[“Suffering from PTSD“] From the person yesterday posting such degrading comments to another veteran of the Vietnam War: were you even in country? Did you have to write letters home from Germany [staging area] dated in the future to send to your family? Did you see your whole platoon shot down and only three survivors make it back to the recon helicopter? I find your numbers are so wrong in terms of PTSD. From the VA site: “But a 2003 re-analysis found that, contrary to the initial analysis of the NVVRS data, a large majority of Vietnam Veterans struggled with chronic PTSD symptoms, with four out of five reporting recent symptoms when interviewed 20-25 years after Vietnam.” Who do you think you are to call another vet, any veteran, a sissy for his viewpoint?

[“Mangrove trimming”] 1996 Mangrove trimming and Preservation Act. 403.9326 Exemptions: “The trimming of mangroves that are 16 feet or greater in height must be conducted in stages so that no more than 25% of the foliage is removed annually. The mangrove may not be reduced to less than 6 feet as measured from the substrate” Link
tohatsu250hp
Tohatsu
now makes a 250hp 4-stroke outboard motor. I don’t know about it, but I once had a small Tohatsu that was nothing more than a lawnmower motor in an outboard’s cowling. When I tilted the motor to get the lower unit out of the water, salt water ran down the shaft into the motor rusting it out in a few weeks. It was the biggest bunch of crap I’ve ever owned. Now with that terrible reputation they want us to spend $20,000 on their 250hp? They’re giving 5 year warranty, but it would have to be more like a ten year warranty for me to consider a Tohatsu. On further inquiry I found that the motors are Hondas with a different paint job. All parts are interchangeable with Honda’s. Sort of like Evinrude and Johnson outboards (both problematic motors). [“Pope and Sloan believe in angels”] Sounds like the current pope of the Catholic religion is a nutcase if he really said what was posted on the CT yesterday.

[Traffic] It’s a one-lane-each-way highway out there for the most part with very few places to pass legally.  It only takes one dim bulb to jam things up.  At least on the few two-lane-each-way portions you can pass on the right if need be.

[“Mangrove trimming”] I don’t know if it is illegal to cut mangroves, but I do know that a lot of illegals are cutting mangroves. That would boil down to illegals illegally cutting. Could this action negate itself creating some kind of cosmic vortex? Quien sabe? Oye Como Va?

reefer-madness21[Pot is Bad] The terrible truth about cannabis: Expert’s devastating 20-year study finally demolishes claims that smoking pot is harmless.
One in six teenagers who regularly smoke the drug become dependent
It doubles risk of developing psychotic disorders, including schizophrenia
Heavy use in adolescence appears to impair intellectual development
Driving after smoking cannabis doubles risk of having a car crash
Study’s author said, ‘If cannabis is not addictive then neither is heroin’
So here’s the thing. The cult lefties who read this blog are going to go nuts over this scientific study. They will tell you a million of their friends smoke dope and they are all fine. And this is what I say…just roll your eyes and let them. This is a political movement that slaughters millions of its own children every year through a “right to an abortion”. They want to drug themselves and their few remaining offspring to death…so let them. In just a few short years they will incapable as a political body from organizing a trip to the bathroom let alone an election. They can’t feed themselves now, they hate working and soon they won’t remember to vote. Things are looking up. Link

[White Americans are not African Americans] Whites and Asians may have branched off the original African evolutionary tree, but their minds and bodies have evolved differently over eons for their respective environments. For instance only true whites can consume dairy products in quantity through their adulthood without negative effects as their ancestors lived off cows. Whites’ muscles are different as they were conditioned over time for strength and endurance. Blacks muscles were conditioned over time for speed to catch animals. Whites nostrils are narrow to protect against cold. Semitic noses have a downward turn to protect against dust, Blacks nostrils are flared for more air intake. The list goes on and on, but it’s a sure thing to recognize that man evolves to better fit into their environment. There is nothing wrong with that and some races are better at some things than others, but to group all of us into the African category is like branding all cars Fords.

I am leaving the Keys after 35 years. The TDC has done its job very well and will not stop drawing people here until these islands sink. Politicians are doing all they can to make it harder to stay. Sewers were a great idea until someone bought a lot of grinder pumps. The near shore waters are dying because of water quality and FWC worries about bag limits and closed areas saying if something isn’t done (probably to late) there will be no fish or coral. There used to be nice live coral in front of Little Palm and Looe Key. If you have been around long enough you know how bad it is. When I came here people came for the environment or to disappear; now they come to either make money or change everything like they have it up north.I’m leaving with great memories and the hope that things will change for the better for those of you know why this place is so special.
I was pleased to find that we are all Africans. I always wondered where my curly hair came from.

