fight punch when down UFC[Fight! Fight!] City Commissioner Mark Rossi had a fight when a tourist tried to swipe the chair already claimed by Rossi’s wife, the psychiatrist Dr. Teri Beers Rossi (Rossi actually owned the chair). The Friday night fight was at the Tree Bar at the entrance to the entertainment complex owned by Rossi, a familiar sight at the Duval Street bar during the weekends. Rossi said a white male attempted to take his wife’s stool.

Three police officers were nearby on event security detail for the power boat races when they heard someone shout, “Fight!” Outside Rick’s was a large crowd surrounding three men shoving one another and screaming in one another’s’ faces. The other two were N.J tourist Devin Markowitz, 47 and local, Greg Sullivan, 56, the Florida Keys manager of Waste Management. Markowitz is 6-foot-2-inches and 236 pounds, and Rossi, who’s pretty big too, separately told officers the other one started the shoving. It took a Taser stun gun placed on the tourist’s chest to calm him down.

Officers arrived at about 9pm to find numerous individuals pushing each other. the tourist was being held down on the ground by a bouncer and Sullivan. Sullivan was twisting Markowitz’s toe. No one appeared to be drunk. No arrests were made or serious injuries reported. Markowitz was given a trespass warning.

[Two Big Pines!!!]
Big Pine Key is the largest island in the Lower Keys. If climate forecasters are correct, rising seas could turn Big Pine Key into two smaller islands in 50 years or less. North Big Pine Key and South Big Pine Key.

“The fact is we’re already feeling and seeing and living with the impacts of sea level rise. There is not a question in my mind that we are going to continue to feel the impacts.”   ~Chris Bergh Director of The Nature Conservancy’s Big Pine Key office

I don’t see anywhere that Walmart is coming to Rockland. Didn’t it get voted down? I will say, a Walmart somewhere down here would be a step in the right direction. Yes you read that correctly, and now here me out before you blow up Ed’s email box. Everyone is complaining that most of the houses are turning into rentals. Why? In my opinion, it is too expensive to live here with normal paying jobs. A Walmart would help lower the prices at the other big box stores like Winn Dixie and Publix. Drive down the cost of living and maybe people will actual live here and not vacation here. Makes sense, doesn’t it? Putting it on Rockland or somewhere in Marathon or Key West would not change the atmosphere of anything. Would you really get that upset if they tore down the adult store on Rockland? The Keys will never be like it was in the 70’s or 80’s. Nowhere is. That is over. Let’s try to make it a place to live and raise a family.

[Think Positive] I wonder if any of the people complaining about the round house being built on Cudjoe Key have considered the possibility that it may ultimately have the effect of enhancing the value of neighboring homes. After all, it will be bigger, stronger, more expensive, and certainly more interesting than the residences around it. Someday you may find yourself bragging about living near something so distinctive

I really like our stainless steel appliances because the white ones used to rust before they were even paid for. Contrary to its name stainless steel does indeed rust. I remove rust with Brillo or a fine grit (600) wet and dry sandpaper. The thing to remember is to scour the rust in the direction of the burnish or else you’ll have unsightly ‘spots’ that don’t match the rest of the burnish on the appliance.

[Hates It Here] My wife and I with our three kids came to the Keys two years ago and rented a house to see if we wanted to move here. My kids hate the place. My wife is totally frustrated. I cannot find a decent job. The cost of living here is nuts and service from mechanics and medical personal is next to useless. The islands are dirty, lack maintenance of any sort, have politicians who are as close to outright criminals, insects galore and even the scenery is terrible. So with those opinions in mind, we will not move here and will never recommend the Keys to anyone we like!

[Why we don’t have immigration reform] What part of illegal is so difficult for our leaders to understand. It is cut and dried. Send the illegals back to where they came from and send any offspring back with them. I can’t understand how they can muddy up the water so badly that they can’t see the truth. Go to Mexico as an illegal and see how they treat you. Go to Cuba as an illegal and see what happens. Our leaders have become pussys. They can’t do what is right for our country because they are so worried about their party and being reelected that they become numb to the reason they are in office. Lets put that item on the ballet and let American citizens decide what to do with the hoards of people that came to our country without any respect for our laws. We don’t owe anyone anything so we will be free to vote with common sense instead of trying to please a third party

veterans day salute flagInspirational and awe-inspiring does not adequately describe the spirited presentation delivered by John Donnelly and Norman Higgins at the United States Marine Corps’ Birthday Celebration that I attended last evening. Mr. Donnelly and Mr. Higgins were strikingly distinguished with their creative and stimulating ceremony. Founded upon the valor, traditions and sacrifices of the Marines that have served this nation, they created an extraordinary experience for the audience.

