[“Redskins”] I really enjoyed reading the post on Tues regarding the reply to Mr. Page columnist for the Chicago Trib. on the subject of the name of the Washington football team being the  “Redskins” I personally found it very amusing and a splendid example of how absolutely ridiculous the politically correct bunch have became, about the only way to confront these individuals is with the same kind of gravitas as they display , you know fight fire with fire.
I haven’t picked on the Key West establishment for a while now.  After reading The Blue Paper, The Citizen, The Coconut Telegraph and Good Morning Key West, I feel like it’s time to piss off the ‘elite’ of Key West

It’s a real shame that the city commissioners ran Daddy Bones out of business (and others) just to keep noise down.  I have lived in many places in this country and have never heard of such a lame excuse for delaying a road project.  How many houses are there along that stretch of road?  Zero on the ocean side and businesses on the other?  There are hotels along the road but they’re overpriced anyway.  I doubt anyone cares if they lose a little business.  They wouldn’t have lost money, just not made as much.  Kudos to Daddy Bones for feeding the homeless.  Shame on the commission for not attending (except Teri Johnson) and meeting the working people they are trying to drive out of Key West.  They were probably afraid of being confronted by a “dirty, smelly, drunken, addicted, vagrant”   Are you happy Mayron Cates?

Craig Cates – As long as I was on the subject, let’s talk about Mayron Cates’s Facebook page.  His banner proclaims. “100% scandal free administration – no special interest.”  Hmm, how about $500,000 to your friend Swift?  How about the North Roosevelt construction and businesses closing?  How about your flip flop on the homeless?
-New City Hall at Glynn Archer-fully funded.  Maybe it will be fully funded (by tax payers) If so it will be a feather in his cap.  But when has any public works endeavor come in on budget?  There will be cost over-runs as we all know.
-Successfully lobbied FDOT for 2-way traffic during boulevard construction.  Big deal, FDOT would have probably done it anyway.
-Respect of all citizens.  What a joke.  He should say respect only for residents who can afford to live in Key West.  If he respected all citizens, Charles Eimers would still be with us.
-Key West’s full time Mayor. Of course you’re full time, you are retired and have nothing else to do but screw up the city.
Margaret Romero. All you do is criticize.  I have heard you speak at many commission meetings.  I have never heard you offer a solution.  One who criticizes without offering an alternative can’t be take seriously.
Tony “Fat” Yaniz. I’m always hearing and reading about your stance on the homeless.  Yet what have you done?   I’m always hearing and reading about your stance on affordable housing.  Yet what have you done?  I’m always hearing or reading about your stance on elderly housing.  Yet what have you done?  The only property left in Key West with enough room for these important projects is where the commission wants to build a park.  Do something “Fat” unless it’s all political rhetoric.
Teri Johnson. You are the only commissioner who deserves my respect.  Keep up doing what you do, but get stronger against the Key West elite  You know others live here besides them.
Mark Rossi. You only vote for what’s best for your entertainment complex and your other investments.  You don’t care about anyone else.
Clayton Lopez. Fight harder to protect your district from the other commissioners.
Jimmie Weekly. At least your businesses helps all residents of Key West.
Billy Wardlow. You rarely speak, but seem to vote with the majority.  Take a stance of your own. ~kccwoodworks@msn.com

