[“$2 dollars an hour + tips”] I’m sure I won’t be only one to post a slap “up the side up the head” to the poster who so smugly gave the information for the State of Florida’s current minimum hourly wage of $7.67.  Obviously the poster has never worked a day in the food and beverage industry, where the hourly wage has been $2 an hour + tips practically forever, at least for recent memory, the past twenty years or so.  Are you feeling bad for not getting a pay increase for a few years now?  Think about how waitresses feel.

Remember that the next time a waitress or waiter serves you, the only money they make is their tips, often split with other staff.  They often work 12 hour shifts and work very hard for the money.  Be generous with your tips, you won’t even feel it, and it makes a huge difference to them.  You know who tips the best?  It’s the average Joe and Jill that work hard themselves and understand what it is to really work for a living.  They don’t have a lot of money, but they’re willing to tip that extra few bucks for good service and a smile. The worse tippers are Canadians, Blacks and Professionals.

[Judge Says Cop Can Sue]  Ragali was reportedly burned extensively on his right arm.  The hand has not healed well enough for Ragali to return to work.  “He has not been able to get back to work,” attorney Karen Terry said. “He wanted his job back badly, or to do light duty, but the Sheriff’s Office was not able to accommodate him. There were no positions available, which is disappointing to him. He was proud to go to work every day.”

Someone with some Labor Law knowledge should look into this. My understanding is that the ADA requires “reasonable accommodations.” Too bad our Sheriff’s Department couldn’t make such accommodations for one of their own.  He must not be one of the bubbas.

[“Pick-up trucks back them into parking spaces”] I’ve wondered about that too. I’ve always owned large pickup trucks and never back in. I can’t see what it saves. Maneuvering in to a spot or maneuvering out of the spot contain the same amount of wheel turning and rear view mirror looking. I think it’s some kind of macho thing.

[Nut Control] I had a doctors appointment at the local VA clinic yesterday and found out something very interesting that I would like to pass along. While going through triage before seeing the doctor, I was asked at the end of the exam, three questions:
1. Did I feel stressed
2. Did I feel threatened?
3. Did I feel like doing harm to someone?

The nurse then informed me that if I had answered yes to any of the questions I would have lost my concealed carry permit as it would have gone into my medical records and the VA would have reported it to Homeland Security.

After getting mySunPassmachine, I realized how great it is and how much pollution is saves the planet by not having to stop and go at stupid toll booths.  Now if we could only make pedestrians wake up to the fact that when they strep off the curb and make 50 vehicles stop to allow them to cross the street instead of waiting for the traffic to clear, then we might have another sensible way to keep pollution down. Shoes do not pollute!

The US Senate’s and US House of Representatives’  yeas and nays are responsible for everything done or not done in the last 4 years.

Keep the incumbent from doing something, then accuse the incumbent of not doing anything.  If the Reps are going to accuse the president, then they also have to acknowledge and accept responsibility for their role in nothing getting done. Blaming the President for any of the current situations is futile. Presidents don’t work in vacuums.

Only In America” Observations ~ by a Canadian:
Only in America, could politicians talk about the greed of the rich at a $35,000.00 a plate campaign fund-raising event.
Only in America, could people claim that the government still discriminates against black Americans when they have a black President, a black Attorney General, and roughly 18% of the federal workforce is black while only 12% of the population is black.
Only in America, could they have had the two people most responsible for our tax code, Timothy Geithner, the head of the Treasury Department and Charles Rangel who once ran the Ways and Means Committee, both turn out to be tax cheats who are in favor of higher taxes.
Only in America, can they have terrorists kill people in the name of Allah and have the media primarily react by fretting that Muslims might be harmed by the backlash.
Only in America, would they make people who want to legally become American citizens wait for years in their home countries and pay tens of thousands of dollars for the privilege while we discuss letting anyone who sneaks into the country illegally just ‘magically’ become American citizens.
Only in America, could the people who believe in balancing the budget and sticking by the country’s Constitution be thought of as “extremists.”
Only in America, could you need to present a driver’s license to cash a check or buy alcohol, but not to vote.
Only in America, could people demand the government investigate whether oil companies are gouging the public because the price of gas went up when the return on equity invested in a major U.S. oil company (Marathon Oil) is less than half of a company making tennis shoes (Nike).
Only in America, could the government collect more tax dollars from the people than any nation in recorded history, still spend a Trillion dollars more than it has per year – for total spending of $7-Million PER MINUTE, and complain that it doesn’t have nearly enough money.
Only in America, could the rich people – who pay 86% of all income taxes – be accused of not paying their “fair share” by people who don’t pay any income taxes at all.

