In just six hours Hannibal killed 70,000 Roman soldiers in an area twice the size of New York’s Central Park completely annihilating the army. That was the most ever peopled killed in one day in all of history. Hannibal’s military tactics are still taught at military colleges around the world.

[Everyone buys a gun to kill”] Yesterday’s poster insulted the person who wrote that “guns were for killing” as an “ignorant idiot” then goes on to describe how he’d kill anyone who messed with him. I rest my case. I suggest, Sir, that you are the ignorant idiot in this debate.

The Grand Canyon is one and one half miles above sea level. Big Pine Key is just about two feet above sea level.

[Financial Aid] I have two suggestions on where to go for help in the Keys regarding financial aid. Schmidt Foundation.  Go to the office in front of Office Depot and ask for an application.  You might have to appear before their board but they will help.  Keep your bills because their procedure is to pay the creditors directly.

FKEC.  Go to the drive-up window and ask for an application.  No personal appearance requested.

I hope it helps you. It sure helped us.

[Graveyard] A heartwarming story. Unfortunately, it also shows the ineptitude of one congressman.   We seem to forget all those buried in other countries. I believe anyone’s trip to another country should include a visit to the American Cemetery. Particularly in France. The one in Normandy is one you will never forget. Please take the time and watch this video; you will be glad you did! Link

[Hurricane Aid] With the Fed dealing out billions of dollars of everybody’s tax money to help those in need in the North East from Sandy, where are the insurance companies when they need to pay out? Are they the same companies that service the Keys for our disasters?

[Sammy Hagar – I Can’t Drive 55] That was definitely the best thing to come from that foolish law.

[“If guns awe you or frighten you, you have no place in the gun control debate”] What an irrational statement. Just because you don’t want to kill or are in denial that guns are for killing, doesn’t mean I’m not qualified to be afraid of you and yours, or the actual crazies out there just waiting to flip out.

The absolute best way to get revenge is to sit back and watch while people destroy their own lives just by being themselves.

[“Everyone buys a gun to kill”] I got a kick out of the guy yesterday who was criticizing the guy who posted that headline as untrue. And then he proceeded to tell us how he’d kill anyone who messed with him.

armed3[“We need more gun control and a ban on assault rifles and extended magazines”] It doesn’t work. Chicago is in IL. You can’t have guns in IL. 500 people were murdered in Chicago last year, 9 shot so far this year. When you take guns away (gun control) or reduce the capacity of magazines for legal gun owners, it gives the criminals an advantage. This has been proven over centuries of gun control. We need to face reality as proven in Chicago where Obama is from. Banning guns did nothing to help in his state and it won’t do anything for the state of his nation state. We need to put bad guys and girls in jail and leave them there and we need gun owners to be responsible gun owners.  Lock your guns and ammo in a safe — an approved gun safe — when not in use.

an_runnersThis is a brief reminder that the Florida Keys will see races along US1 on first two Saturdays in January.

On January 5th we will see the Ragnar Relay Race. This 199 mile running event starts in Miami on Friday, January 4th, and finishes in Key West on the 5th. Ragnar has 50 teams with 12 runners, 2 transport vans and three volunteers each. Organizers expect the bulk of the runners to reach the SevenMileBridge at daybreak Saturday. They predict an average 11 MPH pace so we should see runners and support vans from late morning through the afternoon of Saturday the 5th.

On January 12th we will see the cycling portion of the Bone Island Triathlon (Swim, Cycle, Run). With a cap of 1,000 competitors, the 112 mile(Full Tri) and 56 mile(Half Tri) bike course leaves Higgs Beach, North along Atlantic Blvd and then North along South Roosevelt Blvd to US-1 where they will travel North along US-1 to Middle Torch Key, travelling out Middle Torch Rd about two tenths of a mile where they will make a U-turn to head South again. During the return trip, Full Tri Athletes will complete two laps on Blimp Rd, one lap out to the Bat Tower, then travel South to Boca Chica using the underpass to turn North again and complete a second similar lap. We Expect to see cyclists throughout the daylight hours on both sides of US1, but do not expect support vans.  Please remember, these cyclists are vehicles and they will proceed expecting every right that a vehicle in traffic is given. Patience and courtesy will be the theme of the day. We expect to see Sheriffs deputies helping control traffic at major intersections. Bulletin Board

[Solar Stik Power] Email them and tell them exactly what you want to run. Be precise. Also look at http://www.solarstik.com/stikopedia/stiktm-u That’s your education on volts, amps, watts and inverters. You will need an inverter to create the start up power for a fridge.

I’m not recommending nothing. If I did that and it did not work, I’d be crucified CocoTele style and I’m not having that. Solar Stik has worked for me and it will for you.

[“Boat Fuel Gauge”] They make fuel gauges with longer and shorter float arms. If your float arm is straight and does not reach near the bottom of your tank you will have to get a longer sender. If it is bent you can try to straighten it to make it longer so it reaches further before it leaves the surface of the fuel. One other possibility is that the sender is mounted forward on the tand(?) and that the tank slants back to the rear of the boat. If that is the issue the cost associated with correcting the problem would be prohibitive. Get used to it. When In doubt take it to Sea Center. They can take care of it.

[“Ban on assault rifles and extended magazines”]  I have yet to hear how that would help anything.  It still only takes one bullet to stop a person carrying enough ammo to start a massacre, so make sure there’s a high likelihood that there will be one good person in the vicinity qualified to apply the cure.

[“Fuel Gage”] Gasoline weighs 8 lbs per gallon. 8×25 equals 200 lbs (not 1500). The fuel gage can be removed and the arm to the float can be bent a little to change the reading.

