[“Middle East explained“] That was the most concise, accurate, and on target post I can remember on the CT. Kudos to the poster as I had a great laugh at the total absurdity of Middle East … everything. Never has a totally screwed up mess, in a totally screwed up place, that cannot ever be resolved, by anyone, ever, been summarized better
table-georgeDear Monroe County Voter: In the 15 years that I have been your Monroe County Commissioner, I have always placed a premium on preparation and active participation in issued based meetings; that is in sharp contrast to my opponent.Over the previous 4 years while updating our most important document, The Comprehensive Plan, which will guide Monroe County policy for the next 20 years, my opponent has chosen not to participate in this public process; he has not provided any input at these meetings.Qualifications for County Commissioner must include attending BOCC meetings, giving input to the Commission, participating in the budget process, attending FEMA flood map update meetings, and especially participation in the public process of updating the County Comprehensive Plan. I am the only candidate who has done any of these things, and I’ve done them all.Life has taught me that it takes preparation, persistence and determination to solve problems and resolve differences through transparent and relationship building discourse at the local, state and federal level. Because of those relationships I have fostered, I truly believe these last years have been my most productive.

If you share my beliefs that Experience, Relationships and Participation Matter in representing the interest of all Monroe County residents, then please vote George Neugent for County Commissioner on August 26th.

My most sincere and enthusiastic regards,
George Neugent
Monroe County Commissioner

I was shocked at the cost of rentals and homes for sale in Kew West. Key West real estate was more expensive than Palm Beach and Jupiter for comparable properties. I couldn’t afford to stay in Key West for a night as that would cost more than my entire cruise when I get the Carnival 4 day cruises for $250 or $300 total–and they usually stop at Key West from 8 am to 3 pm and departing at 4 pm for Cozumel, Mexico.

I would like to say that I have noticed a great deal of improvements in the Winn-Dixie in Big Pine Key over the past year. I was talking to the manager the other day, and he said, while he already employees over 100 of our friends and neighbors, he could use at least 40 more people to staff his store. He said he is proud of the employees he has in his store, but the bottom line is, he just cannot hire enough to keep up with the demand. He was very helpful and willing to listen to any concerns I had about his store. He even said he was hoping to hear any day that the county would allow some re-landscaping of the parking lot..

[Rays] Cell phones, TV, radio, radar, and a thousand other sources that generate rays of nasty stuff, makes me wonder if all this is causing most of our head and body problems? If they can cook a pigeon with radar, what are those rays doing to humanity? Funny thing is, all we needed was Ma Bell and a bunch of wires
I doubt Key West’s homeless would use a campground a few miles up US 1 from Key West. No grocery stores, liquor or cigarette outlets, nothing to do; homeless who are working in Key West would not be able to get to work and would lose their jobs.

[Volunteers Wanted] Planning for the Annual Big Pine Key Haunted House started Monday night at the Big Pine Community Park. But as always, the organizers are actively seeking volunteers for building, decorating, hosting or actively participating in this annual endeavor to scare the boojums out of as many people as is humanly possible.

[God] By whatever name you, or anyone, wishes to call the Source Of All, here is only one God, on which no religion on this world has a lock. In fact, the religions on this world understand God about as well as a zebra understands the little star, as stars go, upon which the planet depends for its very survival. Saying it another way, God is unfathomable to human beings, and even angels only know what of God what God gives them to know.

I am glad to have Winn Dixie on Big Pine. We also patronize Murray’s too, but you need both. The people complaining never lived here before there was a major grocery store. It was a real pain to have to drive to Marathon or Key West for staples that your local stores did not carry. And I have never bought any spoiled foods in Winn Dixie. Be thankful for what you have.

arugula-b26I bought arugula lettuce at Winn Dixie for a special recipe I was trying. The arugula was old, but I bought it anyway. I didn’t even know what it was, but I was just happy I could get it here.I remembered when I’d have go to Dion’s hoping they had a potato or lemon I needed that wasn’t too rotten. And if they did, I was so happy. We’ve come a long way since those years and I never complain about the small stuff. I’m just happy I can get exotic produce right down the road instead of driving to Marathon or KW. In those days dining out meant Oscar Meyers hot dogs, a can of tuna and a six-pack from Dion’s. I used to call it surf ‘n turf.Imagine that, arugula lettuce from just down the road! My how far we’ve come!

