[TV show sent hundreds of children to the hospital] On December 16, 1997, an episode of Pokemon aired that would make the series infamous the world over. Season 1, Episode 38 of the series, known as ”Dennō Senshi Porygon” in Japan, and “Electric Solider Porygon” outside of Japan, would have gone down in history as indistinguishable from any of the other episodes from the popular franchise except for one dangerous flaw. Twenty minutes into the episode there is a scene where Pikachu, the iconic yellow Pokemon, stops a missile attack with his thunderbolt strike. The missiles explode and the screen flashes red and blue in a rapid Anime animation technique known as “paka paka”. The blinking was long enough (approximately six seconds) and at the right frequency (12 Hz), that it triggered a neurological response in around 12,000 viewers, all children, around Japan. The children complained of blurred vision, headaches, nausea, and in more severe cases, they experienced seizures and loss of consciousness. 685 children (310 boys and 375 girls) were transported by ambulance to local hospitals for treatment. The series was suspended for four months after the incident, and Japanese television studios released guidelines to prevent future animated programs from causing similar reactions. |
It would sure cut down crime if we passed laws that put criminals into Gulags and they had to work to eat, no phones, to TV, no computers, just work or die. The key here is the word work. You do bad, you pay the price for life! And if their trial lawyers get them off and they do bad again, the lawyer gets to live with his client in the same cell and to work for a living for a change. Merry Christmas. |
I watched the last County Commissioners meeting and was amazed how unprofessional it was conducted by Murphy and Neugent, especially when Mr Kohledge was commenting about all the bicycle events in the Keys and Neugent spoke up and said is your wife having trouble getting out of Key Haven and laughed. Also County Nanager Gatassi reported how much he accomplished for the County. He forgot to include the stolen phones he got for his family and should have been punished for. I can’t believe the County would trust him to negotiate on a 5 million dollar purchase when he was involved in an incident which was of an ethical and criminal nature. Go figure. Neugent wants himself and Gatassi to be evaluated by fellow Commissioners prior to getting a raise. I think the citizens should rate them as we pay their salary and know how their performance affects us. |

[Trouble at the FTR guy household] As they gazed down on the tree they couldn’t help notice a distinct absence of gifts. Clearly being a hardcore naysayer had been noted by Santa Claus. |
Wishing you a festive holiday season and a very happy New Year filled with peace, happiness and of course…lots of BIG FISH! |
Ransomware is a type of malware that will lock a computer user out of their computer, encrypt all their files and/or hard-drive, or severely restrict access to the infected system until the user pays the malware author a ‘fee’ to regain access to their files and/or system. A favorite tactic used by many ransomware authors is impersonating the FBI and deploying a message claiming that child pornography has been found on the user’s computer, or that they have been caught using pirated software. The ransomware then seeks to coerce the computer user into paying the ‘fine’ via Bitcoin or MoneyPak cards, therefore providing an ‘opportunity’ to avoid ‘arrest and prosecution’ before a set time limit has passed. It is a sick world we live in! |

[Citizens of the Day] A person puts comments on here many times a week about the Citizen of the Day from the Keysnews. I like to post about our real locals that have more to say then the miss America beauty queen (world peace). Irene at the Big Pine Coffee Shop, she waitresses, raises 3 boys, and has another baby on the way. She is the best mom that anyone could wish for. Her kids swim and enjoy life in the Keys. Cindy in the bakery at Winn Dixie, she does the job of 3 people and cooks fish at the flea market on the weekends. Kim at Dions, worked as a bartender at most of our local bars while the owners changed many times. Her husband is disabled and she still greets you with a happy smile. Merry Christmas to all these girls and all of you! |