] Exactly. If I was a band I’d listen to my repertoire on earphones on the way to the show so the essence of the music would remain in my soul.
My concern with the Citizen Review Board (CRB) going after the prone restraint procedure, which was used in the Eimer’s case, is that there is far more to his death than prone restraint. He apparently was brutalized while he lay face down on the sand, squirming and kicking and trying to breath. He was brutalized for trying to breathe. He was brutalized because he was suspected of being homeless. KWPD officers did not tell arriving paramedics what really had happened. KWPD officers told all the civilian witnesses to be quiet about what they had seen, instead of interviewing and taking their statements, as was suppose to happen. It went downhill from there, with officers filing incident reports, which the bystander’s video then blew to smithereens (the officers didn’t yet know of the video, which the bystander smuggled to the blue paper, which then broke the story). KWPD waited several days to notify Eimers’ family that his body was on life support in the local hospital, and it appears KWPD only notified the family because Florida law required the family’s approval to take Eimers’ body off of life support. KWPD then took Eimers’ body from the hospital to a mortuary, for the body to be cremated. The body was supposed to be taken to the Monroe County Medical Examiner. Tissue samples taken by the hospital from Eimers’ body were lost, instead of delivered to the Medical Examiner. Recently, the Medical Examiner announced his resignation and move to the mainland. The CRB needs to look at the entire case; otherwise, the CRB will end up ruling the police officers were not properly trained in prone restraint, and they were not responsible for their poor training, and henceforth the KWPD needs to properly train its officers in prone restraint and when to use it and when not to use it. I can hear that train a coming, coming down the tracks, I can hear its whistle blowing loud and clear.

The situation in Iraq reminds me of Vietnam. The huge US trained and well equipped South Vietnamese army folded in a few days after we pulled out, with the troops throwing away their uniforms and weapons.  Afghanistan, another impossible situation, will be next.  Saddam was a bad, bad man, but he kept the Iraqi tribes in line and wasn’t about to share power with al Qaeda or anyone else.

[Computer] Many years ago–many, I was at a computer trade show in Philly and they had a rather large (4’x4’x6’h) box sitting along side a display of new laptops (new in 1985). It was a Cray Supercomputer that was decommissioned. I kiddingly asked the sales guy how much for it? He said, make and offer. I said $100. He said, sold, if you can carry it out, else it goes into the dumpster after the show. I was amazed, but the Crag was a door stop, useless for anything beside advanced Cobol or Fortran operating systems. It would have made a great conversation piece next to my rec room bar though!

Cities around the world are installing homeless spikes. What a brilliant idea they are. If only we could construct them in the mangroves the quality of life in the Keys would be raised significantly. These are awesome!
[“Five terrorists only dangerous to Afghanistan”] There were no Americans in Afghanistan on September 11, 2001 when the twin towers in NYC were attacked by Islamic Terrorists. Osama bin Laden did not pull the trigger, he planned it. These five Taliban terrorists are planners and killers – two of them are wanted by the UN for war crimes in Afghanistan. This is a horrible deal.

[“Do we have a Tea Party in Monroe County”] The beauty of the T.E.A. Party is that it isn’t they, it’s us.  It isn’t an entity you can sic on an issue, it’s you climbing out of your rut and initiating action yourself.  Did you see all the gloating over the ‘death of the tea party’ because there weren’t crowds gathering for an ‘American Spring’ demonstration?  This isn’t a bunch of jerk-the-strings puppets who appear on demand.  It’s those who truly care showing up for the need, as Mr. Cantor found out, much to his dismay.

[“Greedy landlord wants to know loser’s financial situation and what successes he’s had”] Hell, getting up everyday not ever being a drunk or social drinker living in Paradise ones entire life damn near and being able to still be happy without looking down on the elitist got-miners who have slowly infested the Keys and S Florida makes one pretty damn successful, really. The good thing about Darwin and the upcoming Crash The Whiny, got-miners will not be able to make it. those dirtbags you see every day and look down on, they are much better prepared for a life of hardship than the ivory tower crowd. You know what they, say practice makes perfect. I am glad I ruffled one slum lord’s feathers enough to cause them to take 5 minutes out of there life to respond. This will light the fuse for the planned crash by the World Banks and the World Corporate Controllers. [Bible Quoting] “Earth created in 7 days”  Just ask them if they can explain where Neanderthal Man came from and that will throw a monkey wrench in their works. What many people don’t understand is that everybody who preaches or quotes anything from the bible is giving you their interpretation. Their interpretation my sound convincing, but that’s all it is. It doesn’t make it a fact. I can guarantee all of you that you, your children, your grandchildren, your great-grandchildren, etc will die and never get to see the 2nd coming of Christ. Because it’s never going to happen! It’s already been over two thousand years and still nothing. [Gun] I’m not afraid of someone carrying a gun.  I taught my two daughters to shoot when they were 6 and 9 years old.  Guns are not the problem.  The problem is lack of respect of the damage a gun can do.  We don’t need more gun laws, (registration) If the government would enforce current gun laws and stop giving them to evil people (Mexico, Syria) but the current admin will never do that. I  have never registered a firearm and never will.  I refuse to let the government know what I own and never will. To the anti gunner crowd, all I can say is, put a sign in front of your house saying it’s a gun free zone.  Good luck.

