| On Friday a CT voice, full of hate, shrieked that religion and faith are deadly. The claim was that historically, religion and faith have been this globe’s biggest killers. First of all, there exists no data whatsoever that supports that claim. We must recognize that in the distant past religion played a role in many deadly atrocities ranging from the Crusades to the Salem Witch Trials. Even in those episodes, religion was nearly always nothing more than a veneer to mask a struggle for political gain or power.
Considering the history of this nation, religion has played no part in the waging of any of the many wars which we have endured. The anti religion CT voice is nothing more than yet another battle cry in the truly political war that is being waged against religion of any stripe. There are those political animals that consider religion and religious beliefs an enemy simply because such beliefs are contrary to their political ambitions. |
