[Crook] Camus Lorenzo McNair a 39-year old Key West man hid more than 11 ounces of cocaine in a stuffed Cookie Monster doll following a traffic stop in Marathon. He has a litany of arrests in Monroe County dating to 2001 including kidnapping, battery, violation of probation and other drug-related incidents.

[“Bruce Schmitt”] I’ve noticed that several people are curious as to who the elusive Bruce Schmitt is. I know who he is. And I’m not telling. But what I can tell you is that Bruce has been serving this community for a very, very long time. And he has served this community in ways that you can’t even imagine. Some people are more politically aware and active than others. And I know for a fact that Bruce cares very deeply about our community, so cut him some slack. What makes our country great is that we are allowed to speak our minds. And that’s exactly what he’s doing. He has done more for this community than most people I know. In case Bruce reads this, hi Bruce! Keep up the good work and don’t let the haters get you down.
[FTR on Food] We just back from dinner at Bistro 31.  I gotta tell ya’, we’ve eaten at just about every restaurant between Islamorada and Key West.  So far, our very favorite place for dinner is Bistro 31.  It is the consummate local’s restaurant.

There is nothing fancy about Bistro. It is as comfortable as an old pair of flip flops.  The food is consistently good (of course, every now and then there is a clinker, but’s that’s rare).

The steaks are always great.  JR’s sizzling fajita’s are a true thing of beauty.  I particularly enjoy the crab cakes.  Sunday is comfort food night — always roast turkey and pot roast.

Tonight was a rare treat, JR had a half of a fried chicken special for dinner.  If he were to make that a special just one night a week, it would make me a very happy camper.  It was great.

Every now and then I enjoy a cocktail before dinner. Bistro is the only place on BPK that you can do that.  It’s the only restaurant on the island that serves liquor. And the drinks are generous and great.

If you haven’t already, do yourself a favor and let JR show you what really good food is!

Deer Abby,
Does racism exit on the Planet of the Apes?
Sign me,
Back hairDeer Back hair,
Yes, racism and prejudice exist every place there is any difference. Everyone likes themselves more than others. About fifty years ago there was a study of two identical tribes in the jungles of South America, I think it was in Venezuela. These tribes were deadly enemies who had lived near each other for ages. Researchers could find nothing different in their history, lifestyles, breeding, urges, or anything that would make them hate each other so much or even a little bit. The only thing they could find different between these two great enemies was that one tribe had longer ears than the other! None of them had excessive back hair, though.
[161 Years Ago in Key West] Mary Lane died at 1 p.m., and was buried about 7 p.m. A schooner from Cienfuegos [Cuba]  came in with one dead and one sick onboard with yellow fever. The six cases of fever here all have died. The sun set clear for the first time since last Monday.

[“Removing 5200 sealant”] You can use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the glue, but be careful you don’t burn the fiberglass or discolor the metal with too much heat. You are only trying to soften the glue at which time you can then pry or slice around the sealant.

[Contrails] More photographic evidence that U.S. Government has been in the forefront of chem-trails. This photo circa 1943, clearly show the chemical trails emanating from tips of these B-17 bombers propellers. An amazing technological feat for that time.

[“Diver death, 70 year old man”] You are never too old to dive. You might be unfit to dive, but age has less to do with it than your level of fitness and experience.  I have been a dive instructor for well over 30 years and have taught people over 80 who do quite well and were of course cleared by a physician first. I also know people in their thirty’s who have no business getting into water over their waist!
[Hey, Look At Me] Young people will do almost any abomination to their bodies to get noticed and to stand out in a crowd. If I thought like that I’d tattoo a black dot in the center of my bottom lip. Everyone would remember me, if for nothing else than the dot in the middle of my lip. It would beat scarifying the rest of my body with paintings. It’s a lot like talking to someone with a pimple on their nose. You talk to them, but stare at the pimple and remember them because of that pimple.
[“Who is Bruce Schmitt”] Yes, it’s the same man.  You’ll get a laugh at his FB page.  Check that out.  He sure does have a hard-on for the Sheriff. The Schmitt family is pretty rich in Monroe County and with wealth comes privilege.  The family money has been passed down.  There is bad blood between Bruce Schmitt and another man in town who dated his wife, Ginger Henderson. ~Laslllandlllas@yahoo.com

[My Wife] I was relaxing with a cold beer and trying to watch a ball game when my wife said, “You haven’t said one word to me in two days.”  I said, “Yeah, well, I didn’t want to interrupt you.”  That’s when the fight started.

[“Sex Robots”] It’s happening for real. Doll brothels are already operating in South Korea, Japan and Spain, and the first robotic oral sex coffee shop opened last year in London. When should we expect one to open in Key West? Link

[Experts] How lucky are we on this tiny island to have experts on sewage systems, Zika, healthcare, politics, law enforcement, etc all wrapped up into one individual? I mean, what are the odds? I just get down on my knees every day and thank the good Lord that I am alive to witness it. Articulate and humble. Women want to be with him and men want to be him. Thank the baby Jesus you were there to absorb his musings.
[Building Permits] “PAGE IS CURRENTLY UNDER CONSTRUCTION”. This is what you get when you try to get help from the County in connection with building permits. This is not helpful. Link

[Marathon Senior Center?] Has anyone any information on the ‘senior center’ (for lack of a better name) that is going in to the left of Driftwood Pizza in Marathon near 107th Street?

