fact that Obama, as the incumbent, should have won by a landslide. Obama is the darling of most of the media, he had the bully pulpit, and he flitted around our nation on the public dime in AF 1. He should have crushed Romney in the popular vote, but he didn’t. The Reps/Conservative candidate, Romney, lost for a number of reasons. First and foremost he was out campaigned. There’s no doubt about that. His campaign was righteous early on not go nuke with negative ads, but it cost him mightily. As a result Romney spent most of the rest of his campaign trying to change the optics that Obama had spread. There are reams of other reasons, not excuses, reasons for the loss. But the loss is behind us. Nonetheless we must realistically appraise and reevaluate. One of our biggest failures was to properly present the Rep/Con positions on issues that are of interest to voters of Latin heritage. Especially Americans of Cuban descent. Those folks by and large are both socially and fiscally conservative. Historically they have tended to support Republican candidates and principles of governance. Romney and by extension, the Republican party, failed that constituency by its stubborn refusal to bend on the issue of illegal immigration. The Rep/Con stand was and is one of “no amnesty”. Our mantra has been “get “em out and keep ‘em out.” That stand may have cost us the election. A humane and more logical position would be to strongly enforce our borders but to also provide a pathway to legalizing the status of long term illegals who are of long term residency in the US and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship. The children of that set of persons should also be included. Amnesty is a dirty word in many Rep/Con circles but if it were to be carefully crafted and strongly enforced it be good for America and it would be politic. We have to revisit our stand on issues most close to women. While married women preferred Romney to Obama we still must revisit reproductive issues. Most Rep/Cons are strongly of the belief that abortion is morally impermissible except in certain very limited circumstances. But most of us believe that the ultimate decision rests with the mother. Most of us believe that abortion for the convenience of the mother is the taking of a human life, but we regretfully acknowledge that that decision should not be regulated by law. On the other hand, nearly all of are firmly committed to the prohibition of paying for abortions with tax dollars, except in very limited circumstances. The Rep/Con’s Presidential rooky bench is loaded with talent. There are rapidly growing numbers of high profile Conservative young women and men of Hispanic ancestry, and of various other non-Anglo heritages who are now in high profile public service. Finally, in keeping with left field dicta and political strategy, they must demonize us. They cannon control themselves, they are hard wired to slash and burn. The current en-vogue liberal shibboleth is that the Rep/Con’s are mostly “angry old white men”. The stats prove otherwise, but it is the Rep/Con duty to the nation to convince all voters to the contrary.
Part 2) The fall out of the stunning resignation of General Petraeus is just beginning. It sure appears that the fall out will be radioactive to the Obama admin. Just yesterday we learned that Petraeus extra marital affair was pretty much an open secret. We learned that Team Obama is claiming that the FBI “stumbled” on the affair while monitoring Petraeus’s emails. Their party line is that the FBI was snooping because of “security concerns”. History is replete with “stumbles” by the FBI. But, in this instance the hoops that the FBI had to jump through to go after Petraeus’s were many and each was a fierce ring of fire. The FBI could not have gone after Piraeus’s e-mails unless they were specifically ordered to by Obama himself. We can take from that that the investigation had been long running. Now we have to ask how long and why did it get started. As of now there is no answer to that. The single biggest question is why did he resign suddenly only days before his scheduled Congressional testimony? There had to be some single near earth shattering event which pushed Petraeus. Certainly he is not afraid of the act of testifying, he’s skilled at it. Certainly he is a man used to physical danger and Machiavellian politics. Certainly he is well versed in the facts around the Bengasi fatal screw-up. We know that he specifically denied that it was the CIA that turned down Bengasi’s pleas for help. When he said “CIA” you can be certain that he meant General David Petraeus. Those words were a denial of personal responsibility and suggested that he had been stopped from acting to attempt rescue. You have to ask yourself who forbad the CIA from dispatching assets for a rescue. Who other than Obama himself has that power? As of now, that’s about as far as we can go. There is strong reason to believe that Obama was the moving force in his startling resignation, but as of now we can’t prove it, and as of now we can only speculate why he quit. None of the most obvious scenarios bode well for Obama. Both Freud and Bubba Clinton famously said: “sometimes a cigar is just a cigar”. While that’s true, this doesn’t even smell like a cigar.
Part 3) Saturday Night Live: Polling has revealed that Obama was elected largely because of support by college students and the unemployed. So Obama became President the same way that Budweiser became the king of beers.
