[Murdering Nature] Somebody is purposely killing poisonwood on Big Pine Key. Last year large numbers of poisonwood trees were killed with herbicide just north of the Big Pine Shopping Center. The same thing is happening now along Key Deer Blvd,  a little further north. Poisonwood, Metopopium toxiferum, is a protected species, and very important to the White Crow Pigeon.

White Crown Pigeons are at an all-time-low in numbers, since Hurricane Irma, September 10, 2017 they have not recovered!

Now, somebody on Big Pine Key is Killing the poisonwood. Does anybody know why?

[Friday Joke] Next time you’re feeling down remember life is all about perspective. I have a friend who has sex 2-3 times a day, exercises twice a day, reads two books a week yet every day he complains about how much he hates prison.
A Soldier’s Story” is being written by my former teacher. He protected and shared with us his knowledge and invaluable experience, while creating a learning environment that ensured our success and graduation. Mr. Donnelly’s dedication and compassion for my individual needs allowed me to develop and grow into a beautiful person with a wonderful family. His story is revealing and noteworthy, as I know he’s the real deal. Thank you, Mr. Donnelly.
How is election fraud accomplished in our county? Why are Marathon residents able to become commissioners for Big Pine Key? Is it because the Supervisor Of Elections has failed to update the voter rolls adequately? My daughter lived with me for about nine months in 2010-2011 and got a driver’s license here. In 2011 she moved to Washington state. Since then she has received 3 jury summons for Monroe County. When I receive those summons I write on the summons “return to sender she has moved out of state”. Yesterday she received a summons for a Grand Jury. Now I’ve been notifying the Supervisor Of Elections, via returned mail since 2011, that she had moved out of state. This puzzles me but then I remember when I was a kid in Chicago during the Richard J. Daily era and Democratic Ward committee men going to Graceland and Rosehill Cemeteries copying names off the tombstones. Are our elections completely fraud free? Why hasn’t she been removed from the voter rolls?

[Tulips] The paradise of spring. Tourists come to see tulips in Holland once again, grabbing incredible photos of spring. Video

[Nominative Determinism] A theory that says people gravitate toward jobs that fit their names, like Judge Laws, or a guy called Salmon might become a fishmonger.
[“A Soldier’s Story”] I appreciate the depth and insight of this powerful piece. This first-hand, primary sourced historical event has its place in our schools and universities. Mr. Donnelly’s compelling account of his experiences, intricately details the nuances and brutality of war. Systems of government appear to have an affinity towards such grotesque involvements. Kudos to Mr. Donnelly and bigpinekey.com for making available an article of this magnitude.

[“Refurbished gear”] I don’t know about buying refurbished electronic gear. I’ve had bad luck with used electronics. I’d rather pay full price and have something with a 1 year warranty.

[“Coconut Telegraph sucks”] Nobody, absolutely nobody, is forcing anyone to read it!
[“Beautiful soldiers”] Unfortunately many of them are sexually assaulted by their male counterparts!

[Dangerous For Famous Musicians To Fly] Patsy Cline, Glenn Miller, Otis Redding, Buddy Holly The Big Bopper, Richie Valens, Steven Van Zant, Jim Croce, Aaliyah, Lynyrd Skynyrd, John Denver, Rick Nelson, Randy Rhodes, Jim Reeves all died in plane crashes. The Day the Music Died
[Think You’re Having A Shitty Day?] Fire crews rescued a woman after she fell headfirst into a vault toilet. A woman was rescued by two fire crews after she fell headfirst into a vault toilet while trying to retrieve her cellphone at a park on Olympic Peninsula, Washington.

The woman in her mid-40s was using an outhouse at Mount Walker, a popular destination for hikers, on April 19, when the accident occurred, according to the Brinnon Fire Department. A vault toilet is a waterless, non-flush toilet usually placed at outdoor locations like campgrounds — so named because the toilets store waste in an airtight vault underground.
After dropping her phone in the toilet, the woman disassembled the seat and housing of the toilet in an attempt to reach it, the fire department said on Facebook. She used a dog leash to try to “fish it out,” before using it to support herself as she tried to grab the phone.

But the attempt failed, and she slid into the toilet. Fortunately, after 20 minutes inside the vault, she was able to find and use her phone to call 911. Crews from the Brinnon Fire Department and Quilcene Fire Rescue reported to the scene and pulled her to safety. According to the fire department, the uninjured woman was washed down and given a Tyvek suit to wear. But she declined any further medical treatment and continued on her way. “The patient was extremely fortunate not to be overcome by toxic gases or sustain an injury,” the department said.

[Sign of the Times] Flashbulbs are no more. I used to like peeling the plastic off burnt bulbs as a kid.

[“Coconut Telegraph sucks”] I’ve noticed a lot of people commenting they do not like what they are reading in whatever category on this site and think certain things should be removed.  I have been an active reader since 2004.  What is it that people do not understand about the 1st Amendment?  This site is in my opinion a bonus for the middle and lower Keys’ residents.  As with anything, if you do not like it, stop using it, listening to it, reading it, or watching it.
Where can a person purchase Molletes in Key West? I’m aware that sometimes 5 Brothers makes them, but not very regularly. Any place else that anyone knows about?

The American dream of owning a house is becoming unattainable for most. Corporate real estate investors don’t even look at the homes they’re bidding on, and typically waive inspections. The home can be in any shape and sell within hours. This puts first-time home buyers at a serious disadvantage, as they have many hoops to jump through before they can secure a loan and close the deal.

One company owns 30,000 single family homes and tries to buy 800 houses a month.  There are companies much bigger!

[Hamburg] Ground sirloin is now $12 a pound!

A Soldier’s Story” touched my soul. My father served in Vietnam.  I love him dearly, but he was not the same man when he came back from the war. Many short stories, plays, and books are encapsulated in Mr. Donnelly’s masterful essay. The crackerjack editing accentuates, brings out and perfectly frames this breathtaking and elegantly written masterpiece.
A Soldier’s Story” is a Memorial Day tribute in the making. This spot-on and well-done article is cause to reflect and remember the totality of war. Heartfelt gratitude and respect for all who have served our country. All gave some, some gave all. Imperfect as we are, America is a beacon of light sought by people around the world. Many seekers have lost their lives and the lives of loved one’s seeking shelter on our shores. Full Menu > A Soldier’s Journey

[These Darn Big Box Stores] I go to buy a belt sander since I didn’t think my local place had one strong enough. Well, cut to the chase: The big box tool department worker had no clue of the tool’s operation, dust collection, etc. Thank God for Strunk hardware!
[Another Soldier’s Journey] “The 1916 defense of Verdun. As day broke, I looked out upon this famous, nameless hill 304. Our trench lay at the foot of it. For several months the hill had been disputed as if it had diamond mines on its slopes. Alas, all it contained now were thousands of shredded, pulverized corpses. Nothing distinguished it from neighboring hills. It seemed to have been partly wooded at one time, but no trace of vegetation remained. The convulsed, overturned earth offered nothing but a spectacle of devastation.” ~French soldier
