[Mangiare] Raptors Kill stuff like other birds, snakes, most anything they can eat. Important word: eat. Cats kill anything thing they can because they are cats. That’s what cat’s do. They are killers, they bring gifts home to their owners, don’t they? This is not up for debate. To compare and hawk to a cat is silly & wrong on so many levels. I don’t have a cat in this fight. I do know cats though and they are killers. (Picture: Here’s a little marsh rabbit the cat dropped off.)
(Ed: All the right moves have been done so I should never miss another email — as long as Coconut Telegraph is written in the subject line. [Property Tax and Kids] Miami wants to raise taxes again for schools. I say not one additional penny should be spent on education in the US because no improved results have ever been attributed to pumping money into schools. Kids learn just as well in Africa where students sit on the dirt under a tree and learn. It’s the excellent teacher who makes the difference. We’ve all had one or two in school and they really made a difference. It’s the teachers that we need to cultivate not the schools, their gadgets or athletic fields. Let’s throw our money at teachers. Shitcan the deadwood. Screw the unions and the politics. Our kid’s education should come first. Property owners spend far more on education taxes than all other taxes. Teacher/Student –the rest is just gravy. Our nation’s mentality is still to pour money into education until better results are achieved. It doesn’t work that way. I hope we realize that soon.
[Law For Sale] At Walker’s Island there was a 100’ wooden dock, all ready for the sport fishing boats belonging to the owners of the 8 new mansions nestled between the palm trees and the tropical flowers. The only problem was, no boats could get to the dock!  There was simply not enough water covering the sea grass bed surrounding Walker’s Island and the necessary dredging operation was strictly prohibited by the Monroe County Code.

So, was that the end of it?  Well, not quite.  Beginning in 2010 savvy developers and their lawyers discovered a little-known loophole; a way around Monroe County’s tight environmental regulations. For a $ 5,000 application fee, a developer can write his own version of the law and, after proper lobbying, force the County Commission to vote on whether to reject or adopt his “Comprehensive Plan Text Amendment.”

Several County Commission members, including Commissioner Danny Kolhage and Mayor Sylvia Murphy, have expressed concern over the process and the amount of time expended by County staff on these private legislation projects. Link

[“Cats trapping”] Birds were here first. They disperse seeds and, yes, are natural prey for other members of the natural food chain! God knows the Feds are far from perfect, but they are on track here. Let your cat roam free, I need the bait.

[Sewers] Dear Fish and Wildlife / Key Deer Refuge, Just a short note to express our astonishment that FWS has not put their foot down and required an EA under NEPA (as Federal Funds are involved) for the sewer work being done here. In addition to endangered species in the Key Deer NWR, the potential  impact to the fresh water lens on Big Pine, which  is essential for this ecosystem has not been addressed.  We are your neighbors and support the mission of the refuge.

Please stop this work now. They do not have valid permits as a petition for administrate hearing was filed with FL DEP, although DEP has not yet forwarded it to the Department of Administrative Hearings as they were. required to do. Meanwhile the damage is being done day after day. Action and courage are required now,  please!

[Questions for Friday’s “Little Palm Sewer Connection” poster] You sound like you know the cost the County taxpayers will be paying for central sewer service to Little Palm Island, would you please tell the readers that cost?

You also said that Little Palm was being assessed the equivalent of 91 EDU’s. How is that possible when they have only about 40 rooms? Is someone trying to make Little Palm EDU numbers look larger than they are to justify Little Palm getting central sewers instead of onsite?

[Vandals hit Bayview Park men’s bathroom
] What do vandals have against bathrooms? They are the first place vandals always target. Do the all have potty fetishes?
The homeless issue is tearing apart our community. Should we provide for all? For locals? For mothers and children? For the mentally ill? For those who move here to take advantage of our facilities and good weather?”

Bigotry is tearing apart Key West, which has proven its often-boasted “One Human Family” creed is a farce. There but for the grace of God go every last one of us. I have been there, done that; I know homelessness all too well. I know being called a bum, a vagrant, a dirt bag all too well. I know knowing going somewhere else to homeless would be just as bad, or even worse when winter came.

How much are we really spending on the homeless? Consider the cost of extra policemen, ambulance and medical care, and jail facilities and staff. Let’s get down to the hard facts and initiate a clear policy to take care of our local people with problems, and encourage the others to move on elsewhere.

Your mayor and city commissioners, and their police, and many city residents, care nothing for the costs. They want homeless people to not be here. They already are “encouraging” homeless people to move on elsewhere, even as new homeless keep arriving. Jesus told his disciples in the Gospels, the poor would always be among them. He also told his disciples, as they did to the poor, they did also to him.

