[Crooks] Mr. DRUCKEMILLER (County thief Lisa Druckemiller’s son) was arrested again, this time for: And there’s an additional cocaine possession charge too. Armed robbery with a mask (sigh) Tell me again why law abiding citizens don’t need guns with large capacity magazines. If there was ever a reason to fear for ones life and have the right to defend ones self, would it not be to defend yourself against a masked, armed cocaine addict whose intent was to rob and possibly kill you? |
There was four mass shootings before 1988. But during the late 1980’s very important events happened in the field of psychology. Here is a list of anti-depressants and when they were introduce. Citalopram 1989, Paroxetine 1992, Duloxetine 1988, Sertaline 1991, and Fluoxetine 1987. The adverse side effects that they carry are suicidal thoughts and actions. The history of mass shooters show that most of the time they have taken these drugs prior to doing their acts. Since 1988 there have been 46 mass shootings. Does anyone see a correlation here? Anti-depressant usage since 1988 has gone up over 400%! Link |

[Gas v Electric] You guys are missing the newer technology for electric stoves–Induction. These stoves are pricey, but Maytag has a model for $1500. I can boil 4 quarts of water in under 3 minutes, control is instantaneous so when the burner is adjusted the heat input changes right away. And the stovetop itself does not heat up so spills don’t bake on. You cannot use aluminum pans, but stainless and cast iron work great. I loved gas, but when I moved to Big Pine I went with the new electric induction and its great. And its very efficient. |
[Citizens Not Serfs] Another Major Victory for the Citizens of Monroe County! It seems as though FEMA has accepted and has even expressed appreciation for Monroe County’s new amended floodplain management ordinance. This is very important because the new ordinance removes any code enforcement or criminal penalty for failing to have an inspection of downstairs enclosures at the time of sale. This current version of the ordinance (that has been approved by FEMA) included the updated requirements for inspections of downstairs enclosures on Transfer/Sale. In May 2012, the previous inspection on transfer ordinance was deemed to be unenforceable by the county as a result of Florida Statute 553.79(17) because the previous triggering moment for an inspection after a sale was when a buyer requested a building permit. (This triggering moment became illegal on July 1 2012 because Florida Statute 553.79(17) became effective which prohibits the county from searching a downstairs enclosure when a homeowner pulls a building permit on an unrelated portion of the property.) As a result of Citizens Not Serfs’ lobbying, the County Commission passed this amended ordinance that removes any criminal or code enforcement penalty for failing to request an inspection at the time of sale. In addition, the ordinance removes the requirement for demolition of non-compliant downstairs enclosures identified at the time of sale. In the alternative, the stated intent of the ordinance is to simply identify nonconforming structures for county records and to reduce the chance that purchasers will buy structures without knowledge that they are purchasing a nonconforming or illegal structure. In simple terms, this means that our community has been successful in eliminating code enforcement and criminal penalties for failing to request an inspection at the time of sale and in completely eliminating the inspection when a homeowner requests a building permit on a portion of the property unrelated to the downstairs enclosure. These are huge victories for Monroe County citizens! Although we have accomplished a lot so far, Citizens Not Serfs’ work related to downstairs enclosures will not be done until FEMA’s Downstairs Enclosure Pilot program is officially terminated. The professional studies demonstrating the inequalities and irrationalities related to downstairs enclosure policies will be completed early in 2013 and we promise to keep you posted on their results as soon as they are completed. The studies should be very powerful in supporting out mission to end the Pilot. We assure you that we are still working hard towards the end of these destructive programs. If you are interested in financially supporting these efforts, please send a check to Citizens Not Serfs at 1045 Flagship Lane Summerland Key Fl 33042. |

[“You can light gas burners with a match but it is dangerous and difficult”] Are you serious? Is this what the Keys has come to? People effin afraid to light the gawddamned stove? Jeeeeeze anybody remember this place and what we used to light in the late 70’s down here? Ahoy Mr. Wussy-Mainlander New-Jerseyberg! There’s a thing called a Scripto Long-necked Lighter. They come in packs of two for about $6. No they are not ever discounted for early-bird or Happy Hour. Once you use one, you’ll never flash burn your eyebrows off on the grill again, I promise. Simply place the long neck lighter, the (hot end) next to the burner, pull the trigger to ignite a flame. Turn on the burner, preferably the one the lighter is next to, and voila, you got fire without electricity. Now, do I have to warn you not to put your head in the oven with the gas on and ignite the …nah, I probably don’t, you can’t possibly be that …can you? |

There’s so much mingling in Marathon of money and egos. Coming from a real city with real wise guys, MonroeCounty is nothing but people who think they are big fish but are living in a very small and polluted pool. This entire cast of bit part characters wouldn’t last a minute if this theater was in a real city with real actors. They’d have all been rolled up in smelly old carpets and left in dumpsters by now. When will these geriatric wannabe has-beens realize their reign is over and it’s time to move on? The idea of two old farts fighting over a female is cause to call for murder is foolishness, but then isn’t that what most of MonroeCounty politics is all about? |

[IKC] How many iguana killers does it take to prepare an iguana for dinner? Three. One to prepare the iguana, the other two to watch for traffic. |
[“FTR weekly review”] Who ever wrote that hit every nail on the head. Myself, originally from Connecticut, have one thing to add to this outstanding review. I just wanted to let the FTR guy know that Newtown, CT is part of Fairfield County, which happens to have the highest per capita income of any county in the entire U. S. Newtown itself has a per capita income of $116,249 as of last year. The medial average price of a home in this area is $346,000.00 as of last year. FTR made a claim that they must be mostly registered Democrats in that town. Look at the last two stats and I’ll bet there many more Republicans there than Dems. Not too many blue color workers in that town, nor middle class. Another incident where FTR opened his mouth without checking stats that count. |