[“Remember Wilma”] We had pin fish swimming in our front yard at Sugarloaf Shores with 5 feet of flood water to do it in. That’s when we found out that those people in stilt houses with required flood insurance subsidize those people with houses on the ground (read rock). Three weeks of going to Big Pine for ice. We did fill our bath tub with potable water, pre-cooked food for after the hurricane and turned off all electricity coming to our house. We learned a lot from Georges. Indeed, no grinder pumps! |
[“Whiners”] To the poster labeling us as whiners for wanting the gravity system versus having FKAA take a chunk of our very small yards to install a very questionable device for this environment, we do not all live in a remote area and those who do are only asking that it be placed in the right of way, not their yards. Why do you find that so unreasonable? Do your homework as we have. I urge everyone to go to the new Dump The Pumps Facebook page and view our County Commissioner’s response to one of his constituent’s concerns over his total un-involvement in our plight. I cannot see how the neighborhood off Barry Avenue (Barry, Powell and Heck Avenues) can be considered low density. We can practically reach out and touch our neighbors and the streets are very short. To our Commissioners (Ms. Murphy) who say they know nothing about engineering and will therefore listen to the experts (FKAA) please pay attention. FKAA has been openly telling you and us that gravity is the better way to go here in the Keys. |
[Sugar Plum Fairy] Here’s a video that I hope you will enjoy. It is astonishingly beautiful and a perfect Christmas audio greeting. I hope you enjoy it. What a clever animal we are! If we all try a little harder, perhaps one day there will be Peace on Earth! Video |
Excerpts from the Chelmsford, MA grinder pump meeting. But of course, grinder pumps would be trouble free on hurricane prone islands less than 6 feet above the Atlantic Ocean! Go figure. “Jan Andrews of St. Andrew’s Way told the board that her condominium association has paid $60,000 replacing the pumps, although she was just as concerned with other issues surrounding the topic. “On top of health issues because a lot of you know what is piling up, why are you allowing condominium developers to continue putting in these pumps when you know it doesn’t work right?,” she said to the Selectmen.” Yep, you guessed it, “The majority of grinder pumps in Chelmsford are the E-One model.” Link |

[Mystery Candidate] I understand that you’re in favor of short term rentals, grinder pumps, topless bars and a tent city at Watson Field for the homeless. If you find any of this offensive, stay out of politics! It’s ugly, mean and not for the faint of heart. If you have kids they will be hurt, if you’re married that will be a target. If you’re not, that will be an issue. None of it need be true or have anything to do with your platform. You feeling me lady? Merry Christmas. |

So our Mystery Candidate wants a working class specific noise ordinance. I got her number now. Yet another suffering indispensable unappreciated local who see themselves as the backbone of the Keys, but in reality is just one part of an endless supply drifting through. There isn’t much rocket science around here. |

[“Plenteous”] Yes it is a word.Definition of plenteous (adj) Bing Dictionary Thanks for asking, Merry Christmas. |
Why whine about whose sewer costs more or less than someone else’s? This is about helping to keep the waters of our precious Keys clean using the least intrusive method for every homeowner, not the cheapest, which will help all of us in the long run. This is one County project I am all in on, and I live on the income poverty line. |

[Alphabetical Organizing Files] Renaming files in a folder in Windows 7; how do I turn off alphabetical organizing of the renamed files? I work with photos and take them in order in the field. I place these photos in folders and then rename photos within these folders by street address. When I do this, the new alphabetical organizing features rearranges the order of my photos and messes me up totally sometimes. This didn’t happen in any other Windows plaform I’ve used before and I’ve been labeling my photos in this manner now for 10 years. This is not a feature I wanted Microsoft to add for me in Windows 7. I would love to know how to turn this feature off? How to Disable Auto Arrange in Folders in Windows 7. Link |
I goofed yesterday when I wrote that only 41% of us now favor Democare. On Monday CNN released the latest poll. It revealed that now only 35% of us support Democare. Even worse for those who passed this law is that the poll reveals that almost all of the loss came from women, whose opposition rose from 54 percent to 60 percent in only a month. The administration has tried to highlight advantages for women such as free preventative care that covers mammograms. Nonetheless, women are seeing less and less in the ACA to like. Those who passed the law are in deep trouble. Thanks to those of you have taken the time to send an email. I’ll be paraphrasing a couple of them here in the next few days. Thanks again. Merry Christmas and a truly wonderful New Year! ~FTR Please send me your comments at 1776ftr@gmail.com |