[Gun]
I agree with the poster that says the problem is with mental health care. How many of these shooters are taking meds, specifically anti-depressants, which are known to cause suicidal tendencies? The drugging of our youth to correct problems instead of parents being parents and children learning how to handle disappointment cannot be helping.
[Gun] So what’s the big deal about guns?  Do they offend you?  Do they scare you?  What are you afraid of?  Has anyone ever pointed a gun at you?  A gun is a tool, just like a hammer, a saw, a screwdriver or a knife.  If used wrong or for evil it can kill someone.  I have been shooting and owning guns since I was 8 years old.  At one time I owned 26 hand guns, rifles and shotguns.  I was taught to respect the damage they can do if not used properly.  I’m a hunter, I’ve shot and eaten 80 – 90 deer in my life, along with hundreds of geese, turkeys, wild boar and ducks.
Springers-ad-750w
[Gun] “Making guns illegal to keep them off the street, then we should also make cocaine illegal to keep it off the street” Does anyone else fail to see the connection besides me? Does cocaine deliberately murder? Guns murder about 11,000 people a year and too many of them are innocent. Cocaine deaths are, if anything, accidental deaths. Gun murder is intentional. The innocent are shot every day. Murder means intentional killing. Cocaine deaths are accidental.

constitution signing
[Gun
] Why don’t all you Constitution fans and experts go back and actually read the damn thing?  Your making me sick of hearing about it.  Your precious 2nd Amendment starts right out talking about the necessity of the Government  maintaining a well regulated militia and not the kind that the kook who shot the 2 Vegas cops was in.  Following that concept, the people should be allowed to have guns, mainly so they could be part of that trained and regulated militia should it become necessary to assemble it in an emergency. That’s it!  Everything else that you have spun it into came from your delusional dreams of glory.  Now you are turning this Country into a vast killing field.
[Gun] “Gun control” I agree this country needs gun control and that every person should be made to take a gun control course so they are in control. The Mob does this for its employees I think, so does the MIC and the fuzz!
Johnsons-ad-750w
[Gun] The ‘patriots’ like gun things just the way they are. To even think otherwise is blasphemy. Is this the civilization they want? The Right is paranoid and wouldn’t oppose a violent overthrow of the present government. They’ll need guns for that. How can they want to live in a foolish country like ours where everyone is afraid? We’re the only country like that. I fear the Gun Right because I fear they will continue our civilization’s decline because of their selfish ideals.
lock-gun12
[Gun] “Gun control and school shootings” Control your damn gun! Don’t let your kid get at it.
[Gun] Two men use girl as human shield — until her father guns them down.  A St. Louis couple is likely thankful to have guns in their home after they were forced to use them to defend their daughter against two men Monday night.
The men, one of whom had an extensive rap sheet, confronted the couples’ 17 year-old daughter after she stepped outside of the house to go to her car, Cortez McClinton, 33, and Terrell Johnson, 31, held a gun to the girl’s head and used her as a shield as they entered the family home, where a five-year old child was also present. The girl’s father and mother witnessed the abduction, and both retrieved their guns. When McClinton and Johnson entered, the father fired several shots, hitting both men. The girl’s mother fired one shot but missed. Johnson died at the scene. McClinton was wounded but was able to scramble off. He had his brother take him to the hospital. In 2010, McClinton was charged with shooting another man. Charges were eventually dropped due to lack of witness participation. He also had drug possession and distribution charges against him. McClinton is charged with second-degree murder, kidnapping, burglary, and criminal armed action and is being held on $1 million bond.

