[Mental Instability] Also in play, from early 1997 through June 1998, I was in a black night of the soul, which had come upon me in two days’ time. I knew it was not of this world. It felt like half my brain had died. The right half. I stopped dreaming. I felt completely cut off from God.
I was being treated by a well-meaning psychiatrist, who was clearly out of his depth, never having heard of a mere dark night of the soul, which I had endured for four years, 1991-1995, and then I had three spontaneous visions in four days’ time, and it began to lift.
After meeting with my father and Joann, his second wife, the psychiatrist told me Joann wanted me dead.
During the black night, my friend who had worked for my father had three dreams, which suggested I was not in nearly as much danger as I felt every day and night.
I didn’t even tell him that I was spending four hours every morning, planning how I would kill myself the next day, and after figuring that out, I relaxed knowing that day was my last. I came up with the same escape plan every morning: go somewhere alone the next day and slit my wrists with my Swiss Army knife.

[Tanks] Countries by the number of tanks they have in 2023. Link

[Restaurant Review] I had lunch last week at the ‘new and improved’ Boardwalk Bar and Grill. The new owners are great and the food was fantastic and reasonably priced. The only thing that could be better is if they bring Kymi, the bartender, back. She is by far one of the best barmaids in the Keys. I look forward to frequenting the place.
The Supreme Court’s biggest decisions are coming. Here’s what they could say. Link

[Chateau of Villandry] There is only one reason places like these exist and that is because their owners are smarter and craftier than you are. Link

[Trying To Make Condoms Sexy] It is important to Ben Wilson, the man in charge of the condom brand Durex, that he chews the condoms he sells. He likes to consider their flavor, to know the sensory experience of a customer engaged in oral sex, and to think about how it could be bettered. He makes other people sample them, too. In a car on the way to the Durex condom factory on the outskirts of Bangkok, as traffic vibrated in the heat along the highway, he told me with pride about the time he had laid out rows of bananas and condoms for a gathering of senior executives at Reckitt, Durex’s parent company. “I said: ‘If you want to work on condoms you need to put a condom on that banana and taste it.’” Link
[Peace and Quiet] My wife asked if she could have a little peace and quiet while she cooked dinner. So I took the battery out of the smoke alarm.
[Submarine] I don’t want to make light of a tragedy, but there’s a certain poetic justice in watching a company that scoffed at safety measures and filled a vessel with crazy-rich people, getting into trouble while trying to go gawk at the remains of a company that scoffed at safety measures and filled a vessel with crazy-rich people.
[Malaria] The Florida Department of Health is issuing a statewide mosquito-borne illness advisory following four confirmed and recovered local cases of malaria in Sarasota County. All individuals have been treated and have recovered. Malaria is transmitted through infected mosquitoes. Residents throughout the state should take precautions by applying bug spray, avoiding areas with high mosquito populations, and wearing long pants and shirts when possible – especially during sunrise and sunset when mosquitos are most active.

[Don’t Blame Adam] Study finds 100% of men would eat any fruit given to them by a naked woman.

[Go Figure] Plastic water bottles are okay, but plastic bags are banned.
My laptop died. It had the Intel Core i7 processor—the top of the line processor. I liked the laptop so I bought another identical one, but this time I bought the lesser processor, the Core i5 and saved hundreds of dollars. I thought it would be slower but it isn’t. I can’t tell the difference. The old one was fast and the new one is just as fast and a whole lot cheaper.

Sending fake emails is one of the most common scams, so it’s important to know what to look for. These fake messages can look real, but link to fake websites. The website may look like a trusted, well-known company, too, but it’s all a trick to get your information – such as Social Security number or bank and credit card account numbers. A more aggressive fake email may invade your computer with malicious software (malware) or a virus as soon as you open the email. Link
