[November 11th is Veterans Day] It marks the anniversary of the end of the First world war – the war to end all wars on November 11 at 11 am in 1918. This country has not seen and probably will never know the true level of sacrifice of our veterans. All citizens owe an unpayable debt to all our military. Going forward let’s not send our servicemen and women off to war or conflict zones unless it is overwhelmingly justifiable and on moral high ground. The men of WWII were the greatest generation, perhaps Korea the forgotten, Vietnam the trampled, Cold War unsung and Iraqi Freedom and Afghanistan vets underappreciated. Every generation has proved itself to be worthy to stand up to the precedent of the greatest generation. Going back to the Revolution, American soldiers have been the best in the world. Let’s all take a remembrance for all veterans who served or are serving, peace time or wartime and gone or still with us. |
[“N.C. property tax bills”] I contacted Milton Cubas 1 PE’s office. They apologize for sending the misleading letter. |
[Long Dong John] The man who stunned the world with his ’19-INCH penis’, only to be accused of faking it ‘by stretching his foreskin by 12 inches with weights’. He has to keep his manhood wrapped in bandages to stop it from chaffing against his legs. |
[Greed] Dentists are pulling ‘healthy’ and treatable teeth to profit from implants, experts warn. I should have asked more questions like, “Can they save these teeth?” Link |
[Monster Conspiracy] Fox News host Tucker Carlson revealed that he was “physically mauled” by a demon while in bed 18 months ago. The assault left him bleeding from “claw marks” on his sides, he said. “No one has to believe me. But that happened to me.” |
I gave my wife a Pug dog yesterday. Despite the smushed nose, the bulging eyes and the rolls of fat, the dog seems to like her. |
[Ball Cleaner] I’m writing this post from the hospital. Don’t worry, the doctors say I’m going to be fine. But I feel I should warn you that the “Dyson Ball Cleaner” has a very misleading name. |
Puerto Ricans float on their garbage to get closer to the cats they are going to eat. |
A Rat terrier killed 250 rats in a barn in 7 hrs. That’s why they are called rat terriers. I don’t know why New York City doesn’t buy a bunch of these dogs to rid the city if it’s famous rats. /they see everything! |
[Deteriorated] After Irma and feeling so helpless as my property lay in ruins, I was dangerous from the devastation and ready to fight. I’m ashamed I became like that so quickly. I still feel guilty over trying to take out my anger on those who tried to help. |
Thanksgiving used to be the 3d Thursday of November, now it’s the 4th Thursday? As 1941 ended, Roosevelt made the final permanent change, as he signed a bill making Thanksgiving Day fall on the fourth Thursday of November, regardless of if it is the last Thursday of the month or not. |
Positivity opens us. The first core truth about positive emotions is that they open our hearts and our minds, making us more receptive and more creative. |
[Cell Renewal] More fascinating still is the discovery that the pace of cell renewal doesn’t simply follow some predetermined script. It varies depending on what you do and how you feel. A key signal that tells your cells whether to decay or grow, for instance, is movement. A sedentary lifestyle hastens cell decay. An active lifestyle hastens cell renewal. This is true for both your body and your brain. |
[Sherman’s March To The Sea] “1865. General Stoneman is under my command, and my order will suspend any devastation or destruction contemplated by him. I will add that I really desire to save the people of North Carolina the damage they would sustain by the march of this army through the central or western parts of the State. I am, with respect, your obedient servant, W. T. SHERMAN, Major-General” |
[Health] How long can you stand on one leg? What it says about your health. Our ability to balance decreases as we age. If you can’t stand on your leg for five seconds, you’re at risk of falls. If a person can stand on their leg for 30 seconds, they’re doing really well, especially if they’re older. There are steps you can take to train your balance. Standing on one leg can train the body to coordinate muscle and vestibular responses to keep our bodies in correct balance. Link |
[Death by Reckless Boater] A Hialeah woman was killed and several others were injured after a boat crashed off Key West on Thursday, officials say. The 39-foot Deep Impact, four-engine boat was traveling through the Calda Channel north of Key West when the operator — 47-year-old Reinaldo Aquit, from Miami Beach — made a hard right turn, causing six of the passengers to be ejected, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Several of the passengers were injured and taken to area hospitals. Link |

[Climate Breakdown] When we built the house in 1978 we couldn’t see the sea. We never imagined that one day it would reach us. Climate change can be denied all they want but it is here and affecting lives. Link |
[Visualizing World War II] Start with this map, published in the Los Angeles Times on September 10th, 1939, only ten days after Germany’s invasion of Poland. Link |

[Waving Goodbye] For 27 years, I took photographs as I waved good-bye and drove away from visiting my parents at their home in Sioux City, Iowa. I started in 1991 with a quick snapshot, and I continued taking photographs with each departure. I never set out to make this series. I just took these photographs as a way to deal with the sadness of leaving. It gradually turned into our good-bye ritual. |
