[“Slow pokes”] Oh, my God, it’s you! I’ve seen you when I finally get to pass you on Rockland Key. You appear oblivious to the frustration and danger you create. Driving 45mph in a 55 zone in normal conditions is not only incredibly rude to other motorists, it can be illegal and it is dangerous. The truth is the exact opposite of what you seem to think:
Driving slower than the posted speed is more likely to cause an accident than speeding, according to research. Driving too slowly can make other drivers around you constantly brake and speed up. It can be frustrating for other drivers, cause confusion and could lead to an accident.
Highways are designed with traffic flow in mind. The term speed “limit “ is a misnomer. Highways are designed so that a 45mph zone will be driven at approximately 50mph and 55mph at approximately 60mph (human nature). The police will not ticket you at these speeds because, unlike you, they know this- and the margin of error in their radar doesn’t allow for it to stick in court. Do you really believe that driving essentially 15 mph below the posted speed is reasonable? Have you ever looked in your rearview mirror? There will be a miles long train of very frustrated, normal, drivers there wondering just what the hell you are thinking (and now we know). And just as many trying to take a left turn onto the highway-or even a right turn in the middle of your train. And why? Why do this for God’s sake? Other than driving slow in the passing lane, this is my, and I’m sure many, many other peoples’ biggest frustration driving US 1 (let me know if you think Miss Slowpoke here is a good driver). Speed up or stay off the road.  You are going to cause an accident if you haven’t already.

See, you ignored those offers to buy an extended car warranty and now your car has Monkeypox.

If Brittney Griner, who was caught bringing small quantities of illegal drugs into Russia, and is freed, even though she broke Russian law, every person in American jails for small quantities of pot should also be freed. You can’t have it both ways.
[“Benedict Arnold”] A few points about the interesting post about Benedict Arnold. He was decidedly not the first American General to defeat the British navy. His fleet on Lake Champlain was wiped out by the British and he retreated to the south. He lost, but his actions allowed for time to fortify Fort Ticonderoga, and this would eventually lead to an American victory.

(And because I am pedantic: The Who. Not Pink Floyd said, “Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”)

[Permanent Record] Every time you talk to your wife, you should always remind yourself that:  “This conversation will be recorded for training and quality purposes.”

[Night Lights] Be kind. Don’t be afraid. Don’t be paranoid. Turn your outside lights off at night or please use these light bulbs. Dark skies provide peace. Look up, enjoy the stars, moon, and planets.

[Cuban Rafters] The U.S. Coast Guard said the bodies of two people who were attempting to migrate to South Florida have been recovered from the ocean water off the Florida Keys after a vessel capsized Friday morning. The agency said that eight people have been rescued, and the search continues for five more people. Six of the survivors required medical attention, according to the Coast Guard. In total, 15 people were on board the migrant boat that capsized 14 miles south of Sugarloaf Key in the Lower Keys. Link
[“Destroying nature”] I too saw the forestry mulchers last week on the east side of Key Deer Blvd between Big Pine St. and Mahogany Ln. I stopped by the Refuge Visitors’ Center Friday and asked the refuge head David Dean about the machines in the pine rocklands, who made the decisions, is it the butterfly restoration project, etc. To my surprise he knew nothing about what was going on east of Key Deer Blvd and little about the work on the west side of the Blvd. He thought simply that the existing fire roads were being maintained by prescribed burn workers.
[?] Really enjoyed this post. Really thank you! Keep writing.

[Transparent Aluminum] And 5 more remarkable metals These are some of the most notable substances on the periodic table. Link

[The Movies] Did you ever notice in western movie gun fights; you never see the exit wounds. I mean like when Randolph Scott has drawn down on Lee Marvin and hits Lee in the gut with a .45 Long Colt or perhaps a .44-40 Winchester, from 4 yards, Marvin falls down face first, and there’s no exit wound. Did you ever notice?
[“Destroying Nature”] Plowing new roads in the refuge. I think the decisions are made up north by a group of people justifying their jobs. It’s frustrating and a shame to see the refuge change unnecessarily. What motivates them? What is their final plan? No one will say. Ask the Refuge personal and they know nothing.
[Don’t Legalize It] We live in the keys, but both retired from NYS. Don’t think legalizing marijuana in Florida for recreational use is a good idea.
We came back to Niagara Falls NY months ago and found out the laws are “3 ounces of pot per person” is allowed. Numerous times watching people driving while high, as well as walking around with a lit joint.
Medical ok, not otherwise.
Donald Trump says Mar-a-Lago home ‘raided’ as FBI executes search warrant – as it happened. Former US president described the incident at his resort in Palm Beach, Florida as ‘an unannounced raid’ but did not specify what was taken. Link
[Medicare Part G] Say you are an older senior citizen and can no longer take care of yourself and need long-term care, but the government says there is no nursing home care available for you. So, what do you do? You opt for Medicare Part G.  The plan gives anyone 75 or older a gun (Part G) and one bullet. You are allowed to shoot one worthless politician. This means you will be sent to prison for the rest of your life where you will receive three meals a day, a roof over your head, central heating and air conditioning, cable TV, a library, and all the health care you need.  Need new teeth? No problem. Need glasses? That’s great. Need a hearing aid, new hip, knees, kidney, lungs, sex change, or heart? They are all covered. As an added bonus, your kids can come and visit you at least as often as they do now

[Missing Toilet Paper] Trump flushed papers down the toilet. Isn’t that “toilet paper”?

[Site Sucks] Of the 30-some posts on here Friday, only 4 pertained to local Keys news and information The rest was just filler junk.

[“Benedict Arnold”]  Sorry, but the words “Here’s to the new boss – Same as the old boss” is from the song “Won’t Get Fooled Again” by The Who’s from the “Who’s Next” album (not from Pink Floyd).

[Code?] help your neighbor get fined 500$ thank you moron county yep that’s right folks , even if it is free or even if it family they will nail u friend just got hid 500 fu

[Magic Mushrooms] I can’t stop thinking about people who first ate mushrooms through trial and error. You know like: This one tastes like beef, this one killed Kevin instantly and this one made me see God for 3 weeks.

[Keeping Track] Sloppy reporting!  Between 100 and 200? So many Cubans and Haitians that our Coast Guard can’t count. We’re expected to believe this, when the government has satellites watching every move, everywhere? In Key West we have JIATF claiming to keep us secure with their monitoring. It seems they monitor everything except Cuban migrants. Link

[Paddling] Things you need to know before your first paddling adventure. The essentials before kayaking or canoeing your way through nature. Link

[“Slow pokes”] Tell me you’re old and senile without telling me you’re old and senile. Well, the speed limit may be 55, but I drive 45, cause I’m old and have nothing to do but mess with people that have a real life.
[Marathon Couple Beats Snorkeler] Deputies reported finding a 36-year-old man from St. Petersburg bleeding profusely from the head. He said the couple argued with him about his right to snorkel near their dock. I guess if they own a waterfront home they “own?” the Gulf of Mexico too?