It’s very simple, when you go to vote in less than two weeks, ask yourself if you are better off today than 4 years ago.

[No Chance of Voter Fraud] I just took my mother to early voting in Tarrant County,TX. She had her photo ID and utility bill. While in line I asked one of the people working the voting center if I could vote there even if I lived in another city. I was told, “Sure”, all I needed was a photo ID or voter registration card. On a hunch, I said I had neither and what could I do. I was told I could go out to my car and get my car title or proof of insurance card and vote with one of those.

Last I remember, neither document has my picture on it and I can be anyone, citizen or not and go to Safe Auto and pay to get minimum insurance and get an insurance card. Well, I was born at night but not last night so it looks like this is ripe for voter fraud to me. Don’t most people carry their insurance card in their car and how many cars a night are broken into in the US?

[Pull Out on Time] On November 17, 2008, the U.S. and Iraqi governments signed an agreement on the withdrawal of U.S. forces in Iraq. Article 24,paragraph 1, “The U.S. shall withdraw all forces from Iraqi territory no later than December 31, 2011.” Unless memory fails me, George Bush was still President inn 2008. So much for President Obama’s claims that he ended the war in Iraq. All that he did was to carry out the provisions of the agreement.

[Size Matters] Fox News: “Obama has a smaller flag pin than Mitt Romney. Clearly he’s not proud of America, is he?”

Its kind of interesting to see how many Republicans disagree with Mitt Romney. On the C.T. every day we read about all of the things Obama’s doing wrong. Obama wrong on Egypt, wrong on Iraq, wrong on the Afghanistan troops surge, Obama wrong on Israel, wrong on the Arab spring, wrong on Iran.

The man running for president said on national TV that he agrees with 90% of what our President is doing. He even said he can see manufacturing jobs returning. Romney has made the case for me. I agree Mitt, I also think Obama’s done a fine job and needs more time to continue. Thanks Mitt. You’ve convinced me.

[Horses and bayonets]  Funny? I thought Obama came off as a condescending ass, neither the continuing defense of our country or the economy is any laughing matter. It’s to bad so many people are so easily entertained. Oh I didn’t get to do any stupid tweeting either so tweet, tweet, what a waste of life.

[The Sin of Omission] When posters quote what one says about a subject , and omit a key portion of the point the other poster was attempting to make this is known as lying by omission, it is a cheap method of trying to get ones ideology across and in reality gains one nothing, as other folks reading the latter’s post  are immediately aware of this childish method of attempting to be cute. Case in point. many large Corp. operating in foreign countries are making millions or billions of dollars overseas, thus their stock is going up, however those same companies which are located in the U.S. are struggling here at best,  (think G.M.)  I believe the left-wing poster is aware of this fact, but as usual facts are irrelevant to their ideology.

I keep seeing about Obama being the reason the stock market is up. Corporate earnings are up, etc. Did you notice we lost more than 500 points in the DOW in 5 days. Corporate profits are dismal and big companies are going to lay off due to economic situation.

How is the Libya mess not the end to this lying shameless administration. If a republican were in office us democrats would have hung him or her. I made a big mistake voting for Obama. He knew all along over 300 people were notified. Link

[Free Phones] Dear poster from Texas and reader of The Current.  The phones are paid for by a tax on cell users and was instituted years ago under Republicans and expanded by Clinton.  Other than that. Texas sounds like a majorly f–ked up place to live. Thanks for the update.

The fact that Mitt Romney’s son owns the machines which count the votes in Ohio is more than a little bit scary, but not as scary as Mitt’s lack of world politics.

How can I be worried  about deficits when the great Republican Vice President Dick Cheney (under President George Bush, the last President before Obama for those who can’t remember that far back) famously pronounced as fact that “deficits don’t matter”.

Obama is a Muslim because he said nice things about them and used a TelePrompTer.

A Flip-flop is not just a shoe. Romney has changed his position on war with Iran, abortion, and just about everything else in the last month. Who is he and just what are his positions? I’m really concerned by his lack of world politics.

President Obama has yet to lay out his path for a second term. But we know what it would bring — a repeat of the last four years. The President’s path is one of higher debt, lower take-home pay, and rising unemployment.