[Macs are PCs] Can we stop pretending they aren’t? There was a time when Macs and PCs were very different, but they’re now basically the same. Open a MacBook up and you’ll find the same hardware you’d find in a PC Ultrabook. The time for dividing computers into “PCs” and “Macs” is over. With more and more people are using mobile devices like smartphones and tablets, Mac OS X is just another PC operating system alongside Windows and Linux. Link
golf26[“Presidents and Golf“] According to a Golf Digest article from 2008, Eisenhower played golf more than 800 times during his presidency. President Eisenhower was a long time ago, and I do remember the Eisenhower doll. Wind it up and watch it play golf. He lost much public support for his choice to play golf.
Marie-Antoinette supposedly sniffed, “Let them eat cake.” With that callous remark, the queen became a hated symbol of the decadent monarchy and fueled the revolution that would cause her to (literally) lose her head several years later. That was a long time ago. My point, President Obama’s choice to play golf a few minutes after a American was beheaded he lost the respect & support of millions.

[“Cornhole game, lamest excuse for fun”] Not if you are the one being Cornholed!
[Homeless] The City of Key West cannot charge homeless people to stay at KOTS, because KOTS was built to satisfy the Pottiner case, which said Miami could not jail homeless people for sleeping outside at night, if Miami did not provide them a place to sleep inside – a shelter. A free shelter. If Key West starts charging homeless people to stay at KOTS, they can decline and sleep outside at night.

[“Controlling Muslims with pork”] Do you people really think the pork gig will stop any raghead from cutting your head off? Do you think those insane religious insects will stop attacking if they see a sign saying, This is a Pig Farm? Do you believe they will not cull all non-Muslims and stink up this planet with camel shiite? If you do, you better take that black pill now because you will be useless defending this rock. Wake up people, the French are, and Holland is, as are some other countries that have had enough of this religious crap of all types.

FTR,
everyone who is born holds dual citizenship, in the kingdom of the well and in the kingdom of the sick. Although we all prefer to use only the good passport, sooner or later each of us is obliged, at least for a spell, to identify ourselves as citizens of that other place. You, your wife, her doctors and staff are in my prayers. Have a blessed day.   ~Joe/ Coconuts

an_vacation
Here is a reality check for Republicans who keep complaining over President Obama’s vacations. President Obama has had fewer vacation days in the last six years than Congress will have in 2014.According to CBS News correspondent Mark Knoller, President Obama has spent 129 days of presidency on vacation. The Republican led House of Representatives was scheduled to be in session for only 124 days in all of 2014. This means that John Boehner and company will spend fewer days at work this year than President Obama has spent on vacation in his entire presidency. The numbers are actually worse when one considers that the House is only scheduled to work for 97 days between January and Election day in November. Members of the Senate, like Ted Cruz, have had nearly as many days off this year as the president has had since taking office.

cornhole26
I am a little confused about this cornhole game. Isn’t that what the guy with green teeth was doing to Ned Beatty in Deliverance? And this is going on in the Keys? “Squeal boy, squeal.”
I don’t see how Key West is affordable at all for a working class person or people making $30,000 or $40,000 a year unless someone has family who has owned their home since the 1960′s or before. My mother and sister flew down to key West in 1976 and complained how expensive it was then. Most sales/waitress jobs here pay $20,000 a year, $10.00 an hour). Many young people live with their parents, go to college and/or work while finishing college or saving to get their own apt. However, it costs an average of $1000 to $1500 to rent a one or two bedroom and you have to pay 2-3 months up front (one month in advance, one month security and one month current rent). So it’s smarter to live at home, buy a car and finish college or 2 years of college at least. There are few jobs which don’t require a high school degree and they are held by the immigrants, so college kids have trouble finding jobs to work their way through college.

