[“People can chose a path to follow”] There are always choices. It’s called self-control. Whether you choose to use it is another one of those choices. |
[Classic Car Wanted] Classic or vintage running car to rent for a wedding on June 28th. Car would be in Key Colony Beach. I am a prior local that was raised in BPK then moved off the rock and I am coming home to get married. I’ll pay cash and a deposit isn’t a problem. I’m not going to beat on your car, I just want something that will be remembered and look great in photos that my new wife and two adorable little girls will really enjoy driving to the wedding and to the reception. All classics considered, but I would prefer a large Cadillac, Chevy, 1950-60s Fords and or Lincolns. Germans may apply as well. Early 70’s as well. No 80’s. The car does not need to be a show winner. Our wedding theme is rustic and its a laid back beach wedding. I can be reached at 314-637-0259 any time day or night. Classified Ads > Wanted |
[Joke Friday] My friend and I stopped in at Hooters for some hot wings. After being there for a while the friend asked me which waitress I would like to be stuck in an elevator with. I told him, “The one who knows how to fix elevators.” (I’m old, tired, and pee a lot). |
[Joke Friday] At breakfast, the husband says to his wife “What would you do if I won the Lotto?” “ I’d take my half and leave you.”, she says, matter-of-factly. “Great!”, he says. “Here’s $6. I won $12 yesterday! Stay in touch.” |

When you’re wounded and left on Afghanistan‘s plains, And the women come out to cut up what remains, Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains An’ go to your Gawd like a soldier. Go, go, go like a soldier, Go, go, go like a soldier, Go, go, go like a soldier, So-oldier-of-the Queen!Last stanza of “The Young British Soldier” by Kipling. Afghanistan became know as The Graveyard Of Empires. |
[Business Practices] While I agree that Daddy Bones most likely went out of business due to the North Roosevelt debacle and their poor location, a key rule to operating a successful business is to remain neutral on certain issues. Customers often choose not to go to a restaurant that disagree with a viewpoint. Encouraging the public to bring guns into their restaurant does not make good business sense. |
The Monroe County license plate is being discontinued. Remember when you could tell tourist from locals by the 38 on all local license plates? |
[Joke Friday] I feel sorry for people who don’t drink. When they wake up in the morning, that’s as good as they’re going to feel all day. When I read about the evils of drinking, I gave up reading. 24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not. When we drink, we get drunk. When we get drunk, we fall asleep. When we fall asleep, we commit no sin. When we commit no sin, we go to heaven. So, let’s all get drunk and go to heaven! Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy. Without question, the greatest invention in the history of mankind is beer. Oh, I grant you that the wheel was also a fine invention, but the wheel does not go nearly as well with pizza. Beer: helping ugly people have sex since 3000 b.c. Remember I before E, except in Budweiser. To some it’s a six-pack, to me it’s a Support Group. Beer: Salvation in a can! |
The snook fishery is closed in federal waters. Snook is just about the only fish I’ve never eaten. I hear it’s very good. Is the meat similar to cod or grouper? |

[Sewers] At any other time, it would probably have slipped quietly past us all. But timing and circumstances were such that members and sympathizers of the grassroots organization DumpThePumps, Inc were on high alert, watching for still more sneaky and generally dishonorable Florida Department of Environmental Regulation and Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority (FKAA) activity. For years, FKAA had residents of the Cudjoe Regional Wastewater System region believing the agency’s project to connect their homes to a centralized sewage treatment plant would consist primarily of a gravity fed system with only a minor amount of outliers, out of necessity and due to their remote location, slated to be connected via less reliable low-pressure grinder pump systems. |
[“Greedy Landlords”] Why does that guy who’s only success is he quit drinking, assume all landlords rent out slums and are greedy. What does he base his assumptions on? Did he rent from notorious slum lord Paly Artman thirty years ago? |
Former President George H. W. Bush marks 90th birthday with parachute jump. (doesn’t he look dead in the photo?) Video |
[Coupon Bight] The Blue Paper (Key West the Newspaper) has just published an article about the DEP issuing a permit for the conversion of a potable water pipe to become a sewer pipe pumping raw sewage across the Coupon Bight Aquatic Preserve! It’s another good expose of government corruption by the only Keys newspaper to unabashedly report the issues. Check it out. Link |
Whenever I read anything from the Marine Sanctuary it’s always about them trying to take away something from us. When will they be happy? What’s up with that? |

When Hugh Hefner dies no one will say, “He’s in a better place now.” |
[Iraq] If we had left Saddam alone and went after al Qaeda instead, like we should have, we would be a rich nation and hundreds of thousands of people would still be alive. Attacking Iraq will go down as the biggest mistake of modern America and the blame should be placed squarely on George W Bush’s shoulders. |