Don’t be scared. Mitt Romney has a clear path for a brighter future. His plan creates 12 million new jobs, increases take-home pay, and gets people off food stamps by getting them good jobs.

Obama can get his ass out of the White House. Have you seen the market for the last week? All gains lost.

 From the Right

There were some chortles from the left which expressed joy at the notion that our economy was in recovery mode.  Deer Friends, that notion is not shared by the stock market or the business community. Last Friday saw the steepest drop in the market in months. The sell-off was caused by a parade of horrible earnings reports. On Friday the Dow lost over 200 points.  During the day Monday, it again plummeted down by more than 108 points, but managed to finish about even for the day. Yesterday, the Dow again fell off of a cliff; it closed down at $243. That’s a loss of $443 in only 3 trading days. What follows is a cut and paste from yesterday’s Huffington Post on the issue: “NEW YORK— Nobody was expecting this earnings season to be great. But investors didn’t expect the bad news from corporate bellwethers to be this bad, either. Stocks plunged Tuesday, making it one of the worst days on Wall Street so far this year and sending the major indexes to their lowest levels since early September. Big-name companies reported weak quarterly earnings and lowered their forecasts for the rest of the year.”

One poster gleefully told us that: “(Obama’s)“Today Right Now” plan is working just fine, thank you very much”.  Deer Friends, do you think that the fact that two out of every three Americans who are able to work, are not working is a good thing? If so, vote Obama.  If you think that $16+ trillion in national debt is a good thing, then you should vote for Obama. If you think the fact that the average middle class net worth has declined by about 30% under Obama is a good thing, please vote for Obama.  If you admire the Obama supporters who promise to riot if Romney wins, then by all means vote for Obama. If you share the desire to murder Mr. Romney, as have many Obama supporters, vote for Obama.  By all means vote for Obama if you are proud that food stamp spending has doubled under Obama. If you feel all warm and cozy when the President of the United States has been proven to be a serial liar, vote Obama. If you are proud that Mr. Obama’s foreign policy has emboldened the Muslim Brotherhood to seize control of the governance of much of the Mid-East, vote early for Mr. Obama.  If you’re giggly and giddy happy that new unemployment claims are rising, take your joy to the voting booth and vote for Obama. If you forgive Mr. Obama for not keeping his promise to have our unemployment rate at about 5% by now, kiss his image and vote.  If the theft of campaign signs, voter fraud, and voter intimidation are all a part of your personal political kit, most certainly you should vote for Obama. If you believe that two years of declines in the increase of our GDP is good for our nation, Obama’s for you. If you’re convinced that refusal to acknowledge error is a sterling character trait, Obama’s your man. If you believe that having 3 million fewer folks with jobs today than there were 6 years ago is just dandy, then you must be a Democrat and an Obama voter. If you believe that being arrogant and derisive is an admirable character trait for the President of the United States of America, then Obama is the arrogant and derisive choice for you.

Tomorrow we’ll begin examining some of the scurrilous lies that Mr. Obama has set forth recently. We’ll start with his claim that he had nothing to do with the upcoming sequestration catastrophe.

NO NAME KEY ELECTRIC

The County Commissioners have once again ruled against the super majority of NNK residents in denial of power applications. Putting off what will be inevitable to save political face has a huge hidden cost. Persecuting and now prosecuting county residents continually has a high cost to all local citizens. Which first responders or teachers should we cut to continue to finance the lawyers who are layering this simple exercise in state law with countless roadblocks and delays.

Supposedly these rules were developed to protect an environmentally sensitive island. But now there are twelve more approved building lots with permits ready to go and guess what, none are set up to be solar homes. Nope, they are permitted as generator homes. So now we are going to add twelve more polluting noisy generators to a known local hot spot which already has the worst carbon footprint of any island in the entire Keys. If the solar coalition, composed of only three homes, really cared about NNK they should be welcoming the grid as a true means of fully harvesting the suns energy, and practically eliminating most man made pollution from the island. But it is obvious that is not the true motivation behind their continual obstruction to what is right and legal by state law, not some self serving county ordinance written for only one island.

Us full time residents are prepared to pony up whatever it take to see this issue through to satisfactory completion. We know our true legal costs. Perhaps the county should be truthful to its residents, and tell them how much total resources have been used to fight tax paying residents in a battle which they have no option but losing. Of course this cost can probably be hidden in the sewer debacle that is to come. Pony up another thousand everyone.
