![]() We were seated on time and I asked the waitress if she could bring me a beer right away, she said “okay.” Time passed and no beer. Later another waitress came by and we all ordered drinks. I asked if I could get the beer right away. We all ordered dinners. The fish Diner 3 ordered said with “broccoli and roasted potatoes. And one side dish of your choice.” He asked what the choices were as they were not printed on the menu (odd). The waitress rattled off a whole list in her heavily accented English, so fast I only heard asparagus and some kind of risotto. Diner 2 asked her to please repeat the side dishes, but again I only could pick out some kind of risotto and asparagus. So I ordered the mystery risotto and asparagus. Diner 3’s fish was over cooked (and he doubted it was snapper) and smothered in way too much mango chutney completely obliterating any taste of the delicate fish. He suspected the smothered fish was to cover up the overcooked fish. There was no broccoli and roasted potatoes, nor was there any of the mystery risotto. There was only asparagus and it was delicious. There was also no apology for the missing side dishes. Diners 1 recommended the espresso ice cream and she and Diner 2 ordered espresso ice cream for dessert. What came was one espresso for Diner 2 and one vanilla ice cream for Diner 1 who bragged about the espresso ice cream they serve. No explanation why there were two different deserts when two espresso ice creams were ordered. Again, we looked for cameras. The bill had a charge for the risotto we didn’t receive. The waitress removed the extra charge. That was it, no apology. She never came back for the credit card and to give us a receipt. We waited and waited. The place was almost empty so Diner 2 got up and went looking for her so we could leave. He found her eating dinner. We got out of there. We asked Diner 2 if he left a tip. He said he left a smiley face with a sad mouth for a tip. |

[Big Pine Computer Club] We have learned that Skype is going out of business next month. It is being replaced by TEAMS. I downloaded Teams, but then hit a wall. So instead, at least for now, we will try to meet with Zoom. I have signed up as a Zoom leader. I have some experience since I led meetings during Covid. I should be okay if they haven’t changed the rules. Here’s what we do. You download Zoom & use your email as your ID. I send an invitation to your email & at the designated time we all sign in & meet. Our meeting is this Sat, so you have all week to get set up. We’ll work on glitches at the meeting. |

I sent a suggestion to the UN: Use a computer to figure out the most simple words for any known definition so all the world would use the same language. Of course, all the spoiled “children” want their own words used regardless of the complexity of the spellings. It is a shame that humanity is so void of intelligence. One world language could bring peace to this rock and avoid misunderstandings. |

[Not Enough Affordable Housing In The Middle Keys] I believe it’s essential for us to come together and explore potential solutions to this problem. Our Keys are a place of unity and support, and I’m confident that by pooling our collective wisdom, we can make a positive impact. Perhaps we can brainstorm innovative ideas, such as encouraging the development of affordable housing projects, collaborating with local organizations, or exploring government assistance programs that can facilitate the creation of more affordable housing options. If you have any suggestions, insights, or experiences that could shed light on this issue, I kindly invite you to share them here on the Coconut Telegraph. Let’s engage in a constructive and open dialogue, fostering an environment where everyone’s voice is heard. Together, we can explore avenues to ensure that our community remains inclusive, diverse, and accessible for all who wish to call the Keys their home. |