[Gun] Cell phones. When will the slaughter on the highways end? Yesterday 11 children were murdered by cell phones and today 11 more will be murdered by cell phones. Have you ever driven down the road an seen a child driving with a murder instrument in their hand? It’s bad enough that they kill themselves (culling the heard) but they might take you with them. Ban cell phones.

[Gun] I’m tired of people making stuff up. The poster who said there have been 60 school shootings since Sandy Hook is just trying to scare us. Actually it is 74 as of noon on June 11, 2014. School’s still in session so I’m not sure of that number is still accurate by the time this post is read. Link

If Obama notified Congress about trading the soldier isn’t it probable that Republicans would tie up the trade until the soldier died just to make Obama look bad? That’s a good reason for Obama not to notify Congress and it’s not as far fetched after them shutting down the government to prevent Americans getting health care under the Affordable Care Act.
Mosul and Takrit are back in the control of al Qaeda just like when the USA invaded 12 years ago. What a useless war that killed so many for nothing. You can’t really call Iraq a democracy. Not only were the deaths useless but the war almost bankrupted the USA. Thanks for nothing Dubya!

from the right
O.K., now let’s get real. The recent spate of tragedies inflicted on innocents by crazies with guns has sparked a firestorm of controversy over firearms. If you were to believe the media, and the Obama admin, the US is awash in right wing whackadoes running around with guns shooting everything and everybody that moves.crime scene murder outlineBut, what are the facts? Take a look for yourself at the FBI Uniform Crime Report for 2012, the most recent available.  The cogent page is to be found at Link. That page clearly tells us that homicides by gun have decreased from 9,528 in 2008, to 8,855 in 2012 (the latest data available).

Deer Friends that a decrease of murders by gun of about 7% in only 4 years. Think about it, while our population has grown, while we’ve been under great economic stress, while poverty has reached nearly unimaginable levels under Obama, while gun ownership has grown massively, gun homicides have dropped by about 7%.  Look, don’t believe me, look at the freaking FBI stats for yourself. Remember that’s during a time of great fiscal stress, massive unemployment, and a time of exponential increase in gun ownership.

We’ve just learned that Obama has made a decision to attempt to restrict firearms by executive fiat. He say’s screw the Congress. I say: Screw Obama!

————————————-

A POSTER WROTE: “Excuse me FTR, but the AR15  and the AK 47 ” have no military value” and are look-alikes? I beg to differ…it takes nothing to modify certain parts to make them identicle (sic)  and fully functional automatic weapons identicle (sic) to the ones used on battlfields (sic) worldwide.

Do not be naive. In addition, when ‘hunting’ if you can’t hit the target with one or two rounds, one shouldn’t be hunting. One doesn’t need multiple magazines. You DO know why those (magazines) were developed. Yes???”

FTR’S RESPONSE:  What a wonderful posting, it nearly perfectly illustrates the arrogance and the lack of knowledge of so many who lean left.

assult rifle monkeyFirst, let’s think about lack of knowledge.  It is true that it is possible to convert the civilian AK and AR to a fully automatic rifles. But it is not a “nothing” procedure. In the AR, and I believe in the AK, it will require replacement of the entire trigger group. It will be expensive. When you are done you will have a rifle that is not designed to handle the heat and stresses of full auto fire and so will likely fail you. (my source is a licensed gun dealer and  sells civilian AK’s and AR’s) You also will have a rifle that is illegal and possession of which will earn you a couple of decades in Federal Prison. It is legal to own certain fully auto weapons in the US, but it is by special license from the ATF only. I don’t believe that there has been a single death or wounding by auto weapons fire in the US since the Cocaine Cowboys era in Miami. There is no FBI UCR category for it.

