Letters to the editor with pictures since 0202. Published on Big Pine Key’s garbage days, Tuesdays and Fridays.

[The Good Guys] To the three men who interrupted their fishing near the old wooden bridge Monday evening and re-positioned their pontoon boat to assist a couple novice paddlers back onto their kayak – A big thank you! A solid reminder there is a lot of good in our world, especially in the Keys

As an old man I find that my fly is down in public more than usual.

[The Mangrove Newspaper] My name is Johnny and my grandfather, Al McKee, would occasionally contribute fiction pieces to The Mangrove news (as well as Island Life) from the 1989-1993-ish I believe. If you have any records of his writings please let me know how to access them, Nothing but the best, Johnny T. Link

What’s being built at the old Pelican Post/Montego Bay site?  It’s been cleared, fenced, and the construction barriers erected.

I agree that Allen Archer has slowed down his speech. I wondered what his hurry was when he would utter these on long word weather forecasts.

The next meeting of our Big Pine Computer Club is coming up this Saturday, March 23, 10 am at the senior center.  Hope to see you there! Full Menu > Ongoing Events

[Aspirin] However, quitting your daily aspirin dosage can come with its own risks; a 2017 Swedish study found that people who stopped suddenly saw a 37% increased risk of heart attack or stroke. The risks outweigh the benefits, but the idea brought a lot of money to the aspirin companies. Link

[Remembering Combat Casualties] Magnificent undertaking on behalf of Service Members and their Families, “Killed In Action” while in service to our Nation. These “Combat Casualties” have been lost and unidentified for many years. Their families never received the “Purple Heart Medal” recognizing their loved one’s Sacrifice, while acknowledging the grieve and suffering of their Great Loss. It seems to me a coordinated effort given the available technology, can identify and secure the “Purple Heart Award” that our “Veterans Killed In Combat” are entitled to receive.

At the moment I’m incapacitated via injuries and an illness I recently incurred. My computer expertise is rather limited. However, I will do everything within my power to assist in advancing the Cause that’s been proffered, as my health returns.

I respect, trust and have great admiration for those I included in this email. You have far greater minds and skills than I do, when it comes to bringing a project such as this to fruition. If it’s possible, perhaps you’d be willing to initiated a solution of sorts, which can begin to bring about a resolution for these Neglected Warriors and their Families.

Once back on my feet and able to secure a vehicle, I will travel to and work with any agency or individual that can assist us in securing our objective. I thank you all so very much for the many sacrifices and contributions you’ve continued to make on behalf of our Extended Communities. Please consider rendering another act of sacrifice and service for this Exceedingly Worthy Cause. Thank you.  ~Respectfully, John Donnelly

[Friday Joke] After 10 years, the wife starts to think their kid looks kind of strange so she decides to do a DNA test. She finds out that the kid is actually from completely different parents.
Wife: Honey, I have something very serious to tell you.
Husband: What’s up?
Wife: According to DNA test results, this is not our kid.
Husband: Well you don’t remember, do you? When we were leaving the hospital, you noticed that our baby had pooped, then you said: “Please go change the baby, I’ll wait for you here. So I went inside, got a clean one and left the dirty one there.”
[Failure] Why does a failure seem to stick in our minds so much longer than a success? According to social psychologist Alison Ledgerwood, our perception of the world tends to lean negative, and reframing how we communicate could be the key to unlocking a more positive outlook. In this sharp talk, Ledgerwood shares a simple trick for kicking negative thinking to the curb so we can start focusing on the upside. Video
[Kill Lawyers] Has anyone else gotten tired of lawyers suing for everything under the sun just because someone doesn’t like its color or smell or size or shape or sound? Enough of the quick buck BS. If someone sues me, they will never make it to court! Time to lock and load!
[Florida Man Challenge] Here’s why there are so many crazy crime stories from Florida. Why are there so many crazy men in Florida?  There’s no simple explanation, experts say. The state’s laws have something to do with it. But also to blame: “a general craziness here”. Link

Why are all the 1960’s bands so old? I graduated in ‘68 and went to see the Young Rascals the other night in Ft. Pierce. A guy had to help Gene Cornish on the stage onto a chair. Felix Cavaliere is still hopping around though. I’m getting way too old these days for. ”Good Lovin”.

[Do Not Call] Who can I call to really stop all these God damn calls from some jerks selling their crap? Enough of the interruptions and BS.

[Costco] Giant tubs of macaroni and cheese, move over. Massive lobster claws have been spoted at some Costco Wholesale clubs. I hope we have enough butter. Video
[First Amendment] If you say something stupid and then defend it by saying “I have a right to say it,” you’ve now said two stupid things.

[No News is Good News] I wonder how much quitter, saner, stable and nice the world would be without news broadcasting?