As alluded to Paul Bean, the manager of the Key Largo Publix, who generously donated sumptuous platters of food for this occasion. Mr. Bean’s benevolence and magnanimity have been regularly extended to this event. Chef Michael’s Restaurant in Islamorada provided two incredibly delicious birthday cakes, which were magnificently decorated, for the festivities. Dennis Ward’s Law Office and VFW Post 10211 in Key Largo were also instrumental in the evening’s success. American Legion Post 333 donated their spectacular facility for the ceremony. Their property, grounds and members are beautiful.

A wave of spirit, camaraderie and joy shaped a thoroughly enjoyable evening for my family and friends. It was refreshing to be in the presence of accomplished Americans, whose outstanding achievements were both eclectic and comforting.

The last time the GOP had this much control of the Congress and Senate was in 1929. Unless you are from another planet, you know it didn’t work out well for America. Does the crash of ’29 ring a bell? And it took them only 10 months to do this. Food for thought.

[“The sky is falling”] “The sea is rising!”
moo11Hemingway was notoriously fond of drinking, but he refrained from indulging while writing. When asked in an interview if rumors of him taking a pitcher of martinis to work every morning were true, he answered, “Jeezus Christ! Have you ever heard of anyone who drank while he worked? You’re thinking of Faulkner. He does sometimes – and I can tell right in the middle of a page when he’s had his first one. Besides, who in hell would mix more than one martini at a time?”

The mojito was not Hemingway’s favorite drink. Hemingway lived in Havana and may have drunk mojitos, but their connection to the writer can probably be traced to the marketing efforts of La Bodeguita del Medio. A handwritten inscription allegedly penned by Hemingway on the wall of the now famous bar professing his love for the cocktail is likely a forgery, says Greene, who consulted a handwriting expert. As a diabetic, Papa took most of his drinks (including absinthe and double daiquiris) without sugar. So, the sweet mojito surely would not have been his cup of tea.

Hemingway had several go-to cocktails, but his favorite was a dry martini. The author “thought globally… drank locally,” explains Greene. His characters often drank what he himself quaffed in whatever city he happened to be in while writing. But martinis were a constant, and each seemed drier than the last. In Across the River and Into the Trees, Colonel Richard Cantwell orders a Montgomery Martini: 15 parts gin to one vermouth. In A Farewell to Arms, Frederic Henry muses of sipping martinis: “I had never tasted anything so cool and clean. They made me feel civilized.”

Hemingway may have liked his martinis as dry as a bone, but he loved vermouth. While recuperating from his wounds during World War I, he would ask friends to smuggle bottles of it into his hospital room, writes Greene. Sound familiar? The A Farewell to Arms protagonist did the same: “I sent for the porter and when he came I told him in Italian to get me a bottle of Cinzano at the wine shop, a fiasco of chianti and the evening papers.” One of his favorite drinks aboard his boat Pilar was a Vermouth Panache, a blend of sweet and dry vermouth with Angostura Bitters.

Hemingway liked his drinks icy cold. In a letter he wrote to his publisher, he described using tennis ball cans to make dense tubes of ice for mixing martinis, and was known to freeze not only his cocktail glasses but Spanish cocktail onions to keep them cold. He bragged that the method made “the coldest martini in the world,” and described it as “so cold you can’t hold it in your hand. It sticks to the fingers.”

Hemingway did not invent the Bloody Mary. There are many stories about the origins of the Bloody Mary. One such legend has it that the drink was first served to Hemingway in Paris. As the story goes, his doctors had forbidden him from having alcohol and his wife, Mary, was holding him to it. A bartender at the Ritz mixed him the vodka-and-tomato juice drink, full of booze that could not be detected thanks to the other strong ingredients. Having got the better of his “bloody wife,” the cocktail was christened after her. A number of sources have debunked this myth.

Hemingway traveled extensively, but was most at home on a barstool. From his experiences in World War I and Lost Generation Paris to safaris in Africa and fishing the Gulf Stream, from covering the Spanish Civil War and World War II to chasing German U-boats off the Cuban coast, Hemingway’s life was one full of adventure, Greene reminds us. “Don’t bother with churches, government buildings or city squares,” Papa once said. “If you want to know about a culture, spend a night in its bars.”

