[Vote But Wear A Mask] Primary voting is set to begin throughout the Florida Keys. This time period includes two Saturdays and one Sunday. Early voting hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the three offices in Key West, Marathon, the Community Park in Big Pine and at the Islamorada Library. [Nazi Flamingos] When I started reading the comment about the people looking for flamingos on Middle Torch and finding a swastika painted in the road,  I was shocked. It was difficult to imagine that those beautiful birds could be Nazis.  I was glad as I read on to learn the roads were painted years ago and the birds were not responsible. Now if we can just keep the rednecks from shooting them.

[Vote For Dennis Ward] Deer Editor, Of course the Key Deer can’t vote. Our constitution does not provide for it, and besides, the deer can’t read who’s on the ballot. That responsibility falls upon us a humans. If the Key Deer could vote, I’d bet that they would vote for our incumbent State Attorney, Dennis Ward. Why you ask? Why would a Key Deer care? The answer is simple. Dennis Ward took the highly unusual step of filing state wildlife conservation charges against the thugs who brutally kidnapped 3 Key Deer, as part of some type of sick joke. These criminals had already faced prosecution in Federal Court, for violating U.S. statutes.

Mr. Ward’s conduct was legally unusual, because in most criminal cases where the Feds decide to prosecute a crime, the state prosecutors defer to the decision of the Feds and let them handle the prosecution. In the deer kidnapping case, the Federal prosecutors were successful in securing a conviction, and sending those offenders to jail.

The facts in this case revealed the cruel treatment of the 3 deer, which ultimately resulted in one deer having to be mercifully put to death. I applaud Mr. Wards decision to subject these thugs to a second prosecution, and send them to county jail, after being released by the Feds.

While the nation, and even Monroe County, is divided by politics, I think we can all agree on the need to protect our beloved Key Deer.  Whatever your political affiliation, please remember, Dennis Ward stood up for the deer when it counted, and now it’s time for us to stand up for him.  ~Mark F. [Media] I watch all the news and the only un-biased station is the BBC. Al Jazeera America was unbiased also, but they went broke. The major news channels are subtle in their bias, but still biased.

[Warning] Do not let them take the temperature on your forehead as you enter the supermarket, because it erases your memory. I went for macaroni and cheese and I ended up with two cases of beer.

[Science] Studies have failed to find proof that the drug hydroxychloroquine has any benefit in treating COVID-19, and the Food and Drug Administration in June revoked its emergency authorization to use it to treat the deadly virus, saying it hadn’t demonstrated any effect on patients’ mortality prospects.

[“Swastikas on Cudjoe Key”] I can see that the markers must have been solid black squares at  one time and the images seem to have been added by pouring some sort of solvent which dissolved or removed the paint.  What I don’t understand is why someone has not noticed these before and commented somewhere. How can people not notice a big swastika in the middle of the road?

[Friday Joke] It was raining hard and a big puddle had formed as usual in front of the Burgers in Paradise bar on Big Pine. An old local stood beside the puddle holding a stick with a string on the end and jiggled it up and down in the water. A curious vacationer asked what he was doing. “Fishing,” replied the old local.
“Poor old fool” thought the vacationer, so he invited the old local to have a drink at the bar. Feeling he should start some conversation while they were sipping their drink, the vacationer asked, “And how many have you caught?” The old local replied, “You’re the eighth.”