[“I do not support the troops”] Very real and true. If you really want to support the troops, contact your Senator/congressperson and demand they bring the troops Home. Then make sure they are taken care of especially with medical aid, which we don’t do a very good job of right now. Too many are homeless, suicidal or have severe injuries from their time served. It’s time to stop courting Big Business/Big Oil interest and just take care of our heroes. |

[Ultimate New Radar at Boca Chica NAS] One of the biggest improvements is the simultaneous inclusion of all aircraft information such as location, speed, height and direction as well as weather. Because the county commissioners believe the county administrator when he tells them these races are a good source of revenue. Question is – is the little revenue worth the massive problems? |

[Jersey Beefalos] Recently while driving around the avenues on Big Pine Key I suddenly had to swerve to avoiding running into a small herd of Jersey beefalos that were feeding out of a fried chicken container. Sadly I ran over a medium size iguana. Fortunately there was no damage to my vehicle, but I have to wonder how much damage would have occurred if I had hit the grazing herd. I did take the iguana home and ate it that night. I would never do that with a Jersey girl. |

[“The school district and the kids’ parents failed the kid and failed society by not dealing with his demons”] I beg to differ with FTR in this statement. All of us failed this child, it shows in the statements of “Dorky, Weird, Bullied” It would be interesting to see if he came from a single parent home, like the CT shooter. Where are the men, oh that’s right they leave when the going gets tough. Single mothers live in poverty most of the time, where are the programs for these child who need help. Where were the teachers when the bullying occurred, in their classrooms, where most of the bullying stops. Where was the bus driver, better yet where was his father? Where are the programs for kids. Nowhere in America, certainly not in the Big Pine area. Programs for children who need help are non existent due to the financial cost. Anybody know a shrink that is poor? It does take a village to raise a child, the problem is America in no longer a village.
I just talked to a mother today who told me her son’s friend, that they helped nurture, (single mother again) died in October due to a heroin overdose. [Captain Doom and Gloom] We locals would like to thank all you Snowbirds for bringing all those lonely germs into the Keys with you. Ah, there is nothing like living in a sick ward called Paradise. Come on April! “Why can’t we find capable leadership now” Because you destroyed the teachers who taught kids to be adults, who gave kids guts. All gone. Those who are left are left because they get it all for free. Like history, we are going down the tubes, the TV tubes and sewer tubes. Unless the males in this country take back their control, all is lost. Stop wearing tight shorts, theycut off circulation. A friend stopped by the PO in Summerland this morning to drop off a letter in the mailbox in front of the office only to be reminded by a biker that he got a $150 ticket for doing the same thing the other day. You aren’t even allowed to leave your car for a couple of seconds to drop letter there. Now, it would be rational if they put that box on a curb so you could drop off the mail on the run but they don’t. Instead, they have cops make money on your account just to drop a letter in their receptacle. When are the freaking parking meters being installed in the parking lot? “Marathon Port of Entry plan” Besides what the post mentioned, why not just use Key West which is almost a POE already? After all, most of the illegals row into the docks at night anyway, instead of going up to MM 50 plus. With Tampa and Ft Lauderdale and Key West making the perfect triangle for cruise ships, who wants to go to Marathon where there’s no real international-sized airport to support the volume of people. Key West airport is also too small for jumbo jets, but that can be fixed with a few billion tax dollars, right, or rent the Navy base? No Respect: The USDA and the WATER Works are the most important organizations there are, but the least respected, why? |
[Tea Party cannot stop the flood of progress] A Dutch legend is that a small boy passing a dike on his way to school notices a small leak trickling through a little hole. He poked his finger into the hole, stemming the flow of water. Later, help came to him. There is an enlarging hole in the dike of obstructionism, hatemongering, groundless accusations, promoting fears of all kinds, ridiculous statements, hypocrisy, homophobia, paranoia, absurd characterizations and plain stupidity. All these, and more, fall within absolute neoconservatism and absolute Tea Party adherence. The gushing flow of progress includes marriage equality, using military force only as a last resort to failed diplomacy, a woman’s right to make decisions about her body, allowing immigrants a path to citizenship, a balance of entitlements/ revenue (especially on the very rich), responsible gun control, responding to our man-made climate changes, continuing support of the United Nations and Planned Parenthood and retaining Social Security and Medicare. This gushing forth of progress is coming mainly from Bashir, Obama, Maddow, Matthews, Schultz, Giffords/ Kelly, Belosi, O’Donnell and an exciting new group of legislators, mostly females. Support to hold back this progress is slipping: Declining numbers of neocons, Tea Party power diminishing, some Republicans seeing their once “Grand Ol’ Party” being pulled over the cliff to increasing insignificance (self destroying), and people sick and tired of the antique birthers. You Tea Party Republicans do not have enough fingers to stop this exciting evolution. America is growing to become a beautiful country of spiritual inclusiveness, diversity and compassion. Why not join us, the U.S.? ~Jim Remington, Key West |

In the coming New Year, 2013, both Groundhog Day and the State of the Union address will occur on the same day. This is an ironic juxtaposition of events.