[Sewers] Politicians in the Keys do not care about the environment. They do not listen to real engineers. They search for the engineer that will tell them what they want to hear. What do we really know about that landfill? What or who is buried in that landfill? We fork up the money for the injection well, do we really know what’s coming up from there? We need to be real careful of what we are forcing the county to do, we may end up having to pay for millions and millions of dollars in mitigation.

jesus bread wine
If Jesus was to appear in Key West he would immediately be one of the top rated bartenders in town with that water to wine gimmick and the restaurants would all want him to for the fish and bread specials. Dude would have no problems with employment and be an upstanding member of the community unlike the nasty, violent bums that pollute our beaches.
[Vietnam’s Cause] Key West resident, said he had worked for the CIA in Vietnam, when the French were trying to take it back from the North Vietnamese, who had taken over after the Japanese were defeated in World War II. Before that war, Vietnam had been a profitable French colony. The fellow said, although the US’ public foreign policy was to back the French in their trying to retake Vietnam, his unit’s mission was to do all they could to help the North Vietnamese defeat the French. The goal was for the US to replace the French in Vietnam. Mainly, so the US could control the Vietnamese rubber plantations, which were extensive. The North Vietnamese defeated the French, but the US then wanted too much and Ho Chi Minh turned to the Soviet Union as an ally and trading partner. And that’s how the US Vietnam war came about.

welcome back10
[“Your”
] This is starting to drive me crazy! Can no one spell anymore?
[Snowbird Neighbor] Welcome home (maybe). If some of your neighbors seems a bit chilly towards you, perhaps it’s the state you left your property in when you flew back North oh-so-many months ago. It would go a long way with your neighbors if you considered them and the upkeep of your property before you left. No one appreciates having to view your waist-high weeds, overgrown shrubs, and messy landscape litter for months on end because you did not hire a gardener to tend to your property during your extended absence. This maintenance is for your benefit as well as these unkempt conditions encourages rodents who might move into your home while you are away, and will prevent your coconuts from becoming flying projectiles during hurricane season.

Nor do we appreciate having to view your water toys stored in your yard. These are residential neighborhoods, not boat storage yards. It would go a long way with your neighbors if you would properly store your toys away in an enclosed area, or at least screen (lattice/ plants/something) your stored items from the public’s view. “Sanford and Son” is not the look we strive for in our residential Keys neighborhoods.

And now that you are back, please take that same advice of “screening from public view” to your laundry. I again assure you no one wants to know what type and color underwear you wear, as you leave it hanging off your porch for all to see. If you prefer to have your laundry air dried, then surely you must have a side yard tucked away from public view (or some area which you can make private through the installation of lattice or shrubs); please use that private area rather than flying your tighty-whiteys off of your porch.

Yes dear snowbirds, your neighbors will appreciate a little effort and consideration on your part, and you may just find your return next year less “chilly”.

[Uppers and Downers] A recent study that looked at traffic data over the last 20 years found that prescription drugs were involved in fatal crashes almost 50 percent of the time. Rx drugs caused more deaths on the highway than alcohol and three times as many as marijuana use. And the study found that as more and more of us are taking multiple drugs, the risk is getting higher and higher. The National Institute on Drug Abuse says that “even a small amount of some drugs can have a measurable effect on driving ability.” And if you’re involved in an accident, don’t think you can just tell the judge that what you took was what your doctor ordered, either. Because DUI means driving under the “influence” of anything that impairs your ability to drive. It won’t matter if that drug came from a guy on the corner or the corner CVS. Obama’s drug czar, R. Gil Kerlikowske warned “you can be as deadly behind the wheel with prescription drugs as you can with over-the-limit alcohol, and you are responsible for your own actions. ~These sobering statistics are from Health Sciences Institute.

We all know what happens to you when you go around talking and acting like Jesus did.
[Response to druggist] You are 100 % wrong about the prescription. I talked to the head pharmacist person at CVS. There was only one person there. No helper. She said that there were 3 different pills under that pill’s name. She is 100% wrong. There is only one. I was not in a hurry and I did not talk to a helper. The Pharmacist at Winn Dixie looked at the same prescription and said that there is only one pill by that name, no ifs, ands, or buts about it. They filled it right on the spot and they did not call the doctor like the first CVS one said she had to do.

Why are all the Dems so upset ? America screamed at the top of their collective lungs : No more fleecing of our Country , no more free shit for votes. The House , the Senate , the Governorships overwhelmingly won. So would the Dems on here please all get on a bus and head to France where there is a Government offering just what you want. The President’s recent support of net neutrality is something to watch because it will benefit everyone and level the playing field. I imagine the Republicans will oppose it because the rich do not want net neturality as it interferes with their accumulation of more wealth.
Heres a primer on how to get ahead in our country for the lost democrats: You don’t like your Income or your social status: Take a class at nite at the community college, show up to work a little early and stay a little late , outwork your co-worker …. and guess what you will get a promotion. Put away a little money and open a business . ect . ect. This is how we get ahead in America: we work hard.

Americans have had enough of the fleecing – and they showed it at the polls !!