[Drones] When will other countries start attacking us with drones?
[“Movies–Bogie not good looking”
] You are right, except he had Lauren Bacall as his bride and she was definitely worth the look. They were great old movies. I’m so glad we have TCM and others so we can see the greatest movies of all times again. Don’t forget Bogart’s Key Largo – a true classic!
pigs in a blanket18
[Pigs] Are there any farmers reading this that might know where the expression “They get along like pigs in a blanket” comes from? I can’t imagine pigs bundling or needing warmth with all that fat.

[Obsolete] The phrase we often use when admitting failure and having to starting again is “Back to the drawing board!”. Youth today probably don’t know what a drawing board is. Since Computer Aided Design (CAD) was introduced, draftsman and architects no longer have need for the good old adjustable table. Probably the only place you’ll see one is in a fashion designer’s studio or garage sale.
[AA, Etc] Don’t defeat your daemons, you can’t. Confront your daemons every day! Always look over your shoulder and you’ll make it.
stay tuned18[Outage] I couldn’t get to the CT on Friday – all sorts of error messages.  Thought I’d try ‘Deer Ed sleeps Saturday’ and today it works again. (Ed: Sorry for the outage. We switched our servers, hosts, security, and email. All in the name of progress.

The new server’s tech support did give me incorrect numbers needed to connect–twice! I find that’s common with tech support. If you don’t like the answer, hang up, call again, and speak to a different person. That always works.)

[Middle Ages Redux] Muslims are at it again and have condemned a Christian Sudanese woman, on the eve of her wedding, to adultery. The Islamic court sentenced her to 100 lashes and then death. This insanity is made possible, they say, because her father is a Muslim (and Muslim woman have no rights) so that makes her a Muslim too. She has only one option and that is to renounce her faith.

They found a dinosaur’s bones that indicate it was the largest one in the world. Standing at one hundred feet tall it must have been a nightmare to feed. And think about the size of the poop too!
[Citizen of the Day Says] When I got here, I never knew there was such a beautiful place.
[Maximum Wage] The best thing about our US Government is that it has a lot of well paid workers, with our tax money, I might add, who go out and redistribute that wealth among many local businesses and make those owners rich so they can have time to go out and complain about too many overpaid Government employees.  And the beat goes on.

[Coyote Hunting  or Deer Refuge Cat Trappers] The Sierra Club and the U. S. Forest Service were presenting an alternative to the Wyoming ranchers for controlling the coyote population.  It seems that after years of the ranchers using the tried and true method of shooting or trapping the predators, the Sierra Club had a “more humane” solution to this issue. What they were proposing was for the animals to be captured alive. The males would then be castrated and let loose again. This was proposed by the Sierra Club and by the U. S. Forest Service.

All of the ranchers thought about this amazing idea for a couple of minutes. Finally an old fellow wearing a big cowboy hat in the back of the conference room stood up, tipped his hat back and said, “Son, I don’t think you understand our problem here. These coyotes ain’t fuckin’ our sheep; they’re eatin’ ’em!”

The meeting never really got back to order.

dice seven
At the craps table, can someone actually play better or is the roll purely chance? I can’t imagine how blowing into a fist holding dice can make them roll seven–or any particular numbers.
[Here Come de Judge] President Obama has had 300 of his judicial nominees confirmed so far.
[Classifieds Work] You can remove the “looking for hammock stand.” We received a successful response thanks to you!
[Honor] I think if most American’s get a duplicate order in the mail they’ll keep it. We have a higher opinion of ourselves as a nation than reality suggests. We used to have honor, but greed will contribute to our downfall, if not causing it outright.
Why do the supermarket tomatoes come with those tough green, hard to pull off, vines attached to them?  Is this some of the genetically modified food stuff “they” are coming out with?  They are all uniform in size, finish, color, toughness,  and sadly lacking in old time real  tomato flavor.

[Subtitles] Subtitles are getting better. I see the next step in their evolution as placing subtitles on the screen under each speaker. That would make it easier to follow the conversation. Another way they could improve would be to have different fonts for each character.
At one time this site was good for what was going on in the community. Has anyone eaten at the new Kiki restaurant? How about the new housing on Little Torch Key. How much and how big are the homes? What realtor co has them?
[Sewers] Here is a brief review of what’s been happening while one state agency oversaw another state agency. So much has happened that even a brief review with minimal explanation is still lengthy, and for that, my apologies.
State agency Florida Keys Aqueduct Authority (FKAA) intentionally misled the populace within the Cudjoe Regional Wastewater System (CRWS) islands of Lower Sugarloaf through Big Pine Key into thinking they would be served by a conventional gravity sewer system unless they were in very sparsely populated areas. This was in violation of requirements of the SRF funding of the CRWS project.
FKAA then awarded contracts that sole-sourced a brand of grinder pump only available from one dealer in clear violation of public purchasing laws.
academy award
[Award Kiss of Death] When I see a famous movie star in a new TV series I often think they must have won an Academy Award. that’s because winning the award is the kiss of death to an actor. Usually the award is for the one role of their life, and they’ll never get another like it. It’s all downhill from there. Than they get old too.

