My family and I just moved to Summerland Key last year and have been reading the Big Pine Key Coconut Telegraph. That is about to change. We cannot condole the radical leftist anti-American postings in the political section that are as close to communist propaganda as it gets. We now wonder about the mentality of the residents in the Keys! (Editor: If you could only see the ones I don’t publish it would make you sick. But that’s the Keys, where so many here are either Wanted or un-wanted. My Suggestion: Yankee go home. Paradise does not come easy.)
[Alexa For Old Folks] It’s about time. I’m ordering mine today. Link
[Friday Joke] A police officer called the station on his radio. “I have an interesting case here. An old lady shot her husband for stepping on the floor she just mopped.”
“Have you arrested the woman?”“Not yet. The floor’s still wet.”
Let There Be Peace on Earth” is a song written by Jill Jackson-Miller and Sy Miller in 1955. It was initially written for and sung by the International Children’s Choir.

[From The Right] On Tuesday a contributor complained about gun regulations in the USA.  The complaint claimed that “relaxation of reasonable gun ownership regulations has led to a rapid increase in senseless violence and death.”  I wonder how many people are even aware that every single gun purchase from a licensed gun dealer requires that the purchased pass a computerized background check; and that a part of that check requires that the purchaser swear that he/she/it is sane, does not use drugs, and has never been convicted of a crime?
There were 38,876,673 such background checks in 2021.  Believe it or not only about 1 percent of those were rejected for various reasons, including lying on the form.  Please remember that lying on this background check is a federal criminal offense.
Prosecutions for lying on the form are exceedingly rare — exceedingly rare.  Between 2008 and 2015, the FBI denied 556,496 gun purchases following background checks. During that time period, the report shows that only 254 false statements were even considered for prosecution, amounting to a 0.04 percent prosecution rate.
The woofing from the politicos that demands new, more stringent controls are unbelievably hypocritical.   They want new law but they refuse to enforce the existing law.
Top Gun 2022: Maverick. The most intense film training ever. You won’t believe the training each actor had to go through. Go behind the scenes now and see the action come to life. Video
Sometimes I drink water just to surprise my liver.

The morning after the puppy frat party.

[Friday Joke] My Mom finally got the courage to bring my Dad’s urn into the living room and place it on the mantle. It was bittersweet and caught everyone a little off guard, including my Dad who was just sitting there watching Storage Wars.
[Opinions For Sale] Boy oh boy. Watch the various news channels for a few minutes and see which newscaster switched sides for a bigger paycheck. Zero morals.

The first bottles of CocaCola contained 3.5 grams of cocaine. That explains how your grandparents were able to “… walk to school uphill both ways in the snow.”

[New Movie: Assholes On A Plane] I agree that unruly passengers should be kept under control, but who is to judge if a person is unruly or just having fun, getting sick, scared or for some other reason? A steward cannot be a judge and jury just because someone laughs too loud or is quite tipsy from libating. Even the flight crew cannot judge the situation from a description from a steward.
The addition of more flight marshals will help, but the mentality of a badge is always in question.  Also how should sex, race, age and religion be addressed in such judgements? I see a lot of legal problems coming from this attempt to control people. Big Brother is a stewardess.

[The Wall] Several Americans have been seen sneaking into Canada. Canada’s Prime Minister has made the decision to build a wall.

[“Gun ownership”] In the great State of Florida all the concerns that the author expresses as reasonable gun laws is so far out in left field that it is beyond comprehension.
First. Florida has a three-day waiting period unless you have passed a background check and possess a Conceal Weapon and Firearms License.
Second. If one purchases a firearm you have to fill out an ATF form and pay for your background check.
Third. If you use a firearm in a criminal act you can expect to spend a significant amount of time in the Gray Bar Bed & Breakfast.
Fourth. Florida has good firearms laws to protect citizens from being victims of violent crimes if they elect to use deadly force to protect themselves, their family, or a third party that is in imminent danger of great bodily harm or death.
Fifth. If you think Florida needs Chicago, LA, or New York types of draconian laws, feel free to move to one of those locations and complain about the crime and lack of police response, but if you remain in Florida, enjoy the freedoms that our military has fought and died for every American to exercise all of our freedoms. Especially the first and second amendment.
[Friday Joke] During a recent password audit, it was found that a blonde was using the following password: “MickeyMinniePlutoHueyLouieDeweyDonaldGoofyTallahassee”
When asked why such a long password, she said she was told that it had to be at least 8 characters long and include at least one capital.
Morals and truth have gone from our national thinking as something important. No one cares for truth any longer – only that what is said agrees with their hate and prejudice.
[May Book Club] Our next meeting is May 21st and the book is Killing Mister Watson by Peter Mattheissen. With the new Book in a Bag program, I checked out all of the books. Call or email me if you would like a copy and we can arrange to meet. 305-731-6400.
For anyone who likes to read ahead, we selected The Widow Clicquot: The Story of a Champagne Empire and the Woman or Ruled It by Tilar J Mazzeo for June.  Long title, but the book is less than 300 pages.
Be sure to mark your calendar for the third Saturday of each month at 10:00 am for book club. Full Menu > Book Club
[“Gun ownership”] If you don’t want to have a background check go to a gun show, pay with cash, and take home a used assault weapon. It’s so easy to get around gun laws. It must be corrected or should we just accept a mass shooting every week?

[Welfare and Work] Cato study distorts the truth on welfare and work. Link

[Low Blow] Making mention of a political leader’s daughter’s recent arrest is not proper. If you think you are better you would have been nailed to a cross.
[Free Trees] The Shade Tree Giveaway is this Saturday 4/23 at 8:30AM on Blimp Rd. There will be a crowd. There are some really nice trees on the list, including one of my favorites: Fiddlewood,. It’s fast growing with very fragrant flowers. I have several of the trees on the list, and I don’t need any more.
[Friday Joke] I’m in the automotive section and I ask the female clerk, “Where can I find penetrating oil?” She gets a funny look on her face like I’m an idiot, then tells me to go look in Health & Beauty, next to the condoms, in aisle three.
