The Key Deer are Doomed as a wild species in the Lower Florida Keys.
According to the May 3,2024 News Barometer USFWS says that by 2045 sea rise will nearly inundate the habitat of the Lower Keys marsh rabbit. The habitat of the Key Deer will also be disappearing at the same time. Long before the habitat is inundated, the fresh water resources will become saline. Of course, USFWS believes they have the answers. It is projects like the Big Pine Key Hydrology Project, which cost $1,000,000 and according to the designers, made the project area Hyper-Saline at the end of an extremely wet rainy season and fall. They say this project “will allow for more storage and availability of fresh water” even though the project failed. They have declared the buttonwood trees are a problem for the rabbits and “plans call for the use of prescribed fire in that area as well to clear out the underbrush”. They also mention that habitat fragmentation and land clearing are a problem for the rabbit. These are also problems for the Key Deer. USFWS has cleared more land and caused more habitat fragmentation in the last ten years than all the development on Big Pine Key has in the last thirty years. Since 2016, the management of the Key Deer Refuge has cleared more than 150 acres of the most critical habitat for Key deer, and the endangered species that are left on Big Pine and No Name Keys. Less the 5 acres outside of the refuge has been cleared. The biodiversity of the Key Deer Refuge has decreased by 50% since 1980. As long as the management remains in this vacuum of any logic or science it will only get worse. The oversight & advocacy groups for the natural resources that the Key deer and remaining endangered species need for their survival are missing in action. Many species that the refuge likes to state they are responsible for are gone. The Indigo snake has been extinct since the 90’s. The Florida Leafwing butterfly has been extinct since 2006. The management of the natural resources of Big Pine Key in the last twenty years is dreadful, uninformed, and is wasting millions and millions of dollars, and is clearly making everything worse. If anybody really cares about the survival of the Key Deer they should start to fight for them and stop endorsing the idiotic management that is making matters worse. |
I saw this decapitated marsh rabbit Monday morning at 5:30 on Osprey Lane (north of the Lutheran church). It must have just been killed, the blood was fresh and only a couple of ants were on it. About 6 months ago I saw a 4’ gator in the same area. I’ve seen the rabbit several times, the gator only once. I couldn’t get a very good photo because of the lighting and my lack of skill. |
[Gay Sex] There’s so much out-of-proportion-to-the-population gay sex on TV that whenever I see two same sex characters I assume they’ll have sex together eventually. That’s not right. Gay people are only a fraction of the population. Lesbians are about 1-3% but are featured in 90% of new productions since 2023. That’s not right. |
[Porn] Here it is 2024 and there is actually someone here who doesn’t know how to view porn on the internet. Astonishing! Ok, I’ll help. I suggest the private search engine DuckDuckGo. Type Stormy Daniels porn (although I can’t imagine wanting to look at that skank) or any perverted thing you can think of and bam! And it’s free. You can handle it. Just don’t let your mother catch you. |
[Pepsi Porn] Rock it, Girl! |

[Inventions] The inventor of the engine (many argue about who really did it) used a horse every day of his life. He had to because that was what was available at the time while he figured out how to make it easier. The inventor of the light bulb worked by candle light. The inventor of steel had a house full of iron. People building cleaner more renewable energy need to drive cars, ride on planes, and heat their houses with gas, because that is whats available to them. Participating in the world as it is does not disqualify you from trying to improve it. |
(Tutoring) Dumb America, the nation where intelligence goes to die. America will be remembered as that nation just too stupid to survive. |
[The Old Ones] If you want to know how old a woman is, ask her sister-in-law. Old age comes at a bad time. Inside every older person is a younger person wondering what happened. Old age is like a plane flying through a storm. Once you are aboard, there is nothing you can do about it. The older I get, the more clearly I remember things that never happened. I’m at that age where my back goes out more than I do. Nice to be here? At my age, it’s nice to be anywhere. First you forget names, then you forget faces, then you forget to pull your zipper up, then you forget to pull your zipper down. You spend 90 percent of your adult life hoping for a long rest and the last 10 percent trying to convince the Lord that you’re actually not that tired. Old people shouldn’t eat health foods. They need all the preservatives they can get. |
[Automation] I made a key today at Home Depot. They have a new do-it‐yourself key machine. Like a coffee machine. You plug in your key, press a few buttons and your new key drops into the slot |
I wear blue jeans because you can wipe your hands on them for months and it never shows. Any other pants I have to change daily. Jeans, I can wear for weeks. |
What happened when scientists taught parrots to video chat? Parrots preferred live Facebook Messenger exchanges to pre-recorded squawking. As pets, they’re often kept on their own, which can cause them to develop negative behaviors like excessive pacing or feather-plucking. Video |
Protestors want an Israeli/Hamas cease fire. They had a ceasefire in place until October 7 when Hamas broke the cease fire and attacked Israel. So now it seems that the Jews are the bad guys because Hamas broke the peace. |
The passenger liner RMS Lusitania sank after being torpedoed by a German U-boat off the coast of Ireland, resulting in 1,197 deaths. Though the ship was British, 128 Americans were among the dead, which shifted public opinion in the U.S. and contributed to its entry into World War I two years later. |
[Virtual Private Networks At Risk] TunnelVision, as the researchers have named their attack, largely negates the entire purpose and selling point of VPNs, which is to encapsulate incoming and outgoing Internet traffic in an encrypted tunnel and to cloak the user’s IP address. The researchers believe it affects all VPN applications when they’re connected to a hostile network and that there are no ways to prevent such attacks except when the user’s VPN runs on Linux or Android. They also said their attack technique may have been possible since 2002 and may already have been discovered and used in the wild since then. Link |
[Doctor Who] There’s a new Doctor in the house. More than 60 years after Doctor Who began its enduring run as a British TV institution, the sci-fi adventure series has moved to Disney and installed a 15th incarnation of the time traveler who leads the show. Ncuti Gatwa of Sex Education steps into the role, keeping the franchise’s British accent intact as his Doctor journeys from prehistoric times through Regency England and into apocalyptic futures to save our corner of space from being swallowed by the universe. |

[Google Find My Device] You can use Find My Device today to locate devices when they’re connected to the internet. With the new Find My Device network, you’ll be able to locate your devices even if they’re offline. You can also find any compatible Fast Pair accessories when they’re disconnected from your device. This includes compatible earbuds and headphones, and trackers that you can attach to your wallet, keys, or bike. Your Android devices will do the same to help others find their offline items when detected nearby. Link |
[Tractor Rampage] Key West police fired at a suspect who was wielding a tractor Saturday at The College of the Florida Keys. Ethan Layne, 22, was arrested on a charge of attempted homicide of a police officer. When officers got to 5901 College Rd. Upon police arrival, the tractor started ramming an occupied police vehicle. Shots were fired by Key West police. All shots missed, and Layne was arrested. Link |