[Muslims] Over the weekend I watched three movies with Muslims in them. They were dramas and not about war. I got a glimpse of Arab life and it all revolved around violence and hate. They fought with their families, neighbors, and anyone else that wasn’t them. Machismo is a mainstay in their shitty lives. Good luck trying to change them.

noise26[“Vacation rentals”] Do you really want your next door neighbor to short term rent their home? The renters come in late at night and for the next few days make you feel like you are staying at a cheap motel. The same thing keeps happening week after week. The renters are just here for vacation, they don’t know you or want to know you. If I knew I would have short term renters for neighbors, I would not purchase a home next to or near them, it just brings down the whole neighborhood. I talked to a lady that has a neighbor doing this illegally next door. She said she doesn’t want to turn the neighbor in, but that it really sucks to have new people coming and going every few days. She said that when she bought her home that she wanted to live in a stable neighborhood. I really feel sorry for her.
If they put a homeless campground north of Key West somewhere, maybe along Boca Chica Rd, can you imagine how dangerous it would be with all those loser alcoholic, homeless, drug addicts running around in their stupors looking for more of everything? I shudder to think of the fights and killings that will come out of such a misguided “solution” to the homeless problem. I don;t worry though as it will never happen.

Election doublespeak. Yesterday, a commissioner up for election criticized his opponent for not attending commission meetings. The commissioner is paid to do his job, but his opponent is not. Is his opponent supposed to take off work to attend all day commission meetings? That is a contemptible proposition.

Why is gas so much more expensive on Big Pine Key?  I got gas in Marathon on Aug. 25 at the Tom Thumb by Publix for $3.47/gallon. It’s $3.73 at the Tom Thumb on Big Pine.  The savings on gas made my trip to Publix to do my weekly shopping worthwhile.

is not a lame game. It’s the only time you can slide your bag into your buddy’s cornhole in public. And it’s not an excuse to have fun. It’s an excuse for drinking beer on Thursday nights
[Melt the bastards!] The last time a US territory was attacked by a foreign race and government attempting to exterminate our own race was December 7, 1941. Flash forward a bit. After some political discussion and heartfelt thoughts, we melted the aggressors. Period, melted them! 2 cities full of people. Soldiers, men, women, children. melted. And the outcome was the instant end of a world war that would have killed, who knows how many more in time. Could it be it’s time to consider another melt? It may be a terrible action today in the estimated counting of the melted. But in the counting of the living who did not get killed by the race that got melted – it’s a no-brainer. The US either has to absolutely bail out of the Middle East, or absolutely melt it. Neither is good. Only one option keeps the US intact. Don’t you just hate it?

[“Stores Expanding”] It is sad to see all the empty store fronts in Winn Dixie Plaza. I don’t know if its from high rents or what, but BPK will lose its claim to the shopping district of the lower keys if we lose very many more businesses. The cool billboards with the deer proclaiming over 25 businesses won’t be accurate much longer.

[“Not bogus Middle East revisionism”] The Hebrew Empire died 2513 years ago. It survived for 800 years, then as two nations for half that period and had two civil wars. So basically it only survived 400 years. The region has been controlled by numerous different peoples, including Ancient Egyptians, Canaanites, Israelites, Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians, Ancient Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, the Sunni Arab Caliphates, the Shia Fatimid Caliphate, Crusaders, Ayyubids, Mameluks, Ottomans, the British and modern Israelis and Palestinians. If we want to go with “who was first” argument and who held it the longest, then that title goes to the Egyptians. Link

