[Oscar Slap] Will Smith causing such a scene at the Oscars was bad judgement and too “Hollywood”. Smith knew that 15.4 million people were watching. He should have waited until after the show and punched Chris Rock then. Mr Rock merely made a joke about Smith’s wife’s big flop of a movie GI Jane 2 not about her medical condition. It still would have made headlines but would have been more classy which is more like Will Smith. He blew it. Video
[Rubles to Gold] The Russian central bank pegged 1 gram of gold to 5000 Rubles (currently, about 50 bucks). At the same time, Putin made it so that Russian gas and oil can only be purchased in Rubles. Meaning Putin basically just pegged Russian oil and gas to gold, using paper rubles as a proxy. Europe will need to either buy Rubles from Putin in gold, in order to buy gas and oil, or they will have to buy directly in gold. Which means, there will soon be a lot more demand for rubles. Currently, the Forex rate for rubles to dollars is about 100:1. But with 5000 rubles now equaling 1 gram of gold, and oil being priced directly in gold – you’re going to see a massive price disruption in these Forex markets, in terms of how much gold a dollar can actually still buy
I was looking at architecture and some of the building shapes are downright ugly. I don’t know why someone would pay for such a crappy look. They all want to be distinct, but your can be distinct and not be crappy. I’ve sat in on planning sessions where architects try to talk the money people into building something. They paint and ugly project in glowing terms and before the money people know it they are sold an ugly building. I’ve argued with architects over the fact that most of them build things because they can; not because their design will suite the location. Once something is built, we have to live with it for a hundred years. (A good example is those round houses on Cudjoe Key that are total out of harmony with that quiet neighborhood.)

[Speed Limit On 2-Lane Road] It looks like a hell of a lot of people need to attend driving school. The 45 MPH speed limit is just what it says. Not how fast you must go, but the fastest that the law allows you to go. No need to go right at 45, 35 or 40 is fine, just get over to the right side. The 45 MPH people can go 45. Maybe 46 / 47 if no one is looking. You will sit beside them at the next red light or stop sign.

If instead of waiting to execute degenerate offspring for crime, or to let them starve for their imbecility, society can prevent those who are manifestly unfit from continuing their kind.
[“Driving to slow”] I hope cops keep ticketing slow-pokes because in order to keep the flow of traffic moving we all drive 5 mph over the speed limit. This is excepted in the lower Keys and always has been.
[FTR] A contributor woofed last Friday that about a third of Americans earn less than $15 per hour.   Sounds horrible, doesn’t it? But if you look at the rest of the story you’ll see that since 2016 wages, especially low end wages, have risen dramatically. In a 2016 SLATE article, they reported that “42.4 percent of American workers currently make less than $15 an hour.”
Deer Friends, do just a little math and you’ll find that the number of Americans making less than $15 per hour has decreased by 20%!   Hot damn, that’s great news.  Hmm, how did that happen?
[People] Most people are a**holes and they know it. Don’t believe me? Next time you see a group of people, yell out, “Hey, asshole!” They’ll all turn and look.
[Howitzer] I was idly wondering who invented the howitzer, which is a cannon. I didn’t know that. I was pretty sure it was some guy named Howitz, but I was wrong. The name Howitzer comes from an old Chech word meaning a catapult that would fire many stones. The Howitzer was actually invented by a Royal Artillery officer named Henry Shrapnel. (And Krupps’ Big Bertha howitzer was named for his wife Bertha.)

Man, I really liked the gif of that wagging Golden Retriever.  I’d like to have it on my phone, maybe as a screensaver or otherwise. It’s heartwarming. Was only able to copy the image. [“Driving too slow”] What a whiny lot. When I lived in Big Pine Key, before I moved to Spring Hill to care for my mother, If you had to go to Marathon, you had to turn right toward Key West and vice versa. You still do–there’s only one road. If you live in the beautiful Keys and have to rush everywhere, you’re doing it wrong. Move to Spring Hill or Hudson where everyone rides your rear bumper and takes the speed limit and stop signs as mere suggestions.

[“Slow drivers”] I hope to dog those posts that ripped into the 45 MPH speed topic were kidding about people going 40 MPH. I know the Keys are not like they used to be because of all the fruit loops that took over and drove out the real people. To read the input of this CT blog and take their views seriously is sickening.
[Bagel French Toast] Why is it that every time I invent a new recipe, someone has been there before? This time I thought it would be nice to have some French toast — but I don’t have any bread. Hmmm? There are some bagels in the freezer. Why not? And as usual people have already read my mind & posted recipes. Can hardly wait for breakfast time. My mouth is watering already.