[Joke Friday] A woman has twins, and gives them up for adoption. One of them goes to a family in Egypt and is named ‘Amal.’ The other goes to a family in Spain, they name him Juan’. Years later; Juan sends a picture of himself to his mum. Upon receiving the picture, she tells her husband that she wished she also had a picture of Amal. Her husband responds, ”But they are twins. If you’ve seen Juan, you’ve seen Amal.” |
[Orchid Society Meeting] The 3rd Sunday in June, the 15th, is upon us in just a few days so bring Dad to the meeting, it’s his day after all, and celebrate by eating pizza. If you can’t make it Dad, have a happy Fathers’ Day!Your June newsletter is attached. Full Menu > Ongoing Events |
[Business Shake Up] It seems that the main owner of the Looe Key Tiki Bar made the decision of letting go his former partner, Dale, who was making all the changes that chased away the locals. “The Looe Key Tiki Bar has always been a locals watering hole, and that’s the way we want to keep it.” said the main owner. |
[“Greedy Landlords”] Landlords are not the problem–tenants are. Today’s Citizen reports a tenant selling the apartment’s A/C units. Would that be considered a ‘greedy’ tenant? There are two sides to every coin. |

[Iraq] What a shame so many lives were lost unnecessarily and so much money wasted only to have that hotbed of hate revert to a worse condition than when under Saddam Hussein. Tribes usually need a dictator to control their inbred hate. |

[Joke Friday] Why did the cowboy adopt a Dachsund? To get a long little doggie. |
Ladies & gentlemen, boys & girls, children of all ages, It looks like Wetstock 10 (yes #10) will be on Sunday of the Labor Day weekend again this year. I am working on a new line up of bands and we will keep you posted. |
[Gas Prices] I just heard an interesting statistic today. The average gasoline price in the U.S. today is exactly twice what it was when President Obama took office — $3.66 a gallon today vs. $1.83 a gallon then. |
[“Greedy landlord wants to know loser’s financial situation and what successes he’s had”] Not drinking, that’s all you got? Thank you for your reply, but never drinking booze is not the kind of success that pays the mortgage or buys a loaf of Cuban bread. I’ve met other a**holes who don’t drink. (Note to reformed alcoholics: I congratulate you on your decision, so don’t get upset and write about the demon alcohol. We know about it. This post is about bitter losers not alcohol). |
[Gun] How’s this for a conspiracy theory?: The Big Pine outdoor gun shooting guy is really a liberal left wing nut mole deliberately planted there and publicized to make normal gun owners look bad in the liberal media. What do you think about that one? |

[Gun] All you gun guys should pack up all your heat and ammo and get yourselves over to Iraq. Looks like you can shoot all the people you want in that place right now. Admit it, that’s what you’re really itching to do, isn’t it? |
[Gun] “Cell phones as murder weapons” I realize that yesterday’s post was sarcasm, but it shows the simplicity of the writer’s mind to even be able to write such a thing. He has no grasp of murder. That post was almost as dumb as the ‘ban the forks’ post I read here months ago. Probably the same gun nut wrote both posts. It’s hard to imagine two simpletons reading the CT. Than again, it is the CT! |
[Gun] CNN just slashed its school shooting stat by 80% That brings the number to closer to 15 incidents of witch only a few were active shooter events. Figures don’t lie, however liars figure. |
[Gun] Guns and Cocaine comparison post. I thought it was a thought provoking post, of course subject to a myriad of different spins. We can say, one, for all practical purposes, is legal while one is illegal. Many in this country wish to make it so they both are illegal. I believe the original poster was attempting to make the analogy of the success of the drug war which will largely mirror the success of the attempt to prohibit firearms. In other words — a total failure, at least in areas where the real harm is happening with firearms. The difference in opinions on Amendments to our Constitution has been going on for years and can also be spun a zillion different ways so be careful when reading one person’s spin until you have thought about the subject for awhile. Some folks (cozy word) call our constitution the greatest document yet devised by humans while others merely call it a “damn thing”. Spin, spin, spin. |
[Gun] Having worked in law enforcement over thirty-five years in Washington, DC I quickly learned that banning the sale of weapons is the worst kind of gun control. As a federal officer, I was allowed to chase criminals anywhere in the country. Sometimes we’d chase them to a point where, if they turned left they would enter Maryland, go right they would run into Virginia. At the time, Virginia had an open carry law. In Maryland, there was a ban on the sales of assault weapons and handguns. Guess which way they turned! |
When I get to the end of this blog each day and come to the latest FTR Guy essay I always wonder what’s in it. Unfortunately I can never get past the civil insults (how’s that for an oxymoron) that he always begins with. He seems to only be interested in his core base of believers, not finding new ones. |
When Obama drones those 5 Gitmo guys, I hope we get to see the video. |
The county commission gave Singh another gift[?] When do the taxpayers get ours after they were caught with their hands in the cookie jar about the iPhone deal and through a worker under the bus to save there own butts. What next? |