[“Trapping one cat a month on more than 6000 acres of refuge land can not have any real effect on the population of any animal?”] I disagree with Mr Dykhuisen post. Of course those 4 captures had an effect on the Crocodile Lake Refuge in North Key Largo. 6000 acres is not that much territory for 4 predators to hunt. Removing just one predator from any area will have an impact on lesser critters’ survival. It’s even possible that there are only 4 Key Largo woodrats in that whole refuge. No one knows. 4 starving cats can dominate an area. (Look at the movie Predator to see what one can do. ha.)
[“Losing Wars to Make Money”] Is Monday’s guy cracked with his theory or instinctively a negative person? Losing all our wars has nothing to do with money. Wars by nature are a boon for almost every economy. The reason we lose wars is politics and political considerations. We worry about collateral damage and how history and the world will view our actions. How someone wages war says a lot about that person. A good example would be how the Muslims wage war.

oregano7[Oregano Oil Prevents Ebola] Unlike most of you who take what the media reports as gospel, I on the other hand as an independent thinker research everything. According to my findings. The reason why Ebola has run ramped  in the west African region is solely due to the fact that since they live in poor, poverty and unhygienic conditions. Their immune system is highly vulnerable to infectious diseases and viruses.According to the top U.S. Virologists, it is claimed that if in the event that Ebola spreads in the U.S. most Americans will be immune to the virus due to our high tolerant immune system. They do recommend that everyone should take mass doses of vitamin C on a daily basis. Oregano oil is also a combatant since it helps with the immune system, intestinal digestive system, stomach composure, menstruation cramps, blood flow, heart and primarily lung and bronchial system.

Everyone who’ve I’ve encountered to suffer from chronic bronchitis, I’ve told them to get oregano oil and ad 6 to 8 table spoons to a gallon of water. Shake the gallon of water vigorously so that the oil bubbles are completely mixed with the water and drink a glass every hour. Every person I’ve recommended this to has come back to me, thanking me for a speedy recovery, while the western pharmaceutical prescriptions prescribed by their doctors didn’t work.

If you can’t find oregano oil, you can make a tea out of oregano leaves and drink it too. It is quite bitter to taste, but it does a lot of good for the human body.  The good thing about oregano is that you can grow it in your own backyard. On the other hand, it’s quite evident that every time snowbirds arrive down for their winter migrations to the Keys, they bring all their viruses from up north with them. This usually results with a massive flu sickness that attacks the locals within the months of late October to early January.

I’ve seen snowbirds arrive at Winn-Dixie, CVS, Walgreens etc., and actually cough in peoples faces without having the decency to cover their mouths. What I recommend is that if you work in customer service, cashier or sales personnel. I recommend that you use surgical gloves in order to avoid hand contact, and if possible a surgical mask too. I stopped shaking peoples hands for this same reason. What I do now is fist bump everyone. It makes you look cool too, and it makes the elderly feel hip. Good luck to you all!

[Coral] Here we are in a Marine Sanctuary trying to protect our coral reef because all over the world corals are stressed and disappearing. Yet all along our highway and in the multitudes of our gift shops you see coral and sea shells for sale. Don’t you think that’s counterproductive?  Does some of that coral come from US territories including Guam, Samoa, etc, or other foreign countries, or covertly from here? Either way that is sending a message to our visitors that it’s ok to take coral regardless of where it comes from. We need to challenge our appointed and elected officials to help stop this world wide plundering. Sorry gift shops, maybe you can sell more tee shirts instead.

] Why on earth would you complain? You, I assume, live in the Keys. You woke up this morning and saw green grass rather than roots so you are alive in this wonderful world for another day. The Sun is shining, rain will fall in time to nurture our Earth and plants. You complain? How sad, really sad. Life is so short and you whine about a temperature change?

I will share it, take what you like and leave the rest. Winter is coming.
Something Told the Wild Geese by Rachel FieldSomething told the wild geese
It was time to go,
Though the fields lay golden
Something whispered, “snow.”

Leaves were green and stirring,
Berries, luster-glossed,
But beneath warm feathers
Something cautioned, “frost.”

