Something really important to think about in your life – Not just this day but everyday. On this day, in 2001. 246 people went to sleep in preparation for their morning flights. 2606 people went to sleep in preparation for work in the morning. 343 firefighters went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift. 60 police officers went to sleep in preparation for their morning patrol. 8 paramedics went to sleep in preparation for their morning shift of saving lives. None of them saw past 10 a.m. September 11, 2001. None. Life is random – In one single moment, your life may never be the same. Tonight, as you go to sleep in preparation for your life tomorrow, kiss the ones you love, hug your spouse and snuggle a little tighter, and never take one second of your life for granted. Never |
[Housekeeper Greeting Cards] Hallmark needs a line of housekeepers’ cards to clients: “Hey old guy, stop powdering your balls on the toilet.” “Dear renters, take your sex toys with you.” “Old lady, put on an effing sweater and let me have some damn a/c, because it is not ‘only’ 89 degrees out there. “Dear adult children, don’t roll your eyes at me interrupting your nap while I clean for your parents.” “Dear young parents, I don’t wash baby bottles, I don’t fold onesies, and I do totally judge you for not emptying the diaper trash for the whole 2 weeks between my visits.” “Dear mom of kids finally moved out, it won’t be cheaper because your hubby is more underfoot than children.” (I am off this weekend and it’s a good damn thing for my attitude. Lol) |

[16th Century Mexico] The conquistadors passed an anxious night, listening to the noisy preparations of the Aztecs for battle, and in consulting vainly to discover some escape. At dawn, a hand-to-hand fight was fiercely waged, the Indians showing no fear of firearms, and driving the retreating Spaniards into the sea. Fifty Spaniards were killed, and one, Alonzo Bote, and a Portuguese, were captured alive. Conquistador Bernal Diaz says that every soldier but one had from one to four wounds, for which the only dressing was fat taken from the dead Indians; he himself had three wounds and Francisco Hernandez de Cordoba had twelve wounds. |

[New solar panels] These panels produce 20% more power than old ones. The panels, comprised of Oxford PV’s proprietary perovskite-on-silicon solar cells, can produce up to 20% more energy than a standard silicon panel. They will be used in a utility-scale installation, reducing the levelised cost of electricity (LCOE) and contributing to more efficient land use by generating more electricity from the same area. There is no mention in the Bill of Rights, in the entirety of the Constitution, of muskets, flints, or bullets, or any limitations of their possession. What is the motivation of this poster here, who willfully mis-characterizes the 2nd Amendment and the 4th Amendment protecting us from illegal search and seizure? |

[Remember] Two decades later, the enduring legacy of 9/11. Americans watched in horror as the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, left nearly 3,000 people dead in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania. Nearly 20 years later, they watched in sorrow as the nation’s military mission in Afghanistan – which began less than a month after 9/11 – came to a bloody and chaotic conclusion. Link |

[Earlobes] Why do we have earlobes? They make no evolutionary sense. Our ears are complex wonders. Our earlobes? They’re extra. Link |
[Solar Sails] NASA will unfurl an 860-square-foot solar sail from within a microwave-sized cube. The concepts behind solar sails have long been established—by using ultra-thin sheets of reflective material to capture the Sun’s ionic energy emissions, a solar sail can propel its cargo at incredibly high speeds without the need for additional fuel sources. In this case, the ACS3 prototype relies on a specially crafted set of collapsible booms made from flexible, carbon fiber-reinforced composite polymers. Once fully extended to 23-feet-long, the four booms will support an 860-square-foot sheet of microscopically thin plastic while also maintaining a tautness that would allow for solar energy collection.