[“Rick Perry compares gayism with alcoholism”] What is it about Republicans denial of science? Governor Perry is a smart man, but every once in a while he talks so stupid only Texans could like him, and that’s not saying much. These are the types of screwballs Republicans want as President. God help us. (sarcasm). |
Anti government religious forces have retaken 3 major cities in Iraq and are heading to Baghdad. This is all because of Bush’s Texas bravado and no understanding of the Mideast. The Right’s answer: send in more young men to get killed (McCain the dinosaur) and further hurt our economy. |
[“Obama admin, the US is awash in right wing whackadoes running around with guns shooting everything and everybody that moves”] Another lie from the right to further their misguided beliefs and hate of our government. |
A POSTER WROTE: “From a Conservative point of view, mine, Liberals aren’t tolerant as they claim. We’ve seen it over and over again. A Liberal says something we disagree with, we just let them spout off and then disagree. But a Conservative says something Liberals disagree with, the Conservative must be silenced. And they don’t care how the Conservative is silenced. It can be boycotting advertisers, or personal attacks of his character. The goal is always to discredit and silence the Conservative, not actually defend against the idea itself.”TR’S RESPONSE: None needed, the poster said it all and said it very well. Thanks.============================
Part 1) Perhaps you haven’t heard of ISIL, aka ISIS. It is an extraordinarily powerful Islamic fundamentalist jihadist group that is well on its way to driving democracy out of Iraq. It is a part of the AQI circle. The same AQI that Mr. Obama and Secy Clinton bragged that they had defeated. Now the terrorist organization has already seized much of Iraq. Make no mistake about it, it is a near certainty that all Iraq will fall to the jihadists. When it does, Sharia law will rule as surely as a trail of slime follows a snail. Make no mistake about it, now that ISIL/ISIS has looted hundreds of millions of dollars from Iraq banks, they will soon also take Syria. In only 5 years the AQI and its offshoots have proliferated and grown in power like a huge infestation of rats. These rats are absolutely dead set on establishing a world wide caliphate. It is nearly certain that they will soon seize control of much of North Africa, and it is very likely that Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Qatar, Kuwait, and Egypt will also fall to the jihadists. The entire Mideast is in grave danger. The Obama foreign policy is a catastrophe of biblical proportions. The world will suffer for decades because of Obama and Clinton. Mr. Obama’s go to response to threat situations is to dither. Then, to give a speech. Please remember that had Obama/Clinton simply negotiated a Status of Forces agreement with Iraq at the end of the war, we would still have forces in Iraq to drive the jihadists out. Don’t kid yourself, the growth of fundamentalist Islam is a real, and a present danger to our nation. They are sworn to annihilate us. There are more 9/11’s in our future thanks to the current administration. ============================= IT’S INCREDIBLE, BUT A POSTER ACTUALLY WROTE: “Does cocaine deliberately murder? Guns murder about 11,000 people a year and too many of them are innocent. Cocaine deaths are, if anything, accidental deaths. Gun murder is intentional. The innocent are shot every day. Murder means intentional killing. Cocaine deaths are accidental.” FTR’S RESPONSE: It’s difficult to deal with such incredibly naif logic, but here goes: A gun has never murdered anyone, not a single soul. Every single requires a person to take the life of another person. No inanimate object can commit a murder. A gun is nothing more than a tool to take the life of another. Other tools used to commit murder are bottles, knives, cars, knitting needles, razors, electricity, poison, ropes, bats, dogs, rocks, pool sticks, swimming pools, the list is limited only by the imagination of the murderer. Guns, used as tools, are the reason that you have the right to post such foolishness, the gun tool won us our freedom. The gun tool protects us from tyranny. The gun tool used by American heroes are responsible for the fact that much of the world is free today. The cocaine trade is fully and totally responsible for thousands of deaths here in the US and abroad. Often, the cocaine cowboys use the gun tool in their predations. But, any sentient person who knowingly ingests cocaine knowingly accepts the risk that the drug is poison and there is a strong possibility that it will kill you. Ingesting cocaine is never, never an accident. Ingesting cocaine is the functional equivalent of playing Russian roulette. ———————————- A POSTER WROTE: “[Gun] 53% increase in gun deaths this year over last year. The business of shooting each other is booming” FTR’S RESPONSE: Pure utter nonsense. Take the time to check the link, it’s a page from the FBI’s Uniform Crime Report that is published every year. Murder by gun has been declining, that decline began at about the same time that the restrictions on guns was eased. Last year (2012) the most recent year available) murder by gun declined from 12,795 in 2011 to 12,765 in 2012. Link |
