[Parking Lot] Anyone care to walk or bike or drive by the most beautiful Harris School on Southard St, that’s become a $15 parking lot? Guess the city administration is too worried about naked, law abiding people at FantasyFest, instead of looking at their backyard. I surely miss Mrs Albury who would never have allowed this, or our beloved ex city commissioner, Margaret Romero, who is terribly missed, and kept the city in check. God help us.
[Pregnant Plane] Watch NASA’s bizarre and bulbous Super Guppy cargo plane touch down in Alabama. Although currently the last of its kind, the line of chonky boys has long played a vital role in spacecraft logistics. Video
[Friday Joke] When NASA was preparing for the Apollo project, some of the training of the astronauts took place on a Navajo reservation. One day, a Navajo elder and his son were herding sheep and came across the space crew. The old man, who spoke only Navajo, asked a question that his son translated. “What are these guys in the big suits doing?” A member of the crew said they were practicing for their trip to the moon. The old man got all excited and asked if he could send a message to the moon with the astronauts. Recognizing a promotional opportunity, the NASA folks found a tape recorder. After the old man recorded his message, they asked his son to translate it. He refused. The NASA PR people brought the tape to the reservation, where the rest of the tribe listened and laughed, but refused to translate the elder’s message. Finally, the NASA crew called in an official government translator. His translation of the old man’s message was: “Watch out for these guys; they have come to steal your land.”

[COVID Fraudster] He used stolen relief aid to purchase a private island in Florida. Patrick Parker Walsh is one of thousands of thieves who perpetrated the greatest grift in U.S. history — potentially plundering more than $280 billion in federal COVID-19 aid. Link
[Empty Platitude] Troops and veterans don’t like ‘Thank you for your service’ — so what’s better?
I remember one time at the VA, a nurse left the exam room and forgot to give me the “thank you for your service” line. A couple of seconds later the doors opened and I got a quick “thank you for your service”, doors closed. That was a great moment of insincere lip service BS. How about improving services? The VA won’t even help me with chiropractic stuff. You have to go thru all the hoops before they even begin to help out. Thank you for servicing me. I know it isn’t the staff at the VA, they have to follow their SOP. Link

[Cheating Politician] New York City Mayor Eric Adams has been using voice-cloning artificial intelligence to make robocalls to residents in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, Yiddish, and Haitian Creole—languages that Adams does not actually speak. The messages about city events do not include a disclaimer stating that they were generated using Al.
How can I get a debit card that is in no way connected to me (for security reasons). Evey debit card I find is no better than a credit card and connects to me and my private information in one way or another. I want to use it to support sites I use but don’t fully trust and might be lose with security and my information.

[Bird Flu is Back] Bird flu confirmed on Wright County egg farm, with nearly 1 million chickens set to be destroyed. Also, some 26,800 turkeys will be killed on a farm in South Dakota and nearly 17,000 birds will be slaughtered on two farms in Iowa. Link
A new self-propelled, electric RV takes camping into the zero-emissions era. Pebble, a startup founded by former Apple engineer Bingrui Yang, recently introduced the Flow, a sleek camper with its own 45 kWh battery powering electric motors that “push the trailer along while it’s being towed, improving range and efficiency.” The battery plus a set of rooftop solar panels “can provide enough energy to stay off the grid for up to seven days,” and enable the Flow to even serve as a backup home energy source. The $109,000 RV also features a “Magic Hitch,” which autonomously hitches it onto a user’s tow, and “lnstaCamp,” which deploys stabilizers, stairs, and an awning at the push of a button, solving “some of RVing’s biggest hassles.” Video