It always amazes me that the Democrats ridicule the Republicans with insults, name calling, false facts, etc., but the Republicans do not waste their time doing the same because the they know the Democrats are already past history in 2016!
FOX News had the least coverage of Obama’s climate change speech last week watchers claim. Oh, that’s right, it’s political not scientific.
from the right
It seems the Obama drama will never come to an end. The Democrat style of governance, exemplified by Team Obama burdens us with an ongoing series of scandals that are an ongoing assault against good and decent governance.

An early indicator was Team Obama’s choice for Sec. Treas. Tim Geithner, an admitted tax cheat. Geithner was at the helm when Wall Street Bankers who had been bailed out with our tax money, received handsome bonuses. Nine of the financial firms that were among the largest recipients of federal bailout money paid about 5,000 of their traders and bankers bonuses of more than $1 million apiece.

no trust18Then there was the GM bailout wherein thousands of suppliers for GM got shafted, never got paid for goods and services that they had provided for GM.  But, non-union employees lost jobs, and unions were made whole. Thousands of non-union workers lost their jobs.

Then there were the tens of billions of stimulus money wasted on green projects that soon went bankrupt. Many of the recipients of Team Obama’s largess with your money, were Obama supporters and donors.

President Obama took office vowing to banish “special interests” from his administration, yet nearly 200 of his biggest donors have landed plum government jobs and advisory posts, won federal contracts worth millions of dollars for their business interests. Democrat governance at play.

Then there is Fast and Furious. That illegal operation funded and operated by ATF and Justice, cost American and Mexican lives. It remains unresolved, there has been no justice, no shake up in ATF or the Justice Department.

The Keystone Pipeline issue still remains unresolved. It’s been 4 ½ years since Hillary Clinton, then Secretary of State let it be known that she was in support of the pipeline. Even Obama’s beloved unions want it approved and are furious that he refuses to give the go ahead. Team Obama’s vacillation has deprived us of thousands of jobs and billions in revenue.

Now we still endure the machinations of the IRS being used as a political weapon by the Democrats. Now we know that at least one Democrat Senator demanded that the IRS focus its power on a tiny set of PACS, 9 of which were Tea Party related and one of which purported to be liberal. We now know that at least one very high ranking IRS official has refused to testify on the issue and that Team Obama is fighting tooth and claw to avoid having to give up emails and other documents concerning the issue. Now we are learning that the assault on the Tea Party pacs nearly certainly was given the go ahead by the White House. What happened to Obama’s promise to be the “most transparent and open” administration in history?

Then we have the Benghazi tragedy. Once again Team Obama’s promise of transparency was broken. They lied to us about the circumstances of the tragedy. The tragedy was most certainly the result of intentionally lax security at the Consulate and the CIA annex. There was insufficient security so that Team Obama could present a benign and smiley face to the Libyans. And so that his claim that terrorism was on the run would ring true. It’s clear, crystal clear, that Team Obama panicked and chose to lie inasmuch as they had been claiming that they were winning the war on terrorism. They bragged that they had killed Obama, but they refused to tell us that AQI and its allied organizations were running rampant.

No one has been held responsible for the Benghazi tragedy. It is incredible, but some on the left actually ridicule, laugh at, the investigation, citing it as being “ancient history.” Ask the families of the dead and grievously wounded Americans if it is ancient history. Sec. State Clinton infamously in an angry outburst at being questioned about the murders, blurted: “What difference does it make?” Perhaps Ms. Clinton would pose that question to the families of the victims.

Now we hear of the kidnapping of about 300 school girls by Muslim terrorists. The same group, Boko Haram,  that then Secretary of State Clinton had refused to label as a terrorist group even though that group was responsible for multiple acts of terrorism and hundreds of murders. Her refusal compounded the difficulty of tracking, gathering intell on the group, and acting against Boko Haram,

And now, we are learning that Team Obama’s VA is so horribly mismanaged that vets are literally dying for lack of care. We are hearing reports that patient records are being purposefully falsified so as to cover up the mismanagement. At the same time we learn that the VA has spent about $500 million for conference tables and office furniture. No one has been held responsible.

More and more independent voter are becoming sick of the mishandling of the trust that they placed in Obama.  Pew Research tells us that independent voters are 16 points more likely to say they plan to vote Republican (49%) than Democratic (33%) in the midterm. They will determine the outcome of the mid term elections.
