[Ant Trap Review] Goddamned bugs! I bought every ant trap available locally and only one worked: the Hot Shot ant trap. The Raid ant trap just took up space; I never saw one ant enter it. |
[Diving] Three South Florida underwater sites have been named among the best diving spots in the world. And no, we’re not talking about trying to drive in Brickell after a minor rain storm, although that is perilously close to being underwater. We’re talking real diving here. SportsCover Direct, a sports, travel and leisure insurance website, named the top places for divers to explore around the world in 2022, and three South Florida spots made the list. Link |
[3D Printing] I made this 4” deer head at the new Marathon library on their 3d printer. You can make free things if they don’t use too much plastic or take too long to print. This piece (10x6x1mm) took 45 minutes to print and was free. James, the library guy, is only too happy to help you on Mondays from 10-noon. |
[Animal Review] I read West with Giraffes by Linda Rutledge about the only time giraffes were trucked across the nation. It was during the “dustbowl” and Great Depression. I became fascinated with them after reading the book so Sunday we drove to Miami Zoo. What a treasure that place is. It took us almost 5 hours to walk it. At the end were the giraffes! They were the stars of the zoo. Everyone lingered by them. I hadn’t realized how graceful they are. It was like a lot of fluid necks and legs gliding around their enclosure. They were so light on their feet that they didn’t make sounds with their hooves like horses do. The most remarkable thing about them is their gentleness. People could pay $5 to feed them a few leaves of Romaine lettuce from a raised deck. Toddlers held in their mother’s arms would hold a leaf out and the giraffe would gently take it from the baby’s hand. The head was the size of the baby’s. |
[Hearing] My sister was surprised that she could talk to me through her hearing aid, with her phone in another room. Then I figured out that her aid is really a tiny Bluetooth speaker. What a clever innovation! Now she can walk through the market talking to herself like an idiot. I see people doing that all the time & I just thought they had imaginary friends. Unless they are asking their roommate if they need any more onions, why can’t they wait until they get home to have a chat. Or maybe it’s really important, like seeing how crowded the store is, telling their broker to buy more shares of Publix. |
Alcoholism and me: ‘I was an addicted doctor, the worst kind of patient’. My drinking and drug use pushed me over the edge into a complete breakdown. Then a stint in rehab made me question how much we really understand about addiction. Link |

[Pay Your Fair Share] In 2007, Jeff Bezos, then a multibillionaire and now the world’s richest man, did not pay a penny in federal income taxes. He achieved the feat again in 2011. In 2018, Tesla founder Elon Musk, the second-richest person in the world, also paid no federal income taxes. Link |
Have you no decency Mr Haack? I don’t care what your politics are, but there is no call for you to show your ignorance when decency is concerned. Just because you dig sewers for a living doesn’t mean you have to act the part. Climb out of the sewer. See the light. “Class” is not a 4-letter word. ~key33043@hotmail.com |
[Crooks] Truck driver’s GoFundMe account. Following a review of relevant facts and multiple discussions with local law enforcement and city officials, this fundraiser is now in violation of our Terms of Service (Term 8, which prohibits the promotion of violence and harassment) and has been removed from the platform. GoFundMe added that it has “evidence from law enforcement that the previously peaceful demonstration has become an occupation, with police reports of violence and other unlawful activity.” Link |
I’ve had it with helmet mandates! |
[Unsecured Load] What’s worse, the crazy drivers on US 1, or the ones with unsecured loads, ie stepladders, bed frames, steel rigging hanging out just waiting to impale an unsuspecting driver |

[“Social media scammers stole $770 million”] The thing about social media is that everyone believes everything they read. Even if they say they don’t, the seed of doubt is planted. It can’t be helped. Lies spread faster than truth. |
Old: Captain James Cook’s boat, the Endeavour, is somewhere below the waters of Rhode Island. New: The remains of the Endeavour, the lost ship that famed Captain James Cook sailed on his first voyage to Australia, have been found, the Australian National Maritime Museum (ANMM) announced at an event in Sydney on Thursday. [When I was a Kid…] In 20 years when my kids ask about the 2020 toilet paper shortage, I’m telling them we had to drag our butt’s across the lawn. In the snow. Uphill. Both ways. Dodging murder hornets. |
These robot wings use artificial muscle to flap like an insect. A prototype bot from engineers at the University of Bristol flies like an insect and looks like the golden snitch. Video |
[Panacea] What one thing would you eliminate and why, to fix this planet? Is there one thing we should fix to make us all happy? Can anyone actually offer a suggestion without sarcasm. |