I’ve got an elderly neighbor who I think could benefit, but I don’t know the name of it or who to contact.  Thank you in advance.

[“Bruce Schmitt”] To the poster sending an open letter to Schmitt: Boy, oh boy, are you going to get a forceful and bitter verbal attack.  Strap on.  That man has too much time on his hands and lots of opinions, hardly any of them good.  ~ocean513beach@yahoo.com

[Freedom] Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? Freedom has a price! Link
Salaam-Alaikum, the Arabic greeting meaning “Peace be unto you,” was the standard salutation among members of the Nation of Islam. The greeting was routinely deployed whenever and wherever Muslims gathered and interacted, whether socially or within worship and other contexts. “Wa-Alaikum-Salaam,” meaning “And unto you peace,” was the standard response.

The appropriate general non-Muslim reply is ‘Mualaikumsalam’ which means ‘peace be also with/upon you’ in the Arabic language.

Never let yourself be persuaded that any one great man, any one leader, is necessary to the salvation of America. When America consists of one leader and 158 million followers, it will no longer be America.  ~Dwight D. Eisenhower

[Older Ladies] The Keys girl bands should do this one. It’s super cute. Video

[“Love dolls”] It would be best to get two for when one is in the shop!
[Equal Prejudice] I was pleasantly surprised that some good old boys from Alabama and Georgia were caught poaching lobster. Usually it’s Hispanics from Hialeah or Miami. If anyone breaks our laws I prefer it to be rednecks. This incident is a good thing as it does take a little heat off of the Miami bunch. The thieves are showing diversity– always a good thing according to the media. Spread the crime out. Equal opportunity. I can’t wait until some Amish poachers are nailed. Mormons will be next!

[“Key Deer poachers”] Arraignment for Younge is this Wednesday 7/19/2017 845 in Key West – Judge Jones. Arraignment for Damas Acosta is Wednesday 7/19 845 in KW – Judge Miller.

This information is from the Monroe County Clerk of Court website. The proceedings are open to the public. Please check the Clerk of Court site for any further updates.

[“Who is Bruce Schmitt”] Who is Bruce Schmitt is not the Coldwell Banker Broker. Brian Schmitt is the Coldwell Banker broker. Bruce Schmitt is the man who has the issue with the Sheriff and is not Beata Sharpe’s broker!

[Marathon’s Parking Code] The majority of you do not understand how Marathon’s Parking Code works or your role in making sure that it is even followed correctly. That became painfully obvious last night based on some of your comments and inability to grasp the basic concepts of your own Parking Code. It is rather simple, all newly developed properties must meet all of your Building Codes including your Parking Code without exception. Your Building/Planning Departments do a very good job of enforcing this with all new construction.

Most new properties, built with permits under the Monroe County and City of Marathon Codes are legal conforming properties. We have many properties in Marathon that were legally built when the Monroe County Parking Codes were much less strict or didn’t really exist at all. To this day these properties are still legal, they just do not conform to our current code as it now exists. As legal yet nonconforming properties to our current code they are not required to come into compliance to our current parking code, unless the intensity of their use is increased by a new type of higher intensity type of use or business, usually when going from retail/office use to restaurant/bar would be an example of increasing intensity of use. An illegal non-conforming property is not very common since the City generally also does a good job of enforcing their permitting process, their zoning laws (exception being the original Sunset Grille approval), and any illegal activities in general.

Marathon Community Theatre, located at 5101 Overseas Highway in Marathon, will present Into the Woods Jr. by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine.  This cockeyed fairytale is brought to life by the children of the Middle Keys who have been working through the summer learning all the aspects of community theatre.  The students begin with auditions for on-stage participation and continue their learning through all the details of what happens backstage such as lighting and sound, set-design and building, directing and producing, gathering props, costuming, set-dressing and all other responsibilities necessary to produce and present a quality live presentation.

Into the Woods Jr. features all your favorite characters: Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and his beanstalk and the Witch.  The musical centers on a baker and his wife who wish to have a child; Cinderella, who wishes to attend the King’s festival; and Jack, who wishes his cow would give milk.

Nearly 40 local students from ages six to 18 have participated in the program which is supported, in part, by the Community Foundation of the Florida Keys, the City of Marathon and the Marathon Community Theatre.

Devin Clarke and Kara Pascucci, both board members and seasoned performers at MCT, have taken on the responsibility of teaching these young thespians for the past several weeks.

Performances are Friday, July 21 and Saturday, July 22, beginning at 7:00 p.m.  Tickets are $10 per person and can be purchased online, at the box office at 5101 Overseas Highway in Marathon, or by calling 305-743-0994. Link