[Dixieland Jazz] Music to my ears.  These people are great. They’re so hot it’s a wonder they don’t catch fire.  Ha! Video
[Unjust School Taxes] I’m an 84-year-old disabled veteran who has been living in my homestead on BPK for 37 years and have never had any children of school age while living on BPK.  So will someone please explain to me why I’m required to pay for “School State law” and “School Local Board”? Those two items amount to approximately one third of my total tax bill. And I can’t see what benefit I’m getting. What real benefit do I get from these two entities. No BS feel good excuses from the government. So why don’t families with children who don’t own property have to pay these entities? And don’t come up with the local hack, that they pay with their rent. That’s just more governmental BS. So, can anyone come up with a sensible explanation?
[The Decline and Fall] Tuesday, Rick Santorum said, “Thank goodness that most of the states in this country don’t allow you to put everything on the ballot because pure democracies are not the way to run a country.”  Many politicians don’t want Democracy and now they are saying it out loud.

[Vietnam Shame] Veterans Day always reminds me of the millions killed in the Vietnam War. 2,000,000 civilians from both north and south and some 1,100,000 North Vietnamese and Viet Cong fighters died. Between 200,000 and 250,000 South Vietnamese soldiers died. 58,000 of our American sons died without cause. The last time America was truly great was before the Vietnam War. The Vietnamese call it the “American War” They were invaded and didn’t know why. That was the end for us. We invaded a country for no good reason except political, killing 3 million Vietnamese. That was the first war we lost and the end of our good name. Today Vietnam is Communist and proud of it.

[Veterans Day] Richard, (my husband), never really talked a lot about his time in Vietnam, other than he had been shot by a sniper. However, he had a rather grainy, 8 x 10 black and white photo he had taken at a USO show of Ann Margret with Bob Hope in the background that was one of his treasures.
A few years ago, Ann Margaret was doing a book signing at a local bookstore. Richard wanted to see if he could get her to sign the treasured photo so he arrived at the bookstore at 12 o’clock for the 7:30 signing.
When we got there after work, the line went all the way around the bookstore, circled the parking lot, and disappeared behind a parking garage. Before her appearance, bookstore employees announced that she would sign only her book and no memorabilia would be permitted.
Richard was disappointed, but wanted to show her the photo and let her know how much those shows meant to lonely GI’s so far from home. Ann Margaret came out looking as beautiful as ever and, as second in line, it was soon Richard’s turn.
He presented the book for her signature and then took out the photo. When he did, there were many shouts from the employees that she would not sign it. Richard said, “I understand. I just wanted her to see it.”
She took one look at the photo, tears welled up in her eyes and she said, “This is one of my gentlemen from Vietnam and I most certainly will sign his photo. I know what these men did for their country and I always have time for ‘my gentlemen.”
With that, she pulled Richard across the table and planted a big kiss on him. She then made quite a to-do about the bravery of the young men she met over the years, how much she admired them, and how much she appreciated them. There weren’t too many dry eyes among those close enough to hear. She then posed for pictures and acted as if he were the only one there.
That night was a turning point for him. He walked a little straighter and, for the first time in years, was proud to have been a Vet. I’ll never forget Ann Margaret for her graciousness and how much that small act of kindness meant to my husband.
Later at dinner, Richard was very quiet. When I asked if he’d like to talk about it, my big, strong husband broke down in tears. “That’s the first time anyone ever thanked me for my time in the Army,” he said.
I now make it a point to say ‘Thank you’ to every person I come across who served in our Armed Forces. Freedom does not come cheap and I am grateful for all those who have served their country.

Why are people afraid of ghouls? They are afraid they might start talking. Then we’d be certain that there is nothing on the other side of death.
[Friday Joke] A couple was trying to get married in the church. . The couple meet with the priest and discuss when they can get married.
“If you wish to get married in my church, you must go one month without having sex,” says the priest.
One month later the couple returned to the church and talk to the priest. He then asks the couple, “Have you completed the month with sex?”
“No we couldn’t do it,” responded the boyfriend.
“Tell me why,” says the priest.
“Well my girlfriend had a can of corn in her hand, and she accidentally dropped it. She bent over to pick it up and that’s when it happened.”
The priest then tells them, “You’re not welcome in my church.”
“We’re not welcome in the supermarket either,” says the boyfriend