All the sagging orchards
Steamed with amber spice,
But each wild breast stiffened
At remembered ice.

Something told the wild geese
It was time to fly,
Summer sun was on their wings,
Winter in their cry…

If you we’re losing your sight, what would you want to see? I would want to see Bahia Honda again. Link

I do appreciate you giving us an opportunity to rant about what we feel is injustice. The voters in the Keys voted for a small tax increase specifically for the mandated sewer cluster f**k and a certain Commissioner voted to take $14million from that fund and give it to FDOT to fix that crappy old bridge. [The Truth Hurts] I don’t know, but it looks to me like this F.T.R. guy better start putting a little spin on his posted facts, he is absolutely giving the left posters on this site a cow, it has been proven that a strict adherence to the facts will almost invariably cost a host of maladies to folks with a very liberal ideology. I believe the F.T.R. will agree with me that this could be a heavy load to have to bear. just a few small lies would greatly ease their burden I think.

[Captain Doom and Gloom] People do stupid things like owning Pit-bull, Pythons, poison bugs, and other dangerous pets. Why? Because they are idiots. There should be a strict law that if some idiot owns such things, they should be jailed for several years and the ‘pet’ should be sent to the local Oriental food restaurant!About every six months I send my list of ‘friends’ an email asking if they still want to receive my sending’s or not or if they want to receive just humor, politics, news, computer stuff, etc. I tell them if they reply I will conform, if not I will continue to send. The sad part is, most females reply with, ‘Please do not send War stuff or political stuff, or hate, Muslim, racial or anti-religious stuff, it is too depressing!’  Most men reply with ‘Who cares, send it all!’ This shows me who is a responsible thinker and who wants to hide in their clouds and dreams. A POSTER WROTE: “Governor] If you don’t like Charlie or Rick vote for Wylle. Libertarians can’t screw up things anymore than the others and it will send a strong message even if he came in second.”FTR’S RESPONSE: I respectfully disagree with that view. I fully understand the emotions that might lead to that opinion, but to do so simply wastes your vote.

scott7In this year’s Governor’s race we have the good fortune to be able to compare the performance of the immediate past Governor to the current Governor. There is absolutely no doubt but that Crist left Florida in much worse shape than when he was elected. He left our economy in shambles. In fact, he screwed things up so badly that he quit, he didn’t even bother to run for a second term. And he spent most of his last two years in office running for the Senate. He lost, big-time. He promised not to, but he quit the Republican party to run for the Senate as an Independent. The independent voters rejected him,  the Democrat voters rejected him, and the Republican voters rejected him.

Governor Scott was elected and under his leadership Florida has made an astounding turnaround. Scott repaired all the damage done by Crist and his new initiatives have been phenomenally successful. Florida is at, or near the head of the pack of all 50 states in economic recovery.

Libertarianism is a political philosophy that upholds liberty as its principal objective. Libertarians seek to maximize autonomy and freedom of choice, emphasizing political freedom, voluntary association and the preeminence of individual choice. Those beliefs mirror Republican beliefs.  Like Republicans, they object to an overarching government, and embrace individual liberty.

Libertarian views are more closely allied with Republicans than with Democrats. That is especially so in bread and butter issues such as fiscal matters, personal privacy and liberty.

Voting for a candidate who has no chance of winning is simply a waste of your vote. It might make you feel as though you are making a valiant protest, but it will do no good. It will make no difference. I respectfully urge you, for the sake of Florida, chose either Crist or Scott and vote for one of them. Certainly, one of them will be more palatable to you than the other. Then, your vote will matter.

chart-sea-level6A POSTER SUBMITTED A GRAPH. That graph purports to show the sea level rise in Key West over the last 115 years. It’s worth noting that the graph does not have a statement of authenticity, nor do we know its author.  Nonetheless it may look disturbing until you do the conversions and the math. Then you’ll realize that over the last 115 years the average annual sea level rise has been only .088 inches per year. Then you have to ask if the sea is rising, or is the land subsiding. And you have to note that the graph claims that the Key West sea level is rising at the rate of 2.24 mm per (.088”) per year, this is less than NOAA claims is the current world wide sea level increase, 3mm per year.

The graph shows no increase whatsoever in the rate of increase in the last 115 years, but that the rate of increase seems to be slowing in recent years.

Finally, if you believe that all the glaciers and arctic ice is melting, nearly gone, melted, does that not mean that we are about enter an age of no sea level increase.