[OBAMA declares that cable companies and Internet providers shouldn’t be allowed to cut deals with online services, to move their content faster and wants to regulate the Internet]  He has also proposed to tax (although he will never call it a “tax”) for internet usage by private citizens.  He will not however regulate or control our borders to provide for the safety and security of our country and citizens.  He will of course regulate your health care and turn the health care industry in to another money sucking quagmire of government bureaucratic red tape and incompetence. He can’t or won’t take control of the gigantic mess in the Middle East but he has drastically cut our military budgets while Russia, China, North Korea, Iran, ISIS and other radical Islamic terrorist groups that grow stronger every day.  He traded known terrorists in Gitmo for a U.S. military deserter and Taliban sympathizer but wouldn’t lift a finger or a telephone to secure the release of a U.S. Marine Corps. wounded hero and veteran of two tours in Afghanistan jailed just a few miles across the Mexican border (thankfully our Marine has been released due mostly to media pressure and intervention by State Representitives from Arizona, California and Texas no thanks to the White House). He bows from the waist before foreign leaders who laugh at him and think of him as a buffoon while Russian President Putin ignores his meaningless “red lines” as his Russian military machine invades neighboring countries at will while rebuilding the former Soviet Union.  He has alienated many of our allies and turned his back on Israel, our most valuable ally in the region.  He has taken tens of millions of dollars from the pockets of hard working Americans to give away free cell phones, increased social subsidies, more welfare handouts and other “benefits” to welfare slugs while he and his Junta machine plot more and more ways to take even more money from the working people and give it to those who have no desire to work but rather to live off the sweaty backs of the already beleaguered taxpayer.  And, stand by.  Since his party got trashed in the mid-term elections he will now try to rule by fiat, edict and so called “executive order” to grovel for votes for his party in the 2016 elections by promising even more to those who don’t, paid for by those who do.  That will likely include across the board amnesty for every illegal in the country (“You want to vote yourself more free stuff but you’re not a U.S Citizen? Hey, no problem, come on in”).  For six years we haven’t had a president. We’ve have a stuffed shirt wanna-be dictator who has now lost most of his power base. Perhaps he could be exiled to a golf course somewhere if someone was willing to take him.  I will bet it wouldn’t be Augusta!
from the right
Perhaps you may have noticed that the main stream reporting on Ebola has suddenly become strangely silent.

ebola cellIt appears that in Africa the Ebola scourge may be slightly decreasing. That is no thanks to the USA. I trust you will recall that the Obama admin promised immediate and substantial assistance to those stricken countries. But, in Liberia, ground zero, according to the Washington Post as of 11/6, not a single U.S.-promised treatment bed has been delivered to the country. Not a one. The military has promised to build 17 treatment centers containing 100 beds each in Liberia. So far, -0-, zip, nada.

Then of course you will recall that Mr. Obama has steadfastly refused to refuse admittance to the US by persons who resided in or have traveled through the stricken nations. But, according to NBC as of 11/6, in NYC, in only one week, the number of people being “monitored” for Ebola has increased by about 300%, from 117 to 357. This does not include people who have entered New York City from West Africa and lied on their entry forms, regarding the risk that they carry the virus. Those people wouldn’t even currently show up in the NYC Ebola watch list count. Thank God, so far, there are no media reports of active Ebola in our streets.

Part 2) My Oh My Oh My, the CT was chock a block full of really peeved liberals and Democrats. I wonder how many of them actually voted. They seem terrified of Mr. Obama’s infamous quote: “elections have consequences.”

One poster suggested that the Right had not passed any legislation that benefits the middle class. That poster must be reminded that the Republican controlled House of Reps has sent over 350 bills involving a full array of fiscal measures to the Senate that would help the middle class. But Senate Majority Leader, Democrat personified, Harry Reid has been steadfast in his refusal to permit the Senate to even consider the bills. No one knows why, he refuses to say. You can be sure it’s because the bills have great potential benefit, and they are Republican initiatives.

Personally I hope that a Republican House and Senate will not seek reprisals against the Democrats, (even though they would be richly deserved) but rather that they will quickly pass an array of bills, with bi partisan support, that will put the economy on steroids and be a huge boost to the middle class.

tax reform11It’s nearly certain that those bills will include The Keystone XL Pipeline (declared environmentally neutral by the Obama admin) that would create thousands of jobs. Business tax reform (separate from any individual tax reform) that would repatriate trillions upon trillions of dollars the Apples, Googles, GEs and others that keep money off-shore. If such legislation were implemented we would see a incredibly huge stimulus to our economy. New businesses, and expansion of existing businesses will guarantee hundreds of thousands new jobs and a huge boost to the middle class. Deer Friends, that is you and me.

The opening of federal lands for energy production would further bring down the price of gasoline, diesel and heating oil. Cheaper energy will the the mother’s milk of higher wages and more jobs.

Reducing the regulatory burden on small business with the Small Business Capital Access and Jobs Preservation Act that would drastically reduce regulations on small business, allowing them to hire more.

Certainly, most, if not all of this legislation will pass and will go on to the President’s desk. It remains to be seen if he will be able to curb his massive ego and his near fanatic left wing belief system, and sign the legislation.

Perhaps we’ll think about immigration tomorrow.