Let’s now think about the arrogance. The poster has decided that no one “needs” high capacity magazines. Well, no one needs 450 hp in a car. No one needs a milkshake. No one needs 16oz sugary fountain drinks. No one needs a beer or martini. But a lot of folks want them.  The left has decided that high powered cars, milk shakes, and big fountain drinks are bad for you, so many on the left want them banned or restricted. At one time the do gooders inflicted prohibition on us, we all know how that turned out. Each and every one of those items can cause your death.

I bristle at the notion that anyone can have the temerity to attempt to refuse me my right to consume or own any item or substance because I don’t “need” that item. Personally, I’m not a fan of long guns, have not owned one in years. But there are upstanding pillars of our community who enjoy blasting away at targets with their faux assault rifles down at The Big Coppit Gun Club and ranges throughout our nation. They shoot magazine after magazine after magazine. It’s way too expensive for my taste, but they enjoy it, so be it. There is no rational reason to ban the high cap mags. Nonetheless, the left, in their overarching arrogance, has decided that you don’t “need” them, therefore you must not have them.

—————————————

Part 2) Let’s think about “school shootings”. That term has come to conjure up the image of a deranged camo clad young white male or males prowling school corridors shooting at everyone they see.  That is the image that the left has carefully crafted and wants imprinted in your mind.  The truth is worlds away from that. Coconut Telegraph posters yesterday claimed that there had been between 40 and 74 school shootings since Sandy Hook. One is too many.

The truth is that data from the nation-wide Youth Risk Behavior Survey shows a record-low 5.4 percent of students in grades 9-12 carried a gun on school property, less than half the rate in 1993.

gun-school12The left counts any shooting that is in or near a school as a “school shooting”. While it may be true that some of these episodes took place in or near a school, they do not fit the stereotype foisted on you by the left. Included in those stats are domestic murders, murders by husbands of school employees. Included are suicides of teachers and students that happened in school parking lots and in school rooms. Included are drive by shootings. Included are gun discharges that did not result in injury or death. Using data provided by the gun-control advocacy group, Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, we learn that actually there were 24 school shootings during 2013—that is, shootings that occurred on school campuses when students were present. Shootings that took place after hours on school grounds were not included. The shooters ranged from 5-53 years of age. Two thirds of these shootings took place on high school and college campuses.

It is not rocket science to figure out that a kid who brings a gun to school with the intent to shoot one or multiple victims has some serious mental/emotional problems. Where was the school and the parents when this hate was building? Why didn’t they act?

The spate of shootings in and around schools are not the fault of the guns used. They are the fault of the shooters. Also they are the direct result of a decline in our societal mores. Our entertainment is becoming more and more violence oriented. Murder is exploited on TV and in the movies. Cinematic killers are cast as being macho, worthwhile characters. The music that our youth seems to be addicted to is packed with violence and misogyny. Electronic games are the very essence of murder and mayhem. The “Thug Life” is glorified, youth are being taught that rage and hate are worthwhile attributes.

It’s not the gun, it’s the shooter and it’s our society which is devaluing human life.

A POSTER WROTE: “Aint it great? Dave Brat is ever more psyco (sic) and crazy than Cantor and he wins the primary. Even though all his votes will be just as radical and pro-corporate as Cantor’s,  the consolation for normal people is that Brat will have no seniority or power for many years should he win in the general election….And.. the district is so gerrymandered, he most likely will. Cantor made sure of that..

FTR’S RESPONSE: You’ve just gotta love the left leaners for their rigid inability to be civil when writing about anyone they disagree with. Well, maybe not so much. I really wonder if the left leaner thinks that the misspelled “psyco” and “crazy” snarks help him make his point. The leaners just don’t realize that being rude diminishes them and their argument. Oh well, that’s not a bad thing.