[Boat Fuel Gauge] 1,500 pounds for 25 gal. of fuel? You need to buy lighter gas! (6.25 pounds a gallon X 25 gallons = 156.25 pounds.)

You cannot feel shame for that which you cannot remember.  I hope everyone had a great new year’s eve

[A Brief History] Thomas Jefferson was a very remarkable man who started learning very early in life and never stopped.
At 5, began studying under his cousin’s tutor.
At 9, studied Latin, Greek and French.
At 14, studied classical literature and additional languages.
At 16, entered the College of William and Mary.
At 19, studied Law for 5 years starting under George Wythe.
At 23, started his own law practice.
At 25, was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.
At 31, wrote the widely circulated “Summary View of the Rights of British America and retired from his law practice.
At 32, was a Delegate to the Second Continental Congress.
At 33, wrote the Declaration of Independence.
At 33, took three years to revise Virginia’s legal code and wrote a Public Education bill and a statute for Religious Freedom.
At 36, was elected the second Governor of Virginia succeeding Patrick Henry.
At 40, served in Congress for two years.
At 41, was the American minister to France and negotiated commercial treaties with European nations along with Ben Franklin and John Adams.
At 46, served as the first Secretary of State under George Washington.
At 53, served as Vice President and was elected president of the American Philosophical Society.
At 55, drafted the Kentucky Resolutions and became the active head of Republican Party.
At 57, was elected the third president of the United States.
At 60, obtained the Louisiana Purchase doubling the nation’s size.
At 61, was elected to a second term as President.
At 65, retired to Monticello.
At 80, helped President Monroe shape the Monroe Doctrine.
At 81, almost single-handedly created the University of Virginia and served as its first president.
At 83, died on the 50th anniversary of the Signing of the Declaration of Independence along with John Adams

Thomas Jefferson knew because he himself studied the previous failed attempts at government. He understood actual history, the nature of God, his laws and the nature of man. That happens to be way more than what most understand today. Jefferson really knew his stuff.

[Vibrator] The gal’s (I assume it was a gal) take on the vibrator was cool! It reminded me of this classic Sam Kinison routine at Rodney Dangerfield’s. Explicit to some. Link

[“Is it illegal for a restaurant/seafood retail market to sell shrimp and say when asked, that they are Key West Pinks”] One would think so. It’s definitely illegal to substitute one fish for another. For example, they’re not supposed to serve tilapia to you when they advertise snapper. That said, it goes on all the time. Years ago the State tested restaurants across Florida and found places ripping people off. There was over 600,000 pounds of fish imported to the Keys last year.

That’s fish served in restaurants: dolphin (mahi), grouper, etc. Thanks to NOAA and it’s limits placed upon local fishermen, fisherman in South America are making big bucks sending their catch to the Keys and so are the importers. I’d bet the shrimp served at happy hour aren’t Keys Pinks.

[“Missing Photo by Janet Wood”] The photographer named in that post used to, and maybe still does, work for the KW magazine Conch Color. So maybe the photo’s in there. And that same person was and maybe still is, closely affiliated with the newly elected state attorney. So imagination is definitely called for.

[SWAT Team Response Time] Has anyone ever tried to see how long it would take to get to a certain location with a whole team? This would of course be a “No Notice” or are we talking Texas Ranger? 1 Ranger + 1 long gun +1 shooter = riot put down.

an_windmill3A one-year extension to a wind power credit made it into the final “fiscal cliff” bargain. Its inclusion marks a defeat for conservative groups and lawmakers who argued an alteration to the credit amounted to an expansion of the program.

America’s 75,000 workers in wind energy are celebrating over the continuation of policies that are expected to save up to 37,000 jobs and create far more over time and to revive business at nearly 500 manufacturing facilities across the country as well. The extension of the wind energy credits for community and offshore projects will allow continued growth of the energy source that installed the most new electrical generating capacity in America last year with factories or wind farms in all 50 states.

Wind set a new record in 2012 by installing 44 percent of all new electrical generating capacity in America thereby leading the electric sector, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration. This compared with 30 percent for natural gas and lesser amounts for coal and other sources.

[MRSA Infection?] I appreciate the dialogue on MRSA.It’s terrible. Does anyone have any experience with UV-C light in connection with MRSA?  I’ve read that UV-C light is highly effective at penetrating thin-walled germs like viruses and bacteria. The light alters the genetic structure of the germ and they die. A friend says they are sold at our Walgreens.

[Scams] 1.many “videos” posted on Facebook aren’t videos at all. They’ll ask you to update your video player before you can watch and, when you do, you’ll be downloading a virus and sharing the scam with your friends. Type the video’s title into a Google search. It should pop up with a link to it on YouTube. If YouTube or other results don’t pop up, it’s probably a scam. You can also ask your friend if they intentionally posted it. They might not even know it’s there!

2.Another common scam offers to change your Facebook layout. Some, like the dangerous Facebook Black scam, offer to change your site’s colors. Others just say that can give you back Facebook’s “old” layout. There is no official way to change your Facebook layout. Social Fixer can change the way you see it, but nothing will change the way other people see it.

3.Facebook has made it clear several times: There is no way for any app to show you who has visited your profile. Any download that says differently is either a prank or a virus.

President’s Day is when President Obama steps out of the White House, and if he sees his shadow we have one more year of unemployment.

It looks like the GOP wackadoodles are going to handle Hillary’s blood clot the same way they went after Obama’s birth certificate.  They won’t be satisfied until Hannity chops her head open and looks in, live on Fox News.