house party26
[“Short term rental”]
One of the many problems they cause is that when they get here, usually late in the day, they start partying. Usually it’s just that one night. If they get more vacationers coming down on another day they’ll party that night too. No matter how often you tell them to tie down their garbage cans, they don’t and the critters spread it all over your yard. They say their sorry, they didn’t know. Same with their cars and boat trailers in front of your house. They say their sorry, want a beer?
[Muslims] We spend a lot of thought on how we can get Muslims into the 21 century and to stop them warring against us. Keep on thinking because nothing is going to change, unless there really is a god and he shows up and tells them to chill. Even at that, I don’t believe all of them will stop their killing in the name of Allah. If you look at the warring factions closely you’ll see that they even hate each other and want to kill each other or anyone not of their sect or faction of their latest jihad. They are steeped in hate and revenge. I think it comes from too much sand on the brain.

A POSTER WROTE: “Can FTR please quote Holder and the President when they “made it obvious” they wanted to “pillory and convict” officer Wilson “no matter what the facts”? I must have missed it”FTR’S RESPONSE: Yep, sure can! Holder has a lifelong, almost Sharpton-like, obsession with race. After being in office only 3 weeks, he declared America a “nation of cowards” for refusing to discuss race more.Arriving in St. Louis, he declared, “I am the attorney general of the United States. But I am also a black man.” It cannot be denied that it is fundamentally wrong that the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the United States, who is heading up the federal investigation of the shooting of a black man by a white cop, to declare his racial solidarity with the decedent. Holders race, Officer Williams race, and Brown’s race should play no role whatsoever in the investigation of the circumstances of Brown’s death. To permit race to be a factor is unconscionable. The only issue in play should be is the shooting of Brown justifiable or excusable homicide, or is it some level of unlawful homicide.

Just for the record, imagine the national meltdown that would have occurred if a white attorney general had said: “I am the attorney general of the United States. But I am also a white man.” It would be taken as proof positive that the AG was a bigot.

body outline murderIf Obama and Holder were not biased, then they certainly would be conducting a federal investigation into the shooting death of a white man by a black police officer in Salt Lake City at nearly the same time as the Brown incident. No such investigation exists. In that episode, the white decedent was a youth, was unarmed, and, unlike the Brown case, there is no evidence or suggestion that he attacked the black officer.

Then of course we have to consider the fact that Obama sent 3 White House Representatives to attend the memorial service for Brown. No White House representatives were in attendance at the memorial service for James Foley who was beheaded by ISIS. Hells Bells, no White House reps even attended the funeral of Margaret Thatcher.

Please recall that Brown was shown to be a thug who committed a felonious strong armed robbery just before he was shot. Please also remember that Brown literally broke Officer Williams face.

At a presser after the shooting, Obama said: “While I understand the passions and the anger that arise over the death of Michael Brown…” That statement clearly shows that Obama has made a personal decision that Wilson acted improperly and that race was a motivating factor in Browns death. Then he said: “So, to a community in Ferguson that is rightly hurting and looking for answers, let me call once again for us to seek some understanding rather than simply holler at each other.”

Certainly we all remember when Obama lamented the “stupidity” of the white police officer who arrested a black Harvard professor. Obama had to walk those words back.

Who can forget Obama’s comment that Travon Martin looked like he might have been President Obama’s son, should he have had one, that was a wholly inappropriate remark and prejudicial as hell. Perhaps you will recall that Holder instituted a federal investigation into that death. The investigation quietly died.

To deny that Holder and Obama are biased in this investigation and nearly certainly will take some sort of action against Officer Williams is foolishness.

more guns less crimeATTENTION GUN HATERS: Since Illinois started granting concealed carry permits this year, the number of robberies that have led to arrests in Chicago has declined 20 percent from last year, according to police department statistics. Reports of burglary and motor vehicle theft are down 20 percent and 26 percent, respectively. In the first quarter, the city’s homicide rate was at a 56-year low.

Last month a bad guy was robbing a store, he roughed up customers and pistol whipped one of them. But then an 86-year-old Illinois man with a concealed carry permit fired his weapon at the armed robbery suspect, stopping the man in his tracks and allowing the police to make an arrest. The cops called him a model citizen. Link
